Wow. That is some strange news. Goes to show that you have to really look out for those police dogs still on the job. They're the really vicious ones...

Things must be different in Europe... if the story took place here in the states I would say it's not fair to hold canines to a higher standard than human cops.

I was surprised to read that the dog was a male. When I was a kid and the police came to primary school with their dogs and showed us how they caught criminals (were they trying to deter baby criminals?) I'm sure I remember them saying they used females rather than males. For some reason it's a bit of information that stuck with me all these years - and is wrong, apparently. Well done, me!

Really? I have never heard that. Of course, it may be true in NZ but not elsewhere. As far as I know, in NZ they only ever use Alsatians as police dogs, but here in Germany they have all sorts, including, for example, boxers. So perhaps it varies from one country to the next.

Just goes to show you that animals have very distinct personalities too. I bet if he comes to live with and love a family of his own, he'll probably protect them better than any police dog known to man. *smile*
