The one guy that Donahue mentioned, Kevin Duhe...the story on him is great. Check this out:
Duhe, a territory manager for Blue Bell Creameries, can't wait to cast his first ballot Sept. 25, after the fourth playing date of the upcoming season.
"I'm looking at this as a second job on the weekend," Duhe said.
"I'm taking it seriously."
He said his wife, Dionne, is prepared to be a weekend football widow. It's in the blood. Her father, Larry Dauterive, is coach of East St. John High School in Reserve, a veteran of nearly 40 years.
Actually, Duhe's wife and 7-year-old daughter, Courtney, are used to knowing him as only a rumor on fall Saturdays. Duhe spends a lot of time during the season at the home of neighbor Michael LaValle, a subscriber to ESPN GamePlan, which allows him to see games from every region of the country.
"I'll be there watching TV every Saturday from 8 o'clock in the morning until 2 o'clock in the morning," Duhe said.
As if there isn't already plenty of mystery and intrigue awaiting Duhe this season, a delicious footnote to his story is he has no idea how Harris Interactive chose him to participate.
He received a FedEx letter from Harris Interactive, dated June 22, asking if he'd agree to be a panelist. At first, Duhe said, he thought Dauterive was playing a practical joke on him.
Duhe agreed, signed a form and sent it back to Harris. On July 13 he received a packet with further details and instructions.
"All I know is every conference must be represented, and being an ex-player from (UL-Monroe), I guess I'm representing the Sun Belt Conference," he said. "How they chose me, I don't know. It's like winning the lottery."

It probably still has more validity than the coaches' poll.

"Davie's disqualified because he works for ESPN. And he's a dick." Jay - Reminds me of a classic line from "The Sting". Cop walks into grifter's bar. "Who's that?" ... "I dunno know. But he's a dick!" Matt Angry Matt | Email | Homepage | 08.25.05 - 8:52 pm | #

At least I see the Sun Belt's method of madness. Why should they try to conform to this random poll when they won't see dollar one from the events. Good for the Sun Belt! Corey | Email | Homepage | 08.25.05 - 9:19 pm | #

You know, if I was sure that all of the voters would spend a great deal of time watching and evaluating most or all of the important matchups from a weekend, I could go for anyone (even Bradshaw) voting.
We need a dedicated panel of 10-20 voters who live college football for 5 months. These people would be paid, and they would watch all of the important matchups on TV or DVR, and then the group would meet in a room and decide on a top 25. The poll wouldn't need to come out until Thursday of the week, giving everyone on this panel plenty of time to evaluate and discuss to formulate a ranking.
Few people bicker about how the NCAA basketball pool is chosen or seeded...it usually ends up being pretty accurate, they generally end up with all #1 or #2 seeds by the final four, barring an upset. John B. | Email | Homepage | 08.25.05 - 9:57 pm | #
