Gravatar The only thing going through my mind this morning as I read Katie's sermon was whether some small segment of my Strib home delivery bill was suddenly rendered tax deductible as a donation to the First Church of Kersten.

Gravatar How is it that non-Catholics are so often a wealth of knowledge about Catholic doctrine? How about a link from the Vatican, say perhaps, from this year. Hopefully there isn't another circle in hell being prepared for those who distort or lie about the Church's message...

Gravatar Spot's a risk taker.

Gravatar Oh, and another thing. Katie has been pretty damn free and easy over the years criticizing the social gospel Methodists, the windmill loving Lutherans, and of course, the Muslims.

And calling something a religious belief doesn't take it off the table for criticism. Nobody gets a free pass for bigotry.

Gravatar Heck fellas, I was there at St. Joan of Arc. The guy in the 'archbishop's suit' was making a point. He was saying that "we " are the real church, and those grinning fools in the "official" church are the real imposters.
They are. They are self appointed. Worse, they claim that God helped apoint them. Their proof? They say so. They say God gave them the power.
So when the McDonald sisters, and all the people prayed in the outdoor service, we were merely making claim to what is by nature ours: our own spirituality, our own sense of church and community. We do wish the grinning fools in the Vatican and in the Archbishops office would get it that they are mere imposters in the traditions of those who truly follow Jesus.
Jesus wasn't a Church official, ie "grinning fool". In fact he didn't have much for those Pharisees.
Jesus understood that the real deal is what happens outside of the Church and how you make your own connection with the Divine.

Gravatar Paul, your comment reminded me of a George Carlin quote someone referenced recently: "I have as much authority as the Pope, I just don't have as many people who believe it."

Gravatar I'm waiting for Miss Gulch to get as exercised over Sally Quinn's apparent effort to claim the first of the three miracles Tim Russert needs for sainthood.

I won't hold my breath.

Gravatar Does that pride sin include good old-fashioned flag-pin-wearing American pride?

Gravatar I just wish everyone who disagrees with major tenants of the Catholic church would leave and stop giving them money. The American church would collapse overnight. Birth control, anyone?

Gravatar Listen to Katherine Kersten and David Strom talk about Rachel Paulose. Always good for a laugh...

Gravatar Paul, if the Catholic church is so evil, why are you trying so desperately to get in?

Gravatar Dave,
I am in church wherever I go; so there is no desperation on my part. To make things clearer, I use the facilities of the Catholic Church, because I need a community, and they have the building.
Fact is, The Church is about the wealthiest institution in the world. They have ownership to a tremendous amount of facilities.
By the way Dave, I don't think of the Church as evil. The imposters who act as the leadership are apparently unaware of their hypocracy, and that frustrates me, as they have the keys to the mortgage of the buildings at St. Joan of Arc we center our church community around.
Peace,
Paul
