God! I can't stand it any more! When does fall camp start for us?

I have Cubbies tickets on Saturday. Here's to hoping that Shark at least makes an appearance.

Go Jeff!

Somehow I think a guy like TT will find a way onto the roster. Best of luck to him and to Nedu - I'd love to see him as a starter.

John deserves the great deal his agent will squeeze out of the Seahawks - sorry NW Irish fans - since it sounds like they are a little desperate for his services.

Can't wait to see Jeff working for Cuban in the friendly confines. Go Cubbies!

QB Browns Alert Level: BLACK (Benched)

And it's not every day that there's a link to my hometown Carroll County Times on BGS.

From looking around on the Browns team site, it seems like the writers there are liking what they see with Thomas. Cleveland had a few key special teams players leave last season, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the roster there.

QB Browns should have been QB Dolphins. They didn't need a starting quarterback or anything. Great season last year, Miami. Nicely done.

Justin Tuck is looking to be the starting defensive end for the defending world champ New York Giants, replacing Michael Strahan.

***Just off the wire***

On a side note, Jeff Samardzija got called up by the Cubs today. It looks like he'll be activated for Tuesday's game.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/ne...tory? id=3505155

Ok...next time I'll read the posts ahead of mine.....

My bad.

Samardzija is in... struck out first batter, gave up a single to Hanley Ramirez, just got Luis Gonzalez to fly out.

Cubs up 2-1, lets hope it stays that way.

Shark pitched 2 innings for the Cubs.

3 up
3 down

with 1 K in his 2nd inning.

over 2 innings, he had

31 pitches
23 strikes
8 balls

I think he had 2K's and gave up 2 hits and 1 run. Decent first showing for the Shark.

Field reports were clocking his fastball at 96-98 mph.

Now, back to football . . . .

Glenn Dorsey of the Chiefs has not signed either. Carl Peterson is such an as*, just give the guy some money and let's play football, huh?

Not making it to camp on time as a Rookie is a bad move. Carlson should have had his agent get the deal done and become a teammate. I understand it's a nasty business, but management favors solid citizens when push comes to shove. Guys who have never taken an NFL snap and skip camp to get more money have a more difficult time making friends.

I guarantee it: Brady will ride the pine for another year, get traded, and go on to win the Super Bowl somewhere else while Anderson tanks. It's the Cleveland Browns' way (and I say that as a Browns fan).

I saw Ryan Grant in a fantasy football commercial on television wearing a fantasy football hall of fame jacket because he rushed for 8 tds and over 1000 yards in 10 games last season. Anyone else see it? Could be worth a mention.

Adrian, I have seen the commercial and it is a good one. And Grant was the perfect guy for the spot. He had one of the 'fantasy' years of all time for the Pack last year. Nice job of acting too.

Better Update: Carlson has signed for 4.5 mil with 2.5 mile garaunteed. He's in camp right now running past safeties like they are standing still

4eva, Thanks, outstanding. JC would have been an all-time ND great had Weis inherited a 2nd QB and a couple of offensive linemen.

Fighting Binny said it. The impostor Cam CaMoron passes over BQ and takes an effing punt returner, Ted Ginn. How'd that work out for you, Cam? What a dumbass. Anybody know where the hell that idiot coach is now?

He's OC for Baltimore.

Thanks anon for Camaroon's whereabouts. I dream that BQ will ascend to Browns' starter, and then crush the Ravens a couple of times a year with The Moron looking on, painfully aware the he only has himself to blame for relegating his career to the crapper.

Hey Voice, wouldn't it be ironic if Anderson was to succeed so well in Cleveland that the Browns ended up trading BQ to the Ravens where your boy Camaroon gets to work with him as the OC? I know it's a stretch, especially with the Ravens having taken a QB in the first round this past draft but stranger things have happened. Given the Ravens record with QB's as first round draft choices (Kyle Boller anyone?) who knows, maybe it will come about someday.

james dougherty pretty much rocks my world.

Shark picked up a save today, 2 innings pitched, 0 hits, 3 strikeouts.

Knoxville,
Interesting idea about BQ being a Raven someday. Get Camaroon out of the picture and I think that would be great. Plus, he and Zibby could reunite, and the Ravens would zoom up "my favorite NFL teams" chart. I don't know if Romeo Crennel would dare let that happen since Weis and Parcells both despise Camaroon, and Romeo would probably discourage letting BQ fall into Cam's unworthy hands because of his old friendships with those guys. Of course, I could be completely wrong. LOL

Luke Petitgout flunked his Tampa Bay Buccaneers physical on Friday and has been placed on the PUP list.

Joe Theismann can be seen hosting old episodes of American Gladiators on ESPN Classic every weekday evening.

I'd like to see Brady Quinn in there. Doesn't look like it will happen.

D.J. Fitzpatrick is in the Bills' camp this summer. He's unlikely to win a job as a punter or a kicker with Brian Moorman and Rian Lindell entrenched at those positions. However, he has been training extensively with Patches O'Houlihan so anything is possible.

Anyway know anything about Stovall's status? Is he still with Tampa? Go Mo!

Heard on the radio here in Wisconsin that Ryan Grant did not show up to Training Camp yesterday as he is holding out for more money. He feels (and probably rightfully so) that his performance last season to completely save the dreadful Green Bay running game has earned him some money. I think GB offered him like a $1.5 million signing bonus or something, but I don't know the details. The radio DJs were hypothesizing that the coach or owner feels that their offensive system is above any individual players, the way that Denver's running game has created multiple 1000 yard backs out of no-names. However, the running game did not exist until Ryan Grant came along, so perhaps he deserves a nice bonus or contract afterall.

The QuarterHug... Giving life to the public

I've predicted many a time that Brady Quinn will end up on the New York Jets.

I'm not sure how this would happen logistically. It just seems like the timing would be right, assuming Anderson does well and Clemens and Pennington prove they're not long-term solutions this season.

Yes, I know I sound like a sports radio call-in moron. But I've got an ESP-like feeling about this.

If BQ ends up with the Jets, I have a feeling the Mike and Mike universe may explode. Me, I'm hoping for the Bears. I don't know why (I'm not really a Bears fan) but I think that would be a good place for him after Grossman and Orton combine for 40 INTs this season.

Jade,

There's logic to both the Jets and the Bears because they've both meh solutions to the QB situation.

It's possible, of course, that someone breaks Anderson in half this season, and the Brady era starts in Cleveland. But I feel like he's headed out of there for some reason.

Hal--

What's also possible is that Anderson completely blows it vs. the Cowboys and Steelers in the first two games of the season. Considering the way he played down the stretch last season, it wouldn't surprise me. I'm pretty sure the Browns staff is sick of losing to the Steelers and they won't hesitate to bench Anderson if they think BQ would get them a W in that game. In that scenario, if BQ led the Browns to a win over the Steelers, I think they'd start him and trade Anderson. We'll see.

I'd kill to see BQ in a 49ers jersey. Alex Smith is a total bust and if I'm not mistaken they did quite well with another Irish quarterback....what was his name , Joe something?????

Jade,

I'm with you there. It's a strange thing that a guy as good as BQ is on the bench in a league where I bet he's better than 30% of the starters. But such is fate.

A couple of months ago, I was in a sports apparel shop with my seven year-old son. We were looking for an ND jersey for him, but this shop had none. As we were walking out, though, I spied a Browns jersey in his size, and sure enough, it was BQ's. When we brought it up to the register, the two guys behind the counter were muttering to each other about the jersey. My son said to me, "Is there something wrong with the jersey? Why are they shaking their heads?" I said to him, "I think they're amazed that someone's buying a jersey for a backup QB on a lousy team located 1,000 miles from where we're standing."

One of the guys behind the counter said, "That's EXACTLY what we're saying; We sold 10 of these in the last month. It makes no sense."

I'm no expert, but it seems as though Quinn's contract is pretty cheap until he starts taking the lion's share of the snaps. The Browns got a low priced backup locked in for 5 years, and there are probably people on this board with a better idea of what his options are in terms of holding out next year or whatever, but my guess is that if he sees playing time this year, it will only be with the goal of upping his trade value or if Anderson totally crashes and burns. Anderson signed a three year deal in February so my guess is that the Browns are planning to ride him to the end of that, then hold his renewal down by going with BQ after his escalators have expired, or resigning him and trading Brady while he still has 2 years on his deal.

I don't think we're going to see Quinn as a starter anytime soon, but on the upside, he should be tan, rested and ready when he eventually takes the reins somewhere. Hopefully someplace with an offensive line!

I wouldn't complain if he ended up in Baltimore though - it would be too sweet to see him compete for that starting spot against the current 'presumptive nominee...'

Indy,

Your legal roots are showing! You're talking like a sober guy who knows it all comes down to contracts and the numbers therein. And I think you're probably right there.

The one wildcard in all this is if Quinn fetches something great in a trade deal. The Browns got him as a steal in the draft, after all. And if the Browns can use him to fill some needs in their starting lineup, they could well be tempted.

Anyways, it's fun to guess and speculate. We'll know soon enough, right?

Any news on Fasano? He's still in Dallas, right?

To my knowledge the Bears have no NDers on their roster...they certainly need a qb.

Hal, you may be the first person ever to describe me with that adjective. A toast to that!

I just gotta do another shout out to Samardzija. Dang, that kid is an athlete. Well done Jeff. Who knows, he didn't win an NC at ND but he just could help end a much longer drought this year... here's hopin'!

While things are quiet here, I thought I'd refer to post on irish Band of Brothers about the 2010 schedule.

Just read on a blog that the Irish 2010 schedule is pretty much done, with just one Big East opponent left to be added to this list:

S04 PURDUE
S11 MICHIGAN
S18 @ Michigan St.
S25 STANFORD
O02 @ Boston College
O09 PITTSBURGH
O16 Army (Chicago)
O23 @ Navy (Baltimore)
N06 UCONN
N13 UTAH
N27 @ Southern Cal

From the 2008 vantage point, this looks like a pretty wimpy schedule. In the past, some ND schedules have ended up soft, of course. But you could always say they were forged in good faith.

Our scheduling used to aim for four big name teams a year. In 1994, it was SC, Fla State, Colorado and Mich. In 1991 it was Mich, Tenn, Penn State, SC, and Florida. In 1988, it was Michigan, Miami, Penn State and SC. You can pick a year at random, almost, since Holtz took over in 1986, and it looks like this. But now we're essentially downgrading to two big games a year.

This, for the record, is what Nebraska does. It's why you only care to see Nebraska play once or twice a year, and it's why you root really hard against them when they play in a big game.

Maybe this is what has to happen to get things back on track. But I hope this isn't a permanent condition.

AS- Fasano is in Miami now. Apparently Parcells really likes him or something (drafted him in Dallas, traded for him in Miami). I guess that bodes well.

Also, one last thing about Anderson and BQ. The Browns are a pretty classy organization; I don't think they would keep a 1st round pick on the bench after this year, if he wasn't playing. Maybe that's naive of me, but it seems as if they really like Brady and want to do right by him. One thing I do know is that Anderson is due a roster bonus of something like $5 million in May (or maybe March?), so a decision will probably be made by then.

BQ wearing Jets green? God would not force that upon him (or me).

JohnF:

He can lead Gang Green to the promised land! I saw it in a dream!

nice comments about Julius Jones in the seattle times this week. The town seems pretty excited to have him here, and he's garnered nothing but praise for his physicality and enthusiasm this camp.
