Could Jimmy Clauson be the next coming of Ron Paulus? :P

You mean, as in the next "guy whose name people have trouble spelling"?

Now thats pretty funny.

EsPN is ready to go live to a feed from Pittsburgh w/ Beano and his Heisman prediction....and the "Draft Guru" is ready to predict JC's spot in the draft.

Beano has already started referring to Clausen as "Jimmy Two Times" on account of how many times he's going to win the Heisman win the Heisman.

"[Weis] but turned down a chance to sign the class's No. 1 QB prospect, Arkansas' Mitch Mustain, so he could save room for Clausen in 2007."

Holy buckets.

Which raises the question: what #1 player will we pass on this year?

You had to think that we were the front-runners all along, given the history of Clausen QBs playing for fat coaches. Pete never had a chance.

i bet mark may just pissed himself

I bet Jimmy has special shoes to make him jump higher.
Just don't take the "bread out of Jimmy's mouth."
Apparently, Jimmy is sweet on ND.

Very Good news, the potential for us to land other top recruits has gone up ten-fold... feeling good right now :).

Times are looking good fellas.

Mike, that was hilarious hilarious.

Not trying to be a damper, but Jones and Frazier - no way we keep them both unless there is a position switch (likely Jones) in the future.

excellent seinfeld reference, Tony. Heath..I agree--when reading that espn article saying clausen was likely to become quinn's replacement I had to think to myself, "didn't we just recruit two highly rated qb's?"

Very true about Jones and Frazier. One or both could very well leave next spring if they don't own the competition against Clausen. Then again, Leinart sat behind some guy named Carson Palmer for a few years and that seemed to work out for him. Yes, Jones and Frazier are a year ahead, but anyone think that if Clausen is as good as everyone thinks that he's sticking around for four? If Jones or Frazier hangs around for five and Clausen is gone in three, they'd almost guarantee the starting spot.

NDDL04 hit the nail on the head about our recruiting possibilities. Even if Clausen never plays a down at ND, he should bring in some top talent with him. If Weis starts filling up his 25 spots quick, that could put a lot of pressure on the defensive guys he's targeting to commit early or risk losing their spot.

And why the heck does the presser have to be at 0830? I'm sure as heck not getting up on a Saturday at 0530 to hear ANY high schooler talk.

Dang it. Fraser, not Frazier.

It's 8am, Saturday April 22nd and I'm GLUED to the TV screen. IRISH fans rejoice!

Well, I guess now that Clausen is a Domer the rest of the football world should just give up!! The kid plays division 4 ball in SoCal. He has no competition and has Wendell Tyler's son as an overhyped tailback as well who has ridiculous numbers playing against slow white boys like me. Clausen will be a good QB but please don't jump off a blarney stone into some green beer. His team plays NOBODY right now in high school. He's never been challenged let alone hit. Oaks Christian is a new school that neither of his brothers played for. I'll reserve judgment for the first time you guys play any kind of defense in '07.

Many fans are well aware of the level of competition in Clausen's league and the superior talent levels of his own team. But they are also aware of the many, many scouts who say that regardless of the talent disparity, Clausen has all of the tools to be a very successful college quarterback.

byron just got pwned.

Always some clown out there ready to dampen the good news. Pay attention to who was after the kid. Carroll was in his house this week trying to get a commit. Thats all you need to know.
Great news for the Irish and more on the way.

He went to the Irish because he didn't want to wait behind Mark Sanchez at USC

lh24,

Not some clown who wants to dampen the news. Not an ND fan. Just pointing out the obvious and if you and PAT could READ at all, I did say that he WILL be a good QB for your beloved Irish. Must be that fine education you received while you were at ND. You guys are quality!!

Heismanpundit (a USC grad and general PAC10 fan) put up a back-handed compliment to the Irish on his page regarding the Clausen announcement. Kind of funny.

Now, now Bryon. No need to get worked up. Besides, Clausen picking ND means more than his eventual production on the field. It signifies that ND is finally getting its recruiting mojo back.

This says it all....

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/r...tory? id=2417732

Speaking of backhanded compliments... here's an article from LA explaining why Clausen is deathly afraid of a completely untested redshirt and some guy named Booty. "Yeah, we're just so deep at QB skill that Mr. All World QB was afraid he'd never see the field. So he chose lowly ND." http://www.dailynews.com/sports/...orts/ ci_3737834
Unfortunately, our good friend Ramona and every other idiot spouting this theory should listen to the kid himself. (From ESPN): "Some of Clausen's critics at USC suspect Clausen chose Notre Dame because the Irish starting QB job will be vacant in 2007, and USC's won't. Highly touted Mark Sanchez is expected to take over for Leinart this coming season.
"That's not a factor at all," Clausen said. "Most people are probably going to think that's a factor, but it's not. I'm the kind of guy who likes to compete, and that's what I'm all about, is competing and getting better and stuff like that. ... So, if Mark Sanchez does play this year and that's the place I wanted to go, I'd go there." "

In reality though, poor Poodle is sitting at home in the dark listening to Simple Plan and crying Rudy-style into his Leinart replica jersey.

Pat,

I agree. Weis is definitely putting the "mojo" back in recruiting for you guys.... And Clausen is welcome to go wherever he sees fit. I have no problem with that. It just reminds me of any out of state guy that Michigan recruits that gets the label as the next "woodson" etc.. Because its ND magnifies this thing into something that its not and its just ridiculous. Anyway, enjoy the up coming season. It should be another fun campaign all over the country. I'm thinking LSU, OSU, ND or Oklahoma this year. Although I have concerns about your D. West Virginia has an easy schedule but I think Louisville on the road is enough of a stumbling block.

Charlie's not playing a Freshman QB in '07. I'll bet my Fiesta Bowl tickets.

Jimmy Clausen could be anyone short of that other guy who's initials are JC (and who's mom ND is named after) and I'd say hold your horses, wait until he's on campus and in uniform. That's great that he's planning on enrolling early and will be there for next year's spring game--He's still a 17 year old kid. 17 year old kids are notoriously fickle. "Committing" at this point means nothing--this isn't NCAA 2006, recruits can break committments.

If he comes in and takes the starting job away from Sharpley, Fraser, and Jones, fantastic--I trust that Weis will put the ball in the hands of the most capable kid. I'm thrilled that we've got a verbal, because it does indeed show we are back (Everyone focuses on the west coast USC--South Carolina, the East Coast USC, was trying pretty hard too, and they've got a decent coach who's gotten his QB's accolades and passing stats...). But we've got 2 good QB's coming in this year who will have a year in the system. Let's worry about 2007 when the time comes--for now, I'm more worried about Walls starting at CB.

Hey Yago, you should have bet your Fiesta Bowl tickets this year, as to avoid that Buckeye rape

I think he's actually closer to 19 right now, he had to repeat the 6th grade and didn't start kindergarden until he was 6. I don't think he's backing out of this commitment, he's been counciled on this decision like theres no tomorrow and has figured out whats in his best interest.

But great point, overall.
This is the day and they are the team...

I just wish that day would get here a little quicker.

Good times guys. good times!

Isn't Jimmy a little older than most HS seniors-to-be? I'm not sure it matters but his maturity may be a little more beyond the typical kid making this decision.
