Good find, Spot. There are so many market failure issues in health care and health insurance that a pro-free-marketer like myself thinks maybe getting the government to clean things up a bit could be good.

A lot of my clients are self-employed and complain about health insurance premiums but tell horror stories they've heard about Canadian health care. Not my Canadian clients - they tell me how they miss their old Canadian system.

"Economically their system works much better than ours". Ever buy gas, alcohol, or cigarettes in Canada? Now there are some regressive taxes! Still, at least the taxes pay for the system.
Another "one example" is the guy who came to the hospital my wife works at for an infection in his knee from the knee replacement he got after a two year wait in Canada. He didn't figure he wanted to wait another two years to address the infection so he came down here. Can't make giant generalizations from individual instances but it is an interesting story--and true.

Well, if you have a $10,000 deductible per person, you wait an awful long time to get something done too.

tom a,
There isn't a medical system in the world, except maybe somewhere in the third world, that would make you wait two years for an acute problem like an infection.
The guy's story is bogus on its face.
And Spot will confess to being touched that you've become such a champion of progressive taxation all of a sudden.
