I think what the Republicans are finding this year - much to their dismay - is that disrespect doesn't win elections like it used to. And thank goodness for that, because spending eight years feeling ashamed of our voters was demoralizing. And it's different this year, I think, because of how bad things are, and how those rally outbursts and R talking points feel in the context of so much real suffering. Those attacks feel emptier than ever, crueler than ever, and more besides the point than ever.

And yet... they're out there. Maybe the crazies are getting worse this time around since no one is buying it anymore. My brain doesn't want to go to the what-ifs. But if... Yes, I think the campaign's culpability would be endless. And the Right would say it was just God's will.

Gravatar Both parties have their extreme wings and supporters, but McCain and Palin have spent the past week speaking exclusively to the far right and encouraging them to react.
The bait is out there, and it doesn't stay on the hook every long.
Just this morning, I saw a clip from a town hall in Wisconsin in which a man with a microphone said, "I don't care about the economy. I don't want a socialist in the White House."
To their credit, McCain and Palin didn't react in a positive manner, but they didn't question the remark or say it was in poor taste.
If something terrible happens to any of the nominees, one can't help but wonder if the pointless attacks are to blame. And one side is basically saying, "Bring 'em on."
That's inexcusable.

Gravatar The problem is that they're facing a wall. You know the campaign's in trouble when they're revving up their base a month out instead of swing voters. That says to me that their internal poll #s are even worse than the national polls we've been seeing.

Gravatar Since the Secret Service finds these stories to be only apocryphal, unfounded, and untrue, Bethany, the only one who seems to be inciting anything by continuing to promulgate these false rumors is you.

So ask yourself, Bethany, "what do you say to the nation if your words incite a nightmare in the name of" falsely demonizing the candidate you disapprove of?

Gravatar I would answer that question if I could make head or tail of what it means. Sentence structure much? And while we're at it, how much chutzpah and stones does it take to post something anonymously?

But for giggles, the "kill him" and other comments have been well documented, with plenty of video. A simple Google search of that phrase will give you both written eyewitness accounts and video options.
