enjoying eating and drinking in this life is not forbidden is islam:
quran 7:32
Say, "Who prohibited the nice things GOD has created for His creatures, and the good provisions?" Say, "Such provisions are to be enjoyed in this life by those who believe. Moreover, the good provisions will be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection." We thus explain the revelations for people who know.

Mohamed, but wine is prohibited, no? And if the God of Abraham permitted even encouraged his children to drink wine, then why is it forbidden to Muslims?
Isn't the God of Abraham the same God of Mohammed?

Bernie,
Yes alcohol is prohibited, but we can't reduce eating and drinking to alcohol can we? a few things only are prohibited as you know, and we share some with jews (pork). and this was a blessing for muslims, alcohol consumption being rare we don't suffer from alcoholism and its problems.
I believe you know what we muslims believe about Abraham, yes he is our prophet and his God is our God, but the books have been changed and were not conserved, so it's normal that the message of Abraham is not as it was back then. the books we have now are partially true partially changed, even many bible scholars confirm it (misquoting jesus, bart ehrman).

I find great wisdom in the Bible, and I agree with you about how wonderful the book of Ecclesiastes is. King Solomon wrote some beautiful words there, as well as his Song of Songs.

Seems a little odd to say I enjoyed this list, considering it involves people dying... but this was great!

Interesting blog and I did enjoy your list, but the torilla one struck me as sad. Most on the list appeared to know that they were dying and this just seemed sad...
The champagne though was a nice one.
Thank you for stopping by, have a great weekend.

I enjoyed these. This post reminded me of a game a friend played at hastyruminations.wordpress.com that involved coming up with the likely last six words of famous people. It was a fun though somewhat macabre challenge!

That's what I try to do, eat drink and enjoy life. Now I can, I am retired, lol !
My aunts last words before she died was : "I want to bake a cake" Apparently she wasn't the only one to think of food in her last moments.
