Gravatar Oy. What better way to keep your support base going than by forcing your smart but poor people to go to crappy schools that will prevent them from reaching their potential and fill their heads with religious propoganda.

What ever happened to separation of church and state? I can appreciate that it's probably legal in this case, but it still seriously goes against the intent of the law.

Gravatar What ever happened to separation of church and state?

Nothing, because we never had it in the first place down here in the Deep South.

Gravatar Great, funnel poor kids into a pseudoschool while continuing to fleece those who do have money to give through televangelism, etc. These assholes are shameless. I really fucking hate this shit. I don't know how you guys can stand being around this all the time. A friend of mine who makes me look like a raging conservative Christian just left Greenville after working as a librarian at Furman (where he went) for a couple of years and I'm surprised that he never shot Mike Fair or Jim DeMint (or vice-versa).

I'm going to roll with this story on the refuge once I load up on antacids.

Gravatar Take it and Run Kevin

Gravatar Please be patient with my Canadian ignorance on this subject, but can they do that? Can the government, at any level, give money to institutions that are affiliated with religions? Especially when they refuse to do as much for non-religious institutions? A nacho went down my throat sideways when I read that.

Gravatar Rumor has it that everybody in the south is crazy. William Cuthbert Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Harper Lee, Peter Carey, John Kennedy Toole are my authorities.

Bob Jones - in Kansas City he sells shoes.

When the revolution comes, that school will be the next U.S. Navy shelling exercise (unannounced).

Gravatar It's a good question Lorri. I'm not sure how this would play out because it is for "private schools" in theory but in reality it was only for Bob Jones U, a purely religious institution.

Gravatar I'm in the South, but I'm not crazy (at least I don't think I am), but I'm a statistical aberration.

Gravatar Same here, and there are less crazies here than people who don't live here think.

Gravatar What ever happened to separation of church and state?,

After Hein v. Freedom From Religion Foundation Inc. a small bit of SoCaS is now gone and the courted hinted in the opinion that the establishment clause might be due for a major reinterpretation.

In the future, please just link to the document.

HEIN v. FREEDOM FROM RELIGION FOUNDATION, INC. (No. 06-157)
433 F. 3d 989, reversed.

Gravatar sorry Reverend, I just got carried away.

Gravatar No worries. It's just easier with the link. Point taken however. Thanks for it.

Gravatar It way fails the lemon test. The intent was pretty clear.

Of course, as has been pointed out, that may not mean much of anything any more.

I've posted my own thoughts on this now, so thanks for the heads up, Rev.

Kisses

Gravatar I'll come check it out.
