Big up for including J-Live and a track from the Group Home album and here's to hoping he does recover from recording trite, the worst was a remix of a cover of that Edie Brickell song, by no other than Emma Bunton, yes a former member of the Spice Girls. What is the world coming to?

long live primo! nice lil' feature you put together. it's tough picking ten cuts to represent such a master. i probably would have gone with at least one from those first two jeru albums, and maybe a joint from nas, but we could go on for days like this. the man's got beats. and, yeah, the way he cuts in the horn, revealing the full sample, at the end of "devil's pie" is one of my favorite moments, too. nice.
one of my favorite things is hearing primo's steez evolve over time, often in step with copyright litigation (and in keeping with that ol' NY hardcore sound). in recent years he seems to have struck a rut, but it's still kind of an ain't-broke-don't-fix situation. i expect we'll be hearing more dope beats from premier for years to come.

Planet Asia - Bringin It Back
This is one of the craziest fucking beats I've ever heard, and one of my favorite Primo joints.. it gets slept on, I can't even find if it's on any album.

Primo didn't produce "Machine Gun Funk". The man behind the boards on that one was none other than Easy Moe Bee. Primo only produced "Unelievable" on Biggie's debut.

Thanks for posting, that Ease My Mind 12" is a bitch to find and whenever i tell people that's Primo on the remix, they're like word!?
Another good left field Primo remix is Janet Jackson's "All For You"...
also, to BR, that Planet Asia "bringin it back" track was not produced by Primo. it's produced by Kutmasta Kurt...

Wow! That Biggie remix is awesome! Is it definitely Primo? Sounds like him, but I'm surprised it hasn't been bootlegged to death. Thanks for the Arrested Development too (although, er, that wasn't as good).
Anyone heard any that J-Rock album "Streetwize" that went for $182 on eBay the other day? Or that Truck Turner EP that no-one seems to own?

i would agree on the Ease My Mind Remix being at the top only because most people havent heard it and it is definitely a banger from start to finish. Plus Preme brought a new energy to the track and his production is different on it is different than pretty much anything else he's down. I would say hands down, the best Premo beat is either "Royalty" (madlibs favorite too), Dwyck or Moment of Truth because thats the style hes still running with today and shit just hits so hard...

I always maintain that primos best production was the group home album. the mcs were average at best but the entire album's production is outstanding

Good mix of obscure Premo shit...The MC on "Music Evolution" was Uptown (of "Dope on plastic" fame). That remix is definitely one of my favorite beats. Agree w/you on most of your selections, but where's Fat Joe "Shit iz real"remix? Nas "I gave you power"? Sauce Money "Against the grain"? Prem is still my favorite producer, so I could go on for weeks... Peace.

Good picks. To the people bitching about the selection, how can you expect anyone to make a list of 10 Premier joints and NOT leave something dope out?
Premier's doing a dj gig in my hometown next week so hurray for that! Here's another surprising Premier production work:
Janet Jackson: Together Again.
A slower, hard hitting Premo track, over which Janet croons beautifully. Chemistry.

I first heard the song "Above The Clouds" in a Shortys skateboard video called "fufill the dream" and had to see who it was in the credits, and since then i have been lisening to gangstarr. I bought two cd player turntables and crossover after hearing premier with the mentality that if he can do it i can do it. It inspired me cuz im not one to get on a mic but i see potential in just cutting shit to make a chorus. love the shit theres nothing better.

great write up, but the list needs work. it seems like a biased as hell list you got there, those are dope beats but most of the time when a premo discussion comes up, the Nas joint "Nas is Like" usually takes the top spot. Do you even know the track? Or did you just forget?
