The Governator's not doing so hot in CA anymore. I wonder if we can get a poll on that Dem Primary between Angelides and Westly? That might be the tipping point, Arnold may be able to beat out one but not the other.
In Montana it appears that both Dem candidates are neck and neck. Tester is the more liberal of the two, running on healthcare, renewable energy and withdrawal from Iraq. Tester is a 48 year old organic wheat farmer from Big Sandy and President of the State Senate. He's been viewed as the typical Montana resident, I hope he wins it.
Morrison on the other hand has admitted to an extra-marital affair that won't really help him much when dealing with the scandal plagued Burns. We'll see how that one turns out.

I hope it ends up being Burns vs. Tester. I think either Tester or Morrison would be able to defeat Burns in the current political climate, however.
As for California, I'm happy that Arnold isn't faring so well now. And it seems that Feinstein will win by well over 20% this time, as the new L.A. Times poll is similar to the Field Poll (the California "gold standard") that had her up 59-31. If she does, it could have consequences for the governor race as well as a few House races.
A May 27 L.A. Times poll has the race for the Dem nomination statistically tied, Angelides 37%; Westly 34%.
Angelides has reported a recent increase in support for his campaign and has gained union support and support from the core liberal constituency, while many registered Democrats believe that Westly has a greater chance against Schwarzenegger and feel that he has a slightly "more positive" image.

There have been a lot of negative ads run by both candidates, but I've seen a lot more ads that knock Westly. I wouldn't mind seeing Westly win, but I think either of them can knock off Ah-nold.

I think Westly would really be the only Democrat who would be next to a sure-thing to beat Schwarzenegger (oh, wow, I spelt it right for the first time EVER on my own). But, honestly, I may be the only Democrat who doesn't really want Schwarzenegger replaced - I think the problems of California that are going on are just the problems that are mostly beyond his control (namely, economy, and he is tied to Bush a little too much still).
Honestly, I'm also kind of worried about Menendez now. I realize New Jersey's a little bit of a difficult state to poll, but he's making it that much harder for us to feel secure at all about the Democrat's future.

New Jersey doesn't worry me. Kean's ceiling thus far has been 40%. That means despite all the misgivings New Jerseyians have about Corzine, and Menendez by proxy, 60% of them can't bring themselves to align with Kean....and that's before the first ad connecting the dots between Kean and Bush reaches the airwaves. I'd be blown away if New Jersey elects a George Bush ally in 2006. It'd be comparable to Oklahoma electing Brad Carson in 2004, which also didn't happen despite early optimism among Democrats.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I'm honestly a little discouraged by the California Senate poll... I honestly expected Feinstein to be in the mid-60's by now... she's the most popular politician in the state, and for a reason....
That being said, I'm still worried about New Jersey, but as has been said, I doubt they'll go for a Bush ally right now...

Mark- New Jersey polling has always seemed to show very tight races in the past, but the Dem always seems to end up winning by about 10 points. This was seen in the 2005 Governor race, the 2002 Senate Race, and even the Presidential race in 2004.

Oh no! An LA Times poll that shows Arnold losing? That's a real shocker to us here in California. He was Losing every step of the way according to the LA Times until he won easily last time. Remember that.
Not even California will elect a sissy right now (ie Democrat).

Ok I'm a Democrat as everyone knows!!! But stuff like this bothers me so much. I mean what's going on in California. My party can take back Calironia if we choose Westly. But we're being stupid and are probably going to choose Angelides. Which I think if we choose him we're going to lose. Can someone explain to me why we are choosing a loser over a winner?

I GUARANTEE that Ahnold will win in CA. Westly can make it close, but Angelidies (AKA Harold Ramis) will get slaughtered. Bottom line...CA was frustrated with Gray Davis and still voted him him. Ahnold will win regardless of his opponent. And, oh yeah, despite a Soviet style legistature, he's done a pretty good job out here.

The Associated Press has published an article bashing Harry Reid, the Senate Minority Leader, for taking free tickets to a boxing match from the Nevada Boxing Comission....
Not emphasising of course that he passed legislation which put more oversight that the state was opposed to.
That's a backwards bribe, if anything at all. The article also very poorly handles Reid's relations with Abramoff clients, tying him to Abramoff directly, whereas in truth no single Democrat has ever taken a dime of Jack Abramoff's money. His clients have been working with law makers for a quarter of a century, well before Abramoff became a lobbiest. I think the author John Solomon has an axe to grind.
Last July he also did a very shotty peice on Valarie Plame, stating that she wasn't a covert operative. Where are the editors of these news agencies?
I don't want anyone here to accuse me of saying the media has a conservative bias, because in my opinion it's neither a liberal or conservative media. It is a sensationalism bias. Sex, scandal and missing teenagers is all they look for. This particular author grinds my gears because he's tarnishing one of the few good people left in Washington.
I feel so disenchanted with the US media, because they are so complacent and almost seem uninterested in investigating and holding people up to a higher standard. Remember Edward R. Murrow? Someone like him could make a politician shake in their shoes, now journalists are just lapdogs repeating soundbites.
Right or Left it doesn't matter, if you turn on to CNN on a random weeknight you'll see journalists drinking the koolaid all accross America.
I think we the people are to blame however. If we had an attention span longer than 84 seconds, we could sit through a five minute investigative peice like the ones Murrow used to deliver during the Cold War. But we can't, because Survivor is on. I think we're so bored and disillusioned with reality, that we find vigorous enthusiasm when watching reality TV.
Do you know that more Americans voted in last week's American Idol finals, than have ever voted for an American President? Bush received 50 million votes, American Idol got 60 million.
Where are the sacrifices of our generation? The ones that our fathers and grandfathers made? The rationing and constant vigil that made our nation so much stronger when we were pressured? Why is it that of all the regulars to this site, we can't point to many things we've done to make this country better, save for Scott and his parents and the hope they had for the future. Why doesn't the American public pay attention?
Can I really blame CNN, Fox and NBC for not looking deeper into the world we live in, or should I be blaming ourselves for just not caring?

Yes, we all buy into the hype, Elruin. Like the American Idol hype, for instance. Bush received one vote each from 50 million people; American Idol got 60 million votes, most of which were duplicates and people who programmed their computers to cast multiple votes.

Valerie Plame was not a Covert agent and Democrats did return money from Jack Abramoff. This is a bi-partisan scandal that in my opinion has been blown out of proportion. The medi tries to keep it alive in hopes R's will get indicted. And they will 1 week before the election, and i bet you Karl Rove will be indicted just before the election too. Special Prosecutors will hurt the GOP the most in this election cycle.

few things regarding the whole Abramoff scandal. the only $$$ directly coming from Abramoff went to the GOP, no $$ directly from Abramoff went to any Dems. Some tribes did donate to Dems, but most of those tribes had long standing donations to the Democratic Party well before Abramoff. Not only that, but due to economic policies Indian tribes have traditonally donated very heavily towards the democrats, THE ONLY tribes to have donated more towards the GOP than the Dems were the tribes Abramoff has been associated with.
As far as the whle Plaime thing, according to the CIA she was a covert agent and their have been recent reports that she was working on a program related to Iran that was compromised when her identity was leaked.

One thing to keep in ind about the Knowles race in 04. Bush was on top of the ticket, which greatly helped out Murkowski in 04, as Bush back then was popular in the state & won it handidly. You also have the fact that despte having dem Senators from GOP states, and GOP Senators from Dem states, it is more likely for a Govenor to be of the opposing Party than the state as a whole than a Senator different from the Party as a whole. You also have Knowles already being a Govenor, and a popular one at that, as well as Frank being MUCH less popualar than her daughter. Lisa was never all that popular, but she has hovered around the 50% mark in approval, FGrank is down into the 20's, now at 23% and is inching closer & closer to Bob Taft territory.
