So what are the Huskies concurrently paying Ty? Add that to what ND is still paying him and Tyrone is probably the highest paid football coach in America on any level. Think how much custom made clothing and golf trips that all that cabbage can buy. I hope he still has some money left after Washington dumps him, because he won't ever be a head coach again. What a friggin' impostor.

It would seem that Ty might be the best college coach, but he may just be the smartest.

Put a "not" between "the" and "best".

haha. hilarious link there at the end, Jay.

I would also expect that part of Weis' contract re-negotiations included a good sum of money to go directly to Hanna & Friends

According to the database, MSU coach John Smith got more than Lloyd Carr. If those figures are correct then Lloyd needs to renegotiate. Both Eastern and Western Michigan had coaches getting $154,000 and were almost the lowest of all.

That just makes me wince. For so many reasons . . .

Why must I be continually subjected to the ghost of ND's miserable recent past? Couldn't he just change his name and hide like he was in the witness protection program or something?

Aren't these stories dealing with his initial contract and not his renegotiated one? They seem to be missing the point.

So we're paying Ty a gagillion bucks a year NOT to be the coach at Notre Dame. I think it's money well spent.

Excellent point, dbldomer7375.

Willingham has the onions to submit an expense reimbursement for $64 three years after he ceased to be the coach? Isn't that just petty?

I heard that the $64 was for dry-cleaning of Ty's trousers when Fasano jumped clean over his safety on the opening play of the ND/Washington game.

Shows what putting in 14 hrs 6 days a week can do for your portfolio.

Hey, you locals. Is Charlie showing up on TV pushing Ford Torinos or Nike shoes?

If he could pull that waist line in he'd make a fortune endorsing pills or maybe a meal plan.

lmao

$64 "expense" charge? Shameless.

I guess I don't care as much about fact that coaches are making more than college presidents these days since ND decided to open the purse strings.

Somewhat unrelated...The recruiting map hasn't changed in a while. Is it because Charlie's not traveling, or because it just hasn't been updated?

Charlie finished traveling the last week of May. He hit more high schools than the ones on the map, but we only put pins by the ones we could verify with mentions in the press.

Why did it not say in 02 contract that once a fired coach gets another good-pay job, his compensation from former job ends right away?

How does the current AD feel when he thinks about that every time now and then?

a) Lousy.
b) Not good.
c) Don't know. Just moving on.
d) Business as usual.

Best guess is c.

Tintin. I was thinking the same thing. Normally a nonbreaching party (i.e., Ty . . . but on second thought maybe this can be argued?) is entitled to recover the benefit of his contract bargain, but he also has a duty to mitigate his damages by going out and getting another job. In the absence of an express liquidated damages type buy-out clause, he typically would be entitled to recover only the difference between his ND salary and his UW salary for the duration of his ND contract, assuming of course that he is now earning less at UW. As it turns out, we now have a coach working the same 8-hour days (I know, I know, again arguable), yet effectively getting paid twice. I assume, since we offered Ty this type of buy-out in his contract, that every college football coach in the country gets the same deal. Answer D -- business as usual.

Hey, Brad...we can always do what Orson does over at EDSBS - use the phrase [NAME REDACTED] whenever referring to Willingham. It seems to work pretty good for them.

Pat, how about it?

I found it more interesting that the second-highest paid employee is the private capital manager. What a sweet gig.

Regarding why [NAME REDACTED] is still being paid at all since he has his sweet gig at UW --> he is almost certainly NOT being paid under the terms of his original contract, but rather under the terms of a settlement agreement. In the back of everyone's mind as they shook hands on the settlement agreement was the specter of [NAME REDACTED] filing a race discrimination lawsuit. Anyone remember how Joe Max Moore left? It's better this way, if I can just fight through the nausea.

If [NAME REDACTED] is the highest-paid football coach, imagine how sky-high he is on the list of golf coaches.

I'm pretty sure the investment managers are paid by performance. Which in this case, 2006 was a good year for ND.

Nice to see the "name redacted" moniker being used when refering to [NAME REDACTED]. Orson Swindle can't be the only one allowed to have fun on the internets.

Regarding Weis's contract, and its surprising thrift, I just thought I'd through a few more thoughts out there:

1. Weis's house might be paid for by the university, as well as his cars.

2. If you all remember the NFL rumors that first year, it might have been ND's specific design to structure Weis's contract so that they wouldn't pay him all that much until he made it through the NFL hiring season. In that way, they could be sure that Weis wasn't just pulling a Mariuchi, and using college coaching to jump back into the pros, but at the same time, they could promise Weis that if were still at ND in say, March, he would get a fat bonus. Of course, this all became moot when Weis and ND renegotiated during the season.

Nevermind - I just noticed that the filing references the fiscal year of 05-06, so my musings are poop.
