Very good points. My worry is that no amount of preparation will prove sufficient. There is an advantage to living on an island, though.

This reminds me sorely of the SARS epidemic in Canada. Though Vancouver was mostly spared, it caused enough of a stirr that I was actually a fair bit concerned of "catching" it. Scary stuff.
