History aside....any potential recruits?

I posted this in the "Reverse Angle" comments, but that's an old post and nobody saw it, so as long as this is a mishmash kinda post, I'll re-do it here:

A nice touch: ESPN wrapped up their "Bowl Mania" show with a highlight reel of this season, and Grimes' catch made the cut despite not actually officially happening.

They also included Golden Tate's TD catch against Purdue, in addition to a whole lot of the nation's best running backs making fools out of the Irish D.

Welcome Back Jay!

Agree on Kilmainham...it tied with the Guiness brewery as my favorite stop on my tour of Dublin a few years ago...Both destinations triggered deep emotions but obviously for very different reasons.

That prison sobbered me up like nothing else. It was dark, it was heavy. It is something every visitor will never forget.

I think the ND-Navy game is going to be played there in 2010. If I’m still around, I plan on going then and touring the land.
We missed you.

Would love to know which recruits were at the banquet. I have only heard T.Robinson and D.Crist mentioned. There were 14, supposedly.

Also, how can you listen to Aron Taylor's talk and not believe that if you are a recruit there is no better place! You will have the opportunity to go to the next level, but, it is not a "football mill" like Florida, Alabama, USC etc. Any prospect is just a knee away from looking for employment. With a degree from ND...wow!!

I think Mike Golic, Jr. was there too. At least, on Mike and Mike in the Morning, Golic mentioned that he and his son went to ND for an official visit this past weekend.

I might make a quick trip over to Dublin Ohio.

Shadow - I don't like the beer is as good.

Anyone heard how well the Skunkbear assistant coaches are doing keeping recruits from jumping ship over a lack of a head coach?

Hey - watch it! Dublin, Ohio is me's home town. We have a bar here named Brazenhead that was brought over piece-by-piece from the Mother country (and when they caught the drunks who did it, they wanted them to put it back).
It's Brady-land, too - but like all of central Ohio is has a serious infestation of Buckeye disease.
Oh, and welcome back. I was wondering what happened.

[Jay,

Glad You had a good time. I hope you brought back a truckload of shamrocks and leprechauns back with you for next season and beyond.

I just learned that at the annual N.D. football awards banquet held this past Friday night, the Guardian Award, given annually to Notre Dame's most outstanding offensive lineman, was presented to [drum roll, please] Irish Center, John Sullivan.

Like Forrest Gump, that's all I have to say about that.

They like him. They really, really like him.

Voice

Maybe it was more of a "Least Un-Outstanding Lineman" award.

So, I finally got ahold of a DVD of this 'Arrested Development' T.V. series I've heard so much about. Turns out it's NOT about Sam Young, but it's really good.

Joe Sub,
With the writer's strike ongoing, I hear that a reality show featuring the Notre Dame offensive line is in the works. Check your local listings for "Young and the Listless".

"...in addition to a whole lot of the nation's best running backs making fools out of the Irish D."

You mean like Tashard Choice, Javon Ringer, Chad Hall and the entire Navy football team? Not sure they're the nation's best, but they did torch ND.

Joe Sub,

I love that show. I laugh out loud every time they say the name George Michael.

It's funny every time.

See the movie, "Some Mother's Son" for some more harowing stuff on the jail...Helen Mirren is her usual best.

helen mirren is frickin hot

they're reporting that les miles is still at candidate at UM. they pointed out that nothing in his new K with LSU has really changed. by 'they' I mean ESPN.

I so called it.

The money's in the banana stand.

apparrently there is another Ty was fired cause he is black article on ESPN....SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kilmainham Gaol wasn't in 'Some Mother's Son', since that movie was set in the north of Ireland in 1980, during the period that is called, with considerable understatement 'The Troubles'.

The prison you saw in 'Some Mother's Son' was the Maze Prison in Belfast, site of the hunger strikes.

Fine movie, though.

On the other hand, the prison was featured in In the Name of the Father, Michael Collins, and the original version of The Italian Job.

The Maze was the British name. It was also known as Long Kesh Prison.

Jay,

They may have used the prison to film "In The Name Of The Father", but I think the story took place in Long Kesh, or at least somewhere in the UK, as the Guilford Four were of course arested and imprisoned wrongly by the UK, not the Republic of Ireland. I think you were refering to the filming, but I just wanted to clarify. They may have actually filmed "Some Mothers Son" there as well, I don't know.

Been to Dublin several times. Love that city.

But Kilmainham can't hold a candle to NewGrange just a few miles north. The oldest man made building in existence. Much older than the pyramids. More amazing than Stonehenge.

I'm going to buy/build a house in Donegal someday. Hopefully near Kilcar. When it's up you can all visit. For a small fee of course.

DayBreakBoys,
Will you waive the fee for Ron Powlus?

Ron Powlus can die in a fire

DayBreakBoys, does the given name of "Reilly", an Irish Catholic and a lifelong ND fan get a discount? I've been hankerin' for a trip to the Emerald Isle for some time now; don't think I can wait for 2010.

I've long had a yearning to get to Ireland for a visit, but my wife thinks we'll get our asses blown out of some pub, like maybe worse than booking a week to look around Detroit.

My biggest fear about going to Ireland is that I would meet Bono in a pub, and then not be able to shake the guy while he talks my effin ear off about how everything is America's fault. Then, I'd have to kill the bastard with a Guinness bottle, and subsequently have to spend the rest of my life in a godawful Irish prison. Yep, that's my number one fear about being in Ireland.

Take one for the team, Voice. We'll build you a statue

John...Irish Eyes reports that John Goodman, Steve Filer, Darius Fleming, and Brandon Newman were also at the banquet. Maybe the "biggest" news was that one uncommitted recruit, Trevor Robinson (OG @ 6'5" 304lbs), attended and the others in the Class of '08 were really after him to be a part of their class at ND. I agree with your comment about Aaron Taylor's speech. It had to help in the recuiting. ND really needs to have him involved with the football program in a "legal" fashion.

"Then, I'd have to kill the bastard with a Guinness bottle, and subsequently have to spend the rest of my life in a godawful Irish prison."

Aw come now, Voice. You know thats simply impossible...Guinness isn't served in a BOTTLE in Ireland.

You're safe.

Thanks, Doc. What do I owe ya?
