I like the band spelling out N D on either side of the tunnel as the team runs out. Have they done that at the other home games? I haven't noticed it

and I love Tuna Jr. trundling onto the field 50 yards behind the rest of the team. you know its game time when...

Honey, look! Dolphins!

Ok, these Vonage commercials have just got to go. I think I'll try to keep count this game.

GO IRISH!!!!

god i hope we open with no huddle

Don't remember seeing the ND in the past.

Looking good so far. I wouldn't mind having this game over by halftime.

Oh, goodie... more Big Ten officiating vs. a Big Ten team...

115 out of 117? Wow...that's not good for them. And here we are, running right at them.

George West first career touchdown. Decent block by McKnight out there...I've thought that he hasn't been blocking as well as Stovall last year.

way to use the speed of the freshmen. I've been waiting all season to see that sort of stuff

West turned on the jets.......and that's a lot of meat on P-due OL.

By the by, so much for Tiller and Charlie not getting together before the game - there goes that rumor.....

listening to Don and Allen via the internet, since AFN won't show the replay here in Japan until 7:30 pm tonight (it's 4 AM now, by the way). That reverse SOUNDED beautiful, at least!

nate, sorry you missed it. it was nice. West was split out wide left, they brought him in motion. Snapped when he was near the slot. to quote charlie (talking about Prince): "it was just like, woosh. I don't know how to describe it." Harris was out there to block for hime, but by the time a Purdue player got anywhere over to the near side West was already in and Harris was just standing around with that "damn I want to hit someone look on his face."

wow. nice punt coverage

nice block in the back by 67 :(

West was actually split wide right. McKnight had a nice block that let him make it to the endzone. And a nice little celebration...after a couple of small strut steps, he handed the ball to the official.

Purdue going right down the field now. Wouldn't be surprised to see them try to pick on Walls.

Does it seem to anyone else that Purdue got away with more than a few holds on that drive?

Brockington today huh?

We do have other people on offense besides Darius, right? How about someone else touching the ball this time...

ND must have started Michigan State's annual implosion. Started about two games early this year. Too bad...I actually would have liked to have seen them win a couple more games this year.

Where did the running game come from? And holes for the running back to run through? Huh?

wow... that was a hole.

okay, so I'm really starting wonder if Minter is ever going to teach the D to defend the option (here's looking at you brockington)

curse you rhema!!!!!! catch the damn ball

Perfect pass...McKnight drops the touchdown. Darn...McKnight has had a couple of bad drops this year.

wooo... crazy throw-back jersey for Florida over on CBS.

god... i love the way brady runs play action when he's on. even the ref doesn't believe it

Little redemption for Rhema on that drive. All in all, the O looks comfortably in synch, better than most of what we've seen this season.

I am happy with our offense but our defense looks as bad as Purdon't

Right as I was about to type "boy, I wish the defense would get a stop", there's a turnover. Nevermind...

well that is one way to stop them

i'm so annoyed with this "horse people" commercial, as my husband calls it.

Never has so much been said about the exploits of someone's family's high school sports expoits by so few.

maybe we can feed the "horse people" and that fat guy to the dolphins - and use the extra time to stop the clock on change of possessions.

amen brother tim

Did you see Walker just blind side the rusher just then? 45 ended up on his back.

Calvin Johnson 14, Virginia Tech 0. Beautiful!

O-line even looks better. Building steam and confidence with that run-heavy opening drive really seems to have done the trick, everyone seems settled in nicely now.

Didn't see that one coming.

yes!

Who saw THAT coming?? Go Smarlkshdga

can we find Mo and take his hands back and give them to rhema? Its for the good of the university Mo...

i like the fake

yeah, why is Rhema not catching those? He has time to juggle it but not to catch it.

is it nap time yet??

Still would have liked to see that touchdown come from a Quinn pass. I know individual awards and statistics don't matter, but I still would like to see Quinn with the TD's and back in the Heisman discussion as a serious candidate.

Soo... how does that go into Samardzija's stats? Rushing yards?

World's largest bass drum is the like the world's largest ball of string--no one really cares except the owner.

Its a rushing TD.

GT is threatening Virginia Tech again...they keep playing like this and they'll win the ACC.

Georgia Tech walked into Virginia Tech's kitchen, took the cheese, made a few sandwiches, grabbed a frothy glass of milk, sat down on the couch, put their feet up on the coffee table, and grabbed the remote. 21-0...wow.

you are kdding me

You have got to be kidding me. That sucks...so much for cruise control the rest of the game.

GT up 21-0. come on guys, make us look better.

Zibby, come on. please. I'm wearing your jersey. don't make me feel stupid

The "Looney Tunes" coverage technique... ow...

In other news, the severe weather alert in the stands doesn't bode well

we cannot stop the big play. when are we going to learn?

Never has so much been said about the exploits of someone's family's high school sports expoits by so few.

something said on the TV commentary?

Dang--big play TD...

That, my friends, is why we're nowhere near a top 10 team (yet). We'll still probably cruise in this game, but damn that was emblematic of how bad our D can be at times.

way to get out of bounds darius

I commented about this in another thread, but it's raised its ugly head again...

Zibby's tackling has been pretty poor this season. On that long Purdue TD, Zibby had the guy lined up but just lowered his shoulder and tried to knock the receiver down. If Zibby had stuck out his left arm and wrapped the guy up, that's a tackle at the spot of the catch. Zibby had several similar missed "tackles" in the MSU game (first half in particular). For a guy with as much talent as he has, he really needs to get back to better fundamentals on his tackles. I love the guy, but that's bad execution of fundamentals!

ask a Weis a dumb question, get a smart answer

I'm decently happy with the score right now, but that last defensive series was just all too familiar. How the heck did that happen? Not good. And what's been going on with Zibby? My girlfriend, who has never watched a football game until last year's season, just made a comment about his tackling problems over the last couple of games.

Weis is certainly unafraid to embarass NBC reporters who ask dumb questions. That was great!

I love those interviews at the half with Weis. Holtz, Davie, and Willingham just always seemed to want to get away saying as few words as possible. Weis' are interesting and entertaining.

Crap...had the TV on mute...can anyone give a quick recap of the interview?

Horrible spot on GT's last drive...CJ had the first down and they marked it about half a yard short of where he was.

Nice Flag incident at the end of MSU-ILL. Jonelle gone by the end of the year.

Why do we have to watch NFL stuff at half? Can we get ND stuff at half on Sunday nights?

And finally, can someone tell the defense what prevent means?

Reporter: They're predicting severe weather in the 2nd half - how will that affect your game?

Weis: Well, if there's severe weather, they'll clear the stadium and we'll be in the locker room, so it won't really affect us at all.

"Lets have a charles Schwabb conversation about the offense"? Jesus... come on NBC

YEEHA, Rhema!

ok what is happening to our kick off coverage?

what was the MSU-Ill flag incident

can we please tackle?? anyone?

So, that could have been ugly.

how 'bout terrell freakin lambert???

and has anyone noticed how the D does seem to play better after half?

though, i should've mentioned they do a pretty terrible job in the first half!

though, i should've mentioned they do a pretty terrible job in the first half!

Does anyone think we'll see Prince or Aldridge? Or would the weather keep them on the sideline?

darius must be over 30 touches now (pass and run combined). i'm sure we'll see the freshmen just to give darius a break

Laurence Olivier!? C'mon, NBC! Can't they find some non-jackasses to do this!?

Laurence Olivier!? C'mon, NBC! Can't they find some non-jackasses to do this!?

ugh... dolphins again

Maybe I was wrong to complain about Big Ten officials. It's some crummy officiating, but it's often in ND's favor at least...

man, i hate to be negative but we are NOT a good tackling team

lambert's turning into a big-play guy! ha! amazing...

if Purdon't players could catch that might actually in this game.

can we get more sideline reports like that: silent and short

Lambert got taken to school by Manningham a few weeks ago, but it looks like he got an education there! He's playing some good football* lately.

* (by ND DB standards)

so hayden can't tell a helmet from a shoulder, eh?

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO CATCHABLE

Man, it feels like Brady's getting sacked a lot this year. I'm sure it feels like it to him, too...

So, I haven't really felt like this game was in any doubt since the first quarter (and I'm usually very pessimistic), but the score is going to make this look pretty close. And they just showed a graphic that one of their WR has a record number of yards. That's ridiculous.

Nice Hit Zibby!!!!!!

Way to go, Irish. This was a game you guys could easily have lost, but you did well to run far enough away from them early and then tack on the 5th TD to keep that streaky Boilermaker offense from having a chance to come back. So, good job on keeping the season alive.

Still, I can't resist adding the following:

-Weis' retort at halftime wasn't THAT smart or funny - kinda rude, though. The question wasn't appreciably more inane than any other one I've heard.

-We've also learned that Brady shaves his whole body and this week wanted to get a pet cat (kiboshed by Chinedum)...wonder if that bolstered Boi's hopes that Brady ends up playing for his team?

-If the logic of comparing results vs. common opponents has any value, it could be said that you guys are, at least, as good as Illinois.

Now: take it easy, Domers - those were just JOKES. Lord knows y'all (and everybody else) take plenty of shots against my Buckeyes, but that's all right - if we can't talk a little bit of smack and laugh at ourselves a little bit, the great game of CFB isn't nearly as much fun.

Anyhoo: congrats on the win.

I guess all you Walker bashers owe Darius a heartfelt apology.

Did anyone see the interview with JLS where he slapped himself and said someone hit me? Can he just get over it? It didn't effect the outcome and it proves he's a classless ass. God I hope he gets fired soon

Matsut, I like your logic. Applying the transitive property to common opponents, it means ND would win handily against the Bucks by virtue of you guys not exactly dominating PSU :).

Anyway, a win is a win. But man, our D can be embarassingly bad at times.

A win is a win, but plenty of things to raise an eyebrow over. Let's hope Zibby didn't get a concussion on that punt return, because he looked out of it all game. The tackling wasn't very good at all, but I don't really have an issue with forcing Purdue to throw short passes all 2nd half and chew up the clock.

Let's hope that Travis Thomas' injury, not sure what it is at this point, isn't going to keep him out for very long. Brockington was decent, but I think ND missed TT's speed, especially when it comes to blitzing.

Boy, oh boy.

We have only one running back right now.

TThomas is hurt -- that leaves us 1.3 linebackers.

We are playing 9 DB's, which is odd since we only play 1.7 last year.

Geoff Price is clearly team MVP and All-American.

Vast majority of our sacks are coverage sacks -- and that's not a lot.

We still can't run real well especially if you consider Purdue is among the worst in the nation against the run.

Charlie did pull a lloyd carr on the half time question -- all half time questions are inane. Be patient.

What are we 3-0 when it rains?

USC is going to toast us if we do not put some consistency together in the coming weeks, toast...

This is a good ND team, but certainly not a top 10 yet. Not nearly.

AP - "For John L. Smith and Michigan State, the misery continues.

A week after blowing a 16-point, fourth-quarter lead to Notre Dame, the Spartans became the first Big Ten team to lose to the Illini since 2004. Jason Reda's 39-yard field goal with 6 seconds remaining lifted Illinois to the 23-20 victory on Saturday.

The Illini were 26-point underdogs."

why the hell does everyone assume we will get "toasted" by usc? do you think ND is better than nebraska? i sure as hell do. and usc beat nebraska what, 24-10?

USC is living on a LOT of hype right now. we're a long way from knowing whether they are really good.

oh, and as i recall when USC was being called the best team in history by some last year, we almost beat 'em. forgive me then if i'm not too scared by the '06 trojans...

I don't hear anyone complaining about Walker's "lack of speed" after this one. You guys are so fickle you should be ashamed. I don't care how bad Purdue's defense is, we didn't lose to Michigan b/c of Darius and I think he deserves ALOT more credit than he gets. Weis says he doesn't see Darius as a problem, why should any of you.

I don't think it is Darius's fault either. I believe our O-line is a big issue in tougher games. They don't give Darius good holes to work with. Not to offend Darius, but I would like to see Prince a little more when we are ahead just to get a feel for what he can do with the 1st string. We saw only a little of that today. BTW, great game for Darius today.

Re: USC - Cougar confidence is growing - 21-15 and almost recovered a fumble in the the 4th...

As gross it sounds, we should hope USC escapes with a W tonight and comes into our game undefeated. That's our only shot of vaulting up in the polls.

I think Yago's just saying that if our defense doesn't get some consistency, USC will hae their way with us.

Yago's on the money. We need decent LB play and some consistency.

Sitting in section 101 today with my wife and another couple. My friend's wife, as we lined up for the first field goal attempt says, "they should just snap it Samardzija and he should run it in".

Henceforth, a fake field goal play by ND shall be called a "Shannon".

Was at the game today and had a great time. Tickets have been mighty scarce under Weis so first time back in the stadium in a while. Thoughts on the game:
- The defense missed TT and Richardson.
- The 10+ yard cushions given the PU receivers were puzzeling.
- Brady looked like the 2005 edition we all know and love.
- Offensive penalties few and far between
- The rainstorm and winds fired up the crowd as we all got soaked. I think it reminded everyone of post-rain at MSU. Smiles all around!
- Charlie's 4th down plays today were perfect calls for what Purdue was doing.

GO IRISH!

After watching OSU-Iowa, I no longer want to be up against OSU in the NC game...let's hope we get in a nice BCS bowl and win it.

This just in: John L. Smith is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

This just in: Mattct is a idiot.

Stanford is looking horrible against UCLA...and the Bruins are struggling. This won't help ND with BCS standings.

Question for Jonnelle:

Who did you play yesterday?

Your face slap in the after game presser was idiotic. Focus on your current opponent and maybe you won't get your a** handed to you.......

Johnnelle, one slap-happy guy
