Good post. I don't see as much name dropping down here in SoCal (at least personal name-dropping) but I still see startups who say "we are talking to Sequoia" or "we've approached Oracle about partnering" who are pretty much blowing smoke. I'd say there's less of the "shadiness" here for true entrepreneurs, because we've got a bit of a smaller ecosystem and everyone knows everyone else.
