I've been praying that Quinn would not go to the Raiders. I don't care if that means he's not number 1 in the draft. |
I commented in a prior thread, but Quinn is not likely to go to the Lions. Early word has been that they're not really interested in a QB this year, as Kitna and McCown are at least serviceable and there are many more areas of need. I would be very (pleasantly) surprised if the Lions drafted BQ. All this may change at the combine, of course, if Mike Martz (Lions OC) falls in love with him... but Martz is pretty arrogant and believes he can turn pretty much anyone into a good NFL quarterback, so I can't see him insisting they spend a first round pick on a QB. |
sounds like lose-lose-lose for Brady to me. At least with the Bucs Brady would be back with MoSto and have a shot at a winning season within his first year or two. |
Off topic, but Major Wright to Florida. More great news. |
Nothing like a National Championship to help with recruiting. |
The Raiders have been a lock for JR since the Sugar Bowl - he has everything that franchise looks for in a draft pick/new hire: buzz. How quickly he squanders these talents once he comes into the clutches of dysfunctional raider nation remains to be seen, but the people hanging around outside the Oakland locker room haven't yet contributed as much to player development as they did at USC. I wish him well but BQ will be infinitely better off in Cleveland or Tampa Bay. |
We were hoping that Brady would NOT go to the Raiders or Detroit. We would like to see him go where: 1-He can work with a mentor..a starting QB who can help him learn the subtle nuiances that he'll need to be one of the GREATS at the NFL level, and 2-That he goes where there is a LINE what will protect him! We are hoping for Tampa Bay or Green Bay [yes, we feel that they may trade up to take him...and NOT because of his brother-in-law]. We wish Russell well...because, frankly, he's going to need it...if he succeeds, it will be nothing short of a miracle...he doesnt have the physical or MENTAL quickness to do the job at the NFL level. Food-for-thought. |
I'd like to see Brady with either Tampa Bay or Green Bay. God forbid he ends up in Oakland or Detroit! He's going to make a ton of money when drafted so I can't get too excited about "when" he is drafted. He will be successful. |
Predictions: |
JaMarcus has alot of bad habits that will in no way be cured while running for his life in Oakland. Sure he made it look easy to throw off his back foot over a struggling ND secondary, but the DB's in the NFL will eat that stuff up. |
The Panthers are still talking about trading up too, so that wouldn't necessarily be a bad situation for BQQB. |
I really wouldn't be suprised if Carolina jumped up to get Quinn. Delhomme is serviceable but that franchise needs some young blood for the future. Plus, Del Rio is close to Weis, so I'm sure he knows about everything there is to know about Quinn. |
What does Del Rio (assuming you mean Jack Del Rio)have to do with Carolina, he coaches Jacksonville!! |
John Fox is the Carlina coach. The team Minter and the D supposedly learned from before this year. |
Jason Peters is going to Gerogia Tech. |
Whoops. I'm slow. Give me a break. |
John Fox was also a Giants asst. coach. |
I guess the jerseys are kind of the same color...just trying to help you out Brad. |
I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but a bad game in the Sugar Bowl was probably the best thing that could have happened to Brady Quinn. Read the Sporting News' profile on the Raiders if you are unsure. JaMarcus Russell isn't as good as Quinn, he just had a better game that day. But he's got a lot of flaws. |
If anybody from the Raiders reads this blog I just want to say: Russell is a great pick and Quinn is really overrated! You guys are doing the right thing. Russell is like 10 feet tall and can hurl a Buick out of a football stadium. Or something like that. |
I heard he can throw footballs over mountains. Once, he ripped down two Redwoods, jumped with them to the Himalayas, and used them as skis going down Everest. True story. |
did any of you see the sportscenter piece by John Clayton a few weeks ago where he reported that Brady contacted the Browns and asked them to draft them. I think Cleveland would be a great place for him too. Their starting quarterback is former Akron QB Charlie Frye, and he is not leading them to the playoffs anytime soon, much less a winning record. Their line was terrible last year, and that fact is the only reason that I think they wouldnt take Quinn....if he was still available. The OT from Wisconsin would be a good fit for them too. I myself, being a Notre Dame alum from Cleveland who does really care about the NFL, am dying for a reason to root for the Browns. |
Quinn will not go to Oakland and anyone who thinks the Packers will take him is crazy. They still have Rodgers sitting on the bench. |
Starting quarterback for the Raiders, eh? Should Russell and Quinn be fighting over who will be number one or the cyanide capsule? |
As a Bears (Go BEARS!) fan and ND fan, it would kill me to see Brady in the Green and Yellow. Please, anyone but the Packers. |
Whitey, it would burn to see him there, but at least it wouldn't be as bad as seeing him in black and silver. I am a big Bears/ND fan, and it'd be hard to say which one is nearer and dearer to my heart, but BQ is the QB that I grew up with at ND, and I'd hate to see him in a situation like JaMarcus will be in next year with the Raiders. |
is it me or can you feel the arrogance and hate in poodle's words when he refuses to mention "the kid from ND" by name? |
Prediction: Quinn pulls his name from the 2006-7 draft, and in 2008 becomes a free agent. For the year he spends time in Boston working at some brokerage or political think-tank. Come 2008, most teams have shied away from him and he is picked up on the cheap ($175K) by the Patriots. Two years later he inherits the reigns from aging Tom Brady, and goes on to win 5 SuperBowls, plus 3 retroactive Heismans. |
Brady to Cleveland! Browns need someone who can actually quarterback, plus Brady will be closer to home. |
Brady Quinn to -- the Dolphins? I disregarded it, but the trade-up isn't out of the question. It makes sense to some extent. As long as it isn't Oakland or Detroit, or the New Jersey Generals. |
I live in GB, and believe me, the Packers are not sold on Rodgers. I could see them taking BQ if it's posible. |
looks like someone else wants to be drafted by the Browns too: |

Well, I just moved to Tampa, so for selfish reasons, the obvious. |
someone on the handle LoR fails to mention the law school which has put ND back on the map in the last decade...additiionally, those jokes about the "MBA dance " scenes did nothing to help the grad schools and i will happily point out that many an undergrad becomes a double domer out of desperation after 3-5 years of rejections from their dream schools...keep the peace and help another domer undergrad, grad, or subway,....thank you |
OT -- Per Rivals, an via UHND, it appears that 4 Star LB Brian Smith has left Iowa and committed to ND. |
The Panthers trading up to get Brady Quinn has been a hot rumor for a LONG time down here in the Carolinas. But, please, please, please, PLEASE Green Bay, do something smart, and pick up a quarterback who might actually NOT embarass the team after Favre leaves. |
Anyone hear anything about the scholarship we offered to the Poluszny (I know I spelled that wrong) kid? He's the brother of the guy at Penn St and apparently is also a LB prospect. Someone brought up that AJ Hawk wasn't a five-star recruit but had a pretty good college career. Here's to hoping we can say the same if we land some more under-the-radar defensive recruits. |
Brian Smith coming to the Irish def helps soften the blow from "that kid that left for that team down south." |
Matt: I read on the Irish Universe blog that they had offered him a scholarship and he was pretty excited. I also believe he is going to wait some time before he commits. I read elsewhere that his family are very much pro-ND and wanted his brother to go to ND as well but the offer was never made. Doh! |
Brian Smith's father is Chris Smith, who played fullback for Notre Dame 1981-1984. "Smitty", as he is known to friends and teammates, was absolutely one of the baddest hombres ever to lace 'em up for the Irish. He was Allen Pinkett's lead blocker, and when carrying the ball, would brutally punish tacklers (Check out what he did vs. BC in the '83 Liberty Bowl). In short, Chris Smith was one nasty dude on the field, and a wonderful gentleman off of it...the prototype Notre Dame footbal player. I am sure that his son Brian has been instilled with the same virtues, toughness, and athleticism. Time will definitively prove that this is a great day for the Irish. I am glad CW and staff finally figured out that this kid belongs at ND, because he's wanted to be a Domer his entire life. Unlike Trattou who did not want to join the family, this kid has always been in the family, and he will kick a lot of ass over the next 4 years. Mark my words. |
Voice, |

While rivals had previously called Smith an ND commit I don't believe it till I hear it from the player's mouth. Well here it is from The Kansas City Star. |
Nothing new here, but SI is spreading the word on our defensive recruiting woes |
Matt: More on the offer CW made to Posluszny here: http://www.timesonline.com/site/...id=478568&

As a lifelong Steeler fan, I was dreading Brady as a Raider (old rivalries die hard), but it would be just as bad for me to see him in a Browns uni (eternal rivalries never die). Drew Cary sucks! Hope Tampa wins the coin flip or someone else moves up to select BQ. He will be special for many years to come. Jamocha, not so much. |
Just to add more to the speculation about Brady to the Browns [re 06 Grad & WeS] We believe that your points are valid about playing for homestate team but it is also interesting to note that now Troy Smith is making a concerted effort to force publicity on the Browns about picking him in the draft...and IF our Brady did indeed contact the Browns, we think the difference in the way those 2 young men went about it...one through the media with a great deal of splash & the other through personal contact...shows that our Brady has CLASS & MEDIA SAVY...both traits valued at the NFL level! Also, does anyone else think that Brady's knee "problem" was really overblown or a fake by his agent to keep him out of the Senior Bowl and protect him from any negative repercussions - physical & publicity-wise? Thoughts??? |
The way Brady got knocked around in the Sugar Bowl I wouldn't be surprised if he did tweak his knee a bit. |
Chris: |

Irish 2, |
Two things... |
...and for a record THIRD straight post, here is the nastiness I speak of. Keep bringin' em in Charlie! |
Eddie and Brad: Thanks for the back up. I had heard it through the Irish Insights blog but was hoping there'd be some back up here with further elaboration. |
Thanks Eddie for the link to KC newspaper article on Brian Smith's commitment. A few observations: |
I'd really like to believe that Brady's injury was real, but it just seems too coincidental (to clarify, I'm sure he has some little tweak or something, but nothing that would have medically kept him out of a game). Nearly every agent of every top 10 draft pick will advise their client to avoid every possible physical workout they can except for one. Sure, Brady COULD gain a bit by showing off his skill set and contrasting it to Smith and Leak, but if he's just a little bit off, all he's going to do is get knocked. I'd be surprised if he does any of the workouts at the combine either, so he's probably not saving his knee for that. I can't really say I blame him. Smith and Leak can't really physically do anything to move ahead of him in the draft, so why should he risk millions that are already "in the bank"? |
Re Brady's knee: I believe it was "tweaked" on his long run vs. USC. Photos show he was wearing a brace on the left knee in the Sugar Bowl. |
Voice, give Ferentz a break. The guy takes an incredible amount of crap here in Iowa, despite being one of the winningest coaches in Iowa history. Having a 4 star linebacker sniped out from under you by ND is going to make you a little unhappy. |
There have been some rumors here in Philly about the Eagles trading McNabe to Detroit for the second pick to get Brady. Most of it is talk radio speculation thus far but with Reid and Weis being friends there could be some "truth" behind it. With Garcia likely to take the helm for a year, if this rumor is true, it may not be a bad spot for Brady. |
Yes, Proto, you are right. |
the eagles discussion really doesnt make too much sense. The Lions would essentially be trading Brady for McNabb, which certainly does not make sense for a team that is not yet ready to win next season, or the season after (Lions). Although I do think that Garcia could hold it down for a year before Brady would be ready, I dont see the Lions doing that. I am sure the eagles would be interested if offered to them... |

Speaking as a Browns/Irish fan: I hope Quinn does NOT end up in Cleveland. I don't think the Browns will ever figure out how to establish a decent O-line & every QB they get is put through a meat-grinder. Brady has had to run for his life too much in his career. |
Quinn is going to appear today on Rome is Burning at 430ET. Maybe he will shed some more light on his injury/draft pick status... |
