Also, out of the preseason top 25, only Oklahoma, USC, and BYU finished about where they had been predicted. |
This why the preseason rankings should be abolished. The only reason Georgia ended up at #13 is because they started at #1. If the preseason bias were removed the final poll would be even more representative of on-field performance (and Georgia would probably be unranked). |
How do you figure Georgia would be unranked? They went 9-3 in the SEC east. They could have started the season unranked and they would still probably be where they are. I think you're point is excellent, just not in relation to Georgia. |
Unranked may be a little harsh. However, consider their schedule: |

Big Red, if you keep having these conversations with yourself we're going to have to refer you to Jim Redundant's mental health professional for consultation. |

Just looked at all the 1st & 2nd Team All-Frosh and All-Sophomore squads and threw up a little when I saw how many players Georgia had. They are just as young as we are and they are ranked at 9-3 playing in the SEC. We have a major player development issue. Do you guys think Georgia is only using 10 of its 15 available practices. I'm so pissed we aren't using all of them, has Weis not learned anything? |

I've noticed that it's really only younger football fans who get upset about the polls and the preseason rankings, and this sort of thing, but most of the elderly fans don't seem to be as bothered by it. |

Curse-- excellent. |

UGA is ranked about right. They were ranked #1 because the media always loves a good QB and RB. Not so different then 2006 when we worked ranked so high because of Quinn, Walker, et. al. Ultimately they lost almost their whole O and D Lines (which were very young as is) early. Add that to a defense (again similar to the 2006 Irish team) that gave up a lot of points against good offenses. They are a good team that won 9 games but certainly not elite. Mid-teens feels about right. |
Let's say UGA started the year unranked. (To properly assume this POV, you probably have to regard Georgia as not being Jawja!, but rather like a mid-tier SEC team, like Ole Miss.) How would their season have played out in the rankings? Could they have made it to #16? |
I also think UM and ND also surprised me on how badly their seasons went. As of Dec. 6, ND is ranked 58 by Sagarin. UM is 90. |
Maybe if ND had started the season ranked number 1, we'd maybe be 57th. |
Auburn was ranked #10 preseason, but are nowhere to be found in the current rankings. |
Just to be precise - Georgia is currently #16 and 'Georgia Tech' is #14. |

17 out of 25 preseason teams were in the red. Voters couldn't even get 50% on the right side of the predictions. |
Remember when we thought if we beat UNC, we'd be ranked? Ahhh, the good old days..... |
Hhhhmmm....whaddyaknow. The SEC with 3 highly overrated teams. That conference is consistently one of the better conferences, but rarely ever the best. The media's love affair with them gets old. |
So, like, is there a prize for this, or something? |
So let me get this straight, Georgia should be unranked at 9-3, but rather ended up at 16 simply because they started the pre-season no.1. Remember that next year when ND goes 9-3 against the softest schedule in ND history, becuase irish nation will go ape-shit if they are not in the top 10. |
