You underestimate Mark May...

My vote for an off-site Spring Game is the RCA Dome(Do they still call it that?) in Indianapolis. It is not that far away from the Bend and downtown Indy is great. Lots of places to eat and drink within walking distance of the stadium. With Brian Polian on the staff, you think Charlie could convince Brian's Dad to help work out the details?

Alterior motive: I live in Columbus. 3 hours on I-70 and I am in downtown Indy. Chicago is a an ~8 hour drive.

I think getting the BG game into either Soldier Field or the RCAWhatever would be a fantastic idea. A game at the Soldier would bring in a ton of recruits.

Alterior motive: At these locations, they could serve booze, meaning I wouldn't have to sneak it in as usual.

ND would probably ask that alcohol not be served. Killjoys! Though as I said there are plenty of places to lube up within blocks of the RCA Dome.

Great write-up! I'll be looking forward to the Game Day predictions....as it's so much fun to watch those non-believers back peddle.

As for where to have th B&G in the future....Bigger is better and even though I'm in Indy...I say the Windy City brings more recruits!

See you all in SB this weekend! One of the only ND games that my nerves aren't blown through the roof!

Yago: I am sure you have seen Oldie's 2005 Season highlight reel. He does a nice job of letting May hang himself.

Especially love the "Urkel" caption under the video. Priceless.

Not true about the alcohol not being served. I live near Philly, and the Navy games played at the old "Vet" stadium, plus those played subsequently at Washington,
Baltimore, and the Meadowlands all served beer. These were obviously pro venues and the taps are already in place. Believe me, they want to make the money. Also, it would be "ulterior" not "alterior".

I had a feeling I was spelling it wrong. Too lazy to go to dictionary.com first.

I knew I spelled it wrong, I just didn't want to be the one to point it out. Plus, I wanted my post to match. I find it more pleasing that way.

Great post, Pat. But why does it take you over a week between posts? Boring.

Hey, where can we make a donation to Pete even if the dinner isn't an option. Any direction?

Thanks, again, Pat, for your hard work (and the other guys, too!)

The second I saw that the BG game might not be in Rock's House, I thought that Soldier Field would be perfect, given our history of playing there. It may take away from the recruiting aspect of being on campus, but it's certainly closer than Indy, and they could still easily move everyone back to campus after the game. It could also make a nice recruiting segway (sp?) RE: our barnstorming in future seasons, and the hopes of recruits playing there in their future careers (not necessarily for the Bears of course, but I digress).

It wouldn't hurt to have the BG game in Indy once in the next decade though. The Indy Catholic schools like Roncalli, Cathedral, Bishop Chatard, and Cardinal Ritter are all at the heights of some great football runs, and starting to send some of their best players to other Catholic colleges (Mathias Kiwanukis to BC). Plus, because the Bend is so far North, Indy has faded a bit from an Irish stronghold, and a visit could help boost that back up. For example, my aunt asked me why I wasn't rooting for Purdue against ND since my cousin goes there. I just looked at her flabbergasted and responded with, "Because it's Notre Dame!!", and at the same time thinking "and because it's Purdue...."

We need to keep a hold of the state of Indiana, and the area of Chicago, no doubt about it.

Either Soldier Field or Indy would be great for playing the BG game. Obviously a trip to Chicago would help recruiting there. With the University of Louisville becoming a much bigger player in football, a trip to Indy wouldn't hurt to help solidify the Irish in the minds of high schoolers in the central/southern parts of the state either. As for the recruits missing the campus experience, they still can take an unofficial or official visit to see a live game at Rock's House. And can you imagine how pumped you would get as an 18 year old football player coming out onto the field at an NFL stadium with Charlie Weis?

I think more than anything it'd be worth it to play a scrimmage in an NFL stadium just to keep this buzz that Charlie's started going. I mean, if you're a high school football player, the fact that Notre Dame is back to being big enough to play scrimmages on NFL fields...I think for impressionable young minds that is DAMN cool. OSU and UM don't do that, and kids will think about that, regardless of the reasons why.

ok so let me hear you guys, Chicago...Chicago...Chicago, it would be wonderful to do Soldier Field.

Re: Herbstriet

I also heard Herbstriet say that on the Collin Cowherd (I think I'm spelling that right) show on ESPNradio late last week.
