Two things:

HD 51 is competitive. Remember, the GOP won because the Dem nominee was hit by a car (literally).

HD 53 is also competitive. It's pure college, and I'm pretty sure Moveon.org is not going to be out there registering CSU students in a non-presidential year.


Gravatar Also, HD 17 is a district that's fairly competitive. After HD 18, it's the district with the second-highest Dem registration in El Paso County. The reason it hasn't been competitive in '02 and '04 is because the Dems haven't fielded a good candidate, with a good effort. The last time they did so, in 2000, they came within 128 votes of winning the seat. So I wouldn't entirely rule a switch in that district.
