Insipid and patronizing is how I would characterize the music at today's Papal Mass in Washington. It's really no different than the music that can be heard in many parishes across the country.
I have a question: If Church music need not be of high quality, why do we need it at all? The quality of the compositions themselves is often poor. The quality of the musicians is usually vapid. It seems to me that we could well forego what is most often an experience in mortification.
