Gravatar The sock is gorgeous from every angle and an adornment to your leg and foot.

Gravatar Your sock is very pretty, even if you didn't get the greatest shot!

I have had luck by bending over and taking the shot upside down (without looking through the viewfinder--take a few tries) and then turning it upside-right on the computer. But yeah, it's probably best to let someone else take the shot.

The pictures I'd really like to see are the ones your neighbor took of you doing all of this.

Gravatar My Mum has told me, ever since I was young, that I have legs like one of my Aunts. All I am going to say is her legs resemble tree trunks! So I know how you feel, I am exactly the same about my feet, ankles and calves!! BTW socks are awesome, you have done a great job and the yarn is gorgeous

Gravatar Hahaha yes taking photos of one's own foot is very tricky! Last time I tried it I got cramps. But your sock is looking lovely!

Gravatar Bells, your sock is gorgeous. I think though you're being too hard on yourself. I think even Trinny & Susannah would say socks don't particularly flatter, nor are they meant to. They are there for warmth, and yes adornment, when they are as beautiful as this one.

And feh on what you looked like. Just tell the neighbours you have a fabbo new job as a foot model and are building up your portfolio of photos! hehe

Gravatar you have cute little feet! and the sock turned out great - that yarn is such a lovely color.

Gravatar Really nice socks. Wait until Santa-the-Postman comes to start the Pomatomii (Pomatomusuesese?), okay? Just... wait. Try not to shriek at the postman when he gets there. I'll try not to kick mine at this end.

About the self-depreciating humor, uh, heeheeheeheehee. I don't think that woman HAD a sense of humor. We do. heeheehee.

Gravatar I lay on the floor with my feet up on a chair (gravity is is your friend if you work it right) Then I flex my feet forward, toes pointed. Then I get a cramp of some sort and have to abandon the project for a bit. After six or seven times, it works like a charm!

Sort of...

Gravatar Yeah, I go with the pointy toe thing too - I usually rest my besocked foot on a step just with my toes, and try for the ballerina look. Or I get my dotter to model for me - but it's a tricky thing!

GORGEOUS sock, Bells - I'm just amazed The lace pattern looks so tricky!

Gravatar Okay--that sock is AWESOME...and I'd just have a blurry picture of my kids chewing on it, so, really, your stuff is a vast improvement...

(WAs there really some wankette wonking on bloggers who use self-deprecating humor? Seriously--then what was she doing on the blog? It's like someone who hates cats working in the pound...unless she's on euthenasia duty, it's a pretty crap job!)

I love the sock photo array--that's a fun idea.

Gravatar Lovely Bells! Great job. I agree, Cookie's patterns are awesome.

Gravatar yeehaaaa

Gravatar Your sock is great! I wasn't sure about this pattern the first time (and poma-ta-thingy still scares me a bit) but I've decided I really like it - this colour is great too. You will have the most beautiful feet in the world in these socks!

Gravatar Yay socks! They're beautiful, and I love the color. You're absolutely right, figuring out how to photograph oneself modeling the socks is ridiculously difficult. I ended up lying on my back with my feet up against a white wall (actually, I think it was the closet), in third position. But that never would have worked to show off a complicated stitch pattern like you have here.

I'm bummed because I realize I should have bought TWO skeins of jitterbug sock yarn, because all I can make out of one is basic socks. Oh, well. The errors of a beginning sock knitter...

Gravatar Neat sock pattern!

Gravatar Great post about the hardship of photographing socks. At least you're not wasting FILM whilst trying to get a good photo of your feet! They had it rough in the olden days.
I am OK with my feet, but I too have a tatt on one of my least favourite parts of my body!!

Gravatar they are beautiful socks and i think the last photo is the best although i am a little concerned about what sort of angle you had to get yourself into to take that photo! nice work

Gravatar I think your sock is cute too =)
I have a little question for you on your jacket - are you stranding or weaving for your colour work?
(I'm doing knitty's corazon mittens as my first fair isle)
thanks =)

Gravatar Hehe..I'm hearin' you...great laugh, thanks...and pretty sock, too! Ruth...

Gravatar Love it! Monkey is one of my favourite patterns.

PS: Who in their right mind would base their thesis on blogging??

Gravatar The socks look beautiful. The Duke laughs at me every time I try to photograph sock as well. Reclined on a couch with my foot up on the arm rest has worked, as well as the whole yoga pose thing sitting on the floor with the soles of your feet touching, but this requires two socks.
Anywho, we all appreciate how hard it is to photography your own feet, the sock (and your feet) look adorable!

Gravatar I guess if anyone had wandered up & asked, you could've told them you were auditioning for a reality tv show. That makes any weirdness forgivable :-P

Awesome sock, btw!

Gravatar Ah the attempt at humour via self deprecation. I know it well.

The dislike of ones feet - know that well too. I was once told that to get feet you don't hate you had to love your feet - a reference to regular pedicures.

You can see why Cookie A uses a fake leg to photograph the socks too.

And, finally, if you like Cookie A, you might give Sarcelle a go. It's a beautiful scarf.

Gravatar Oh, and your sock looks great too, I forgot to mention that bit.

Gravatar A lovely sock.

Gravatar Ohhhh - can I say I knew you before you were famous?

Gravatar The sock looks great! That pattern is so fun.

I have to echo some earlier commenters - I've had the best luck either bending over holding the camera upside-down or laying down with my feet up in the air. I've been thinking about trying the timer on my camera next time, too.

Gravatar Beautiful sock no matter what the angle. I always try to photograph my sock with my feet up in my windowsill (where the light is) sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Plus I always seem to also get pictures of all the crap on windowsill or the ugly dirty window.

Gravatar I kinda liked the down the leg shot, and the cute tipy toe one, but best of all I like your monkey, every time I see it i just want my pomatomus finished so I can monkey around
