Go Irish! My Tarheel daughter has already called and she hardly pays any attention to sports!

Holy Toledo! They just beat the skunkbears.

And Texas just took a 10-pt lead over Oklahoma with 4:00 to play. Wow.

yay Toledo. what goes around comes around.

man i am glad that I have att Uverse with the U400 package....otherwise I wouldnt get this game...being in california

They still have OSU, PSU, and MSU. They are probably looking at 7-9 losses this year.

anybody have an online stream of the game?

And... another #1 goes down.

as much as i hate michigan...i def want them to do well the rest of the season...so we look better

Them being 3-9 vs 5-7 isn't going to help us much. I hate them enough that every loss is sweet, and it also helps us move closer to the #1 AWP.

We don't need to look better. They'll put us in a BCS game and we'd be taken apart again.

GO TOLEDO! Welcome to hell Michigan

Herbie picked Notre Dame! Huzzah!

COME ON! This stupid Oklahoma game is over! SWITCH COVERAGE

I'm not a big fan of Paul McGuire.

Shut up Musburger! Colt McCoys cousin DID NOT die in Iraq! He died of a brain hemorage after a car accident! Didn't he watch his own pre-game?

anyone else in Indy? Espn is blacked out! ND is supposed to be on espn here

Change. The. Channel.

ESPN 360 and the BGS comment section!
I'm ready!

Go Irish!

don't care about Colt McCoy! GOOO

We've got ND on ESPN here in Denver. They bumped OSU/Purdue. Yippee!!!

7 minutes gone. Still waiting to switch over to ND here in Baltimore. Come oooooon

Yay we do to in Oregon!

Finally! Now lets go Irish!

nice , nd on directv in la toooo

sweet

Free Golden Tate! Go baby go.

I have OSU on ABC and ESPN! WTF?!! This is bullshit!

Now they are bringing pressure. The 3 man rush isn't working.

ABC bumped tOSU/Perduechicken in Seattle too!... Goooooo Irish! Beeeeeat Tarheels!

We just need to stay patient with the short passes. And put the ball in the end zone.

Glad TX won but OK's fake reverse and dump to the RB was a sweet play we should use.

Hope Walker is getting warmed up.

Jesus Christ Clausen! Jesus!

TATE!

YEAAAAAAAAY

game still isn't on in Pittsburgh. OSU on two stations.

That was lucky.

having to listen on phone with parents in South Bend. Come on ESPN!

same here in Detroit, OSU-Purdue on both ESPN and ABC, WTF???

got it on ABC in houston

tOSU and Purdon't is going to be one horrifically $hitty game.

Tale of the Tates?

TD Tate on the fade.

I could go for a triple steak burrito right now...

Anyone else have a severe echo on their broadcast?

Yes, I do (echo). I thought that was my stereo system freaking out.

We just lost the game on ESPN in OR.

lost it houston too

Lost the game in CA

Bernie P, you still getting the game? I can't find it on any channel.

lost in la tooo

back to espn360

San Antonio just got the game too. (I'm in Chicago, but my friends are so excited!) Beautiful first drive for the Irish!

CRAP!! In Wichita, we just lost our Irish and have the damn USC/ASU (a probable rout) or yuck Purdue/tOSU.

WTF is going on with the coverage for you guys?

That was a beautiful throw by Jimmy.

no game in cleveland suburbs... my dish network is blacking out espn. WTF!?!?

On in Pittsburgh!

finally!

Here in LA we have it on ESPN 360 only. Better than nothing.

What's happening??

The game just came on regular ESPN in Detroit, but still nothing on ESPNHD. This is a clusterfuck of epic proportions.

come on Crum! thats all you!

ESPN just had an announcement that they would be going to OSU...

Back to OSU/Purdue in Seattle too... ESPN's coverage is almost as volatile as the stock market.

NC punting...we lead 7-0 on Walkers perfect PAT

UNC punted.

DenverIrish I lost the game here in Denver. I'm now watching it on ESPN gameplan. I hate them!

Time to go to the 20" hi def desktop screen.

uh oh espn 360 is way behind live coverage

What's the penalty for?

Check ESPN's extra channels, they just put ND on ESPNa1 here in Indy, it wasn't there a couple minutes ago.

I hate ABC and all it stands for. Got the game on the radio

god. the echo is back

we may have to capitalize when we say jc if he keeps improving

JC makes "good decisions"

whew... channel 145 for anyone with dish in ohio

Finally on in Indy on Directv 210a

FLOYD!!

FLOYD 32 yards with jc on endzone...love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! incredible!~

LMAO on the JC comments. Does anyone know what channel the game is on on Comcast?

Have we been moving it like this all day?

In northern Michigan, we have OSU-PUR on both channels and my provider does't offer ESPN 360. Are there any other live online feeds?

I'm forgiving weis (not forgetting though)

Can anyone help a Comcast subscriber with what channel the game might be on?

Clausen is our leading rusher

NDPeter---jc is near perfect

wow that sucked. massive sack

I think I jinxed it...jc sacked

Not any more.

http://www.justin.tv/alban1a

How is that guy so good at blocking punts? He damn near got us.

Thanks, Peter! It's choppy, but it's better than nothing.

Floyd has 2 recepts for 41 yds.

I hope ND never punts again today. Apparently the Tar Heel block rush is unstoppable.

Peter, I just sent that link on to some other blacked out folks - thanks!

Claussen all right, but the sideline reporter is smoking!
I would like to see a downpour followed by a cold wind before the next sideline update.

NC has some scary athletes

I am in northeast PA and can't get the game on TV. I live among a huge Irish population and they are freaking out right now.

That stream just died for me

TATE (NC Tate) is limping

espn 360 just crapped out, ESPN IS THE WORST... a bloody coup is necessary

Now NC Tate is going to locker room

Arguably the most popular team in the country and ABC/ESPN cannot see fit to carry the game. Dummies.

If you have access to ESPN gameplan and $22, you can watch the game.

Oh crap....

I blame Mark May and John Saunders

crappy tackling by ND...NC marching

TX over OK...hehehehe

NC on 20 yd line...our red zone defense has had their moments this year..here's hoping for one now

Holding UNC.

Keep up the holding NC.

good d by Lambert! He turned to the ball!!!

good defense by Lambert...he smothered receiver in endzone

Cooter Arnold?!

yes ND d steps up!

UNC has a player named Cooter...

YEAH! Big stop for the defense!

Nice. Their kicked is weak, so this call will be interesting.

Lambert!!!!

is Cooter 1st or last name?

FG UNC

They just called our kicking game a little shaky. Ha.

UNC field goal - 41 yards

Cooter is the first name. Cooter Arnold.

Planet: first name

or maybe it's just Cooter (like Prince)

Brandon TATE out for the game

I hope he plays again in another game...NOT TODAY!

a run play by Allen? I'll take 2nd and 6

AA 5 yard run

Unfreaking believeable. My cable provider in Houston does not offer Gameday, and those dips*** at ABC/ESPN are showing Purwho.

We established pass game so we can run?

SPECIAL THANKS TO YOU WHO HAVE THE GAME AND ARE TAKING THE TIME TO SEND OUT NOTES.

Aldridge and Schwapp in...first down

3rd and 1....yes!!!!!!!!!! 1st down

Nice, first down Allen.

This is great. I got video on ESPN 360 but is is about 4 plays behind the radio

Allen 15 yds

4 runs in a row! Allen looks strong

great run Allen!

one minute or so delay on 360.

we were at the 12, so looked like we were trying to run out of the "hole". 16 yrd by AA (he just "outstanding" and "OL" in the same sentence)

Offsides UNC.

he just called JC Casey Clausen....

that's Jimmy Claussen, not Casey Claussen (announcer dude)

Radio is saying it is hot there and the NC defense is soaked already.

I didn't know Casey Clausen was our QB!

They just called him Casey Clausen. I think he already has more TDs than his brother did.

15 yd Allen run again.

AA runs pretty well so far

1st and 5 and Allen explodes...weird strategy but Ill take it

commercial break. (for those of you who can't see ;-)

What's with UNC jumping offsides

Bill, it does look warm there - I don't know conditions, but we're definitely working the UNC defense

Charlie should always wear dark colors.

Obviously UNC is jumping offsides cause of Casey Clausens cadence

He needs the vertical stripes for the slimming effect.

Allen is playing like an animal

allen 10 yd dump pass

out of bounds?

Floyd you are a SUPER HUMAN!

Floyd--great catch

2nd and 10 at UNC 30. We just missed a deep pass where Floyd was out of bounds.

I'll bet ESPN 360 sets a record with this. If you look at ESPN's map - 3/4 of the country is getting PSU-OSU.

WHY?

I have to keep reminding myself Floyd is a freshmen. I can't believe we get 3 more years!

jc 10-16 w/ 1 TD

Allen - 2 yard run

This is the second time today the announcers have used words like "impressive" and "outstanding" to refer to the OL.

UH OH, FG try. Go get the beer

We saw the game last Sat. Floyd is remarkable.

4th and 3...to Walker or not to Walker

Jesus....please don't miss....

Hold you breath. Walker from 41.

HEY!

walker is kicking ... oh lord

Short pass to Grimes; not enough for 1st down. Walker to kick FG....GOOD!!!!!!!!

Walker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woo hoo! ugly but it worked! 10-3

But they used "Deplorable" to describe the kicking game and then he hits one

Hopefully that will give him the confidence to keep it going! Yea Brandon!!

Walker should retire now that he's up

We made a field goal? good for walker

2 for 8 OH! OHHHH!

He is not up. That is only 2 of 8

I read where Nick Setta advised the coaching staff to put Walker in...a success could turn Walker around.

if we win by 3 Walker is the hero

Time for defense to step up

I hope we win by more than three, but that would be neat.

ko - UNC 1st and 10 own 25

abc..."almost broke a tackle"...give me a break

yes it would, good to see his team rally around him after he made it

Can't even get 360 here through Comcast. I don't want to guess what my blood pressure is right now! Anyone else with internet feeds? The first one died.

Planeteire, I thought of that too. Pull a Constanza and end on a high note. "I'm out!"

Nick Setta also said that if the bad kicks are going to the side, it is the holder's problem. I don't know. We need him to succeed.

Ball State is the answer.

I'm getting the game in different time frames - - by more than a minute - on laptop and desktop - same router. Weird.

Denver, I'm with you. Someones's head needs to roll over this crap.

thanks be to God

UNC time out

UNC first down at O35.

time out NC ball all you pic deprived fans

That O is own not opponent's, sorry.

I called ESPN, they gave me a number for complaints, but the office is only open Monday through Friday. Lotta help there from a network that shows mostly, um, I dunno, weekend sports!!!

thx john05.

ABC is really taking a page out of the NBC playbook with these commercials.

espn hates ND

I just sent ESPN an e-mail that will make the person who reads it cry (I can dream at least)

espn also known as SECPN

ESPN = IDIOTS.

AT&T U-Verse f'n rocks! I highly recommend everyone on the planet get it.

our run defense continues to underwhelm

God. Our defense has NOT been playing well

FYI -- Skip Holtz just lost to Al Groh.

UNC:

Inc
11 yd rush - 1st

We are not blitzing as much today

Well, I had to watch ND-AF a few years back on CSTV on the computer - ESPN's broadcast quality is better.

6yd run

BIG THANKS to the board at BGS for having this site in the first place, and for those posting the play updates! Much appreciated!

21 yrd pass

Where the hell was our corner! he was 10 yards away!!

JimK I was just thinking about that...I remember a game where someone was streaming a game through their own personal computer and put out their IP address for others to grab it

our defense is bending again...NC marching...hoping for redzone stiffness

I concur Denver Irish.

20ish yd pass, soft coverage.

No gain on 1st.

we got your backs baND of Brothers

t2irish - wasnt that the same AF game?

4 yd pass

6 yd pass for 1st

another NC 1st down

1st and 10 at the ND17

2 yd run

2nd and 8

good rush defense...2nd and 8

JimK - yeah, that's what I was thinking. Couldn't remember exactly, but I'd just been remembering it when you wrote ;-)

nd timeout

ball on 15 yard line...time out

ND timeout

To show my appreciation for the people posting live updates, I will in turn post play by play of the OSU-Purwho game for those who have been deprived of it. 2nd and 10 from midfield, Pryor starts to the le . . .zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

6:46 left in 1st half

It will not help today, but we have more help coming for the secondary in coming years...if the coaching is there.

how many shots of Tiller 1 and Tiller 2?

NDfb4ever...LOL!

FWIW I just found streaming radio at http://www.nd.edu/~wvfi/. I'm in CA and suffered through the same tease as everyone else ... and out at a bar no less.

All hail Zeke

The mustaches have clearly been groomed recently. They look magnificent.

Eli Stone is a chump

I'm in Indy. Is ESPN intentionally not showing the game here or what?

a Mo Richardson sighting.

1 yd loss, richardson on the TFL

http://www.justin.tv/meat07

try this link.

got him in the backfield, Richardson

Did everyone as ABC just get braces? Or are do streams use a lisp codec?

Oh, yeah - and fuck the ABC suit that decided the best way to make up for not having an HD feed from the game was to remove it all together and give me two channels of OSU.

Justin, thanks for the radio link

thanks ndfootball4ever...any place I can a desktop pic of that

3rd and 8

UNC fumbles and recovers. 2 yd loss.

FG time.

FUMBLE!!!!!! NC got it back
4th down going for the FG

kick good. 10-6.

UNC FG - good

FG is good from 34. 10-6

10-6

NC FG ND 10- NC 6

Wow that justin.tv link totally worked for me.

Allen is due to break a kickoff return

OSU just kicked a 50 yarder. Tiller grimaced, causing his mustache to twitch. I will try to post a pic if I can get it, since I will have nothing better to do once this game goes to the half.

Good to heard Richardson's name. If there is one player I would really like to see more of, it's him.

Is the Tiller think like a wierd "Prestige" plot line?

My ABC and ESPN HD are showing Oh how I hate, but standard definition ESPN is showing the ND game for me (Minneapolis).

Allen return to 21.

USC 21, ASU 0. I'm so glad ABC is broadcasting that game for free here in Denver.

AA 3 yrd run

Allen is making me forget that we couldn't gain 1 yard on the ground last year

2nd and 7 at 24 - Grimes rec might be 1st down

Grimes 6 yds, just short of 1st

GRIMES out close to a first. 3 less than a foot

nope, 3rd and 1

Amen, Bernie! I hate the Poodle even more now that I have to see his smug kisser instead of my beloved Irish!

FIRST DOOOOOOOOWNNNNNN

aldridge for 15

Aldridge - 15 yrd run!

if Hughes ran with as much passion as Aldridge, he'd be getting 25+ carries a game.

Alridge for 15 yds on 3rd (he's on the team?)

Love for ALdridge. carryind NC players with him

ND at midfield

Allen pass for 6.

toss to Allen, 2nd down at midfield

false start

False start ND

Xavier, I owe you a beer. That link let me link to another feed that's good. Many thanks.

Iowa 45-9 over Indiana

Irish moved early.

TATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what a catch.

golden tate is the man. 1 and ten at the 9

stat: JC 12/19 144 yrds 1 TD so far

HOW THE HELL DID HE CATCH THAT!!!

TATE!!!!

Wow, Tate with an amamzing catch, should have been a pick.

That TV link from Justin is real time, 90 seconds ahead of 360. Sheesh.

Tate is special

OMG, how do you describe Tate taking away his own reception???

He simply has the best hands of any receiver ever. He owns the ball.

2 and goal, inc. pass

We're at the 8 now, incomplete on 1st.

only 3 pass rushers by NC

We have not had receivers with this level of talent...ever. Floyd and Tate are unbelievable.

they should give Tate an interception for that one

3rd and goal from 7

short toss to Allen for 2 yrds

2 yd to allen, 3rd and G from 6

Here comes the fade?

ND 06' receivers were pretty goo Daybreak

3rd and goal on 6, ND Timeout

play action pass coming up?

And we still have goodman and deion walker as frosh with a possible commit from evans

06 receivers were better in 05. And these guys are better than them.

what about Tim Brown

I think we'll be going to rudolph

YES SIR!

USC up by 3 TD's fakes a FG and does NOT get the 1st.

FLOYD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FLOOOYYYYDDDD, TD IRISH

TD FLOYD!!!!

TD FLOYD

Too easy.

Man we are blessed with great receiver talent.

Irish on 7 yd. line. 56 seconds. TD ND. FLOYD is the man.

I am not saying we haven't had amazing receivers before...but not two like this...at the same time. They are FREAKS

BGsky is ahead of the WVFI broadcast.

And we get the ball to start the second half

17-6 ND ROCKS.

What a great call and pass.

Floyd's hands are awesome.

And considering the entire corp of receivers, I agree, never better. And we have two more years to enjoy them ONLY GET BETTER, for the most part!

Daybreak...I'm beginning to believe...it'll take a whole season to make that statement though

Floyd juked his defender inside, then said, "nope, think I'll turn THIS way and catch a ball!"

Floyd TOTALLY got away with a pushoff on that one. All of the great receivers seem to....

360 JUST showed the TD.

Thanks Justin foir thatlink!

Carolina returns to close to 40; 46 secs left in half

I predict 400 for Jimmuh today..

I said it last week and I'll say it again.... imagine if we could line up a 4 wide of Grimes, Tate, Floyd, and Arrellious Benn?

Floyd was getting contact from the CB and used that to push off No one is going to call that.

And we get two more years watching Clausen dominate this offense. 16 of 23 199 yrds and two TD's.
with Christ waiting in the wings

Diesel Knight is at my house. Thats the only reason hes watching the game.

great route running by a freshmen. let's not give up a field goal here.

jc could have folded after last year...

STOP UNC.

UNC inside of the 30

UNC moving on passes; at ND 29

NC marching again...redzone d coming up

I am going to start lobbying for a rule that college players have to play 5 years before they can go to the NFL.

Pass to cooter for 2

Cooter Arnold picks up two, with the aid of at least one illegal block in the back...

nc 3 first downs 3 plays.

maybe ND can just join the NFL at that time

I hate the bend don't break defense

For the love of Christ, can we PLEASE COVER Hakeem Nix?

Clock go into warp speed. :)

I agree Bill...but at least they make stops sometimes

Defense isn't looking too good. The only positive is good play in the red zone. But outside of the red zone, we are given up major yardage!

The NC ram looks depressed

inc pass, 18 sec left

Inc. pass.

4th and 9

3rd and 9 incomplete

Frommy: red zone's where it counts. I'm generally ok with the "bend don't break" but we have to cover better.

wow, UNC player wide open but missed, FG try coming

We'd be hurting if they had an accurate QB

Cooter...hmmm...does he play the banjo?

I'm up for a shank.

42 yrd attempt coming

42 yrd attempt

Inc. pass...thank God. 4 & 9 w/13 seconds in half.

I thought their kicked sucked, WTF?

Where's PETA when you need them? I'm pretty sure it's a violation of an animal's rights to dye their horns baby-blue (tongue-in-cheek)!

good

Really don't like our defense....

It's weird to see 3 (made) field goals in a half. I think ND might have done that with Setta once.

FG made. Damn.

Denver, LOL!

I'll take 17-9...anyone know the line on this game?

Hang on. They didn't have color TV in 1975? WTF?

NOOOOOOOOO

shit.

damn, we fumbled the KO

Oh jesus....

what the hell was that?

ND just blew the reception; NC ball

NCAAFootball.com has us winning 24-21. Corso went against us again..that's good!

Daybreakboys: We're winning 17-9 and our offense is looking good.

People, we're a 4-1 team coming off the second-worst season in our hundred year history. Show some perspective.

A little off topic, but Denver, did you see their proposal that (adult) people should start drinking breast milk? Insert your own joke here. DAMMIT!

Why was West in?

the game is back on ESPN here in Bloomington, IN.

Maybe now isn't the best time to make sure everyone plays. Put AA back there where he belongs

I know. And I have perspective. I just wish our defense could force a punt a few times a game.

that was Jonas Gray, correct?

that was a freshman mistake; Jonas gray comes up in front of other receiver

I don't understand the fair catch conversation, who cares? He dropped it?

And that Ben and Jerry's should start using human breastmilk instead of cow's milk! I think I just had a seizure.

I don't want to think about what happens to the team's psyche if they score a TD here.

I was at Bloomington when Corso was coach...I sat watching Nebraska beat us 63-7 and that was his best team...Corso is an idiot (likable idiot)

What is the review for?

fact: Corso picked against ND in every one of their first 8 games in 2002 (even Stanford at home). ND started 8-0 that year.

After last year this team can bounce back from any adversity...their psyche is very solid

Did CORSO pick OU or Texas

PlanetEire, I was at IU '70-'73 but don't remember if Pont was still there or not. When were you there?

John - for ball placement

Does that count as a TO?

WTF! They are not kicking.

Onehip-Bloomington 76-80

do they have another QB? hahah

bad pass. 2 sec. left. QB is hurt. FG try

53? wow.

short!

NC missed FG!!!!!!!!!!

No GOOOOOOODDDDDD. halftime 17-9

that was way too close

FG no good from 52.

17-9 at halftime.

Jonas, you can breathe out now.

sideline babe requires mute button and zoom

I don't care, but a costly situation for NC.

Corso picked OU

Weis with the great smartass answer about the TO

Planet, my sideline reporter for the OSU game is Paul McGuire. Eat your heart out.

nc favored by 8.5

Lou's on!

McGuire requires mute too...and channel changer

Bernie, The Tavern in LoDo somehow MacGuyver'd a feed for the game for the local club game-watch. Sorry for the clutter, for everyone else!

Guys the frickin Texas Oklahoma is over. Talk about the Irish. Oh wait, it's ABC. Of course.

Guarantee Saunders will say something about how we will still lose because we are racist.

Charlie should take his wardrobe inspiration from a large and sartorially gifted sex symbol - Junior Samples.

Guys - one funny screw up - my parents live in Columbus, OH. And ND was on ABC there instead of OSU - Purdue for the first 10 minutes or so. Ha ha Suckeyes!

Do you really expect a game with the number #22 ranked team against an unranked team to be talked about over the #5 team beating the number 1 team in the nation???

Can't wait for Wash. to fire Ty after the ND game so Saunders can blame ND for that firing too

bengalsfan...you know this is ND universe...what do you expect?

maybe Ty can replace Mich coach

Yeah I do expect them to talk about the game that is currently on. Go figure.

I hear ya and I am right there with you but lets have some perspective.

NC has a very good kicker, but way to go Walker for making one today.

Great, hard shot by Crum at the end of the half. Tough but clean.

How about the rnning game the first half?

did anyone else catch the factoid that the highest ranked team in the state of Indiana is Ball State? "David Letterman is going crazy!"

Sexton ran too the locker room.
hes hurt you can just tell. This game looks like its going to be a good one.

OK, I'll give you perspective. But I kinda want to hear about an ND team that actually looks GREAT this week.

BSU has been a rising program for 10 years T2

61 rush yds, good but nothing great.

KB---do you think they'd ignore the game if ND was getting pounded?

Planet, oh I know - I just thought it was funny that they then talked about Letterman ;-)

Ha ha that was hilarious. I wonder if Sexton had a concussion. Maybe he didn't know where he was and got scared and ran home. Ha ha. It seriously looked like a little bit of helmet to helmet there. But I'm SO glad our Irish look TOUGH. This is the first game I'm seeing it consistently. Great job by the team so far.

I also expect them to pick it up in the 2nd half. We always look better in the 2nd half this year - credit the, dare I say it, Coaching.

would love to see ND get a quick 6 after half

Planet - that's my point. ND is winning and they ignore it. ND is losing, and they talk about how bad we suck. Saunders hates us.

What do we care what Sanders Says?

I feel ya KB

Who are you and what have you done with Mark May? (Rece)

godless terrorists have interrupted both my 360 and justin.tv feeds.

Mark May doesn't bother me as much. He just hates ND, doesn't actually claim we are racist (or, not that I have heard). I think it's now pretty obvious given what Ty has NOT done at Washington, that ND was not racist in firing him. But Saunders still thinks it was us being racist.

Let May hate us, at least he's somewhat entertaining about it.

JimK - just so you know, it's still halftime

DenverIrish are you at the tavern with the ND club?

What's everyone think of the Irish so far? I think we have played extremely well so far. Hopefully we play even better in the 2nd half as we have done all year....

mark may just made some comment about jimmy... "I've been telling you all season long to watch out for this kid." lol, holtz told him to run for office..

KB, if UW fires Ty, I think it will be for the same reason ND did: 0 recruitment.

Mark May just said, loosely quoted, "I've been telling you guys all year to watch out for this Clausen kid!"

gotta love Lou...class act

thanks t2 - if the feeds don't come back I'll have to depend on BGS here for play by play.

Tate return to 29

game just started picless bros

well that's not a good start.

CRAPO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shit

damnit, pick6 UNC

holy hell. well. there goes all our MO

JimK, WVFI feed works great.

Now we get to find out what kind of balls this team has.

they'll come back...lesson for jc

that was Zach Fraser-esq...

Jim, you didn't want to see that anyway. Ugly interception.

that was very very bad. we need to score again, get the mo...and get a STOP.

OK scratch that :(

did anyone notice if it was a route problem?

It was bad on the radio....even worse on ESPN 360

That does not make me happy.

it looked like JC just didn't see the Linebacker rolling over

Don't think it was a route problem. The receiver was just plain covered.

there's a game changer. Rally!

Trying to hit RUDOLPH and LB stepped right in front of it

I hate Eli Stone

thanks Bill...jc mistake..

This is where this young team learns and grows. Tough lesson for JC.

Is UNC's QB back?

return to 29

Tate return to 28

Now we find out more about JC.

PlanetEire, even if I wanted to watch those crappy shows.....I wouldn't because of ABC overplaying ads. UGH. It's extra punishment after the INT.

Allen 3 yds

notice we always get at least 3 when we run on 1st down

3rd and 2

3rd and 2

Allen pass 4 yds

need it.

13th int for NC this year

Wait, does UNC intercept passes at all?

Inc pass. Punt ND

NC inspired..our d needs top match them

JC has to quit staring down the receiver - in regards to int

God we better not have to rely on our defense right now...

roughing!!!

roughing the kicker on the punt

roughing the kicker.....1st down nd

First down, hitting the punter (almost blocked) 15 yds

why can they not be BLOCKED? This is insane!

roughing kicker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

roughing the punter.

penalty committed by Richie Rich. no joke. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/foo.../players/ 126534

need to capitalize on that mistake

ND 1st and 10, midfield

Kumara 8 yds

that was a true roughing, unlike Oklahoma's academy award performance

quick slant to Kamara; 2nd and 2

Come on Irish. Complete to Kamara.

t2irish, why are you typing out the situation before every down?

nice run Jimmy

QB draw, 1st down at 40

Duval caught the ball?!?

Clausen picks up 1st down on qb draw

KUMARA is stepping up

Boomer, because there were folks who asked us to give them updates since they can't see or hear the game.

Kumara to 22 yd line, finally

wow that pass just hung in the air. made me nervous as hell.

Oh OK.

JC is coming right back...that is a leader.

t2 is doing announcer duty for our ND picless brethren Boomer...kudos T2

isn't it funny that even the throws that go out-of-bounds are caught by Tate and Floyd? sick.

has Floyd ever NOT caught the ball?

clausen to kumara was quacking, kumara just saved as pick

Kamara just played nice D - ball overthrown, intercepted for 1/2 a second and Kamara nails him.

good play kumara

Duval showing signs of life.

Wow! What a play!

3rd and 10,

Clausen scrambles, pass to kumara, 1st and goal 8 yd ln

best scramble of the year

thanks, Planet - though I'm not the only one - john and others, too.

Alridge to the 2

That scramble took so long my beard grew in.

2nd and goal;

shit with the way Aldridge is running, they should just give him three carries here.

TD aldrige!!!

Aldridge TD!!!!

CRANK ME UP!!!!

Touchdown IRISH.....way to come back from that INT.

Way to run Alridge!

how many times does roughing the punter turn into points? 75% of the time? that's such a big penalty.

i really see some confidence that was not there earlier in the season

nice, sustained drive: 72 yrds, 11 plays (don't know division between run pass, but nice combo). Turk hurt again...

That is HUGE that we scored, we got lucky with the roughing call (in case you couldn't hear the announcers)

After what happened to JC earlier, to come back like this is so huge.

It's like finding water after a year wandering the Sahara! ND is back

PAT good ;-)

Turkevich hurt?

They keep putting drives like this together that NC defense won't be able to keep up

Motovatin...you are correct. Big difference.

We got lucky on the roughing call? That was obvious. I'm surprised our punter didn't get hurt! I think you mean, we got lucky that they hit our punter. I will definitely agree there...

Turk has a bad cut on his arm. He'll be back.

Looks like Turk got a cut on his arm. Should be back.

t
has anyone else lost the ES_PN360 feed or is it just me?

um, that was clearly roughing. yes they got "lucky" that UNC was stupid, but that definitely warranted a flag.

UNC inc on 1st, our QB is better

Jim, there were a few others on here that had no sight/sound...but I don't know if that still the case (that they don't have sight/sound OR that they're still here!)

Let's knock Sexton out again.

I have the 360 link, it cut out on me 3 times so far. just reboot it

mine is on ABC, luckily, especially being in TN

draughn for 5, 3rd and 5

we need a stop. Come on Defense. Do something

3rd and 5, UNC 35

Nix catches a 6-yarder for a 1st down

6 yds pass, 1st down

anyone else hate it when Criqui says "makes the connection?"

McNeil has been getting beaten a LOT today

Long pass, not close

UNC long pass, overthrown, 2nd and 10 from NC 42...SACKED!

Kuntz is a beast.

sack by KUNTZ, needed that

SACK #1! YES!!!!

KOOOOOOUUUUUUUNTZ!

Sack, kuntz, 10 yds

McNeil has the toughest defensvie assignment now that Tate is out. He's giving Nix a hell of a lot of space.

listening to Criqui on sirius is painful at times

Boo yah. Kuntz! Sack!

Yea Kuntz.

3rd and 18, conplete to Nix

you can tell there there are few ND fans in crowd

3 and 18 and they complete...you kidding me. COme on D

You have GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! WHY IS OUR COVERAGE SO TERRIBLE

3rd and 18 and Nix makes the catch - 1st down NC at ND 48

OMG that was fumble!

That ball looked loose

wow that was definitly a fumble

The receiver fumbled and ND recovered but the refs gave it to NC. We should have challenged that call.

NC first down, ND 35

no way. we got screwed

That was a fumble! GAH!

I think you can't challenge anymore. It's all from the booth. Am I correct?

5 yd pass on 1st

Is our pass defense really this bad? This is a QB who was on the practice squad 3 weeks ago...

I thought we had one or two challenges?

John, I'm not sure which plays you can challenge and which -ones you can't

10 yds to ND15, 1st

NC is moving the ball on the ground and in the air; 1st and 10 ND 15 - run to the 5.

9 yd run to 5, 2nd and 1

thats a big dude running for UNC

We need Zib

Wow our D is getting lit up. Someone has to jump one of these outside plays

2nd and 1 at ND 6yd; Timeout (NC or ND, I missed?)

ND TO

David Bruton needs one of those red zone turnovers right now.

TV claims ND TimeOut.

it's like Okl-Texas...and any NBA game

ND called the time out.

Do we have challenges or not? Does anyone know?

coaches do have a challenge

Good play by NC to run that run RIGHT away, and take away our chance to challenge. I'll give them that....

that's too easy.

NC TD on ground

Ok, I looked it up. You get one and if you're wrong, you're done. If you're right, you get one more (and that's it.

TD UNC run.

Do they go for 2?

going for 2

Yea for having two defensive coordinators we sure do look like we are getting beaten. Gotta adjust

2 pt conversion coming

reviewing the play

we cannot stop them. This is just sad

Oh, they're going to review THIS ONE!!

And the review booth people swallowed their whistle on the fumble after the pass reception.

review clearly shows it's not a TD...

Down at 1, nevermind, 2nd and g from 1

they're going to say down at 1

we need to get fired up on d...

"now fellas the ruling on the field was a Touchdown so there has to be indisputable evidence..."

do they have to say this EVERY time? replay has been around for awhile now. i think we know the rules.

While we're waiting, wonder if Aurelious Benn feels funny about his choice of college?

1st and Goal, sorry

1st and goal

now it's a TD

TD UNC, I think...

Did anyone else think that they can't motion two guys at once and then snap the ball? Receiver went in motion bottom of screen to the top and before he was set, at least two guys shifted.
???
Is that true? I know in high school you can't do that. College rule? Anyone?

ok jc...let's live up to your hype

2 pt is no good

T, I saw the same thing- there were actually 3 guys in motion at the same time

2pc no good!

hey! we finally got a defensive stop! (of sorts)

i missed it T, may be they will show replay

Can't motion two guys at any level in football.

Lets make this a 9 point game

who is Tivoing the game?

that's why I hollered at my TV, Bernie, but no one on the field heard me.

You can shift more than 1, but not motion. I've never known what the difference is.

Still leadin'... still leadin'...

If we score a TD, should we go for 2?

the only one not making mistakes today is Brandon Walker

Thanks t2irish.

WTF!!!

We got the good 'ol boys reffin today? I just got home from work.

Normally CW would be all over the refs.

Tate return to ND 34

Tate always looks dangerous

Hey Nessler, the SCORE is not EVEN!

Hughes for 5

I love our 1st down rushing...been a long time

Ouch...

Hughes for -2

Tate looks a lot faster running a route than he does on returns. Not sure why

2nd down rushing not so good

niceness!

HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHES for 15

Finally...screen play that works!

Hughes, picks up 15 on a flare pass. 1st down

Hughes swing for 15ish

Hughes is a big big man

Gentlemen, pass to Hughes, that's flare control.

crap, i am wearing out my remote with ND, UT / georgia and the end of TexasTech/Neb game

*hit

dammit...jc a little too careless

Clausen fumbles, UNC recovers

NC just stripped the ball out of Clausen's hand

shit

Ugh. Wow. We have lost all the momentum now. And we have to rely on a defense who has been getting beat all day. This is not looking good.

We need to step up.

complete for 6

can we please hit Sexton AGAIN?

I think our d will step up...I hope the coaches were in their face

the line needs to put their hands up!! every play is 3 steps and throw

This is the kind of stuff that happens in road games. We need to learn how to win in a hostile enviroment.

flag down

double shit

TD UNC, long run, but there's a flag

GEE, guess ABC is rooting for NC. GO ON? Give me a break....

TD is coming back!!! Holding!

FLAG! whew

Their RB is not happy.

Thank God we ACTUALLY got a holding call for once...

was that sexton on his back? might be injured

Why was the crowd booing before they cut to commercial?

hey, where are all the overseas military folks today? Nate, NavyJoe...

Man we can't keep relying on flags. Their offense is disgustingly predictable. We need a turnover on one of those passes in the flat.

Bernie, b/c of the flag

Bernie-holding call

The refs for this game are that new group of independent refs we've been hearing so much about.

Seemed like a delayed boo to me.

1st down run. 12 yds

The defense looks gassed.

spot foul, 1st and 10 at 25; 10 yard run, now 1st and 10 @ 15

I have ZERO faith in our defense. This is awful.

d is better rested than normal///I think we lead in possession time

finally good 1st down D

qb scoots out of bounds, gain of 2

c'mon D.

false start

d is stiffening...also flag -false start

pass interference on Crum WTF?

Crum?? What happened to him this year?

That was the first time our D has made a decent play this half.

Annnd then crum makes a good stop. Rare solid tackle for us.

what happens when receiver runs into stationary back? is that really int?

Ok, I don't know much, but that didn't look like interference as much as an NC guy running a bad route and running INTO Crum. But whatever.

3rd quarter ends - NC with ball, 3rd and 2 at 4yard line.

4th q coming up

please get a stop. with the way they've played this quarter, ND would be lucky to be down just 1.

4th Q

Seriously, how is that considered Pass Interference?

we still have the lead...we just need to get our backs up now

I lost my feed. Did anyone hold up 4 fingers?

how come we havent recruited DL in the past few years? is that due to TW?

I'm holding up ONE finger...

We're about to lose the lead. Even if they just kick a FG....

good one daybreak!

Our O has scored 14 for UNC -- our D can't win every game .. c'mon, O

Grandmoms, we didn't start recruiting D until Corwin Brown showed up.

we stink on defense

wow...ugh

28-24 NC lead

Sexton runs it in

That, ladies and Gents, was their practice squad QB 3 weeks ago.

There's still 14:55. A lot can happen

There were some DL that NF finished bridesmaid with, e.g., McCoy from OK.

We gotta score and the defense needs to step up!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm starting to remember how much i miss Trevor Laws.

dammit

ok JC - stop scoring for UNC and help us here -- perfect scenario, down on the road against a middling team -- great game for us, tho

I am getting fed up with this friggin crap. We finally get a good team on the ropes and then we just let them take control of the game.

Time for our offense to do something special

Tate-please break ko return

last KO return for TD...Vontez Duff?

Tate returns to 25

tate to 25

lets go Irish -- our ST has to do some work on returns

anyone know game stats for Cooter?

Clausen scramble for 2

Clausen gets a yard or 2

Again, thanks to all for the play by play- much appreciated.

Whew we got away with a blatant hold

perfect scenario -- especially thinking back 33 years ago

Floyd for 25

WWO!

"ZooZoo?"

Great 20 yard bullet to Floyd who get us into NC territory

What's zoozoo?

Allen pass for 4

dont run backwards AA!

lets go JC - our D has held them to 7; we trust you to step up

As much as I dislike NBC it sure beats watching the game on a blog

I think it was "zoom zoom" - but I don't know that that means either LOL

there we go Armand.

allen 14 yard swing pass

Armando allen for 15 on screen

Screen pass, AA picks up 14 to get to NC 30

AA for 3

Allen for 3

hate to even think of "down 5" and the possibilities

overthrown to Tate

Inc to tate in end zone

were gonna score

we have a team with explosive potential...not like last year

3rd and 7 incomplete

Inc on third, going for it

we're gonna score

4th and 7 going for it

please....

jc dumped it off

Not long enough, NC ball

complete to Grimes, but shy of 1st down

....and, MacCain's gonna win!

we are boned. If D doesn't stop them right here...we lose

dammit

turnoverturnoverturnover

Daybreak-o ye of little faith

where is it right now- about the NC 40?

Can't believe this after we played so well in the First Half. Go figure. Still a young team.

NC 20

at least we are watching our first really fun game in... years! and we have a great tradiiton on this very field -- c'mon Irish!

i have faith, don't get me wrong. but look at the way our D has played all day. Have they punted at all?

and tv timeout...

Trevor Laws is going to get a monster sack!

Put Montana in! JK...

thnx

NC made some adjustments I think..their coverage is much better

i wish i could watch this. thanks so much for the play by play.

I'd say the Michigan game was MUCH more fun than this

We need an interception.

KB -- this is where you see the diff in HC's

I think we've played really well - the 2 turnovers are really the difference (as opposed to just poor play.)

Me, hang in there. The O$U game has 2 minutes to go and they are up 13. Those MF's will turn to the ND game soon, I think.

2nd and 7 NC...almost sack...almost intentional grounding

that qb thinks on his feet

how is that not grounding?

He's not outside the tackle box!

where's the flag?

yes. huge stop. YES.

the mo' should be in our favor -- we're in tough shape if we don't get some in this half --- watch around what's taking place at 7 - 8 minutes

big stop

A D STOP? FOR REAL?

Holy hell! We FINALLY FORCED A PUNT!

3rd and 7, pass play short of 1st. NC has to punt. Good D!

YES. thank you D

No doubt, should have been grounding.

NC about to punt.

Punt for UNC

how many 3 and outs have we had today?

quit passing, painter. you are going to lose.

Are we getting juked by ACC officials?

I hate NC fans

thank goodness for a stop

His own guy hit the punter - boos, but no call (thank god!)

Stop booing morons! your kicker was hit by his own team

Actually, I think they said the refs are Big East officials.

haha they boo their own guy being blocked into the punter.... basketball school

I thought for sure they'd call something

Notice how ND has taken the NC crowd out of the game; you can hear a pin drop. (tv timeout)

again -- this is a perfect scenario for us -- still very close -- we have a homerun offense -- if we watch our TO's, we win

We'd boo that too.

was the punt botched or tipped?

Without the turnovers, we would have killed them. Exactly what I expected from a young team. Can we have an error free rest of the game? Praying....

Punt came clean but the punter got knocked over by his own guy.

Kelsey Graham has 2 inches of makeup on

Haha john I like to think my booing is very fair and evenhanded

if we win this game, i'm chugging some kool-aid.

Come on, Jimmy, win this for us!

BGS fans at ND Stadium would graciously explain that the kicker got 'roughed' by his own team...

looks like rugby out there

and ....time for CW to do something that wins it for us -- 4 years, middling team on the road --- UNC isn't the '01 Miami squad

[Continued] therefore keeping boos to a minimum.

Planet, LOL - yeah, AA and about 10 NC guys got 3 yards!

Nice run allen

Bad spot...

3rd and inches

Bullcrap.

i love that word "middling." if a top 25 team is "middling" what is a team like Clemson or Minnesota?

"Thats the baby Jimmy Clausen" ??

What the hell?

how many yards did allen get? what yard line/down?

Nice, Jimmy!

Clausen off the left side, 1st down

a win today and we really move ahead -- time for us to do that -- no excuses to lose this one

9 mins, 1st and 10 own 43

I remember when we couldn't get a few inches on short yardage...and that includes early this season

thank God.

NOT another TO!

almost a fumble, but still ND ball

thank you, t2

2nd and 3

HUUUUUUUUGHES

2nd and 3 midfield; Hughes in - 1st down at NC 45

Hughes 5 yds for 1st d

Hughes is a bulldozer

remember ... where's the 'mo at 7, 8 minutes

OSU has the ball with 28 seconds left, up 13. Hold on for the ride.

What was the frickin 35 second clock doing? 3-2-1, 3-2-1, off... Great job ABC!

"This Carolahna defense... it's always more than... one guy... makin' th' tackle...."

unreal.

Hughes for 2

Hughes for 2; 7 and change on clock

ok, osu running out the clock. let's hope....

OSU is giving 19 1/2 right?

1st Down - FLoyD!

Floyd for 8, first down

floyd 1st down catch (8 yds)

pass to Floyd; 1st down at NC 35

We're on NC's 35

Yes!

No gain for allen

espn says there is still 11 minutes?

I think NC is getting tired...let's keep pounding it

Schultz -- I love middling too -- we have to remember that this ain't anything like what Alabama has played and destroyed week in and week out

1st down run, nothing

ou game over. but not showing nd game. many thanks, t2

2nd down: Clausen sacked at LOS

Dang. sack on Jimmy.

they gotta pick half of it up back here and then go for it on 4th.

Now ABC has the WI band playing outside a frat house.

Sack/NL. 3rd and 10

that looked like personal foul by NC

lets see --- 24 plus 7 would be 31 ... hmmm

interception.

we lose

Well. Thats pretty much game.

Clausen intercepted - receiver went one way, he went another

d is going to have to step up BIG!!!!

switched to usc game

Damnit, pick, miscommunication btwn Floyd and Clausen

dammit! how much time?

We haven't lost yet. And that was a route problem.

Mr. TO! -- well, he'll win us more than he loses, but he lost us this one today -- congrats, Butch!

Fuck. That's probably the game.

about 5 minutes left...no problem is we play it right

Well over 4 minutes left. Guys, the game isn't over yet.

Looks like that was Clausen's fault (according to who Charlie yelled at on sideline)

Looks like I picked a bad day to give up drinking

espn gamecast is about 7 plays behind.

That ain't over by a long shot. Anyone know the timeout situation?

ugh. Well I'd like to say UNC tries to run down clock and we get a stop but our DL just isnt there yet.

Pleeeeease get a stop

how many TO's do we have left?

Jimmy and Charlie!!!!!

What a pitiful pair!!!!!

Who was giving Jimmy the Heisman the other day? Yeah, right!!!

tv timeout - and I don't remember TO status or time left

Man, D, we really need a big-time stop now...

espn game cast sucks ass

Heisman? What the hell are you on?

Too many home games in a row.

late turnover, cue the ND detractors...

Everyone on the offense had a good game, except Claussen.

ND67...cw/jc cracks after one bad play... give me a break

We have at least two, if not three, to's.

And Jimmy is still going to make us proud before this season is over.

Wow aquajock - how insightful.

what did our D give up today --- 7, or 10? JC scored 21 for them?

2 TO's left

Seconded, Planet. Took the words out of my mouth.

Two TOs left

4:31 left, ND 2 TOs NC 3 TOs

One bad play? The whole second half has been a joke.

Don't nobody give up yet. As long as there's time on the clock. So it's a pick? So what. It's like a punt with a good return. Stuff 'em D!

Hey! there's that 3 people moving at once thing again. I don't get it.

its msu all over again.

Claussen should have had two more INTs if not for great plays by receivers.

Aquajock -

Shhh. Watch the game.

Do you think we could beat Ball State?

All right, that's doable. Put some guys in the box and get the ball back.

cmon guys...there is a world of difference in this game

NC 3rd and 3 - 1st down at their own something...

Wow way to freak out that a young team isnt handling a tough road game well.

Be a freakin fan

down/yardage?

Schultz -- not 'late turnover '' -- JC's latest turnover (4 today)

1st down, 3 min left

shit

We stop them, we can STILL win this....

D laid an egg today.

can't afford another 1st d...

2nd and 7 on NC 44

Holy crap, do you guys seriously having NOTHING better to do on a Saturday afternoon?

I agree...jc played a decent game

thanks for being patient with those who are not able to see the game. we are in the dark here.

NC gain of 2, clock at 2:02, ND Timeout

I wanna see Jimmy get ONE more chance.. Come on, D!

well. this next play decides the ball game. $5 says they throw against McNeil who has been getting burned all day.

AS, I have nothing better to do today.

AS...no

If we lose (still a big "if"), it was turnovers by a young team, on the road. Cut these guys some slack. You'll all be cheering them like crazy in the coming years.

not a bad game for us -- but one that keeps things in perspective -- we still dont beat ranked teams -- we still fold when we are behind -- we have some great tools --- UNC has Butch Davis

ME - no problem - personally much prefer this than arguing over opinions ;-)

It's 3rd and 5?

Let's see AS...ND fans chatting versus dimwit who doesn't want to? who's wasting time?

Bernie - completely agree with you. Kinda didn't expect to win. We are in it with 2 minutes left...

Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding, that was directed at Aquajock / FightingGrandmoms.

ND fans totally have a legitimate reason to be here.

Oh, and AS, thanks for the self esteem boost.

C'mon, Jimmy boy, break your yardage career high... NOW!

Bernie P is pretty much right

Irish will get the ball back with 90 seconds left

3rd and 3, 2:02 left. Just coming back after timeout

I think we should expect to win. But we cannot rely on a sophomore quarterback not turning over the ball. A D that allows scores on 5 straight possessions

unc punted?

thnx. Come on D!

Is our Defense really this terrible?

1st Down UNC, need a stop or its over.

Long completion by Sexton; 1st and 10 at ND 25

Sexton thinks he's Montana --- hail the Tarheels! Irish --- carry that rock around with you all week -- we're getting there....s l o w l y !

Dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit fuck.

ND loses to a ranked team on the road and suddenly it's armageddon. according to my scorecard, ND is still even-par through six holes.

let's not lose sight of the goals this season = 8 wins, bowl game, bowl win. that's all i want.

do we have posession or does unc?

Well, it was fun. Maybe next year...

Daybreak-today they seemed to lack passion

#8 nobody behind you

They still can't kneel yet

UNC, first down, unless it is overturned for some reason....

UNC completed a long pass on a roll out. They have the ball on our 25. Thats game over for us.

Yes our defense is this bad. They lose their best receiver and we still lose to their backup QB

We need to look at how we are scheming on D. Its been several games that the D playcalling has really cost us.

Daybreak: Not terrible, but not fantastic yet. We still don't have great fundamentals.

no i think the passion is back.. just not executing on the road. it will come.

ME - NC has possession. ND threw interception and NC has had control for last 4 mins or so.

Dammit, tough loss to take. Thanks again for the updates all, see you next week.

3rd & 3 and a 29 yd completion. Beat McNeil again.

Lets help send TY next week into retirement

I agree Schultz...I had lost all faith last year...now I'm back to "let's see" with cw

Fair enough Mike but our Defense only made maybe 3 good plays all day. Today we played HORRIBLY on defense. No other word for it.

ok, thanks t2. i'm following now. outlook not that good.

excuse me two weeks from now

Remember that the D is about a year behind the offense because we didn't really start to recruit well on D until Corwin Brown got here.

It just burns me that UNC fumbled the ball and it wasn't even reviewed, then they scored on the drive.

This was a game under control, unlike MSU. We did not lose to a better team today, rankings notwithstanding. I will support them as I always have, but this is not a step in the right direction, except for the field goal kicker. lol

I may have confused somewhere in the typing since "ND" and "NC" are easy to screw up LOL!

I really wish we could get a win we can be really proud of. A win against a ranked team on the road would certiainly meet that criterion.

Purdue, SDSU, Stanford, and ESPECIALLY UM are nothing to brag about, IMO.

Oh and since McNeil got beat as i said...you all owe me $5

Wish we had challenged on the UNC fumble!

Glad he clarified what booze/boos they're warming up...

WHAAAAAAT!!

NO WAY!

WOW. well UNC just got screwed.

holy shit! they gave it back to us?

wouldve liked to see us not wilt -- but we are young, and very small D --- at least were still improving --

watch UNC go for it

HAIL MARY CALL!!!!!!!! INCOMPLETE!!!

WOW! That's a game changer! They're ruling incomplete pass...NC 4th down!

Wow, overturned. Punt

PLAY IS OVERTURNED. 4TH AND 3

JC had a good game in the same way Ted Bundy was a good date.

If I'm CW #7 better not be on the other end of the field. He better be gettin ready. Incomplete btw!

Make up call for the FUMBLE!

oh he was CLEARLY down. UNC got BONED

bad call

WOW.... PLEASE

Wow was that a bullshit call.

nice call refs!!!!

jc---this can define you...be Montana-be Montana-be Montana

where heroes are made --- ok, Jimmy!

OK well even if we win now people will have stuff to say to us. Oh well. Let's see if Jimmy can do it in the clutch.

Our ball, 17 yd ln, 1:47 left

seriously...what were the refs looking at. I think thats the worse call I've ever seen.

Ooops, may have posted that Ted Bundy line a bit early.

Here's to me looking like an ass.

Put in Sharpley.

I am livid right now!

I have to agree, much as I root for ND, that's a lot like the catch Tate had last week (or before) where he clearly had control and they initially called it a fumble but then reversed. Point: he had as much control as Tate did

TATE IS A MAN

Clear makeup call. Yahoo.

ON abc now!

Oh, and for all the retards who've given up on the season already: go away. You're worthless fans. You contribute nothing. The stupidity required to give up on a team that's already beat its win total for last year is monumental.

COME ON JIMMY TIME TO CREATE A LEGEND.

Tate reception out to ND 48

still in it...still in it...

time to put on the big boy pants jimmy

2nd and 10, ND 48; p/u of 8 on pass play

1:00 left 50 yd line

1st down on the sneak

Griese: Anti-ND announcer

that was some distance to run a sneak

1st down ND 46 ses

1st and 10 42 UNC

ARGH is anyone else frustrated by the play calling? Unorthodox - I trust they know what they're doing, but I'm still worried!

complete to Tate at NC 28

Tate to the 30!!!!!!!

got it on abc

Irish are gonna win this yall

30 seconds; 2nd and 10

smart play by jc

LETS GO!

Loss of 4, 3rd down

Clausen runs out of bounds; 3rd and 13

FLOYD or TATE cmon

almost did not get out / we can get 1/2 the yardage - not all

incomplete pass to endzone

Inc, 4th down

oooooh!! what was that about a FG?

1 play left...11 secs

4th and 13

Get somethin in the mddle

inc

get a first

throw it in the middle

Clausen got pegged on that play

if that little s--t Flutie could do it (against Miami) --- c'mon, Jimmy!

4th and 13, 11 seconds

throw it up for Floyd. jump ball, just do it. best chance to win.

Statute of Liberty play?

either way, a win or loss is all on our offense ---

this is where weis proves his offensive accumen.

tate about the 15 and he runs it in

throw it to the middle.

they get the first

they stil have to plays left after taht

no BS

Floyd!

Wow, long completion but fumble by floyd.

worst game ending ever

fun game ..... let's start winning them!

besides 2005 usc

game not over!!!!!!!!!!!!!

shouldn't there be a few more seconds on the clock?

3 seconds

This feels like 05 USC

game over. fumble.

probably a fumble, damn

that was a fumble

That should probably be a fumble, much as I hate to agree with McGuire.

better a fumble than what i first thought. i thought floyd tried to lateral.

is it over or...? was there a flag for too many defenders on the field?

His head hits the ground, and THEN he throws the ball away!

But they called him down on the spot, can they continue that now?

Nobody's giving up on the season or the team. That was just a poorly coached and executed second half.

I bet I've been a fan many more years than most of you and have supported the team through thick and thin. I just can't stand the excuses that Charlie gets all the time. He has delivered nothing yet.

could his knee have been down first??

I wish the announcer would shut up--not an obvious fumble when we see it in slow motion

we owe them a blown call anyway

this paly will be a catch there should be plenty of time 5 secons

He is down

macgwire is wrong

NO, IT'S NOT A CATCH AND A FUMBLE. HE'S DOWN!

that's what I'm trying to figure out - if he's down, then there need to be 5 seconds on the clock; if it's a fumble, then the game is over

That was a fumble

i think he fumbled

they need a camera from the other side of the field

end the damn game ---- I'm missing Jeopardy!

Stick around Aquajock. You are going to see some cool stuff the rest of this year, and next year.

HE THREW THE BALL. TO TRY TO STOP THE CLOCK.

it would be hard to argue that as being down.

it depends how long he was on his back when the ball comes out

12 MEN ON THE FIELD....

What a game. Fun stuff...

Butch is right -- CW looks lost

If we get the ball back, I predict a fade into the corner.

were there really 12 men? who saw that?

It's either a fumble and the whistle blew before the recovery, or it's not a fumble and 4 seconds are left.

the ref may have whistled it down, so no fumble

I literally have no idea what they're going to call.

I agree KB...this is better than Duke last year

next week, all!

"His knee was not down."

WTFishcakes, SHOULDERS don't count as "down"?

Now a robbery.

Ay caramba.

that's it.

Fumble, NC ball, 2 seconds left.

damn. well, i hope the team learns from this.

That's a fair, if wrong, call.

1099 comments today

NC recovered the fumble; 2 secs on the clock

wow...usc vs nd 2005

Heart-attack ending;
Tah Heels did not beat the spread.
Still sucks rotten eggs.

Criqui was saying there were too many men on the field, but i guess not.

we have some work to do on D but this is still much more fun than last year. 4-2 / i will take it!

I repeat my previous comment.

Dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit fuck.

Addendum: shitpants fuck.

Doesn't matter. We are still a GOOD team, FINALLY.

bleh, stupid imploding irish.

i have a notre dame wedding to go to next saturday. see you all in two weeks!

Well crappy way to lose a game but what a game it was. ND showed some heart on both sides of the ball there

We got a little robbed there.....

The twelve men was on the spike that never happened.

On to Seattle!

What I don't get is that the set the ball and ND snapped it before the review was called.

It was clearly a fumble but these refs are clueless in how the handled it.

Don't worry, I'll be back. I haven't given up since about 1955. This one just hurts because we took over a game and then gave it away.

Guys we didn't get screwed. The game was over except the refs screwed over UNC. We just made the game look better.

Our Defense was awful today. Terrible. And they were awful last week against Stanford.

Something needs to be done.

We are still a decent team. not yet a "good team."

9-3 is very possible.

we have NOT been blown out once this season. That is saying a lot compared to last year. This young team will remember the taste in their mouths right now. The future looks good.

5 turnovers - killed us. there were 12 men on the field when Clausen spiked the ball, but it wasn't a factor b/c we really didn't have possession

fuck that! Our defense played like shit! That was a horrible game on the definseive side of the ball!!!!!!!!!!

I also think fumble was the right call - the ball bounced up after his shoulders hit the ground, but was clearly out of his control before then.

Guys, the turnovers did it, not the defense. And I only say we were robbed because of the recovered fumble by Blanton that wasn't called.

5 turnovers. No W there. Showed some heart though that was missing last year and even against SDSU.

a five-point loss to a ranked team on the road and people are complaining?

11 months ago, ND was losing back-to-back games to Navy and Air Force at home.

How could that last play even be reviewed if we snapped the ball and spiked it afterwards?

thank you, schultz.

i dont know...i thought he could very well be down...but I guess we will never know with the one NC call not being reviewed.

However, we lost, they outplayed us...and thats it. It shouldn't have to come down to this.

We did not get robbed...had Floyd held on...we would have had a shot.

I agree. This team has clearly come a long way.

See you all in two weeks.

Still not sure why Charlie didn't challenge the UNC fumble? A drive killer!

Yeah, that was almost as bad of an end of game job by the refs as the 2005 USC game...

I agree with bpeters1, you cant review a play after the ball is snapped.

It's been fun - sorry for those of you who couldn't see the game: you missed some great and not-so-great moments ;-). Gotta run and take the dog to the dog park in exchange for me making her watch the game with me LOL.

this was nothing compared to USC 2005 - nothing compares to that!!

we are better than last year, but that is not good enough. That is what makes us ND

Jimmy Clausen may end up rewriting the record books. He may be a first round NFL pick. He may even win a national championship at ND. But right now, he nearly literally handed a game to a less-than-impressive North Carolina team. He. Is. A. Dog.

OK, so maybe we're not GOOD yet, but we sure LOOKED GOOD at times today. There is so much potential. Don't cry about the poor defensive play. UNC will turn out to be a pretty decent team, I think.

ps for anyone who didnt get the game....you should have been able to get it online with espn360

Dissapointed, but we are a much better team than last year. By far one of the most exciting ND games I have seen since BQ vs. UCLA.

Sorry to everyone reading at home. I couldn't accurately describe the madness at the end.

1. Complete to Floyd to the 6 on 4th
2. Fumble by Floyd (close call)
3. Recovery by UNC
4. Clausen runs to the line to spike the ball and there is a UNC defender offsides and 12 men on the field.
6. There is mass confusion and there are about 500 people around the refs as they review the play
7. They call it a fumble

What I don't know is, if they had called for the review before the spike play. If they hadn't, it should have counted. We would have gotten half the distance and a free play because you can't end on a defensive penalty. I couldn't see if they called for the review before we ran the play or not. Any tivo users out there who can help?

'67 Aquajock's comment at 7:09 hit it right on -- as did BernieP's74 about the defense -- Corwin is immune at this point -- certainly, though, not CW any longer -- we are a legit # 35 - 40 team -- and I want a bowl that plays BEFORE December 20th!

Nothing compares to 2005 USC?

How about friggin 1980 vs. Georgia Tech?

Also, didn't a ref blow the whistle before the "fumble?"

There was no spike play, the clock ran to 0.

There were so many things wrong with that end of the game. I will be interesting to see what Charlie says.

NC is probably going to be in contention in the god-awful ACC.

you can't knock them for being an "average" team. they've taken advantage of other team's mistakes all year long. that's something that good teams do. kudos to them.

The Tivo owners can have fun sorting this out, not sure these refs ever could.

If we're talking about painful losses, BC 1993 takes all, IMO. My favorite Irish team ever.

I agree with KB. The defense played its typical "bend don't break" style (I wish it were "no bend, no break") but the offense had far more TO's than usual.

I'm not really going to excuse the defense. It was bad, but it was only slightly worse than the defense we have won with. The offense was the variable that screwed us.

Plus side: Jimmy, 400 yards? Right?

"Nothing compares to 2005 USC?

How about friggin 1980 vs. Georgia Tech?"

How about 1990 vs. Colorado? The clip heard 'round the world.

IIRC, while the on-field refs were Big East, the replay refs were ACC. How they screwed up the UNC catch-that-really-was-a-catch, I'll never know.

The side judge blew the whistle prior to the recovery, but I don't know if college rules are the same as the NFL when it comes to a "clear recovery".

yes, the phantom clip was painful. BC 93, so much pain...i do not remember if the refs played a role in it. it hurts too much to think about it.

NC clearly outplayed us, and I disagree with the overturned 3rd down play that let us back into the game in the first place -- but seriously -- if the clock runs out OR if we spike the ball, I don't see how they can start reviewing.

Man, that TO with clausen getting hit right before it was 4th and 13 hurt. I think Floyd might have fumbled because he was trying to pitch the ball, realizing that they had to get into the end zone on that play. Maybe if we have that TO he can hang on to it. That was my impression, I don't have TIVO.

It was hard to see, but we did run a spike play. I didn't see the corresponding clock though. What is really important is if that play started before they called for the review.

And... I agree with Epee. They can't recover a fumble after the ref blows the whistle. They said he marked it down where Floyd was, but didn't say if they blew the whistle or not.

A tough situation to be in if you are one of the refs, but poorly handled none the less.

A few comments:

1. There were some bad calls both ways--that is the way it goes.

2. This team is vastly improved and continues to improve. It cannot make mistakes and win--most teams cannot.

3. Step back and look at the number of truly young players who are starting or seeing much playing time--Tate, Claussen, Rudolph, Gray, Floyd, Robinson, Smith, Neal.

The future is looking bright!

1980 v Georgia Tech resulted in Gerry Faust being hired.

Woohooo, I win that argument.

LMAO, homey!

ok, i see - a review MAY have been called prior to before the spike/clock-run-out, but we might not have seen it....

Homeydogg - touche my friend...

although turnovers lost the game...the running game and cornerbacks (is playing "soft" 10 or 15-yards off the receiver) took us out of the game...

The Irish need to come out to the northwest and blow out the hapless Huskies. It would be nice to hang about 55 on the dawgs and send Ty out to the golf course for the rest of his life, where he should have gone 4 years ago, except ND was just "racist" for firing a crappy coach.

To call Jimmy Claussen a "Dog" is idiocy. PERIOD!!

Looking at the boxscore on espn.com (hey thanks for the OSU game, you *&^%ers!), and am struck by the fact that we played a ranked team on the road and almost beat them while losing turnovers 5-0. Yeah, they're a work in project, but this team IS getting better. Just got to get the DL horses to stop the run better, and cut down on those damn turnovers.

bpeters - the call was actually more in line with the call that took back Tommy Z's fumble return against tOSU in the Fiesta Bowl.

The question is if he had posession. And from what I remember in the Fiesta Bowl, the player has to take two steps and make a "football move" in order to show possession. This player did not. He only had one foot down then he went to the ground and the ball came loose. You have to remember that in slow motion, even incompletes can look like catches, b/c you have no reference of time.

Jimmy is no dog -- but his turnovers did cost ND the game

Guys this stings but christ the future looks good.

FIVE turnovers to none, on the road, against a ranked team, with tons of true freshman playing not to mention sophmores everywhere.

And we outplayed them I think (see the box scores numbers) and were so close to winning.

To call Jimmy Claussen a "Dog" is idiocy. PERIOD!!

1) Rage talking.
2) Read the preface to the comment, sir. He may do all the great things we expected and hoped for. But tonight will not be a game he remembers fondly. And I'll bet he'll be the first to admit it, and take more blame than even he deserves.

...you can't run that last completion to Floyd to the inside...not with only seconds left...

My pregnant wife just said that she could hear me out the window cussin

I taped the game as always. His back hit the ground. OK just below his trapezeus. #3 was looking to lateral no doubt. But he was down. No, he didn't land on his head BS.

I can live with one knee equals two feet as Madden once said.

The key is " what is the definiton of down"?

He was down before he tried to lateral it. And to me that was a called play. Of which they didn't need to b/c they had 5 seconds left for getting the first down.

Sorry for the rant. Just an unemployed head football coach wanting to do the same thing that CW's doin @ ND!

Go Irish!

Jimmy's turnovers were PART of the reason ewe lost. You wouldn't be talking about them if the D stuffed NC after Claussen's fumble.

I don't think Jimmy played a horrible game today. There's no denying that there were significant miscues on the passing game (i.e. the offense), but it's hard to tell from the couch, with a camera's view, and no personal football experience (speaking solely for myself) whether they were his fault. I got the impression many of them could be attributed to good coverage or poor route-running on the receivers' parts.

That said, I'm pretty sure the pick-six was his fault. It was bound to happen eventually, with his apparent inability to check down on receivers. He has a bad habit of staring them down and it was only a matter of time before that happened.

Now then, who's ready for some college football in which I have no personal stake? Always fun!

Time to take the frustration out on Ty. BleacherReport.com had two excellent articles on Willingham this week. (And at one point I didn't think we should fire him. Was I ever wrong!!)

Floyd felt he had to lateral (I still don't think it was a fumble, it looked to me like he is in control and basically is throwing it when his shoulders hit the ground, look how the ball comes out).

I feel this play at least is a result of having to rely on a freshman. If Floyd just goes down there, they have first down on the 7 and about five seconds left with the clock stopping for the first. Spike the ball after the clock is wound and it's second down with three or four seconds left and more chance at the W.

That said, I'm pretty sure the pick-six was his fault. It was bound to happen eventually, with his apparent inability to check down on receivers. He has a bad habit of staring them down and it was only a matter of time before that happened.

The pick where Floyd was the intended receiver was apparently Clausen's fault, too. Weis sure was talking to him as if it was.

*one more

Jimmy's only a sophomore. If only I could correct some of the mistakes I made as a sophomre in college.

If we did not piss away a TO early in the second half, we probably would have won and all the discussion about the ending would not have occurred.

Pangborn77 - point taken. By no means are Clausen's turnovers the ONLY reason we lost... BUT, if he does not throw those 2 INTs and if he holds onto the ball on that fumble play, I don't think ND loses

well..one thing I know...Clausen looked pretty decent minus the turnovers.

However, he was looking more like the Brady we used to know, with his last throw down field.

well..one thing I know...Clausen looked pretty decent minus the turnovers.

"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?"

But in the end, I'm not going to point to a lot of other soph QBs who could have done a better job today that JC. The next couple of years are going to be exciting

DJ-

I saw that too, but looking at the replay (again, through the eyes of someone with minimal football experience), it looks like Floyd quit on the route. His pause gave Clausen reason to suspect he was gonna cut upfield, which is where he threw it. If Floyd either finishes the post route or does cut upfield, he's open for a significant gain. I'm personally gonna put the blame on Floyd for that one. For the little that that matters.

Nice DJ.

LOL, DJ, I have never heard that line before. Did you just coin that?

And Epee, I am already taking solace in the fact that two weeks from now we're going to curb-stomp Washington.

Haha DJ nice. Touché.

Clausen is improving, that is important for a true soph qb. Things are looking better, last year we would not have scored an offensive TD and would have allowed about 15 more pts. on d. Everyone take a deep breath!!!

Nice DJ.

Not really. :)

AS, Weis was tearing Clausen a new one after the INT. Now, he very well may think better of it when he looks at the video. Also, as Clausen seemed to have a clear view of Floyd he might have adjusted his throw. Or completely thrown it away, and tried again. Who can say?

LOL, DJ, I have never heard that line before. Did you just coin that?

Oh, no. That's an old one...

LOL, DJ, I have never heard that line before. Did you just coin that?

Oh, no. That's an old one...

My first post, so sorry if this has been discussed a bunch today, but F Bob Griese and Paul McGuire. They should have just as well worn NC Jerseys to do the broadcast.

Overall, disappointed that ND lost obviously, but I am really getting excited about this team. Eliminate three or four mistakes today and ND takes it. Jimmy Clausen looks better each week, as does Floyd. Tate is a stud, Rudolph will be one. Kamara returns from the dead. Very excited.

F Bob Griese.

Sorry about the double post. Most of my stuff is barely worth the first one.

You can't turn the ball over 5 times anywhere and expect to win. How you can blame turnovers on Weis is beyond me. Clausen is light years ahead of Quinn at this stage of the game. We have 4 more road games and we have to win 3 of them. I am listening to Mark May mouth off again. I wish the hell we would do something to shut him up. I guess we never will. Once again though we are beating the teams we are expected to beat and losing to the teams we are expected. 2 loses 8 turnovers. Both on the road. That needs to be addressed in a hurry.

Regarding what bpeters said earlier:

I was interested, so I went back and looked at the Rivals top QBs for 07, as those are the guys that we conceivably could have playing for us. I'd encourage everyone else to do the same, because I'm pretty sure it'll become pretty obvious that we got the cream of that crop. No one else on that list has accomplished anything even approaching JC's work, last year and this year.

Yes, Kamara had a good game. Thanks to Red for mentioning it.

And I finally realized today why Paul Zimmermann of Sports Illustrated has absolutely no use for Maguire as a broadcaster.

Watching this team try to give away game after game in the 3d quarter is tiresome. I know it's because they're young, but that doesn't make it any easier -- and I'm only watching the game! Two losses on the season in games ND could have won. Someone said up above that it stings. It certainly does. I can't even imagine how the players feel.

Doug, you beat me to the punch. Looking back to 2004, how are we feeling about Clausen now compared to how we were feeling about Quinn back then? I can't really remember, to be honest, but what do you guys think?

And Doug, I think beating PItt will make a small step towards closing that eternally-agape mouth of his.

No one else on that list has accomplished anything even approaching JC's work, last year and this year.

He's gotten far and away the most playing time. He took his lumps last year, and is dishing some out this year.

Looking back to 2004, how are we feeling about Clausen now compared to how we were feeling about Quinn back then? I can't really remember, to be honest, but what do you guys think?

Physically gifted and getting his brains beat out every week. The first thing we hoped for when Weis came in was for him to get some protection. He got it, and the production was beyond most people's imagination.

Red, with all due respect, you're insane. Griese was effusive in his praise of Clausen. If anything, they were more complimentary of ND than our "home" announcers, Haden and Hammond. Paul Maguire can eat a dick, but Nessler and Griese, IMO, we're pretty even-handed.

I am perfectly sane. You however are insane and trying to steal my magic bag.

Anyone else watching ESPN notice that Lou Holtz referred to himself as an "intelligent coach" and to Mark May as a "player", only slightly-subtly emitting the "intelligent?"

Lou Holtz: infinite lulz.

Just got back from the bar (I'm on the westcoast) and all I keep thinking about is the 3rd and 18 play. 1- How do we let them get 19 yards. 2- HE FUMBLED THE DAMN BALL. They go on to score and there's your ballgame. 5-0 on the turnovers doesn't help and not having a kicker finally caught up to us....44 freakin' yards and we can't go for it. I agree with the decision, I just still can't believe we don't have a guy to knock those through. He makes that we don't need a touchdown at the end. Jimmy had a great game but obviously made some sophmore on the road mistakes. Sorry for rambling, I have a 7 beer buzz and some anger to vent. I am very excited for the fact that the next Irish game for viewing I will be in the stands. We are still a young team. Go Irish!

Mark May is an ass when it comes to his comments re ND.

Just once I wish he would give us a discourse on the number of African-American coaches ND has compared to other schools and how the graduation rate of African Americans at other schools compares to ND. He does not have the balls to do it because he knows how good ND will look.

sad very sad.

clausen is decent for a soph. but he killed ND today.

BUT, the problem remains CW. Until he learns how to run the ball effectively in the 2nd half, he will lose game after game after game. he does not understand the run game.

What does tenuta do for us? he got eaten alive in the 2nd half, could not get any stops. he has not had a major impact = to his salary

will lose to BC, USC and someone else

7-5 is a disgrace with this schedule, so is 8-4.

if CW is not 10-2 next year,

fire his a$$

Sorry for rambling, I have a 7 beer buzz and some anger to vent. I am very excited for the fact that the next Irish game for viewing I will be in the stands.

Enjoy yourself!

Belocki:
Lay off the Kool-Aid.

"7-5 is a disgrace with this schedule, so is 8-4."

3-9 last year. count how many juniors and seniors are key players on this team.

if 8-4 is a disgrace, then i'd love for a disgraceful 2008 season.

Belocki-

The odds of Weis figuring out how to run between the tackles and use those holes and his explosive speed in two weeks are pretty slim.
Point: maybe the running isn't Weis' fault.

Also, I don't think 8-4 is unacceptable. It could be better, but unacceptable. UNC and MSU are decent teams (decent, not great), Pitt is another team that could be a loss as easily as it is a win, and USC is obviously USC.

Red, nicely done. Thank you for accepting my hyperbole in the manner with which it was intended. While we may have our differences vis-a-vis broadcasters, I think we can at least agree on this: Eff USC.

Clausen is great . . . for a sophomore. He needs to learn that he's not yet quite as good as he thinks he is. If he stays buttoned-up, he's beyond competent. It's when he starts thinking that he can backpedal to escape pressure (or when he scrambles and does that turn where he turns his back on the defense -- what the hell is that?), throws off his back foot or holds on to the ball too long that he's a liability. He can't yet make all the plays that he thinks he can.

That said, he's many tens of times better than he was last season. As soon as he sheds his last few detrimental tendencies, he's going to be one of, if not the premier quarterback in the country.

Pointless observation: is this the first game this year where we didn't miss a field goal?

IMO, we're doing fine...

Soph. Clausen > Soph. Quinn
Allen/Hughes/Aldridge > Walker/Thomas
Frosh. Floyd > Senior Shark
Soph. Tate > 5th year McKnight
Frosh. Rudolph > Junior Fasano
2008 D > 2003-2007 D

Tough losses like this will help us learn for the next two years both for the players and coaches. 9-3 or 8-4 and a bowl win this year, better things in the years to come...

you folks have gone soft. when is 8-4 ever acceptable at ND???

2 yrs ago the excuse was; Ty left him no players, now that he has had 3 recruiting classes, the excuse is wait until he gets different players? dont get it. they are all his.

with this schedule, he should win at least 9.

sad

"Clausen is great . . . for a sophomore. He needs to learn that he's not yet quite as good as he thinks he is."

And you know what Clausen thinks?? STFU. You sound like a complete moron.

Some people on here are upset about the loss, I get that, but at least get some fucking brains and figure out who is to blame. Our D played like crap. The line can't stop the run to save their lives and some of you tools are ripping on Clausen. Congrats on your brilliant insight.

We all know the better team lost today.

we are still on track to meet important goals:

get to a bowl game

win the bowl game

and also; DEFEAT bc

Our goals should never include "BEAT BC"...They're not good enough to include as a goal for the year.

"We all know the better team lost today."

Who, Oklahoma?

HomeyDogg;

What happened in 1980 vs. GA Tech? I don't know that one.

What happened in 1980 vs. GA Tech? I don't know that one.

A 3-3 tie (where ND was rather outplayed), which some say greased the wheels for Dan Devine's retirement.

Sounds like an exciting hockey game.

Damn, will we ever get a significant win under Weis? Should have won this one. Choke.

Anonymous: Floyd > Senior Shark?? I strongly disagree.

And belocki, there's a significant difference between what should be according to ND standards based on the 80s and early 90s, and what should be given what we actually have now. I don't know about you, but I did not go into this season expecting us to be world beaters. 8 wins would be fine by me - for this year.

One of the boards on ND Nation is positing that the difference between ND and teams such as Florida and LSU is size and speed in the defensive front seven. Thoughts, friends?

Hakeem Nicks is unstoppable on those look ins. What a beast.

I wonder if anybody ever calls him 'Stevie'? I would have had the DBs sing 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around' to him after every play. That would have infuriated him. I think Tenuta and Brown need me, frankly. I can get into peoples' heads.

Wow, shocked to open this thread and see people beating down Clausen. Sure, the kid made a couple horrible mistakes, but without him we're not even in this game.

All things considered, this is most definitely a loss that showed more improvement. Should they have won? Yes. But with all their mistakes, is it not a miracle that they were 5 yards away from winning the game?

9-3 is absolutely acceptable this year. Consider this: virtually the entire offense is back next year (and is in tact for the next two years), and the defense loses only a few of its main components (with a nice crop of young kids ready to fill in).

The future is bright, and Clausen will grow from every game he plays, good or bad.

Some of ya'll need to relax.

The Irish hves no talent, little coaching, and no toughness...the end.

Josh--great post!!

TSOBO--huh??

Perhaps someone needs to cut TSOBO off. His post is rather delusional.

Watching Wisconsin - Penn State...how was Wisconsin ranked at any point during this season?

TSOBO....No talent? Clausen throwing for almost 400 yards is no talent, huh, OK, I guess we have no talent. WTF.

Losing a game always brings out the class.

Speaking of losing, Les Miles and his #3 LSU Tigers are being beaten like a rented mule by Florida. Love to see that.

Geaux Tigers!

t2irish:

Was watching via justin.tv in the first half, then that went out at halftime and listened via wvfi. I prefer not to be on the board because of the time lag, I'd rather just see what's going on rather than see things like "CRAPPP!!!!!" and then half the 30 seconds of "Oh, Lord, what happened???!!!?!" in my head.

The people who are acting like we just lost by 30 to go 1-5 need to get a grip. We lost to a team very similar to us in talent and skill because we made mistakes and they didn't. 5 turnovers don't lead to too many wins, regardless of what COACHING does. Young players make mistakes--it happens. We should never be "happy" with a loss, but quit acting like it's last year. As crappy as it was, we still had a chance with 11 seconds left. Our playmakers made plays--they just also made some bad plays. Jimmy had some great plays, and some crappy ones, but I agree that he's a heckuva lot better than Quinn was at this point in his career. How quickly we forget.

As to "we should be 10-2 against this schedule", get real. At the end of the year, we may have faced the ACC champ (NC or BC), Pac 10 champ (USC), Big 10 Champ or runner up (MSU), and Big East champ (Pitt). Sure, we're Notre Dame, 8-4 is never "good enough", but reality is reality. Just like after the MSU game, you negative Nancies are acting like this is the end of ND football and we should disband the program because we lost to a top 25 team. Shut up and enjoy the improvement, and take the long term view--get excited for next year. Think about it--if we can improve as much from this year to next as we are from last year to this one, we WILL end up 10-2 or better. Unrealistic? Maybe, but you'll poopoo it now, saying we're so horrible, but then next year if we don't go 10-2 you'll call for heads to roll. Get a grip.

ND's M.O.E. should look pretty interesting this week...

At least Walker's game was a step in the right direction and Kumara seems to be back on track.

DJ - that front seven observation may have something to it. What bothers me is that it seems like whenever our D makes contact with the runner, especially if it's at the line of scrimmage, the runner is usually good for another decent chunk of yards. Am I guilty of selective memory here or has anyone else noticed this tendency? (if this is the case, it wouldn't be speed as much as size/strength/technique)

Re-reading all these posts (good and bad) really puts a smile on my face. It might be the booze, I tend to get a lttle emotional, but it's nice to see that there are nuts out there like myself. Let's hope the boys move forward from this loss and put on a show for the rest of the year.

The fact is, Clausen was a blessing and a curse this game. It was thanks to his heroics that we were in the game in the first place; God knows it wasn't due to our running (although it wasn't unimpressive today). On the flipside, Clausen had some costly turnovers. I don't blame him for the first pick; but getting the ball stripped while getting sacked was something that I would have thought he had left behind last year.

In his defense, the O-line was porous in the second half and he did not have tremendous protection. Additionally, our D -- as someone above mentioned -- cannot stop the run, and could not come up with any big stops today.

All in all, this is a young team with remarkable potential and flashes of brilliance; but there simply is not enough experience yet to expect them to play consistently brilliant. An 8-4 season would be a success. Next year, we should have a great run and be between 9-3 and 11-1. In general, I'm pleased with ND's performance this year, despite a tough loss today.

I just have to point out that both of the late instant replay reviews were correct. The last one was close and I was hoping they'd go with the call on the field, but it was probably correct. The other one, that gave ND a chance when they over turned the 3rd down completion by UNC was correct and an easy call. When the act of catching the ball brings you to the ground, you have to maintain possession after you hit the ground. It is not the same thing as the ground causing the a fumble, you have to be able to maintain control after either hitting the ground or making a football move (which could be just taking a step of two). If he would have taken a couple steps and then hit the ground, it would be a different matter. As it was, it was easy for the officials to overturn the call on the field. I can't believe the announcers are completely unaware of the rule. OK maybe not as many announcers are lazy and just like to talk and pretend they know what they are talking about, but that is another matter.

There was actually a simular call on the almost interception by OU in endzone against TX. They should have reviewed it, but it would have been a tough overturn, because while he did actually take a step or two, the player was really just falling down as he took the steps and he couldn't hold on as he hit the ground. This one was close, but the UNC play was not.

Nate,

Just glad to know all is well with your small alumni club. ;-) - thanks. And I totally understand your point about the delay LOL.

Does anyone else feel like we need to look at this as a learning curve?

Last year = 3-9

This year started with the SDSU game, a win, but clearly not the performance people expected. Since then, their home performances have improved.

Yes, the turnovers sucked, but Clausen has thrown for progressively more yardage for the last what, three weeks?

And the other road game of the season was a 23-7 loss.

I would argue that we have made progress week to week and this was the best team we have yet faced. With a team this young, I think the level of play is going to steadily improve.

to be completely honest, i did not read many of the comments. there are usually some insightful and intelligent comments here. but a lot of them are foolish.

weis is not the problem.

jimmy clausen is not the problem... but definitely the biggest reason why there is much improvement this year.

this is a young team, they are going to lose games like this. probably another one like this, this year.

although this loss was very frustrating. get over it. in the years to come under weis, and the remainder of this year, there will be plenty to be happy about.

I just looked at the box score. As many people said, the turnovers killed ND. NC had 3.9 YPC and ND had 3.0. I look at it as NC had about average for a college team and ND was subpar (but par for 2008 team). ND also had 15 more plays than NC. ND totaled 160 more total yds. than NC and ND had 8.2 YPP and NC had 6.3. I like using the stat where the picks are factored in. With that, ND has only 5.9 YPP so with that NC averaged more yds. than ND on both rushing and passing. Much of that has to do with pass blocking so Clausen does not have to face a jailbreak and the O line opening holes for the backs.

This was a tough game to swallow but young teams are going to make mistakes. You cannot turn the ball over five times on the road and win, especially against a ranked team. Regardless of anything else that went on in the game, the turnovers killed them. NC didn't get in the end zone until ND started turning it over. ND has some great talent, but they are young. Aren't they like -9 on takeaways in their two road losses? And they didn't turn it over at all in the last two home wins. Give them time.

Josh, great post! People verbally beating up on JC through the anonimity of blogs are the lowest form of "fans" a team can have...espeically the Irish of Notre Dame.

They need to submerge their heads in ice cold water for a period of time.

Amen tednict and all the other cooler heads. JC is only a sophomore, for crying out loud. Despite his share of foolish sophomore mistakes in our 2 losses, the kid has shown more than a few flashes of brilliance, not to mention a ferocious will to compete and win. I was a Clausen (and Weis) doubter all last year and offseason. I have completely changed my mind. This team is going to be scary good the next 2 years. Aside from our (mostly) unforced turnovers, we made a pretty athletic D look downright foolish most of the game.

t2Irish: Yeah, thanks for the shoutout--made me feel loved :)

As for the game, Clausen, Weis, and the season, it's all CRAP! Fire Weis now, move Jimmy to 4th String waterboy, and bring in a completely new coaching staff that can retroactively make our 2 losses into 45 point wins. We're Notre Dame, we can change the records after the fact, darnit! And if not, fire the record keepers! 8-4 is not good enough! 9-3 is not good enough! 10-2, 11-1, not good enough! Heck, 12-0 isn't good enough! If we don't win the rest of our games, including USC and a BCS bowl, by an average of 45 points, then fire the entire administration, because they obviously don't care anymore about ND football! 44.9 point margin of victory??!?! NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!!! There is no on the job learning here at Notre Dame! What are we, a University?! There will be no LEARNING here! Only hire a coach that can come in and win his first 100 games! Only recruit players that can come in as freshman and make no mistakes and play like All-Americans! Michael Floyd? Sure, he's got great stats and makes plays, but he didn't know how many seconds were left on the clock and tried to lateral--NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! BENCH HIM, or better yet, yank his scholarship! We're NOTRE DAME, we've got every hot prospect in the country lined up to play for us, and if they aren't, well then it's only because they aren't good enough to make it past our high standards! Waaa Waaa Waaa! I want my 12 wins and 3 Natioal Championships in a row, and I want it NOW!!!![/2 year old]

(Come on, all--let's lighten up a bit and realize that Rome wasn't built in a day. Nor were Holtz, Parseghian, or Leahy simply born with the ability to produce national championship teams (Rock was...but that was Rock). Nor were Montana, Quinn, Huarte, Lattner, Brown, Ismail, Bettis, Pinkett, Ferguson, Gipp, Lujack, Bertelli, Horning, the 4 Horsemen, Bill Shakespeare, Ricky Watters, Tony Rice, Zorich, Ross Browner, Theisman, Nick Eddy, or any ND player perfect from day one. Jimmy's way ahead of Quinn at this point in his career--which I wouldn't have guessed after last year.

Nate:
Great post:

Ara was a great coach but as great as he was, went undefeated, untied only once, including giving up 49 straight points in one game to USC in 1974, losing to an atrocious Purdue team at home in 1974 and losing at home in 1972 to a Missouri team that gave up 63 points the week before. Ara did not have the 85-player scholarship limit.

Holtz was a great coach yet went undefeated only once and still found a way to lose to Stanford after leading by 18 in 1990 and Penn State after leading by 14 at the half, also in 1990. Holtz had a truckload of players on scholarship in the first half of his tenure.

Dan Devine never went undefeated at ND and lost his first two games at home, scoring no points in the first game, with Joe Montana at QB!! He also did not have the 85-player scholarship limit.

The only question I would have about the final play is whether the official blew his whistle when Floyd went down. If he did then we have an inadvertent whistle and the play stops. There is no replay because the whistle stopped the play. If that occured it should have been ND ball at the 11 with 3 seconds left.

I was at the game yesterday and it was confusing for the fans to determine what was taking place on the replay at the end of the game. I thought it was to determine how much time should be put back on the clock when the play was ruled down. I saw an official point to the ground ruling it down.

Caulton Tudor in the N&O today said the two replay calls (Stevens catch and FLoyd's fumble) at the end of the game were wrong and in his logic perspective made a right. Unfortunately, he did not offer details on Floyd's play in terms of why it was wrong.

I have read varying views on the Floyd replay in the blogs and newspaper articles this morning which bring up various points:

Was he ruled down by officials (I said I did see it)? Does it stop play and preclude opportunity of ND players recovering fumble?

HOw much time was on the clock (4 second?).

When does the clock start again for ND to take a snap and spike it?

Did the next play (spike) happen before the replay was made and thereby making a replay possible?

Who made the request for replay - ACC replay officials? Why, if UNC or the field officials do so?

In contrast, On the 3rd & 18 Nicks catch and possible fumble why was that not replayed? Why didn't the ACC replay officials call that if they called for the Floyd replay?

BGS could you do a post mortem this week on the replay (or lack of them)scenarios in yesterday's game, especially the last one. You guys always cancut through the emotion and lend credibility through your analysis. Thanks.

[I just saw the replay for the first time a minute ago and it looked like Floyd's shoulders were on ground before the ball came out.]

Frustrated Domer in NC

...this game was never in the ND win column at seasons beginning or in Las Vegas...Clausen is an excellent sophomore QB...but his "time" and the ND team's "time" will be in 2009 and 2010...what bothers me is the lack of production by the running backs and the abysmal cornerback play...with a little of each...we may have been able to steal this game...

To quote the sage Billy Joel,

"The good old days weren't always good, and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems."

Keep the faith, folks.

...just read where BGI gives "pass defense" a letter grade of "B"...this combines cornerback, safety and linebacker play...I can't see a 3.0 grade...but I'll agree to a 2.3 if you give the linebackers a "C" grade; the safety's an "A" grade...and the cornerbacks...a "D" grade...for both coverage and tackling...

Anyone else bugged by broadcasters not knowing the basic rules of the game and having too strong opinions? Is it too much to have one guy on the crew know the rules? I am talking about NC's 3rd down pass which was dropped when the receiver hit the ground. When you go airborne, you have to hang on to the ball when you hit the ground, even if you get a foot down first (NCAA Rules, Page 206):

XI. Airborne receiver A85 possesses the ball and in the process of going
to the ground, first contacts the ground with his left foot as he falls to the ground inbounds. Immediately upon hitting the ground, the ball
comes loose and touches the ground. RULING: Incomplete pass.
An airborne receiver must maintain control of the ball if going to the
ground in the process of completing a catch.

Jeff, were you thinking of Paul Maguire when you posted? If not, you should have been.

Kudos to all who have kept things in perspective. If you need more perspective mull this over:

Tennessee is in the pits!

Georgia down 31-0 at the half to 'Bama!

Vandy loses!

Texas Tech hangs on for dear life!

Rutgers and the great Schiano look like hell!

WVA is back to mediocrity.

Michigan loses for the first time ever to a MAC team.

Undefeated Northwestern gets pummeled by MSU.

Auburn loses AGAIN!

LSU gets hammered in the same Swamp where Ole Miss is victorious.

OSU does not have to worry about getting blown out in the National Championship game this year.

Get the picture??

Lush:
More perspective:

LSU gives up 51 in a loss to Florida. Trivia question--when was the last time ND gave up 51 or more to anyone? (It has happened twice)

Mizzou loses at HOME!

A lot of comments on the calls made on the field, but it never should have come down to that. I realize it doesn't always work out,but players need to make more plays-so the game doesn't come down to a (subjective) call from the ref.

Also, I will not bang on Weis and play calling because I like the aggressiveness and throwing it all over the field. But, when a qb throws it a ton, there are going to be some bad throws. I hope the staff does some self scouting during the bye and realize the team needs a little more balance. Leaning toward the pass is great by me, but Clausen can't do it all.

I like that, Lush. Basically, there's no way you can be pessimistic with the recruiting that's going on. Pretty soon, we'll be bringing a gun to a knife fight.

It reminds me of the story of the young bull and the old bull. We're walking, not running now. But the result will be entirely satisfactory.

Seems ironic that no one wants to give ND any credit but they jump North Carolina four spots in the polls after they beat us.

MechEng,

Army in 1944 (59 points), and Miami in Faust's last game in 1985 (58 points).

Kris:
Congratulations. And the point is that last year's National Champs had 51 pasted against them. Meyer better consider going pro because Miles will not forget it.

Weis is crying about the call now. It was pretty obvious that floyd didn't know there was time on the clock and tried to lateral. Man up, and admit the truth.

The game was lost at about the 10 min. mark, when the gambler went for 4th and 7, instead of a field goal or punt.

They should use this week to put in some more innovative plays. Compared to Florida and other teams, it's looking real vanilla. On the bright side, finally saw a lineman pull this week and it gained a good 5 yards. Also, did pretty good on 3rd on one. Either way, still whistling in the wind without a defense.

fire latina!!! charlie must go!!!

(sigh)

Only one thing left to say. GO IRISH, Beat the Huskies!!!!!!!!!

This game was much better game than I have seen in 2 years with alot of improvements.I have been critical of JC at qb for most of last year but this year he has prove me wrong. All of the sudden the offense is clicking, yes there is no running game to actually be comfortable with but I think with a bye week CW and company will adjust that. Now we have all of kind of playermakers on the team that, at the end of year it will not just be one or 2 key players, it will be the entire team that every other team is going to worry about. Now alot of people are venting that is fine and I am doing the same but wth 4sec left on the clock and ND marching down the field I for once for the first time in 2 years had hope that we are going to win it, unfortunately we didn't. The team I saw on saturday is a team that feels that they should win that is good thing guys. Go Irish

I was sitting in the area in which this photo was taken! Tough game to watch, yet entertaining. We were competitive and had a shot, which is much easier to stomach than a shellacking that would have most likely suffered with the kind of team we had last season.

We're getting there...by the end of the season, we'll be looking sharp!

Go Irish!
