I gotta say, I'm a little bit upset about the ending of the relationship with Westwood One. Great broadcasts, and easy to find on the radio. ND better do a bang up job of getting a good broadcaster and a fine product up and running.

Boy oh boy, ISP sure has Washington, Indiana covered -- AM and FM.

No Chicago? No Detroit? No South Bend?

If this list doesn't explode, this would be right up there with the "Big Ten Network" debacle.

...I find it strange that a deal with one of the satellite providers wasn't even mentioned...someone should introduce ND to the 21st century...

Jim - ND has a long term deal with Sirius Satellite Radio, which has broadcast all ND games for the past two seasons. The ISP deal is for terrestrial radio.

...thanks...good to know...

The post mentioned 5 other ND coaches in the HOF. I'm almost positive they are Rockne, Leahy and Ara. Most likely Dan Devine. Would the other be Hunk Anderson?

It would seem to me that Tim Brown, Jim Seymour and Dave Casper should be shoo ins.

The fifth is Jesse Harper, ND's coach before Knute Rockne.

I can't think of a harder list to try and pick only 11 and 2. How do you deny players like Tillman, Dickerson, Aikman, etc. Even the coaches wouldn't be easy.

here's a question on that last point: are the college HOF choices, in theory, supposed to be divorced from the candidate's subsequent pro career?
e.g. is aikman being considered only for his years with ucla (and oklahoma)? and his cowboys career isn't supposed to matter at all.

anyone?

on Holtz, undoubtedly anyone on this message board will be biased, but how can he not be selected? the guy is a living legend.

A very unimpressive list of stations and none in central Ohio? I'm screwed.

Yeah, to be honest, I'm really suprised that Aikman is up for the HOF. I mean, his pro career was fantastic, and his last year at UCLA was great, but he really wasn't anything all the special for his first few years at Oklahoma and UCLA. I just don't get it to be honest. There are a lot more people from that time period who are far more deserving due to their college careers than Aikman.

Pat Fitzgerald was a very good linebacker at Northwestern, but puh-leeze...He isn't even close to HOF material, IMHO. Super Dave Casper last played college football the same year (roughly) that Fitzgerald was born, and they are on the same friggin ballot!?! Nuts. Casper is already enshrined in Canton (Pro Football HOF), and is overdue entering the college Hall.
As far as Timmy B goes, every Heisman winner should get an automatic induction, no matter what. Yes, I know that the thought of Gino Torretta being a Hall of Famer is nauseating, but the Heisman Trophy, historically speaking, really does represent grand tradition and college football greatness.
Lou is a shoe in. Or ought to be. Ironic that the only job he was ever "asked" to leave was the ND job that he loved so much. Man, I miss Lou pacing the west sideline at Notre Dame Stadium!
Jim Seymour was so shweeet catching those Hanratty passes! Hard to believe that he played over 40 years ago. Name recognition may hurt his chances, but I have my fingers crossed for an ND fourgasm.

Maybe the voters will recall Seymour better if they pull out their old copies of Time Magazine with Seymour and Hanratty on the cover.

Cover is still "schweet":

Voice: I agree about Fitzgerald. Pat was a great player on a very solid Northwestern team that won the Big 11. He is also a great role model. But if he had played for OSU or Michigan we wouldn't even be talking about him.

ISP sports better put the broadcasts online. Us military Domers overseas depended on the internet feed last year, since we were too crappy for AFN to broadcast us on TV.

For that matter, isn't it about time NBC got around to broadcasting the games online? Of course, they'll do that, and then because I'm logging in from an overseas IP address they'll block my access--COMMUNISTS! If I was in the US, I'd just watch it on TV, you idiots!

Voice,

If I'm not mistaken, Lou was "asked to leave" Arkansas as well. I recall from his Autobiography that he was just called into the AD's office and let go. That's why he ended up at Minnesota because he was kind of screwed with bad timing and that was the job that called. He didn't understand why he was fired, what with taking the razerbacks to 6 bowls in 7 years and whatnot.

I agree that he should be a shoe-in, though. Success just followed that man around. He's best known for his time at ND, but his ability to turn crappy programs into bowl winners is unparalleled. The only reason Minnesota gave into his ND clause is because they didn't think he'd actually achieve his qualifier of "take the team to a bowl game" but he did it right away. South Carolina was wretched when he got there and they beat Ohio State in consecutive Outback bowls. If ever there was a deserving coach, it's Lou, and if anyone hasn't read his autobiography I highly recommend it.

Nate,
Hilarious! I hope that you get some relief this season and are better able to follow the team. I felt bad for you on many occasions last season as you had to rely on doofuses like me for play-by-play. On the other hand, count yourself as extremely blessed that you did not have to actually witness the debacle to be forever known as "ND Football 2007".
And many, many heartfelt thanks for your continued service to our country!!
God bless.

Somewhere in heaven Moose Krause continues to be dismayed at some of the decisions made by Kevin White. Oh, for the days of Tony Roberts and Tom Pagna!! White needs to be fired!!

Not sure how you can sign a contract with a radio company that isn't even guaranteeing you will be able to hear the broadcast on the CAMPUS (read: South Bend) on which the game is being played. What about those poor saps who have to work in the bookstore during game days, don't they want to listen to the game?

Pennsylvania and New York folks are doing alright, but I can't imagine there are many alums spread out between Beckley WV and Sedona AZ. How 'bout some love for Wisconsin?

If you don't live in Manhattan the 20 Watt station from Newark isn't going to help NY very much.

I believe to get into the college HOF, you need to have been on an All American team....that's why Montana is not in.
