I would love to see the University get involved in some way. From the looks of it, the land can cost too much. ND should buy the land and pay someone to upkeep the site and give tours of the site.

God bless you, Mr. Heathman. May your service to our little community be listed among your virtues, and may your soul rest with its reward in Heaven.

Pat - Is there any contact information available for those who would wish to send condolences.

Sean - I'm not sure. We did run across contact info last spring for Easter's 90th birthday. I'm not sure if that information is current however.

I was lucky enough 5-6 years ago to be visiting a friend in Kansas, about 20 miles from the crash site. My friend's doctor was Easter's doctor, so my buddy was able to arrange a tour of the crash site. Easter was a wonderful man, and spent more than an hour with us, telling us about the day of the crash, the building of the memorial, and his visits to ND over the years. I was at the game a year or two ago when Easter was given membership in the Monogram Club because of his service to ND. It was a well deserved honor.

Well done Easter!
Rest in Peace.

Thanks for this article Pat.

Rest in peace Easter, thanks.

Guys relax. We cant lower the flag at every bad day in America- it dilutes it. He was 90ish. I wish I was so lucky.

RIP Easter

Nobody is lowering the flag, Andy. Just paying our respects.

Thanks, Easter.

Is anyone else having trouble viewing the video? Is there another place to view it online?

I remember the articles from his 90th birthday last year. I definitely wish I'd had the chance to meet him, as future trips to Rockne's memorial will clearly not be the same.

Good article. Thx

I imagine that Easter has already met Knute on the other side.
R.I.P. Mr. Heathman.

That was good.

That's quite a name and he was quite a guy. Thanks, Mr. H.

Gun? Anyone help?

The way Kuntz is going, he may be next in line for the job.

When Rockne died, my dad was a sophomore at ND. The school closed in memory of KR, and told everyone to go home until after the funeral. According to him, no one left. He described the funeral scene to me many times, and a Cardinal came in for the funeral mass.

KR must have been a very charismatic individual, well known for more than winning football games.

Voice,

That is a wonderful thought! I wonder what Rock would say to Easter!

Sean

Easter Heathman exemplifies Midwest values, duty and honor. R.I.P.

On another note, Milton Knox will be making a visit to SB:

Hey Andy C, Who pissed in your cornflakes this morning? He was a sweet old man and were all just saying goodbye. RIP sir.

Voice and Sean,

your comments sound like a mitch albom bestseller.

With GPS available now, someone should get the coordinates and spread them far and wide to the ND family.

Tenuta to ND?!

On a entirely different note:
John Tenuta(sp) from Georgia Tech is being asked to replace Bill Lewis the DB coach who is retiring.
Tenuta(sp) is the mastermind behind the Ga. Tech defenses, and a great hire.

Tenuta to ND is amazing on paper, but where does that leave Corwin Brown? Not trying to incite anything, just curious.

Corwin Brown is still the defensive coordinator.

Tenuta, I would guess, would assume Lewis's positions of Asst. Head Coach and DB Coach. Brown would remain DC, and get a great collaborator.

If we succeed in the next two years or so, Tenuta would have his pick of head coaching jobs, and Brown, too.

corwin brown is going to take over the secondary since that's his speciality and tenuta will take over the LB's b/c that's his speciality. corwin is still the head dc, but tenuta will get to put in his 2 cents with certain blit pakages i'm assuming. this is a great hire considering tenuta was highly sought after his release from GaTEch

jay, where are you getting your information? Forgive me for being a bit skeptical.

Jon Tenuta coaching at Notre Dame.
"It could happen."*

*Trademark shtick (indicating that the audience should suspend their disbelief) of my favorite Tenuta, Judy. She was really famous the last time N.D. was really good. If we can't sign Jon, let's bring in Judy.

I'm just shocked this guy couldn't get another DC job, or maybe I'm impressed he's chosen this position at ND.

If these are the kind of coaching changes we can expect this offseason, I'm feeling pretty good. So who do we bring in on the special teams side of things?

dcdomer- from gold helmet. there's a nd moderator/guru who said that this is going to be the arrangement. obviously he's not charlie so nothing is set in stone, but considering corwin was a db coah in the pros and tenuta was a lb speciality where ever he's gone i think that what the moderator said is a fair assumption.

Check out this site, http://irishbandofbrothers.blogs...with- irish.html

Jay is pretty accurate with his statements on how the arrangement would work. Good work!!! Once this happens (please Lord!) I can't wait for the analysis here!!!!!

It has some interesting analysis as well as interesting comments. WOW, how unbelievable would this be to get him on staff.

Pardon my framented post....I am a little excited about the possibility!

Hearing that makes me warm and tingly inside. Methinks we won't be bitching on the gameday threads anymore about the lack of pressure on the QB if this turns out to be true.

How does this change our chances of getting Keith Wells into our class?

He's a Georgia boy after all, so I'm sure he's heard about Tenuta's ferocious style of defense. Sounds like a great program for a DE to come into if you want sacks and TFL's.

I don't know if Judy Tenuta would do well at ND. She's a Judyist, you know. She could play in the band with her accordian, though.

All I know is, Tenuta's LBs every year I've seen them have been impressively aggressive. Well done, Charlie.

Guys:
Here is something that will take your mind off of the 2008 season for a bit. On rivals.com, there is an article by Olin Buchanan describing the top five teams of all time that won a National Champioship but were truly underserving. Included in the top 5 were the 1966 and 1977 ND teams!!

Lush, I wouldnt worry about Olin Buchanan. Many consider the '66 team one of the greatest of all-time. Hell, they only gave up 38 points all season and 24 of those came against Purdue and Michigan St. In '77 from the Purdue game on ND was the best team in the country and they proved that against Texas. I would say that the Tenuta signing will be the best of this recruiting season. I know Jon personally, he is a great guy, comes from a great family and is one helluva football coach. Welcome, Jon, to the ND family.

Good article at und.com on Coach Tenuta and ND. It is official.
Lush, does he mention the Irish being shafted in 1993 with FSU winning?

Holy Moly we hired Tenuta!!!!!!!

AWESOME!!!

Jim Masterson:
In fact, he does state that the 1993 Irish were "hosed".

First, RIP Easter. Your selfless service was cherished and will be dearly missed.

Second, Welcome Mr. Blitzkreig! Your service is highly anticipated.

So this was first about Easter now about a new coach. You guys are all clowns. Shame on you for using Easter.

RIP Easter

Thanks for the posting

I read that Buchanen article on Rivals that Lush mentioned, and while two ND teams are on there as controversial champions, mention is also given to the '93 ND team that got jobbed out of the honour by Bowden's FSU team.

Do they mention 1984 BYU?

Yes, 1984 BYU was one of them.
