No love for the West Coast? What about our three commits from CA and the D lineman prospect in OR?

Brandon Newman (PRP HS - KY) is a defensive stud. I went to college with his HS coach in KY - Campbellsville. Not sure of his interest, but I saw that Corwin is visiting him twice in one month. He is definitely the best player out of KY.

Cool! I just stumbled across "My Maps" myself. I'm using it to plot potential college visits for my high school daughter. Do the colors of your pins have any significance? How did you set the color (yellow or blue) and how did you get the nifty "flag" pin for Notre Dame?

EFH4ND - It's only May 12th. Still plenty of time for Charlie to visit the West Coast. And keep in mind that we're only noting where Charlie has visited. The assistants are on the road too making their own stops. I'm pretty sure at least Coach Polian has made the trek out to California.

Look at the number of defensive recruits compared to offense.

What's that blue pushpin doing way up at the north pole? Wait... a fat jolly man that travels all over the world to see if kids have been naughty or nice...I think I'm on to something here.

Steinbeck. Nice.

Please! Cretin-Derham Hall is in SAINT PAUL, not Minneapolis. These things matter up here.

Please Paul, gimme a break. These guys @ BGS spend hours putting the map together for our benefit and you're gonna nitpick 'em to death?

Great Work - would love to see a map of where the other coaches are hitting. I don't know off hand which coach handles which region. Thanks for this map though.

Where the pushpin for where Charlie stopped by Gainsville to dickslap Mr. I-have-a-national-championship-but-only-have- convinced-one-kid-to-come-to-my-school FUCUM.

Nice touch, you guys did a great job.

maxwell - This is from a google link to one of the subscription sites regarding Brandon Newman:

“Notre Dame is the place to beat, if anyone can,” said Newman, who’s eyeing a career in broadcasting after football.

Charly was in Altoona, PA. on Wednesday to meet the coach about A.J. Alexander, Altoona.

I concur with BBM on how great it would be to see a similar map for the recruiting travels of the other ND coaches; but that probably a lot of work. BUT if it could be done for the travel of the new legend Corwin Brown, that would go a long long way towards fufilling that desire.
Peace
John

Looks like East Carolina's Skip Holtz has an assistant coach on his staff who is being prosecuted for submitting $11,000 worth of bogus receipts from his recruiting roadwork. Hard to believe that they wouldn't keep it quiet and just handle it in-house rather than invite the negative publicity of having the guy arrested, etc.

http://www.sportsline.com/colleg.../story/ 10172387

Earl, the blue pins are recruits, the yellow ones commits, and the turquoise ones are other things, like combines or conventions.

AJ Alexander is not from Alliquippa, but from Altoona. You need to fix that one, overall a great mapping feature.

This isn't the place to say it, but I don't know where else to.
I was surfin' around Irish Eyes/Scouts and came across draft pages for the Irish players that were in the draft. On Quinn's, under "Negatives" was written: "Leadership abilities in question." What the hell? Are you kidding? I don't even see how anyone can question his leadership ablilities. During the season after a late comeback victory, one of the lineman (I think it was either Morton or Sullivan) said that in end of the game situations like that, they have so much trust in Quinn he will do whatever Quinn says because he believes that will give the team the best chance to win. That shows leadership right there.
Now, I understand that some people will say these kinds of things because they dilike ND, Quinn, a coach, whatever. I just don't understand how someone can justify Quinn lacking in leadership abilities when that was one of the his strongest assests over his four year tenure as Irish QB. Here's to a great career with the Browns.

GO IRISH

Jon - have to agree there. Brady may not be the most accurate (on the other hand, maybe he is) but you start questioning where the sun will rise before you question the kid's leadership abilities. Guaranteed, you won't find a single USC fan ever questioning that, so tata to whoever the jerks were who posted such tripe.

Go Irish

Charlie visited 5'11 Safety Jacques Malogoff on Wed. He's from Columbus, OH.

When's Charlie gonna make a trip down here to Louisiana?

This is a listing of the verbal commits for 2008. ND is # 4 in quantity now.
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/r...3fseason% 3d2008

Jon--

A lot of people want to focus on the "big losses" ND had the last two years, and say that Brady couldn't get it done in the big game, and therefore must not be a good leader. We Domers know that even Patton himself couldn't have lead armored divisions with no fuel, and that's what our line, our defense, etc. were like. No one wants to do any analysis besides the win/loss column, because that would be scarily like "work". However, we know that MSU 05, USC 05, MSU 06, and UCLA 06 show Brady's capable of taking a team and digging it out of a hole, even if the first two didn't end up as wins. 2 years ago all anyone wanted to talk about was how little "talent" ND had; now, notice how it gets glossed over when someone talks about our losses to USC, Michigan, and LSU? Judging by the draft, LSU was the most talented team in the nation, by far (see CNNSI.com). Jamarcus Russell didn't even need to play (see 06 Peach Bowl vs. Miami, where their backup helped blow the 'Canes out); yet somehow it all comes down to a "QB contest" and since Brady "lost", he must be the worse of the two QB's. Stupid.

Brady wins a Super Bowl in the next 4 years, and Jamarcus is 3rd string somewhere.

You guys better hope 8-4/7-5 is good for recruiting.

I'm excited about how good recruiting is going this year, but it isn't scratching my itch. Other than setting aside some cash to throw at e-bay in the fall, I find myself spending more time wondering how hard I'd need to hit myself in the head to wake up in late august.

Fixed Bill, thanks.

Korea Blue, nice picture. It certainly sends a message to the players and coaches that they will need to "Step it up" to avoid such a thrashing again.

I will be the first to admit that 2007 is going to be a tough year, as there are a lot of unanswered questions.

However, despite the potential for a 8-4/7-5 record hurting our recruiting, feel free to take a look at our 12 Junior-year commits. If I am not mistaken, at least 6 of them also have offers from Michigan (the team represented in your fine picture).

Since we are taking all of those good players that guys like Brian at mgoblog originally considered "good picks", maybe things are starting to shift in favor of the Irish.

Regardless, enjoy your summertime, as we have only 4 months to go until we avenge the dreadful BEATDOWN inflicted upon our team last September.

Michigan sucks and Ann Arbor is a whore.

Eddie,

Thanks for the link on Newman. Go Irish!

inappropriate.

Go Navy!

Go Appalachian St.

Do we go to other team blog sites and make idiots of ourselves or is this just reserved for Ohio St and Michigan fans? I was born and raised in Ohio and now live in Michigan and a bigger bunch of idiots do not exist anywhere else I believe.

Doug – Your question is the funniest I’ve read on BGS in quite a while. I’ve always considered the OSU and UM fans pretty much idiot savants’, but then I do have to give them credit for figuring out how to turn on a computer and somehow stumble across BGS. I sat through the home and home series with ND and OSU back in the 90’s. The OSU fans were obnoxious in Columbus as the two or three nuts that occasionally get on BGS.

That list of commits shows Florida with only one. Does Urban Meyer even recruit in the offseason? Or does he just wait until all the good recruits are obvious because of their other offers and have verbally comitted elsewhere before he swoops in and cherry picks the ones he wants?

I've always just thought it was weird when people posted anti-ND stuff on here. If it weren't for the list of blogs on the BGS sidebar, I wouldn't even be able to name a blog for another team.

We definitely need to turn one of those blue WR pins into a yellow one.

Are the Irish still pursuing Sam McGuffie?

Opposite Florida's ONE is Texas's NINETEEN. Craziest thing is, they haven't had anyone commit since April 23, and only one since April 1. This means they had 18 commits at the beginning of April. That's just outrageous.

They also had 15 in February alone.

It'd be interesting to see how all those numbers (commits) average out, in terms of their nebulous "star" (NPI) grades. Texas probably stays near or at the top, but we are probably fine, too. Snap shot seems to indicate a big boost to our fortune "on the trail" gets filed under 'CB.'

Go Irish

How about that, Kyle Long chose to play baseball at FSU over football. Didn't think he'd end up Irish, but really didn't see that one coming. Was anyone else surprised by this decision?

Pat - Need to change those blue flags for Goodman and Golic to yellow.

done!

How many of those Texas verbals actually live in Texas? The Longhorns routinely fill out their recruit classes very quickly (usually before the recruits finish their Junior year), and nearly 90% of them are instate.

And of course, given their recent level of consistency and sucess, their method seems to work pretty well. Mack Brown probably has one of the easiest recruiting jobs in the country, considering that Texas essentially recruits for itself.

In a nutshell, if you live in Texas and play football, you are most likely going to either Texas, A&M, or Tech. It's like a birth-right.

Question: How many of those Texas verbals actually live in Texas?

Answer: All but one and he's from Colorado so likely has some Texas connection somewhere.

http://texas.rivals.com/commitlist.asp

Nolan Brewster (UT commit from CO) is the son of the former Longhorn assistant who just accepted the head coaching job at U. of Minnesota, I believe.

It would be nice to see Charlie have another good year in Jersey. Forst, Hill, Beal, Williams are all big time players.
Oh by the way, NAH, who follows recruiting.

I am pretty sure he visited the DT Forston out of South Florida

I'm surprised CW is still going after Terrelle Pryor. With Crist having committed I don't see us having any chance with him as I don't think he wants to be a wideout. My guess is tOSU or Penn State.

It never hurts Eddie. Also, many coaches use these visits to size up potential junior targets as well and keep up good lines of communication with high school coaches.

Random thoughts:

Along with what Pat said, it doesn't hurt when he's in the neighborhood already. Its not like anything bad would come from him at least venturing to see if he'd be fine with a different position in college.

As for Kyle Long, he said in some of his interviews that he always felt at home on the diamond rather than the gridiron. After seeing Samardzija go the route he did, Long's decision didn't really shock me.

Another heads up: Weis is out in California today, having done a spot on the Jim Rome show. Wouldn't be surprised if he visited the California commits today as well.

CW was out at Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, CA today (5/17) to see Joe Fauria.

Thanks JN.

Apparently a google map of the 2004 ND recruiting efforts has been located by the folks over at Classic Ground. Really shows the difference between CW and a certain former head coach.

http://classicground.blogspot.co...uiting- map.html

From Scott Wolf's Inside USC, CW and a number of other coaches at Stanford today to watch 100 or so recruits work out.

http://www.insidesocal.com/usc/ a...r_saturday.html

Brown and Weis are HOT! HOT! HOT!

That's for Rob.

Feldman noticed your map:

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/ ...02=stateChanged

I noticed that too Adam. A few other sites have picked up on it, most with the usual "I can see Charlie from here" joke.

Time to change Brandon Newman to yellow! The big NT committed yesterday. See Domer Domain or Irish Envy for more info.

A.J. Alexander of Altoona, PA. commited to Florida State on Saturday 5/26/07.
