Dang. Coach Weis doesn't let up, does he? I wonder how Coach Willingham's golf game is coming along?
If these kids are good enough for CW, they're good enough for me. I suspect that what he's really doing is trying to keep ND in the news, keep the buzz and momentum going. Maybe force our opponenents into some early recruiting errors as they try to keep pace. I'm sure there are some very strategic reasons for the early offers.
Beat's the heck out of waiting until Christmas to start making offers. EarlB. | Email | Homepage | 03.07.06 - 3:10 pm | #

I propose a new rule. No more willingham. No Ty mentions. No more golf stuff.
The guy is gone, time to move on. I propose we no longer rely on the memories of pain for motivation, but look to the great positives now in place and delivering dividends. Certainly Charlie doesn't mention "T" or "W". Holtz never talked about "F". Time to get over it and be over with it.
I'll tell you what. For every post that does not mention "F", "B" or "T", I will donate $1 to the Zora Zorich scholarship fund. Could be quite a sum. However, any mention of these afor mentioned coaches, I will donate the entire sum to The Ohio State University Athletic Bail Fund for the temporary freedom of talented scholar athletes in Columbus. I support your valiant quest, Yago, even though I thought the rule book said we could gloat until July. Now's fine with me though.

Yago,
Chill a little bit. Earl B.'s post (and others' previously) are funny - that's all. There is no need to feel guilty seeking a little comic relief from our past coaches. We did it with Faust and his bumblings with the Akron Zips and with Davie and his Brent Musbergeresque fumblings on ESPN.
I think someone else said it quite well --- if Lionel is continuing to get paid by our university, then the comic relief is fair game. On second thought, however, if Lionel devotes all of these unearned payments to the Zora Zorich scholarship, then we'll be singing a different tune about him. Way to go schmucks. I just wrote a $3 check to OSU Criminal Relief Fund.
And Andy, humor is a deft use of irony, a whimsical turn, a well crafted limerick or maybe vivid sardonic imagery. Put downs are easy. Some funny, of course. Clever? Less so.
And so, I offer a new challenge. One dollar to the Zora Zorich Fund for every criminal charge, indictment, NCAA investigation, program sanctions and/or conviction of any national football player or program player either enrolled or having signed a letter of commitment at the time of said violation/criminal act. That seems more important to cover these days. Yago | Email | Homepage | 03.07.06 - 6:15 pm | #

Watch the crack on Faust please or I'll donate to the Notre Dame age discrimination/Kim Dunbar Fund. Congratulations to Charlie "I'm a sandwich away from a stroke myself" Weis. He's doing what Miami, FSU and 3/4 of college football did for the last 20 years. Now thats intelligent, and I can finally see why he's so much better than Ty. zippy tressel | Email | Homepage | 03.07.06 - 10:04 pm | #

Ah, yes, Zippy's blazing tOSU intellect once again has confounded us. Here I am, trying desperately to figure out WHAT THE HELL DOES EATING A SANDWICH HAVE TO DO WITH HAVING A STROKE!!! I'm sorry to break off mid-sentence, but no tOSU educational joke could beat that comment. You've just summed up every argument against your team and its fans. Strokes are caused by blockages in arteries in the brain caused by plaque that can take decades to form. I mean honestly, you could have just went with a heart attack joke.....he's a big guy, we'd all get it. Yet instead you tried to compensate and up the slam one intellectual degree, and in doing so doomed yourself to a lifetime of second-guessing every thoughtless, witless little comment you come up with at every watering-hole tavern you go to. You are a walking posterboy for the desperate need for additional educational funds within the state of Ohio. Finally, the "ebjificashun sysim" of the great state of Kentucky can proudly claim superiority, and bask in the warm glow of intellectual superiority, no matter how few they hold it over. May God have mercy on you soul. Brad | Email | Homepage | 03.07.06 - 11:00 pm | #

......or YOUR soul. Whatever. I'd feel the desperate need to place my foot in my mouth at the moment, except it is 11:00 at night and I'm drunk, which is a perfectly acceptable socially-stereotypical excuse for an Irishman. Also, I can't find my feet at the moment. Brad | Email | Homepage | 03.07.06 - 11:05 pm | #

If Zippity-Dippity feels the need to put down others to make his points, then I applaud the level of class he has chosen to bestow upon himself. Seems to fit him well, based on his past typo-challenged diatribes.
I am encouraged by Weis' focus on long-term success for the program, and finding players who he feels are strong both athletically and in character.
Of course, if the next verbal commit has a last name of 'Northington' or similar...then I may get worried. c-stone | Email | Homepage | 03.08.06 - 12:50 am | #

it's clear zippy is from OSU. only a buckeye could connect a sandwich with having a stroke.

Brad - I have no idea what you just said but it sounded good!
And since when are there rules in the blogosphere, Yago?? Humor is the most powerful form of therapy. Well, according to Patch Adams it is. Man, that crazy clown doctor kills me. Sorry, I digress...since the BD/TW Project failed miserably and subjected even the casual Irish Fan to constant ridicule and nightmares I say why not get a good chuckle from it all? Those two butt-pirates owe us at LEAST that.
I say, if they're in good taste, keep 'em coming. TW is laughing too....all the way to the bank. tc | Email | Homepage | 03.08.06 - 8:02 am | #

"He's doing what Miami, FSU and 3/4 of college football did for the last 20 years."
He is? How many consensus Nat'l Championships do those schools have? Combined? Yeah I thought so. How many Super Bowl rings do those schools have on staff? Wait a minute, how many D1 head coaches do Miami/FSU have on staff?
CW and staff are operating at a much higher level than FSU and Miami. CW and staff took a 6-6 team and went 9-3. Larry Coker took over an 11-1 team and just spent two seasons at 9-3.
Please, zippy tOSU fan, if you can't say anything intelligent, don't say anything at all. Didn't your mom teach you that or something? Really, no one will know how slow you are if you don't say anything . . . . They'll just assume you're a nice quiet person, instead of another flaming Big Integer putz.
BTW, brilliant post Brad. atepesm | Email | Homepage | 03.08.06 - 10:37 am | #

From my calculator: 7.25ypc. Wow! Either his HS's conference is weak or he runs behind some road graders. Those numbers are just gawdy. I know he will most likely play D but clearly if he gets his hands on the ball he will be thinking endzone like another Chicago area product. SeanH | Email | Homepage | 03.08.06 - 11:02 am | #

Locking up the Chicago talent ensures top 20 recruiting classes every year. Pepper in the studs from other states, and you have a steady flow of talent, year in, year out.
Although not at the same level, UT locks up Texas. SC locks up California. If ND can lock up Chicago and the midwest, we'll be right up with them and look for top 5 status with the national blue chippers. preetom | Email | Homepage | 03.08.06 - 3:01 pm | #

"out in the real world, nobody gives a dam about where you went to school"
Wow, my bank account definitely disagrees without. Someone needs to move in off the farm and join the "real world". You can believe that craziness if you want, but someone isn't a very smart capitalist.
Or maybe it was just because I understand how to combine a noun and a verb in an appropriate manner.
"Out in the real world . . . Its all about results"
ND - 12 National Championships.
tOSU - 5?
FYI . . . 12 > 5

"But seriousily, does Notre Dame teach a different kind of accounting compared to OSU??? Do they teach a different kind of Law??? "
No, but ND evidently has an infinitely superior English department judging from Zippy's 5th grade writing style. My God, this is about the 40th identical post from him (up to random permutations of spelling and grammatical errors) in the last 3 months. scott | Email | Homepage | 03.08.06 - 8:13 pm | #

Wow, actual drug dealers on tOSU's team. I, for one, am completely shocked. Never in all my life did I expect the fine, upstanding, and prestigious Ohio State University to bend so low.
No, wait a minute, I did expect that. At least the team can now get its goods from someone they can trust. Brad | Email | Homepage | 03.09.06 - 8:43 am | #

Nagel is the first amigo of the return of the "Three Amigos".
After watching his videos on several sites he is going to be a very, very good one. He's from the same nasty mold as All-Americans Stonebreaker, Bolcar, and Pritchett known in 1988 as the "Three Amigos". He has tenacity, great football speed, can read coverages, and a nose for the ball. He hits like a truck. The running backs would freeze just before he hit them with a full head of steam. He's going to wreak havoc on the field and terrorize both running backs and quarterbacks. I read he was training hard to cut his speed to 4.4 and increase his size by the time he gets to Notre Dame.
The way he hits reminded me of the time in 1988 at the LA coliseum when I saw Frank Stams bury USC's Rodney Peete head into the turf while Stan Smagala returned one of Peete's errant passes for a touchdown. I don't think Peete has been right since.
Our first two 2007 verbals are great pickups for Notre Dame. Irish '81 | Email | Homepage | 03.09.06 - 2:07 pm | #

My family does not have much money, and I didn't go to Notre Dame, but that's not an excuse for me to be a complete imbecil. I may be wrong, but last I checked basic grammar and language skills do not require a $120,000 education. They teach that in the second grade.
P.S. Did I miss zippy's rebutal post to my rant before it was removed? I am so disappointed. I had so eagerly awaited his child-like intellect's response. Lastly, make fun of fat people all you want, but know two things. One, Ohio is one of the leaders in the nation in obesity. Look at an OSU fan for proof. Second, leave John Candy out of this. The man was brilliant. Brad | Email | Homepage | 03.10.06 - 8:25 am | #

ND Spring practice starts on March 22nd. The Blue/Gold game will be on April 22nd. Not sure on when the practices will be during that month. Pat | Email | Homepage | 03.11.06 - 2:48 pm | #
