My roommates and I took a shot with Kenny Scott in our dorm room on his recruiting visit to ND. He told me, "I'm the #4 ranked DB in Florida, but I SHOULD be ranked #1."
Vontez Duff then introduced Kenny to some SMCers, whom he tried to charm by saying, "Who's from St. Mary's? Hi. I know Coach Willingham." Pantalones | Email | Homepage | 08.30.06 - 11:22 pm | #

Penn State's DBs are going to be highly disciplined and very solid as usual. Would I prefer a more experienced unit going into South Bend? Sure, but I wouldn't trade PSU's starters for MSU's for all the tea in China. I think you're overrating MSU in a big way.
Penn State hasn't been carved up since the MNC Miami team had their way with them in the 2001 opener. That's not to say Quinn & Co. don't have me quaking in my boots right now because they absolutely do..... Brian | Email | Homepage | 08.31.06 - 12:25 am | #

Well Brian, I somewhat agree with you, but as I said, at least to me there really isn't much of a difference between the #2 and #9 unit. It's almost like a big tie after Michigan and before Air Force, Army, and Purdue.
I realize that PSU has great athletes and I think King is going to be a superb player. But I kept thinking back to last year's ND secondary that had fantastic, yet inexperienced, athletes in Ambrose Wooden, Tommy Zbikowski, and Chinedum Nduwke and still gave up a lot of big plays. Moreso than any other position, save perhaps OL, I think experience really is key to a good secondary. The fact that PSU is the only team with no returning starters is why I knocked them down a bit as there is no solid veteran to help bring along the new starters and keep them focused during a game.
I also have a feeling that MSU's Nemehiah Warrick is going to be a pretty good strong safety. Then again, I've been wrong plenty of times before. Pat | Email | Homepage | 08.31.06 - 7:48 am | #

You guys do a great job of previewing by position. Is there any chance you can summarize by Team, so that I can print out your analysis before the game and get an overview of what to look for during the game?
I know it's a pain in the ass to reformat, but armed with this info, just summarized by team, I could easily settle in and have a primer with everything I need to know.
If not, thanks anyway! Great stuff. Powdermonkey | Email | Homepage | 08.31.06 - 8:42 am | #

Powedermonkey - I was thinking the same thing. Already cut and pasted everything posted on G-Tech but having them all by team in one spot would be nice. My son is going to think I'm some college football genius! Eddie | Email | Homepage | 08.31.06 - 8:48 am | #

Enough people seem to want that so I'll see if I can whip something up. Pat | Email | Homepage | 08.31.06 - 9:23 am | #

One side note about MSU S Nehemiah Warrick is that he has decent bloodlines. His cousin, Peter, can play the game of football a little as well. Barney M. | Email | Homepage | 08.31.06 - 11:21 am | #
