I'm curious as to what they think the "appropriate action" is. Given the way the US military has become increasingly religiously politicised, wanna bet it's "slap on the wrist in public, cookie in private"?

The military is an openly conservative institution, and it pushes religion whenever it can. When I was in basic training, those of us who chose not to go to church were basically punished - ordered to wash the latrines and such. There is a good reason for it - religious conservatives are easier to control.

And this speaks largely to pastors like Hagee and Parsley who are getting excited that this war in the middle east will lead to the rapture. They can hardly contain themselves when they hear Iran and Syria threaten Israel with war. No wonder so many of these fundamentalists are getting so excited.
