Can we get the Fire Kevin White website up? Is it 'that' bad that ND has to add USF to the schedule? Maybe Kent State is next. Figured he'd learn after the cupcakes the the Hoops team played this year. Who wants to pay $100 a ticket plus travel to watch the friggen storied program of USF? I actually think that USF is up and coming. By 2011, this might be one helluva a game. I just hope that USF will reciprocate and we play down in Tampa. This would also help recruiting in that state. true2nd | Email | Homepage | 01.24.08 - 3:03 pm | #

In regards to Laws in the NFL, no doubt he will be a player. Whoever gets him will be very pleased. I also think Zibby can become a productive NFL player. He just needs to get with the right team for him to blossom. true2nd | Email | Homepage | 01.24.08 - 3:05 pm | #

You left out the best part in that second article about Trevor:
"Laws is considered undersized (6-0, 297) by NFL standards for the tackle position, but don't tell him that. This guy is ferocious and scary. A real monster! I was afraid to shake his hand after practice in fear that he might eat me."
Plus, Cinci is interested in him and it'd be neat to see him reunited with Nedu. Erik '04 | Email | Homepage | 01.24.08 - 3:10 pm | #

1) shocker on Trevor Laws. He plays with fire and can jump? well, at least everyone else who wasn't watching ND games are finally starting to recognize it. I still think he'll be a steal wherever he goes.
2) In all the USF articles, notice how jacked everyone is about ND tradition all of the sudden? What happened to ours being a "program of the past"? I don't mind playing USF, I just wish we could use that seemingly large opponent awe towards a real home field advantage. Sometimes it seems our players are in as much awe of playing in South Bend as the visitors are. yak | Email | Homepage | 01.24.08 - 3:46 pm | #

Don't let USF's #2 ranking fool you. They have done well with little talent but aren't actually improving their talent level, and thats what they need to really be up-and coming. In 7 years they have recruited only seven 4- or 5-star players, and five of those were Juco or Prep School. Steve R | Email | Homepage | 01.24.08 - 4:42 pm | #

Why any surprise/outrage/shock that we'd have USF on a future schedule? Don't we have a contract with the Big East to play 2-3 teams a year? Were some of you under the impression that those Big East teams would be limited to Pitt and Syracuse? I'd rather play USF than 'Cuse, that's for sure. Let's not denigrate an up and coming program that was ranked #2 at one point (admittedly, very wrongly) while we went 3-9. If we play a home and home with USF, that's cool. Jim Leavitt, HC of USF, is a tremendous football coach and leader of young men. What he has done in only 11 years is remarkable. When he was hired, A.D. Leroy Selmon walked with him across a huge expanse of West Florida scrub land and then stopped and said something to the effect of "we are standing where the fifty yard line of the stadium will be". They are one of five majors in the state of FL, and with the burgeoning growth in the Sunshine State, he will surely attract and cultivate quality talent as he continues to build and strengthen the program. I have a lot of respect for what Jim Leavitt has accomplished. We can be sure that virtually everything he does from this day forward will entail some form of prep work to facilitate coming to South Bend and getting a victory.
When [name redacted] was fired, I yelled and screamed for Leavitt to get an interview, and I was dumbfounded to realize that he was not on anyone's radar at Notre Dame. (They only considered The Chinless Bee-yotch, Tom Clements, and Charlie.) He's on everybody's radar now, and he very well may be paid a king's ransom to coach somewhere else by 2011. i think that zibby could be the next john lynch and have a very good career. teh same goes for trevor and john. too many people overlook these 3 guys b/c they played on ND's team this year, but they were some bright spots. USF had a very good year, but struggled mightliy once they recieved national exposure. i dont know if they will be able to repeat their success in the future. it's too early to tell about this game. jay | Email | Homepage | 01.24.08 - 6:21 pm | #

Of course, in the interest of balance, it should be pointed out that the Sporting News wrote the following:
"Laws wasn't explosive off the ball, he did not shed blocks quickly and he wasn't involved in the play consistently."
It's like the SN scout read every one else's assessment of Laws and then decided to write the exact opposite. jim | Email | Homepage | 01.24.08 - 6:28 pm | #

More on Trevor Laws:
"Notre Dame DT Trevor Laws has shown up a number of times this week, and he did so Wednesday by scrapping a little bit with Ohio State OT Kirk Barton. Both men have looked solid this week, and they have tangled a number if times."

Now, I like Laws a lot, but filling Sapp's void is a pretty tall order, even if Sapp sucked last year.
More:
"Trevor Laws, DT, Notre Dame: Flashes nice penetration ability with a swim move over the guard's outside shoulder. Very effective on the slant, as well, as he's quick enough to make for a tough reach. A potential find for a team looking for a solid 3-technique pass rusher."

I have an idea. How about everyone just get over the Dana Jacobson thing and stop whining about how it's so unfair? Not to sound rude, but come on. It's over. Move on. If you really want to make a protest, stop watching First Take. I doubt that's a tall order for anybody.
Of all the guys, I really am rooting for Laws to go high. He deserves it. It doesn't surprise me that SN wasn't all that impressed with him; after all, this was the magazine that, in their draft guide a year ago, had BQ going in the 3rd round behind Kevin Kolb.
It's too bad about Carlson getting sick. I've noticed a lot of sites still have him as the #1 tight end, and it would have been nice if he had been able to cement that with a solid showing at the Senior Bowl. I guess he'll just have to focus on the Combine. I'll really be rooting for him there. Jade | Email | Homepage | 01.25.08 - 12:45 pm | #

F*** Notre Dame and F*** Touchdown Jesus have nothing to do with Christianity; it's the football program. It's no different than folks hear saying F*** Urbie, or F*** Poodle.
There are many out there who have not been privileged to encounter the magic of the place and feel that we are a bit unsufferable. They hear this talk about "God's Team" and take it all too seriously.

I remember seeing a couple of weeks ago that someone's brother worked at ESPN and disclaimed the F*** Jesus comment.
I know that I am a conspirarcy theorist but do you think that maybe he was told to say that in order to keep his job. ESPN has very quiet and refuses to release the tape of the event. I think they are hiding something and have put a gag order on it internally.
I also think that they could push a little harder on the Reggie Bush story.

I don't think what Jacobson said should be ignored. What she said was outrageously offensive and insensitive. But what I find most fascinating about this is that, in the beginning, nobody was calling for her to be fired. They just wanted ESPN to acknowledge the incident. ESPN did, and suddenly that wasn't enough; everyone wanted an apology. She apologized, and then everyone wanted to know why she wasn't being punished. Now she has been suspended, and that's still not enough for anyone. Why?
Let's not forget that nobody has been silent about this. All the emails that ESPN received about this (mostly from ND fans, I assume) were most likely the sole reason she was suspended. I believe in forgiveness, and I know everyone else on here does too. That's why it baffles me to see the bloodthirsty way everyone is going after her as though nothing will be made right unless she loses her job and her life is ruined. What will that accomplish, really? Not much, at least in my opinion. Jade | Email | Homepage | 01.25.08 - 2:48 pm | #

Jade,
It would get a hack off the air, and it might teach other hacks that shooting your mouth off in a way that demeans other people is not a viable way to advance your notoriety and career.
In short, it might teach some on-air people to be civil and to exercise some restraint, which is sorely lacking in that industry right now.
I'm not fighting you, Jade. I repsect you opinions on this board. And I agree that this is evolving into a tempest in a teapot.
But this lady deserves no protection. She speaks in public for a living. And if she can't do that well, she deserves the criticism.
If she were an accountant and fouled up an audit in a major major way, you'd expect she'd get fired, no? She failed miserably at he main job function. Hal | Email | Homepage | 01.25.08 - 2:57 pm | #

so, that was probably the least funny thing I've ever had to listen to. I kept waiting for it to get funny. I waded past the gay bashing, her saying she was drunk about a thousand times, the poorly executed cheap shots at Charlie's weight, and then BAM (F- Notre Dame, F- Jesus). It wasn't even funny. Sarah Silverman makes fun of Jesus and I laugh my ass off. This was just drunken ramblings of an idiot. I see why ESPN won't release it...

So why can't ND add another SEC team [really no offense to USF} instead ?
The scheduling policy of the AD is a disaster . Save for the most rabid of fans such scheduling produces little interest in the ND program.
Outside the SEC how about adding an ACC team ? Another Big Ten team such as Illinois would attract both Chicago and national interest as well.
In fact Steve Orsini would be an outstanding replacement for our current AD. Read his bio at the SMU sight. Dana Payne | Email | Homepage | 01.26.08 - 2:02 pm | #

A small quibble... I have always had an aversion to addressing anyone in the non Medical field as "Doctor"
While I merely have a Masters degree , I always noticed that the academicians in more taxing fields were less inclined {if at all} to be referred to as "Doctor"
I fear that at this point at least that the current AD department is not what the "Doctor " { MD} ordered.
Football scheduling by the in house "doctor" is threatening to make the ND program uninteresting.

Hal, I would tend to agree with you on making an example of her except that it wouldn't work. Idiots will be idiots no matter what happens to the idiots before them. And I also must disagree with your point about how an accountant would lose their job after screwing up an audit. Jacobson wasn't doing her job at the Roast. She wasn't at work, really. If she had said that on air at ESPN, then yes, absolutely fire her. But she wasn't at work, so I'll have to disagree with you there.
