COZY SEAT?!?!!??
The coldest I have ever been in my life (and I've lived in Wisconsin, Wyoming, Colorado and other snow bowls) was in the rain at Ross-Ade in 1971. Irish Right | Email | Homepage | 09.28.07 - 7:36 pm | #

Pat,
I like how the punter drops the kick and then the announcer starts saying, "that's the defense, that's the Notre Dame defense". Not sure what the defense had to do with the punter dropping the ball, but it feels good to know the announcers didn't watch the game back then either. Michael :
It's hard to tell from the film clip provided at that size, but the punter picks up the ball and then it's actually stripped out of hands by the defender. Yes, it was slippery, wet, and miserable, but ND's defense actually produced a touchdown out of what would otherwise have been a safety. They get a mention from Al Wester because they had scored 2 TD's the week before against Northwestern. You'd have to watch the entire '71 ND-Purdue game to truly appreciate how good the defense played on that yucky afternoon in West Lafayette.

I'll see what I can do.
Also, anyone attending the game, I'll be in the intra-mural fields. I'll be the lone Domer in the 44 jersey probably getting beer thrown at him by astoundingly bad Purdouche fans.

The '71 game was a big deal in that it was televised "closed circuit" at the {now known as Joyce AC} ACC.
In the "old days" there were limitations how often a team could be on TV, generally two or three times a year. So in the pre ESPN era this was a big deal. Closed circuit was a big deal.
As a previous post said ,the "D" played awesome. Dana Payne | Email | Homepage | 09.29.07 - 9:20 am | #

First time this season I get to watch whistle-to-whistle with the wife and kids out of the house. I love them, but this feels great. I'm predicting a solid performance and a close victory.
