[I'll keep this Comment in brackets considering it relates to your PS as opposed to your much more righteous main posting, however a mini-crunchy could further the scope of my response]
(I'll be interested to see how the new Blogger works out; I've not found the guts as yet, for fear that a quick 5 minute task could turn into a 5 hour teeth=pull. Too much of a risk with a homemade template at stake!)

They forced me over! It seems more fiddly, but the real problem is that I can't have my real.name gmail account open at the same time as my blogger account which is now birdy.chirp of course on the same browser - which is really irritating and means I always have to have multiple windows open. I MOVED to firefox so that I wouldn't have to have multiple windows open....

signed up to both of those petitions - caught a bit of seehear yesterday and in one discussion they were saying that a big chunk of the money granted to disseminate health information was taken by the cost of BSL interpretors, if it was taught more freely in mainstream school then that would be reduced, maybe?
i got forced to move, but have lost my haloscan comments box - any help for an ex old blogger???

As a hard of hearing person myself I think BSL taught in schools is an excellent idea. They'll get to sign rude words to each other rather than just shouting them *grin*

We taught ourselves "Auslan", which is the Australian Sign language [but all the languages borrow from one another], when our second child was having some learning difficulties. It's not part of the official curriculum in schools here, but some do teach the rudiments. Nowdays I've found some basic signs I remember to be really useful now I do some volunteer work with disabled people. You never know when you might need to find a use for it.
