I believe this is what led Faust to instill the "4P" strategy for calling plays from there on out. For those too young, it referred to the common ND offensive series of the time:

Whew. Thanks, Leo. I thought maybe nobody read this.
I thought this recap was interesting on any number of levels, but probably most especially for this:
"Except for an early season victory over Michigan, Faust has had an unsteady tenure at Notre Dame. But now, 19 games after he left his coaching job at Cincinnati's Moeller High School, Faust finally may have completed the transition." Jay | Email | Homepage | 08.31.05 - 6:24 pm | #

Excellent throw-back memory, Jay.
I was there on Notre Dame Ave. when the team returned. It was magical, with every tree full of toilet paper, and what seemed like the entire student body (and SMC chicks, too) lining each side of the road. The team buses couldn't get through it was so raucous. Students high-fiving the players through the windows of the bus lead to some students actually getting a hand from the players so they could climb ON TOP of the buses to cheer on the crowd.
Amazing. Looking forward to a repeat Sunday after we take on Pitt Saturday. Andy | Email | Homepage | 08.31.05 - 6:30 pm | #

I was watching the game with the rest of the dorm in Cavanaugh's basement. When the flea flicker was pulled, and the TV coverage showed that our dormmate Joe Howard was two steps behind his defender, and when he caught the ball...we blew the roof off the place. Jay,
I read all your posts...even the crappy ones!
Agree. The article had some interesting name drops e.g., Foge Fazio and Dan Marino. I had forgotten (silly me) their association with Pitt. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
I can not wait for Saturday! Leo | Email | Homepage | 08.31.05 - 7:33 pm | #
