Gravatar If I was a parent, I'd much rather my child listened to Abba in the car than (say) the Wiggles.

Gravatar I'm glad I've got friends going too!

Gravatar Excellent post - I'm a secret music geek and mix tape maker too!

Gravatar Thanks for this post, Bells. It's a great example of why I love reading blogs so much. I don't think I've ever been obsessive about anything - maybe my kids when they were little; certainly not music. Entries like this one give insight into how differently (or similarly) we all approach our lives. I really will miss Blogtoberfest!

Gravatar I knew we had a lot in common, I had an Abba tshirt when I was 7. And I love love loved Boney M (remember them?) and Suzi Quatro (who I still love) around the same time. I even have a vague memory of early David Bowie, basically I loved anything my older cousins were in to.

Nick Hornby is brilliant, I loved reading High Fidelity and About a Boy. I should really read some of his other books.

Gravatar We are lucky to have a local radio station that has what they call "alternative" music. They'e evolved over the years and you can turn them on and never know what you're going to hear (Ok, probably no Barry Manilow). The music is eclectic and we get to hear new and old stuff and I like it. It helps me keep up with what's going on.

Gravatar I was going to marry John Cusack, but Chris asked first. (Sorry, once you mentioned High Fidelity, I was off on a mental tangent.)

Gravatar Another fantastic post Bells, thank you for sharing another side of yourself.

There is a lot of what you mention here that I can relate to....in a big way!

I really wish I was going to see Tori too but unfortunately my husband wouldn't enjoy her show as much as I would. Maybe next time I'll get there.

Gravatar We are total music lovers, all sorts from Abba to unknown strange music! Our music collection had to be insured to emigrate and was worth so much we just couldn't believe it! Worth moore than the furniture. I enjoyed reading your post.

Gravatar I was lucky to see Tori Amos perform on the last night of the UK leg of her tour - it was amazing! As it was the last night, she really went out on a high. Her voice was incredible! Overall, it was a much better experience than the ADP concert I went to, even though that was the first concert of Tori's that I had been to so it was particularly special for me.

Have an excellent time!

Gravatar Thanks for sharing another side of yourself, I love learning how people relate to music. It's always been a huge part of my life, too, and I miss performing it more than I can ever really articulate. Still, there's always the internet, which exposes us to such interesting new music. Listening and singing along (when nobody's around) are almost a good enough replacement, when the songs mean something.

Gravatar I'm really keen to read that book - it went on the list as soon as I heard about it! I love the feeling when I stumble into a new-to-me music direction and go into the obsessive phase. I particularly like to trace connections and influences back (or forwards) in time.

Gravatar My husband still makes me mixed CD's from new music that he finds on the intenets.

I spent a lot of time in Canberra's record shops in my university years, and when I was at school, would have to buy records unheard based on reviews in NME. Life as an expat became a lot more bearable once we got access to internet radio.

Gravatar P.S. My girls love, love, love Abba, and we have painful screams around the house if Abba Gold can not be located!
