Pat, the link to the Will Yeatman article only opens up his picture. Otherwise, nice job with the bits.

Hey Pat,
Is the link for "offered up some good quotes" supposed to go to the Inside Lacrosse article?

It just goes to the picture of Yeatman.

I would love to read the quotes about Charlie singling out Yeatman.

JC

Sorry to change the subject, but I couldn't resist putting in this quote from the South Bend Trib, regarding latest commit Jamoris Slaughter:

"Slaughter was recruited by ND assistants Bill Lewis and Corwin Brown. Brown, ND's first-year defensive coordinator, played at Michigan.

'(Brown) said if he would have gotten offered by Notre Dame,' Slaughter said, 'he would have gone to Notre Dame.'"

Here's the story:

The article about Bartley Webb's off-season workouts is definitely worth a read. Puts perspective on summer "vacation." Hopefully his commitment and dedication will help him to be able to put up more than 24 reps at the NFL combine in three years.

Oops, got a bit sloppy with the cutting and pasting. Link should be fixed now.

Yeatman wants to play two sports AND graduate a semester early?!? That's impressive. Nice to hear again that he'll have to take graduate classes in the Spring of his senior year to stay eligible for LaCrosse, as opposed to some of the classes other schools offer like "working out 202" and "Finance 305: How to get a free condo and not get caught."

Not to change the subject matter, but is Gary Gray out for the entire season? I read accounts which say he'll be out 4-6 weeks with a broken arm and other accounts that say he's out for the season.

Domer Steve,

I've heard that while he should be physically healed within 6 weeks or so, there is a chance that they might just hold him out for the season to make sure he gets good and healthy, thereby preserving a year of eligibility. You've got to remember that he just came off another injury (from high school) and I think the coaching staff would like to see him just get good and healthy and learn the system.

kmf, at least we can't blame that one on Ty.

yes, my mistake Flyer. Aren't the Wright brothers from there too?

Just read the article about Bartley's off season workout routine. I wish I had the time/motivation anymore to keep up with that.
Another Flyer here. And indy, you're correct about the Wright Bros.

Steve - It's the shoulder surgery he had after spring pratice and not the broken arm that is likely to keep Gary Gray out all year.

Off Topic - No confirmation of Ethan Johnson commitment yet, but II seems confident in their sources of his commitment.

Additional news: Dan McCarthy and Michael Floyd are rumored to be close to commiting, also.

If all three commit, that is an amazing place to be prior to the season.

In regards to Tony Roberts, yea I miss Tony but hearing Criqui this past year made me realize that Roberts game had started to slip and that given Roberts age, I guess a change was inevitable. However, Allen Pinkett is horrible. He stumbles, stammers and often uses incorrect grammar. Either Pinkett needs to go to radio boot camp or get a different former ND player who can do a better job.

I thought McCarthy was leaning towards tOSU. Getting Floyd would be sweet. He could be the stud WR to put this class right over the top.
CW and CB are working some crazy magic getting this many commitments before the season even starts.

NDnation is now reporting that Johnson has indeed committed to ND.

Tony Roberts IS the voice of Notre Dame football. I grew up listening to him call games, and in my mind there is no one better suited to call the games. Don Criqui is not even in the same league.

blueandgold.com is also reporting the Johnson committment and cites an announcement made last night.

Another confirmation on Ethan Johnson:

Anyone have a count on how many of these smokin' prospects turned down Michigan? It seems like everyone we've gotten was being recruited by UM.

Everyone has their "voice-of-their-favorite-team" from listening to broadcasts growing up. For me, it was Ernie Harwell announcing Detroit Tigers' games, or Mickey Redmond doing analysis for the Red Wings. Harey Carey and Bob Euker are others.

As far as a former ND player possibly replacing Allen Pinkett on the radio someday, Frank Stams does a very nice job providing color commentary for the Akron Zips' games. He should be afforded an opportunity to serve the same role for Notre Dame radiocasts.

Would it be possible to remove Tom Hammond from the airwaves... forever? I wish Pat Haden would do the games by himself.

pat haden? pat haden???? just give me the game w/out announcers, just public address. the only necessary info is the officials' calls anyhow.

YZ, just agree with me. It's much easier to bow to peer pressure and give in to Pat Haden.

CHA-CHING!

Hey as long as it's not Theissman, we're all winners...

It's a 3 way race right now for the "ND alumnus you're most embarassed is an ND alumnus" b/t Theissman, Aaron Heilman, and Troy Murphy right now...Any other nominees?

I hadn't heard about Heilman and Murphy. Did they do anything specific to be on this list, or are they just embarassing in general? Has the "black athlete" comment by Hornung blown over yet?

Duerson has thrown his hat into the "Embarrassing Alumni" ring recently.

And I have to say I cringe every time I see Regis on TV 'cause I never know what's going to come out of his mouth.

Voice of the Irish? Lindsey Nelson.Hands down.

I hate that we have a USC guy like Hayden calling our games. I would think alums would be in more of an uproar.

BRING TONY ROBERTS BACK!

this place should make a shirt in support of Mr. Roberts. His broadcasts are amazing. He is a legend.

Van Patrick is who I grew up listening to on the ND broadcasts.

To answer the question related to ND commits that turned down offers from Michigan, we are now up to 11, following the commits of Slaughter and Johnson.

Hey UM fans, can you count that high? That is one side of the ball at any given time. 11. 11 players that realized playing FOR a UM alum and an offensive robot genious is actually better than playing AT the actual school that produced our new DC.

Sad, sad statement that says about our "brethren" up north. Anyone wanna hit up mgoblue and bug the snot out of Brian about losing another recruit to ND? Or should we just wait until after the September 15th game?

Yeah, I'm wondering too...why Troy Murphy???

chrisnd, I think you might have just started a flame war.

Can someone explain to me what Troy Murphy did that's embarassing?

I honestly think that Haden does a really good job. He knows the game intimately (former Pro Bowl QB), he's smart (Rhodes Scholar and partner in a law firm) and he always gives ND a fair shake. I believe it's because competing against them at So Cal he developed an admiration for not only college football's longest intersectional rivalry but that Notre Dame is all about the pursuit of excellence on the field and in every other endeavor.

Chrisnd, please don't waste everyone's time by trashing other blogs. No one likes it when flamers come onto this blog and start flame wars, so don't do it on other sites.

I believe the phrase is "act like you've been there before."

Kudos for the Barry Sanders reference, Pat. I agree totally. I don't miss the days of OSU is Rightous coming on here, I'm sure the guys over on mgoblue are having enough misery without us.

Speaking of Lindsey Nelson, isn't he who Weis wanted to be when he was an undergrad interested in sports broadcasting.

Slaughter looks good. The surname is appropriate. As Frankenstein might say, "Him think like shark, hit like truck."

If indeed Criqui doesn't continue, I'm not crushed. But I loved his MSU and UCLA calls and I am quite fond of his New England accent.
