I just try to look pleasant, neat and clean. I do like creating my own style, but I think that's just the artist in me. I work very hard at accepting my body just the way it is...and it's changed quite a bit with age and two children. It helps that I have a husband who loves me for me, and not how I look.
The only thing I wish I could do is stop shaving. I really find it a big pain to find the time to do this. I have more important tasks, but it still feels wrong to go to Mass with hairy legs, so I do it out of respect. I like winter because I can put on a pair of sheer tights and forgo duty of shaving my legs.
I liked living in Europe in the 70's...hair on women was considered the norm. I had a German friend tell me that "good" girls didn't shave. I think this has changed now.

Nothing wrong with looking good and having a sense of style. I so hear ya where shaving is concerned, I don't have much hair on my legs but it is jet black on fair skin, see every single hair, joy oh joy LOL.
Thanks for your comment.

I cringe when I watch these shows where women have these injections of Botox...It is just awful.
As I once said in jest, if Joan Rivers has one more face lift she'll be talking from the back of her head lol.
This is just another way of making MEGA BUCKS from women's insecurity about themselves.
WHY?WHY? Cant women simply accept themselves as they are? Makes ya think.
Excellent piece sis,

Thanks so much for this. What women go through because of our society's need to divorce the life of the Spirit from that of the body makes me feel so bad sometimes.
God bless you in your efforts.

Being healthy and happy is what's important.
Ugh, I agree - seeing people being shot up with Botox makes cringe too.

AMEN to that Lisa
I can't stand needles so I am quite happy with my few wrinkles lol.
The best thing one can do for skin is to stay OUT of the sun. I do lol.
Thanks for your input hon

I'm reading a book by Naomi Wolf called The Beauty Myth. It basically talks about how beauty is used as a kind of currency which keeps women down - can keep you from getting promoted, asking for what you are worth, pursuing your dreams; can get you fired, if you aren't pretty enough; can keep you guessing at where the balance line for professional yet feminine, but not too feminine lies. It's an interesting read.
I agree. We are raised to hate our uniqueness, to think we should all be like models on t.v., and we are buying in. We believe it.
I recently lost 60 lbs, and regained it. I've been hating myself for it. But the truth of the matter is, my body likes being bigger - it comes to me far more naturally.
Yet, I just came home from a cruise, and refused to buy a picture of my whole family, because I felt I looked like a blow pig in it, and felt so sad and angry with myself for regaining the weight. It's crazy!
