Yay!! blogger awards!!! Hold on, let me go get my favorite Richard Simmons sweatin to the oldies t-shirt and rainbow pendent! I really want to be able to fully enjoy this moment...
You bloggers are about the gayest f*cking thing on the planet, you know that right.
Did Blue-Gay sky win anything this year? I would have voted for you on best job of linking all Notre Dame news that has already been covered by everybody else. You're the hands down winner in that category.
So just out of curiosity, now that the winners have been announced, what's the next step? Resume submissions to ESPN? I'm on the edge of my seat in anticipation to find out how you bloggers are going to parlay this tremendous honor into a real world payday.
jesus christ... it would be knee slapping hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic. Stan | Email | Homepage | 03.04.08 - 11:52 am | #

I know you're just trying to get attention Stan for some strange and sad reason, but for anyone else that is curious, the point of BGS isn't to be anyone's daily newspaper of Notre Dame related happenings. There are many other excellent resources for that.
As the title of the blog says, our aim is to be a "Notre Dame scrapbook". That means we're looking to document the daily and weekly happenings in the ND football world for posterity. Originally the plan was just to document the post-Willingham coaching search and things just kind of went from there.
And for the record, I'm fully aware of the silliness of patting ourselves on the back like this. But I do think directing attention and traffic to lesser read but still well-written blogs is one of the admirable goals of giving out virtual "awards" like this.
Sadly in Stan's case, his cliche-filled invective falls far short of anything that would be considered for a Best Troll Comment award. Pat | Email | Homepage | 03.04.08 - 12:05 pm | #

If you don't like BGS, and you hate internet blogs, then here's an idea: Get the hell out of ours. Go hang out with Dana horseface on ESPN and get your "real news." Erik '04 | Email | Homepage | 03.04.08 - 12:14 pm | #

Stan, believe it or not, I actually sort of agree with you.

Stan probably has great credence in the Oscar's and Pulitzer's. Awards that are self-serving.Stan the blogs do what the mainstream can't, a continuous reel of *insert favorite team name here* info into ND football and links to other sports. It's something the provincal papers just cannot explore.

I love it when people who profess to hate blogs actually read blogs and then go so far as to comment on them.

Unfortunately, Stan has a legitimate point but this is the wrong place to make the point. Too many blogs are becoming more self-indulgent than your standard blowhard newspaper columnist. I sense that the BGS guys understand this, which is why Stan's comments are misplaced.
The thing that bothered me the most about college football blogs this year was the vitriol displayed by many of the writers which probably reached its nadir during the Michigan-Alabama war about Alabama's recruiting class. Both sides had some terrible things to say about the other. I understand that rivalries are one of the things that makes college football great but there is a substantial difference between "Michigan - celebrating 1/2 of a national championship since the '40's" and what was said during the Michigan-Alabama war. Some of the stuff written on blogs is no better than your garden-variety deranged post on an unregulated Internet message board. Blogs were fun when they started. They are slowly devolving into something that is not fun though.
And, yes, I understand the irony involved in my self-indulgent criticism of self-indulgent blogs.
Nevertheless, keep up the good work BGS. PJC | Email | Homepage | 03.04.08 - 4:40 pm | #

Answer: None. I always thought blogs were stupid and usually contained the incoherent ramblings of someone who actually thought the rest of the world cared about what they had to say.
Not to say that there are no other good blogs out there, but a friend told me about this one a couple of years ago (and the thoughful analysis which is very helpful for some those of us without any real football background), and now I check BGS almost every day. So keep up the good work, BGS!
But if I could find a good blog that tracks ND alum in the NFL, I would definitely read that too. JM | Email | Homepage | 03.05.08 - 12:46 pm | #

Jay, I'm not sure if this question was directed to everyone or not but here is my answer. I read some of the blogs you have linked - mgoblog, edsbs, smqb, etc. I read some other college football blogs such as dawgsports, black shoe diaries, and saurian sagacity. I am also the odd soul who reads NBA blogs such as Free Darko, Hollinger, etc. Those blogs have become obsessed with either declaring Kobe the greatest thing ever or explaining why he isn't the greatest thing ever.
I'm not as emotionally invested in NBA stuff as college football stuff so maybe the stuff on those blogs doesn't bother me as much. It just seems like too many college football blogs are starting to take themselves and the college football blogosphere too seriously. For example, Brian's "Upon Further Review" is an example of how blogs can be great. His vague accusation of racism in response to your Brady Quinn piece last year was an example of how blogs can be distasteful. It was if he felt compelled to respond so he could get praise from non-ND bloggers across the universe. PJC | Email | Homepage | 03.05.08 - 12:53 pm | #

Perhaps Stan is just jealous. Maybe he has his own blog where he tries to produce real news but has no readers and gets no recognition so he lashes out at his competition?
As for other blogs, I only read the ones that are directly linked in a BGS post. Too many other blogs look like they're written by middle school kids, so I stick with the best and the ones that the best directly recommends. I always enjoy when you and another school trade Q&As with each other before a game. Erik '04 | Email | Homepage | 03.05.08 - 1:47 pm | #
