Uggh, how annoying. If it's any comfort, it is sort of mandatory that everyone has bad neighbors at one point - hopefully this is that time for you and gets it over with!
Of course, more deviously, you can wait for her to make a mistake, and knock on her door at 10:00 pm!
I hope this isnt just the beginning of your crazy neighbor stories. There is one in every neighborhood, sorry yours is living next door.
She probably got ticked off cause she came home drunk and fell over them or something.
I hope you're right, Jarod. I like your idea about getting back at her but somehow I think I'd better not start a war. 
LOL, mom of 3. That was a really nice image. Unless she was snooping right outside our door I'm not sure if that's possible though - my guess is she just found it displeasing to the aesthetic quality of the hallway.
I live in Leiden as a student and I must say I hope you don't consider this in any way typically Dutch behaviour because it's not.

You can get lucky or unlucky with neighbours. I swapped a sweet old lady for a couple of women who were into drugs and loud music then back to a young family. No point rocking the boat with some people.
Tom, I've had my similar experiences but also realize they do not represent the entire population. Hope you're having a fun week with the student stuff!
ChickyBabe,sounds like you've lived through quite a variety! I'd agree, it's usually best to keep the tension as low as possible.
Actually, it sounds right in line
with the way you describe the
building. More established, "civilized",
so don't rock the boat.
Rather a cold atmosphere,
but still its peaceful (i.e., no
glaring loud music late at night,
garbage left outside the door, etc).
We had a similar incident with
neighbors ten years ago. After a couple
of years we began greeting each other
again, and now are quite friendly.
Of course we don't park on the part
of the street that they seemed to think
is "theirs", but we don't care.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
