Happy Halloween, indeed.

Amazing how similar they look to the pumpkins pictured below...

Sorry to double post, but just checked out the Lulu and Junior website--funny, funny stuff.

That picture would be a lot funnier if I didn't live in Tennessee with thousands of people who look just like that. The Big Ernge never ceases to amaze.

Hey Memphis radio stations are reporting that Sanders refused to stay with the team the rest of the year and left the team.
Those colors are good for UT fans so they can go from huting, to picking up trash for their community service and then to the game without changing.

tn -- wasn't that a Holtz line? Classic.

I grew up in TN and that photo reminds me of lots of folks I knew or saw on a daily basis. They really are an accurate representation of a good segment of the Beeg Arnge fanbase. It actually makes me kind of nostalgic.

there was a great letter to the observer a few days back about how accomodating the fans in Knoxville were to the Notre Dame faithful at our away game last year. It really compels you to treat them with a lot of class when they come up here to south bend. Not that any of your guys' comments would've insinuated you wouldn't have, I just thought it was a good time to bring that up, given the subject of TN fans.

Don't get your panties in a bunch there TommyO. There is a big difference between message board/net harrassment and game day treatment. I remember seeing similar if not worse comments about USC, UM, MSU fans, and all they do is rave about the place and treatment. I think most grown adults with a sense of decency know when to leave the name calling and such at home.

Besides, go over and look at the UT boards. Despite the great atmosphere on gameday in Knoxville, the internet personas are less than cordial.

Welcome to the world of sports message boards.

Tommy, I was thinking the exact same thing when I was reading these comments. I've heard from many sources that UT fans are amazing hosts and that Neyland stadium is a great place to take in a game. Take Noble's family for example... they're ridiculously nice UT fans. Southern hospitality at its finest.

And I really don't think fans of a team from INDIANA should be making fun of people's weight. We're smack dab in the middle of mayonaise country.

I was at the Tennessee game last year and sat in a section that was 90% Tennessee fans. Nearly every single person I met was extremely cordial and inviting. The atmosphere before the game was great, although to be honest most Vols fans expected a big win over a down Irish team and that makes being a gracious host all the easier. But they did seem like great fans who just love the game of football. After the game there were the usual assorted yahoos you find everywhere, but for the most part Vols fans were still polite and friendly even in defeat.

At least I think so. I was largely ignoring them and swimming in thoughts that Ty had just ended any chance of getting fired after 3 years.

When UT came to visit in 2001,we kept on getting compliments on how they were treated. The same goes with how we got treated in Knoxville last year. Great people! I'll see everyone at the Backer! Go Irish!

Them's my cuzins. Gotta love ol' Lulu and Junior.

For what it's worth, every UT fan I've ever spoken to who has made the trip up to ND has been extremely complimentary as well.

UT saves its hatred for Florida fans, much as we save it for Wolverines.

This thing with Sanders did not go well. Basically his quotes were him being unsatisifed with the offense, but it wasnt because they weren't working hard to fix it...basically it came across as this being a forced move.

Cutcliffe back to Knoxville next year is a logical move.

You see, if Tennessee had these two starting at guard, then Fulmer would have himself one hell of an offense. Its poor recruiting, thats all.

The folks from Florida have put together a scream of a website. Very funny.
I noticed something:
Lulu & Junior look a lot like Penn State fans - - just dressed in orange instead of blue/white. One main difference: Tennessee fans are probably the nicest fans you can find - - win or lose. Before or after a game, I'm sure that Lulu & Junior would offer you plenty of food and drink and good cheer. Penn State fans would throw the food & drink at you and jeer.
Let's be sure to treat Lulu & Junior this weekend the same great way they would treat us.

Brats and beer for everyone!

On behalf of all Florida fans...FINISH THEM. Show no mercy. Beat them 'til the white meat shows. Make them weep gravy tears. End them.

"With hate's last breath, I spit at thee..." Ahab had the right idea.

Am I alone in initially thinking that the above picture came from some sort of SNL skit? I swear that is Chris Farley on the left...

Speaking of funny pictures, check out Jimmy Clausen's mugshot on Rivals. He appears to be going for a "Dune"-era Sting look.

Old school. I suppose I can respect that.

Orson, didn't your buddy Stranko call for a Vol upset on Saturday?

Do you think that Lulu and Junior, if cut, would bleed pure gravy? And if so, would it be brown Thanksgiving-style gravy, or would it be like a white, sausage gravy that would be put on biscuits at a Waffle House? Discuss...

Lulu....

She's a MAN, baby!

hey,i don't appreciate yall talkin' 'bout my parents that way

He may have... but he's got a Spurrier problem. So do we, but of a slightly lesser degree.

Let's add Jason Whitlock to the list of ppl who are just jerks

and the list of people who have no idea what they are talking about. He's an ASS CLOWN!!

I personally have never been to a game in Neyland or been in South Bend when the Ernge comes through, but I'm surprised the fans are getting rave reviews. The majority of fans in Nashville are rude, classless, and more obnoxious than any other group of fans. I'm glad there are a few classy ones that people have run into, but I've always been disgusted by them. Maybe I'm just bitter from one making fun of my ND jacket after the '91 loss when I was just a wee lad...

I mean, do these idiot writers have any idea what they're doing? Not for anything, but why would any school EVER hire a black head coach, when, no matter what happens, everything you EVER do will be under the microscope as racially motivated? Don't these writers realize this is what they are doing??

Brian,

You may have a good point, but unfortunately, nobody's listening to that. Colleges are going to be forced to hire more minorities in the next few years, because there are more qualified coordinators now, and I envision the NCAA adopting an NFL style hiring policy which mandates that minorities receive some interviews.

I've been to Neyland on two occasions and had great times in both situations.
Sure, the UT fans are redder than fire engines, but they are good-natured in their ribbing. They'll even share their bourbon if you ask nicely.
The band parades to the stadium playing "Rocky Top" the whole way. All in all, a really good college football atmosphere.
By the way - here is a link to the Rocky Top lyrics in case you are interested - http://www.lyricsfreak.com/n/nit...and/ 101246.html
"Half bear the other half cat" - not sure what that means, but the girl sounds like a hell of a lot of fun to me!
Go Irish.

How about just hiring the best guy and best fit? That would seem to work out the best

Hey Brian, hope you see you're contradicting yourself here. Your second comment makes sense, your first is about as helpful as herpes. It fuels the sort of people who want mandatory minority hirings; then they rile you up some more; and the vicious circle marches on. The minority head coach has turned to be the right fit lots of places. Other places, a minority hasn't worked out, and the coach moved on without anyone screaming racism: Michigan State, Oklahoma, Louisville, the Buccaneers, the Bulls, the Magic, etc.

The only time anyone criticizes besides the lunatic fringe is when a team uses inconsistent hiring patterns, or gets rid of a minority for someone blah or unqualified (Red McCombs and Al Davis, please pick up the white courtesy phone). Notre Dame screwed itself by letting Davie and Faust hang around for five years, and allowing the perception to develop that letting coaches finish out their contracts was commingled with ND exceptionalism and standards.

Jason Whitlock is wrong in implying that race had anything to do the contract extension offered to Weis. Race is now involved in the debate only because Whitlock suggested that it should be. I find it interesting that Whitlock feels the need to "play the race card" in this situation. To advocate that the contract extension offered to Weis by Notre Dame is racist is akin to Whitlock essentially admitting that he possesses absolutely no understanding of the situation. As a Notre Dame student, and an avid follower of Notre Dame football for years, I have the utmost respect for Ty Willingham. That being said, I respect the coaching ability of Weis far more than Willingham’s. It was unfair that Willingham was prematurely fired but that decision was independent of race. That decision was based upon the performance of the football program during Willingham’s tenure. The success of Willingham’s first season was far less substantial than the success of Weis’ first season. Notre Dame gave an extension to Weis because the administration feels, as does the vast majority of the student population, that Weis is our coach of the present and future. If Whitlock had been at the pep rally before the USC game, or the game itself, it would be impossible for him to deny the electricity that pervaded the Notre Dame campus. If Weis proves to be unsuccessful, which I highly doubt given his previous track record, there is no doubt in my mind that Notre Dame will fire him long before 2015. The fact is that the Notre Dame community considers itself a family, and Weis, as an alumus, is part of that family. During Willingham’s tenure, he was just doing his job. There was never a sense that he cared about this program as much as Weis does. Weis understands completely the aura that surrounds Notre Dame football, how much the program means to its fans, and his role as head coach. Notre Dame rewarded him accordingly with the extension.
