Why can't HOAs have referenda? Does the president act as cop, prosecutor, judge and jury? Seems his neighbors would quickly reach a consensus to give the guy a waiver/variance. It's not a Grateful Dead sticker, or a blame li'l imp wizzin'.

It
’s idiots like this and Obama that are destroying this country.
If Darenda Hardy did send this letter, I
’d gladly buy her a one way ticket out of this once great country if she will agree to legally renounce her United States citizenship and never return.
The sooner we get rid of these idiots, the sooner we can begin rebuilding this country.

Bethany,
I agree with your call to sanity. Doing something stupid is not what we veterans served side-by-side for as brothers and sisters in arms.
I have a network of veterans contacts in South Carolina and Pennsylvania that I'm certain would participate in a civilized campaign in support of our brother in Dallas. Just let me know and I can get the word out to them.
Keep up the good work.

I think we should send POW MIA bumperstickers to everyone in the community. I'm certain that at least 50% of the residents would put them on their cars in protest.

I disagree. Good people have been sounding retreat for too long in the face of this "progressive" behavior.
The President should be openly identified (I'm working on it), he or she's place picketed, the mangement firm picketed and as much vitriol aimed at this person as is allowed by free speech.
Marines don't retreat very well, nor do those who have an understanding of the sacrifices made by fighting men and women since Lexington and Concord.
This is no time to go wobbly under the guise of civility. This is a time to be very uncivil to those who would rob us of our identity and free speech.
Too many conservative citizens continue to get rolled by the "progressives". Ok , get rolled, but not me brother.

Nobody is suggesting a retreat, Habu. Suggesting uncivil reaction is complying with the uncivilized treatment of our veterans.
Trust me in saying that dollars are the only thing that the leaders of this home owners association are concerned about. Texas is one state in our great nation that patriotism is still in tact.
A lot of folks will speak out just give it time. This gentleman will receive civilized support and the association will waiver. Uncivil reaction will only solidify their thoughts.

I am suggesting, or more correctly adding increased illumination on the retreat of the conservatives.
If there were no retreat then how did we end up allowing the left to set the agenda even when out of power?
An example would be Ron Reagans promise to dissolve HUD and the Dept of Education. When he had the votes and the power was that even attempted..no
The list list long and the ground given up to the Socialist Democrats is now measured in the almost complete collaspe of our Republic.
So yes, I would say that as we become what even Pravda recognizes as a Marxist state it is time for some uncivil action; some resistence to the Alinsky model.
In Patrick Henry's most brilliant speech the lines are as clear today as they were then, when he stated.
"Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace-- but there is no peace."
Well the Left has all the power and is using it to totally alter this nations design .. it cannot be allowed to stand.
So if civil disobedience and incivility are needed, and they are, then I say give the Left all it can handle. It's a bit late and somewhat callow to think they care about this Republic.

Jeez, fellas, I don't know what makes you think your typical HOA is dominated by "progressives." Probably more Republicans than Democrats, but not necessarily by much, would be my guess.
I think it's a case of an overzealous, bossy personality -- likely with precious little else to do -- and has nothing to do with political orientation.
About 6 months ago, a similar case cropped up involving Obama yard signs. The HOA association president said it had nothing to do with politics and was largely taken at his word -- certainly by me, he was. While I wouldn't want to live in an HOA -- too hard to operate my swinger's club, The Hairy Pit -- I thought the HOA pres was within his rights and operating within the scope of his post.
This case is different, though, since it seems to violate the "spirit of the self-imposed ordinance," if self-imposed ordinances can be said to have a spirit. Moreover, the case is by definition not political, since the Marines defend all Americans, not just those of one political persuasion or another. Right, fellas?

HAbu,
Reading more carefully what you've posted -- and I'm no Obamamaniac -- I'm curious as to what you advocate exactly and by what means. Real men don't speak in shadowy insinuations.
So lay it on us, oh won't you?
1) What are you advocating exactly?
2) By what means?
BONUS QUESTION:
You are absolutely certain that Ms. Hardy isn't a Republican. How?
And mike:
What do you plan to do she refuses to renounce her United States citizenship?

Hello Daniel,
Nothing much I can do other than to continue supporting our troops past and present for the selfless acts they perform 24x7 365...., while citing this idiot as an example of what's a growing problem with this once great country.
I simply stated that if she would, then I would. I'm sure there are thousands if not millions of true Americans out there that would join me in sponsoring one-way tickets for these folks willing to renounce and never return.

Daniel,
Real men? What a strawman comment. One does not disclose operational plans (unless you're obama).
It was enough during the Civil Rights era of the late 50's and thru the 60's that civil disobedience was the goal and part of that was incivility as manifested by the Black Panthers and the Weathermen and others. So get real.
I can help you out of your torment however by saying that turning Alinsky tactics against the Left would be a great start. He has 13 rules..look 'em up.
Somewhere along the way you seem to have missed the fact that we are already involved in a slow motion revolution in this country. You have the tinctured your questions in a fashion similar to the Left .. good luck downrange.

The Black Panthers and Weathermen were criminals and were prosecuted as such. Your sentence, "It was enough," contains no statement or assertion whatever. "It was enough" to get them incarcerated, I guess you mean.
I'll bone up on the Alinsky dude, but from what I recall, I don't see how you could turn his tactics against the Left since they were patently Leftist by nature. Bringing the state to its knees via widespread welfare fraud, as I remember it -- I'm too busy at work to even Wikipedia right now, let alone do real research. If Obama is, in fact, deliberately bankrupting the United States of America, you have to admit he had a hell of an assist from George W. Bush. In any event, thanks for your reply and for remaining reasonably civil.
Mike -- right answer. I guess. Don't think you'll have many takers, however.
And I would still bet twenty bucks that the homeowner's association president is a Republican -- people who live in suburban subdivisions in Texas tend to be. (I wouldn't bet fifty, however.)

Okay, I found a moment to Google and I had Alinsky confused with the Cloward-Piven Strategy, which took Saul Alinky-ism as it structural model.
Good luck with that overthrowing the government thing. I'm sure you'll be magnanimous with power.

Daniel
At this stage for you to have to Wiki Alinsky shows your sciolism.
As for the "It was enough " sentence, well, had you finished the sentence it is perfectly self explanatory. Once again you are displaying classic Leftist behavior in leaving out what doesn't fit your agenda.
As for your puling entreaty that I be magnanimous with power I assure you I couldn't surpass the abuse obama is giving it right now. But rest easy, I have no desire to rule anything, just stating my position.
Overthrowing the government is too messy but a nice return to the 10th Amendment would be refreshing. It's not just a good idea, it's the law!
All this government ownership by a man who openly professes to not letting any crisis go to waste, when he has the power to create a crisis a day is a bit much. He's creating one right now by throwing Isreal under the bus, which will force them to strike a country that has vowed to destroy them. obama is such a prick.

Ok, let's be realistic here. Obama? Nothing. To. Do. With. This.
The topic is HOA's. They've been around much longer than Obama, and ponder this:
One of the other abuses of HOA power I've seen was in Frisco, where people who drove any truck other than a luxury one had to park it in the garage - not the driveway. So yeah, a brand-new F150 had to be garaged, but a beater Cadillac Escalade could sit in the driveway.
Frisco, Texas, is in Collin County. Collin County voted predominately - if I'm remembering correctly - Republican in the last election. Ergo, mathematically you are more likely to have a HOA officer that is a member of the GOP - or at least leans that way.
So who's to blame for that one?

Bethany,
Understand Bethany that obama is now responsible for everything, just as Bush wass and every prior president. It's crazy but that's the way it is. Logic doesn't apply to politics so utilizing the Alinsky paradigm one makes every accusation they care to make, be it true or not. I'd be more inclined to cut him some slack if he weren't such a committed fellow traveler in harmony with Marx and Lenin, but he is , so I won't.
Your HOA analogy smacks of class warfare jealousy .... you sound like an obama proletariat, while I sound like a bourgeois..N'est-ce pas? If you've followed the story ... she's an obama acolyte.

Habu,
I've always said my politics were more centrist. I've also gone on record as saying there will never be a president that will be completely correct, just as there will never be a president that was completely wrong.
The presidency is imbued with much responsibility, but it's given to a human. Humans are fallible. A bad driver, for instance, will be bad whether he's driving a Mini Cooper or a DART bus, but the same isn't exactly true of a good driver.
What I'm trying to say is this: Don't presume to know my political bent. And don't make a discussion about HOA presidents with delusions of grandeur about politics.
I get really, really cranky when people don't stay on topic. Ask some of the regulars.

Bethany,
In the news coverage it came to light that every car in the complex had some form of "advertisement". One was an obama sticker.
"objection your honor, irrelevent says Bethany"
"overruled, you may proceed Habu"
"Thank you".
I'm sorry you got your panties in a wad over your perceived extension of my remarks being out of bounds, but clearly they are not. The HOA high priestess chose to single out a former US Marine, not an obama supporter or a "no child left behind" fan. What message do your powers of inductive reasoning tell you about that?
Habu |

Let's leave my panties out of it. Let's also remember whose blog this is.
I have a feeling this HOA president saw the size of the stickers, not the message. Not an excuse, but to attach anything more nefarious than extreme shortsightedness on her part is reaching.
She saw the stickers, and likely made some determination about the way it made the vehicle - and by extension the complex - look. Not thinking about the slippery slope she was about to slide down, face first, she wrote the note. She likely didn't think about the fact that enforcing this rule this vigorously would likely mean she'd need to crack down on all stickers - political, "my kid is an honor student," even breast cancer pink ribbons.
My point - which you missed - is this. Dumbassery is not singularly a trait of any one political persuasion. It's equal opportunity.
Now, stick to the subject, or try the Metro blog over at dallasnews.com.

Anyway, Bethany, thanks for bringing this back on topic. If you would like me to bring this to some vet's attention in SC and PA, let me know. They'll be happy to make some phone calls to complain.
They'll just need a current phone number. The one from one of your earlier links has been disconnected (I wonder why). Perhaps they've already gotten an over abundance of calls.

Can't stand the heat. It's ok. By now I'm sure her life is miserable with the number of Marines who have her name and number. She'll no doubt choose more prudently next time; perhaps a Code Pink person.
Anyway, It's your blog, but tell me since it's open to the public and we are "guests" how do you treat guests in your home? Hand them a dirty towel and make them sleep in the garage?
Guest should be treated with respect by their hosts, but I guess you missed that at charm school. It's called hospitality ,not hostilality.
Have a pleasant evening.

Daniel,
Too Busy Bethany (TBB) is ostensibly a wannabe blog maven.
This last thread now is covered with moss, the four or five people that stop here have moved on and Bethany is an MIA.
Whatever diddle she's diddling it's not tending to this site ..fer sure dude.
It must be a vanity blog or a resume builder.
Perhaps this will crank in and she'll chastise me for being off the moss, but straying from the precisian "stay on topic" isn't the real world of badinage.

Habu -
Actually, I've been on vacation, and have only had sporadic moments to hop on the Internet.
Considering you're a newcomer to the blog, I'll assume you haven't bothered to look at much of it. Since I have no history with you, I'll also assume that means that you don't know me very well. Most people, when they don't know much about a subject, tend to hang back, catch up on some reading about the subject, and then comment. Gotta hand it to you - you are not most people. You immediately decided what I was, and not much - including the contents of this blog as a whole - will dissuade you from that.
But for someone who suddenly dislikes this blog, you seem to spend a lot of time on it.
Blogger and Wordpress offer free blog hosting, where one can make a blog, and then delineate his or her own rules for that blog.

I hope your vacation was relaxing. Where did you vacation? Bermuda? Cote d'Azur, Ibeza? I know , I know they're all way overdone but they are also nice, or were when I was in my late 20's and throughout my 30's.
New Zealand is very cool,South Island only pleese.
Australia is ok. I did a six week excursion in 1975 in and around Alice Springs (map of Australia..dead center ,in the outback)but that continent has too may poisonous critters, plus there's always "the dingo's ate my baby thing going on"
Actually I am taking a hiatus from blogging as I usually do more in depth political theory analysis of "as the world turns" .. I'm suppose to be at my place in Montana by now but a glitch in a new house closing here in Florida has be delayed. But soon the griz and the trout will sense a certain Habuian presence and they will be on guard. (yeah like a griz is gonna be a-fraiddy cub ..I always wear brown hiking shorts JUST in case I run into one of those creatures!
Ok enough, now about solving the world's challenges ..naw, go'in to Montana where it's as much a different world as Venice Beach, CA is to the rest of the world.
Best
