Allen is quoted as saying something to the effect that he and Clausen will probably have better college careers than the Leinart-Bush duo.

That should send expectations/hype through the roof, if they already haven't.

He didn't say they will probably have a better career. He said it would be great if they had a similar career, but he also jokingly said they'd also want to do a bit better.

''They had an article up here about us being the next Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart,'' said Allen, who passed on national champion Florida. ``We kind of laughed about that, you know, wouldn't it be great if we could come up here and have an impact like those two did?

``That's our plan, but probably to be even a little better than that.''

Notre Dame just landed B.Smith linebacker from Kansas who previously committed to Iowa and the Kicker, Walker, who had previously committed to Louisville. Cha.

Regarding Walker's comment, it's interesting how most people have kind of written off Sharpley as possibly being the starter next season. I, personally, agree with Pat. You can't bring in someone like Clausen and not give him the ball.

Gabe, I'm not suggesting that Clausen will win the starting job. I'm just saying that I bet he'll participate in spring practice rather than sit it out. He apparently played with the issue during his senior year so I'd expect him to keep playing with it through the spring and then address if it needs surgery or not.

Injury or not, I'd be a bit surprised if Clausen won the starting job. Not for any concrete reasons. Just my guess.

Sorry, I misunderstood your comment. I know I'm getting way ahead of ourselves, but could you envision a scenerio where Clausen would not start until his Jr. or Sr. year?

Maybe if he decommits and goes to USC.

Imagine the same voice inflection that Jim Mora, Sr. used when he said "Playoffs? Playoffs?..."

"Reggie Bush? Reggie Bush? I just hope Allen is as good in the tandem as Marc Tyler was with Clausen in high school. Reggie Bush?"

Dammitt I wish that Tyler was coming to ND. And Gallipo. And Griffen.

indy-

It's hard to decommit when the guy's already attending classes.

kmf,

Ask Greg Olsen about that.

Why in the world would any college football fans want a freshman quarterback to start their freshman year? Has a freshman qb ever won an NC? It is almost non-existent for a freshman at any position to have much, if any impact on a team. The only one I can think of that was a real star on his team was Clarett and maybe Adrian Peterson at OK. They are generally too small and don't understand the systems well enough after only one year. I would much rather see Sharpley play this year than watch Clausen run for his life. Putting a freshman in at QB is just asking him to take a beating.

"Has a (college) freshman qb ever won a NC?"

Has Clausen ever been a college freshman?

JK, I love the rediculous hype around this kid.

I too love the Clausen hype...I mean this kid has NEVER lost a game, right?

Regarding freshman QBs and national titles...Tim Tebow took some snaps as a freshman and got a ring this year. Obviously, he wasn't the starter...Michael Vick lost in the national title game as a freshman...I can't think of too many.

I believe Greg Olsen transferred the day before classes started.

I just want to see our BEST QB play, freshman or not.

ah, the offseason.

Welcome aboard Mr. Walker.
I bet you're glad you don't have to wear that god awful color of a uniform anymore.

Please, if you can just kick it to the goal line and not out of bounds.

haha i agree indy, the offseason conversation has begun... my predicition is either jones or frazer will get it for 2007 and will do reasonably well, but in somewhat Holiday style will be eventually fan-pressured out for clausen, though who knows when.

I'm personally excited about seeing Demetrius Jones. Great accuracy and arm strength, with good speed and pocket presence. For that matter I remember seeing Frazer in the AAA game and he looked pretty damn good. should be an exciting spring
