I swear to God, the only thing I hate more than Boston College and losing to Michigan State is Purdue fans.

Without a doubt, the rudest fans I have ever encountered. Two years ago I had a guy in his 40s drop multiple F-bombs on me just for wearing an ND shirt...in front of his three children!

God I hope we can find some way to show up and make this a game.

I just ran some quick numbers, and last year through four cupcake games (IN State, Miami-OH, Ball State, and Minny) Painter had 1140 yards and a comp. % of 64%, but 8 TD's and 5 INT's. So yes, you're right that there's definitely been an improvement there, and it can't just be attributed to the quality of the opponents he's played.

CB was is a secondary coach by trade so this week will be his true test to date. While last week did show some improvement and the coaching staff said they took it hard, I still think that this team will lose on Saturday. I think they are emotionally drained from losing 4 stragith weeks and losing three teammates, even if two of them were buried on the depth chart. These are college kids and three of their friends are gone now. That affects people. Go Irish and Blue and gold through and through, but Tiller is a good Offensive mind and we have 4 weeks of film of allowing 30+ pts and it is probably going to be rough.

The OL needs to show up. Eat the clock, take the crowd out of it and if Zibby is going to show up, now would be a good time.

Painter certainly showed talent last year and it's not surprising that he has improved. Statisticaly, ND is 5th in the nation against the pass at 114 yds per game. OK, I understand why, we stink against the run and teams haven't thrown much in the 2nd half. But, be fair, don't you think we are a little better than last year against the pass? Don't you think Ga Tech and Penn State struggled in the first half? True, ND hasn't seen a QB as good as Painter, but honestly, has Purdue played a defense like ND? Certainly not Minnesota. ND needs Brian Smith and Kerry Neal to start. They need their special teams to contain kick returns. Hughes and Aldridge and Allen will get yards and look for better pass protection as the line continues to accrue experience. Walls and Zibby and Bruton should be licking their chops. I think ND is ready for a full game and their first win. That is a learning process also.

Unfortunately, I think it's just a case of not being tested, as opposed to Pass-D is really good, so people don't pass. Walls and Bruton are upgrades but Zibby is Zibby.

Quote me for truth and all that but your Pass D gave 3 TDs to Ryan Mallett, a true freshman.

Jay, Pat, et. al.,

Do you know if anyone tracks balls thrown away/downed as a component of completion percentage? I think it is sort of like sacks counting against rushing yards in college. Neither of them provide a very accurate view of completion %'s/rushing yards. And no, I am not just saying that because the Irish had negative rushing through the first three games.

The only QB who's looked good against ND so far is Mallett, who's got a veteran offensive line plus Mike Hart to keep defenses honest. (Notwithstanding that Hoyer threw four TDs, he barely completed 50% of his passes.)

On the one hand, you can say that Bennett, Morelli, and Hoyer aren't particularly good QBs. On the other hand, you can recall that last year, we even made bad QBs look good.

Jones is now at Cincinnati.

A question: When classes are not in session (fall break) ND can practice more than 20 hours a week. Does this mean that all these schools that have not started classes or just recently started classes (OSU and I assume Cinci) have had all this time of no 20 hour restrictions? Not that I am advocating ND switch to quarters, just curious about the rules.

I predict we get completely $HIT-HAMMERED by Purdue and they run up the score. It will be UGLY.

And since I will be at the game, I predict some white trash PU fan (75-80% of the entire fanbase) will throw a beer at me (Probably PBR) since I will be wearing my Mark Edwards, Justin Tuck, Asaph Schwapp, jersey.

Notre Shame blows. HAHAAHA.

^ We blow this year. Its allowed when you are the greatest team in college football history. We get off years. Odds are your team thrives on mediocrity. Or just ghetto thug players. Just a guess.

what an embarassment. 22 pt underdogs. charlie better treat this game like the "indiana bowl"

if we get physical with purdue and don't tire out like we did against the spartans (who, like most big 10 teams, had far more stamina than us), we may have an outside ghost prayer of a chance here...

"While it's true 4-0 Purdue hasn't really played anyone yet this year ..."

Those Boilermakers are finally learning one of the big keys: consistency! This year's PU squad won't be playing anyone till at least October.

Go Irish

I heard Chris Stewart left the team today...not that we'll miss him, but wow another defection...another 4 star in the wind...

More importantly to the issue at hand though is Purdue COULD...yes COULD...Could be the ideal coming out party for Kerry Neal! Man did he look fast last week - on obvious passing downs he was getting to the 7 step drop point at the same time as the QB! Been a while since we've seen that at ND. Could be fun.

My advice is take the $100 you normally would bet on a 22.5 point underdog Irish and bet them straight up- it could turn into $500 on Sat.

Or you could lose it and break your TV watching us get routed again...but it COULD happen...and at some point this year I think it will...

chris stewart is gone

Weis has lost this team and Purdon't will beat us by 50, minimum.

As a Purdue fan and a Notre Dame fan, I am very interested to see how this game will shake out. If Notre Dame continues to struggle on the edge, they could be in for a long day. However, given Purdue’s relatively soft defense, ND should have the opportunity to string some strong drives together, and hopefully gain some offensive momentum.

And for the record, I have never thrown a beer at anyone nor have I ever cussed out any opposing fans. ;-)

Let’s hope this is a game into the 4th quarter.

Dave

Perhaps the 0-4 start has made me a grouchy pessimist, but I keep having images of Orton's 385 yard, 4 TD performance from 2004 flashing through my head (including that 97-yard debacle to Stubblefield). And that was in South Bend. If there's any game in which we need to be able to run the ball consistently and sustain long drives, it's this one (and then USC, BC, but first, this one).

What are the odds Purdue still loses 4-5 games and ends up 3rd or 4th (at best) in the Big 10ish?

Its a shame that ND is going to make it so easy for ND haters this year. Rest assured, I will focus on things like:

51 Wins for ND
25 Wins for Purdue
& 2 ties

That's a 66.7% historical win percentage for ND when playing Purwho.

Oh and by the way, ND has outscored Purwho 1869 to 1246. That breaks down into on average ND beats Purwho 24 - 16, 66.7% of the time.

Laugh it up furball.

C'mon guys, a few more positive vibes. We have an excellent chance this week. The first weak D we have seen, plus a breakthrough running the ball. WE will win if JC truly generates 10 points himself, which of course is only 2 drives. The running game will produce 14 and special teams or D 7. Thus,ND31 P 21.
I gotta be right one of these weeks

I like the Clausen commitment....but please GOD don't allow his hair to be the same. It instilled instant hate for him in me.

"(they've beat up on 1-3 Toledo, 1AA Eastern Illinois, 1-3 Central Michigan, and 1-3 Minnesota)"

I really hate to read that when I know ND is 0-4. :(
