Gravatar Tour de France et Angleterre?

Gravatar The TdF has been visiting other countries, and indeed starting in other countries for years now. Last year it came to Germany, after starting in Belgium. With the EuroStar and Channel Tunnel in place, a visit to Angleterre has become logistically much more feasible than it was in the past. I think it's a bloody brilliant idea, and I'm sure it will give British road cycling a huge boost - which it needs as track cycling is all that gains any attention in the UK at present.

Gravatar I figured that must be the case. I'm looking forward to the coverage when they ride their bikes through the chunnel haha.

Gravatar not sure how much use staging the start will be for cycling in the uk. the previous two times they've had it it hasn't helped much. it's good for tourism though, without a doubt.

the problem with the brits staging the start is they'll be pinning all their hopes on that junkie scot, david "i'm clean" millar. i'm sorry, but i object to giving junkies more publicity, and think it's damaging a sport i used to care passionately about.

possibly the brits will also be hying the hopes of bradley wiggins too - unfortunately, he's turning out to be another chris boardman: a specialist with more hope than ability (where road racing is concerned).

still, there's one good thought. if met police commissioner ian blair still has his job next year (if he survives the de menezes report and doesn't gaff himself to death with more soham-like blunders) he might set his force lose on the tour to round up the junkies. he's got it in for middle-class blokes who take lots of drugs (nb: satire)
