Hail Mary full of grace...... |
Thanks T-Laws!!! |
Craig Sager! Despite my forbidden love affair with Alex Flanagan, I'll take Sager. But he isn't dressed crazy enough. Hopefully he changes at halftime. |
This first drive is looking good! |
Effin Clausen. If you are out of the pocket and going to take a loss, throw the damn ball away!!! He STILL hasn't learned that. |
.....and you totally redeem yourself! |
BS. |
Looks like just you and me in here today, Skip. Hopefully we'll have some stragglers in a bit. |
WTF kinda call is that? |
I feel sort of pathetic making this my "priority" game for the day but what can you do. |
What the hell? First down signal = unsportsmanlike? Did somebody feed that ref paintchips or something? |
That ref needs to be suspended. What an idiot. |
I will never understand why ND allows the refs to be from the opponent's conference. |
used to be we always used refs from a neutral conference. |
"Perfect position" - reach in with the off arm and give a shove. Gotcha. |
what does the injury report look like today? anyone notable out besides Sully? |
Ugh. |
Can we get one of these made up for ND? http://miamisportsblog.com/2007/...bal-now-hiring/
here we go again. |
That must be why we didn't kick against Navy..... |
still think we should have kicked that field goal against navy??? |
Yes they still should have kicked against Navy. |
Nice tackle on that one |
on another note- this michigan ohio state game is terrible |
Yeah, NavyJoe, but at least Michigan's losing. |
LA Times article today suggests that ND fans are not all that displeased with Weis.....hmmm.. |
Well, I'm not going to speak for everyone else, but I'm not. He had a bad year. It happens sometimes. Before this, he had two fantastic years. He's also reeled in two fantastic recruiting classes in a row. |
I'm actually rooting for Michigan. Let Llllloyd leave with a shred of dignity, and also no tOSU in a BCS game. |
Domer Guy, I can't root for Michigan; it would make my stomach revolt. |
i can't root for michigan either, but i don't there to be any possibility of OSU making the bcs title game...can they both lose?? i'm going to hold out for that |
We just can't get a hard push on the line. |
Wow receivers still cant catch |
Aw God, c'mon Duval... |
I respect your opinion Mike and others who find reasons for all this. For me though there's a difference between a bad and/or rebuilding year and the absolutely worst year of 119. Even after Faust and davie and Ty - I had not thought this kind of year was possible. As far as I'm concerned, the extent of the awfulness is squarely on CW. |
Don't worry Duval, you are still on my fantasy CFB team. |
Nice stiffarm by Clausen, not that it means anything. |
SOMEONE TELL JIMMY THAT HE CANNOT OUTRUN ANYONE!!! Take a chance and throw the damn ball downfield. |
thank you DG. and typically stupid PF |
Ohhhhhhh Henne just got smashed. |
but good |
Hmm...thought Bruton might get that one. |
So Vaas' daughter goes to SMC but is rooting for Duke? Not sure that I understand that one, in all honesty. |
Family trumps college I guess. I think that's BS but whatever... |
was it an acrimonious departure from ND? that would explain things |
W.ell, this is her DADDY |
Play some football. |
is it possible to lose to duke? |
Ball game, UM goes down again. |
Charlies kid doesn't agree with the call |
this year, anyting other than victory is possible. |
They going to show Vaas all game? |
see, this Duke kid looks like a college QB. |
Yeah, I guess that could have been offensive pass interference... |
Every QB that we have faced looks like a college QB except for that horrible UCLA kid. |
I don't like how Walls let's himself get boxed out, but I do like how he wraps that arm around and then attacks the ball. |
Great year Laws. |
Did Stewert drop back on that play? |
Nobody wants to win this one. |
bizarre game so far |
so we still might score first... |
the ineptitude bowl |
where are these refs from? |
Ah, crying Michigan fans. That fills me with happiness. |
I thought I would be rooting for UM but just can't do it. Good game Buckeyes and I'm glad UM isn't in the rose bowl. |
Anon, they're Big East. |
"The Notre Dame Experience" I think that is a bit like the "Gitmo Bay Experience," yes? |
Hey, I'm not Anonymous, I'm onehipdad! Oh, using my son's Mac.... |
Tressel wins and demonstrates class. Despite being clearly upset last week,he was very gracious to Illinois. |
How boring is this game so far? |
Sooo boring. |
Ok, lets stop being cute. 20 run plays right at them, nothing to the outside. |
John Carlson is a horse. |
Duke doesn't like covering Carlson. Let's not forget that, CW. |
Yeah imagine how bad this year would have been without Carlson too! |
how is that not a penalty? |
These Ref's suck ass. |
Wrapping a guy up before the ball gets there is not "good defense", it is a penalty! |
Have we gone one quarter this year without someone scoring on us? The first quarter? |
Here's our Craig Sager with Ted Turner |
Alum Son -- thought the exact same thing, LOL. |
Stupid stupid stupid |
stupid move by the frosh |
This game is just horrible. |
No ones forcing you to watch it |
Being a fan forces me to watch it. |
Notre Dame wins 2-0 on a safety |
Paul, you think we can force a safety? |
My high school team lost 5-3 one time...and that was our rivalry game |
sullivan shotgun mis snaps |
Well duke over throws the ball on a punt and we tackle the punter in the endzone. |
Wow. Harvard is laying the wood to Yale. 37-6 |
Hayden expects rhythem from two 1-9 teams? |
I think I hate Yale just a little more than Harvard so good for them. |
Stay down boy. |
Ok, I suppose that's a possibility. |
Oh good, I was begining to think we wouldn't see the Bush commercial |
Thad Lewis is going to get some receivers hurt. |
Hayden just called these teams "evenly matched." I threw up in my mouth just a little bit. |
Apologies if this topic has been mentioned, I'm here late, but it looks there is an abundance of empty seats in South Bend. On senior day. Sad days, these. |
This game is living up to the hype. |
Voice where art thou? |
I see the strategy here. Bore Duke to sleep and kick a FG. |
what's with the name, L-Ross? |
Hey Domer Guy, what do you mean? |
Maybe it's his name? |
This offense is reminiscent of the days of: |
Just curious. To distract myself from the games this year I have been checking out other peoples' homepages (if they link to one on their posts). I'm assuming you aren't Lawrence Ross the author that you've linked to because his bio is devoid of any ND/Duke connections. You a fan or something? |
How come our recievers can't get open? |
4th down, let's see what we're made of (some underlying sarcasm). |
because they are neither as fast or good as adverised. |
TD LSU |
Regardless of the the outcome today this ND team just has nothing. |
after a time out... |
Wow were brutal. |
Yeah that's unbelieveable, any of you guys believe they jumped? Wow. |
Nice discipline. Good thing we have smart players that can handle counting to three. |
LOL |
play of the game for nd by maust. |
Sorry guys, I'm just going to be negative if I stay on here, and I hate that. Enjoy the game, Go Irish, I'm out of here. |
lol but good play by the punter. |
That's the loudest I've heard the home crowd in several games. |
If this game is 0-0 at the end of regulation, the two sides should just agree to end the affront to football and call it a tie. I'm going to rake the leaves. |
Great, lets make this game longer |
Yep, I'm the author on the site. Being Catholic, (and a Loyola High in Los Angeles grad), I tend to root for ND. But this site great and I enjoy all of your remarks. I initially came because I disagreed with the reason people gave for firing Willingham, but you guys turned out to be pretty cool. |
I think these refs are anti-Catholic. |
Ah, well nice to have you then. |
Undisputably ND has more talent than Duke, Duke is just as young if not younger than ND and the game is being played at home. |
i heard one of the refs mutter "dirty papists..." |
put zibby in at qb |
It must be the loud crowd noise. |
now that play is why I don't think there's much hope for next year against good/elite teams. NO separation for the receiver (against Duke) and an undertrown ball. |
Best quote so far: Tom Hammonds: "Hughes , from Chicago...gained... over 5700 pounds in high school..." |
David Grimes just has terrible hands |
Clausen runs like he's standing in three inches of mud and his shoes are four sizes too big. |
Hmmm, pretty quiet here. Are people starting to not care? |
Wow, another drop. |
sadlfjasoidivjosoivjaooeifjvadsopfij |
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? |
lolololol |
and a smattering of boos erupt...finally. |
Vali -- it's not that we don't care, it's that we've run out of things to say. This is simply unbelieveable. |
Im starting to think I should have rented that movie earlier... |
Screw the booze, I'm going straight to the smack.....I'm just kidding kids, drugs are bad. |
That was a perfect pass by Clausen in a clutch situation. Jimmy can't pitch 'em and catch 'em, too. |
How about trying to pin Duke back inside the 10 and then let them make a mistake. Thats how the game has been coached for over 100 years. |
I wonder if Floyd can make it by the 2nd half. |
A family affair.... feh. TRAITOR! |
What really sucks is that we're moving #3 son today and everthing's out of his apt. except the TV and cable box. Sitting on the floor is punishment enough, let alone watching this farce of a football game. |
Our players need some performance enhancing drugs. Let's give Barry and Balco a call. |
jesus christ this team is worhtless |
That makes 4 15 yarders |
You need talent before the BALCO will help, JimK. |
Well, this is the first home game I have missed this year. I could have been one of the two replay assistants located at each 20-yard line. Somehow, watching this debacle at home on the tube seems slightly better. |
terf is our best player |
I don't think the girl's a traitor. Her father was fired by egomaniac CW. Abou the only thing that saved us from more losses last year was the play of BQ - coached by Vass. |
Vaas needs to stop licking his hands. It reminds me of Davie. |
She needs to see Laura Quinn's seamstess about making a 'Durish' jersey, that's all. |
Lookie there, a football! |
True DG - but the drugs might make them feel better. |
Someone cue the Benny Hill theme song! ("Hacky Sack" I think.) |
How bad are both these teams. Looks like my 2-0 might come true. |
Clausen is like the Lebron James of college football |
Good idea Joe subwat. That HS coach had a Duke/ND hat made up and wouldn't choose sides. But that girl is not happy. Note her comments - she supports the ND players who are her friends but Duke's her team. Sorta like supporting troops but being against a war, I guess. |
Just back from raking leaves; still 0-0 so probably the usual: stupid penalties, droppesd passes, and missed field goals, I imagine. |
Hughes is a hoss. |
Puppy needs a walkin. See you all in the 3rd. |
Alum Son, they haven't even gotten to try any FGs. |
Alum Son, you haven't missed a beat. |
How come they haven't stripped the guys Heisman yet? |
FINALLY. |
Lookie, a touchdown... what happens after one of those? |
Grimes???? |
What a season. People leave in the middle of the "action" to walk their dog, rake the leaves, etc. I can't even get mad at them for it. I've fallen asleep in the second half of at least 3 games this year. |
i like the fire from jimmy. |
I don't like JC much, but that was a big time throw. |
Vali, great one. LMAO. |
This teams funny, nobody even hugged Jimmy. What's up with that. |
Where's that Benny Hill music! |
YEAH!! |
Man, look at those Duke shutdown cornerbacks. |
Let's win this game 42-0. |
it feel like the last 2 seasons |
Wow. I'm actually happy |
nice score but not a pretty play. Returned for a TD vs. LSU or OSU. |
The sad part is that I'm just kinda laughing at the TDs. It's almost like they are falling in our laps instead of us earning them. |
That must be the schematic advantage. |
holy shit the team hates Jimmy - 2 td passes and no one congratulates him. |
I love Duval Kamara |
LOL domer03 - is it his website do you think? |
"holy shit the team hates Jimmy - 2 td passes and no one congratulates him. |
domer 03 |
Wow - how are we not able to score on this team. This is freakin horrible. |
At this point ND can't look a gift horse in the mouth. |
I really wonder what is happening in the locker room. |
Lyonite; |
83 stop shoving that guy. |
Maybe they hate Jimmy because they feel guilty about committing idiotic false start penalties and dropping his passes. Just a theory. |
look at that rating |
Holy Moses, D, buckle up! |
There we go |
D D D Defense |
I'd love to see one more punt return TD from Zbikowski. I'd also like to just see Duke punt, at this point. |
Sometimes, quite often actually, the Irish tackle like the drawings in the Reggie Bush Adidas commercial. |
ND looks horrible but man...Duke is bad. |
LOL Joe; continuing on a theme, they seem to get lost in those same mazes too. |
Okay, for the record, I saw the first TD before I went to walk the dog, so I'm not the jinx. |
Pretty sad that I'm happy were beating a basketball school. |
I missed the entire first half. I wonder if I am the reason we've had such a crummy season. |
Yes Voice -- it's all your fault!! |
voice - i'm glad to see that someone else suffers from battered-wife syndrome. perhaps if I hadn't burned that pot roast.... |
my twins are cuter |
No Voice. It is me. I have been to every home football game this year except this one. |
Jimmy looks faster. Maybe they dried the field at the half. |
My twins hang from my ladies chest. |
LOL! |
Dammit! Please, all, accept my apologies. I was pointing the finger, but three fingers were pointing back at me. I feel terrible. |
My twins can play football. They are seven but they're tough. We could be in South Bend by the fourth quarter. Get them some uniforms. |
Anybody want to hear about MY twins? |
Wow....NO |
the ground caused that!!!! (i wish) |
Nice, Bruton! Between him and Walls, I think we have a solid defensive backfield in the making. |
The cold weather has really cranked up Charlie's snot production. |
Dynamite explanation of the offsetting PFs by the head referee there. |
Wet cold football game |
historically bad |
Looking for a spark |
Is there a trophy for this rivalry? |
iT'S ALSO PLAYING INFERIOR TEAMS. |
So its come to this: |
seven penalties |
oops sorry for the caps |
All o' this haiku |
Robert Hughes is a very well-balanced young man. |
Yo, you can't stop the hip hop, |
Wow.... Allen looked like he had some spring in him on that run. |
For a high school game this isn't bad. |
not that next one |
There it was again... AA is still an inconsistent runner, but I'm sure that will improve with experience |
This season is the lephrechaun's fault. There, I said it. |
With his helmet on, he's Dandy Don, |
Every time I see one good play, I get happy. And then I remember its DUKE and I wonder what it all means. |
I like to call the Illini the Fightin' Zookies, so I'll call the Blue Devils the Fightin' Roofies. After you play them you wake up two days later with a an incredible amount of remorse. |
a bad leprechaun |
NCAA lookalikes: |
Lyonite -- Agreed. :-| |
local clip for a sports show here in LA - announcer: "as an NFL back, Reggie Bush id a fraud." |
Lou Holtz = Granny Clampett |
Thats 12 rushes for 70 yards for Hughes. |
Ah, Voice. I survive on the humor. Thanks for that one. |
Granny Clampett, mos def. |
Thanks. I have always made Lyonites laugh. |
Let's see a shutout today. |
I smell a "thats what she said" joke in there somewhere. |
Um, that lassie be named Daisy Moses, just ask Mr. Farquhar. |
Ok-- last quarter of home football in this *trying* season. The poor seniors. They have to leave that glorious place, and they have to leave like this. |
Also Farlians, Breen-Phillipians, Walshans...I have a history of making them laugh, too! |
Dwight Schrute will be next year's Irish special teams coach. |
HOW are they still making the W? Oh, maybe they meant it for Bush. |
Its Duke on Senior Day |
I have mixed emotions about this being the last home game. This year sucks but I love ND football, even when they lose. I'm a sicko, I know. |
LMAO, AnnexLyonite!! |
CW seems to be an expert on "pains in the butt." |
Well at least Zbikowski looks like he cares. |
I was just going to say that Jimmy C. reminds me of Theisman, and it's not just his number. |
What a brutal game by Kamara |
Well, I know one damn thing. We are not the worst team in America. If I am ever in Durham, NC I will wear my ND T-shirt. |
Voice -- or in Westwood. |
Think about this, we could play the same starting lineup we played for the 2008 and 2009 season with only losing Carlson. |
ND might want to stop throwing the jump balls against a basketball school. |
Is that a good thing?????? |
Vali, is that really a good thing? |
DG, Yes. Who wins if Duke and UCLA meet in the first annual "Teams who fugged up and lost to the '07 Irish Bowl"? |
Damn well should be. The athletes are there and the glimpses of stardom are there. |
Laws will make the irish proud for years to come. |
I hope Laws gets at least 2nd Team All-American, though I sincerely believe that he deserves to be next to Glen Dorsey on the 1st Team. |
Laws is a God |
Laws is such an athlete! |
C'mon, no hoss? |
Laws didn't get the memo to play possum in '07. |
Somebody give the Roofmeister some sleeves. |
The wave has returned to ND Stadium. Shucks. |
He's Lawsome! |
Good one, Subway. |
This game will never end. |
It's not the wave these days. It's the peristaltic flow. |
If Duke ever won, would they 'Raise the Roof'? |
question -- how did Duke put up 24 against Georgia Tech last week? |
Duke can obviously pick up the blitz. |
Chan Gailey teams always revert back to whatever form will ensure a 5-loss season. |
To blatently steal from Wilderness, they Roofied the GaTechorade. |
Lou ntL-- |
Izsthak Perlman sits on the Duke head coach's shoulders = Fiddler on the Roof |
Louisiana-Monroe has beaten Alabama. WTF. |
sjflsjdfjsdlkfjsdlfjsd |
End the Violins. Can't we just all get along? |
Skip-- |
should be 99 or 100 yards for Hughes |
hoss. |
Skip, that's crazy. I'm sitting here looking at teams that ND could have played this season to give a young team some confidence, and I figured most of the Sun Belt would be safe. Guess not. |
Coach Roof was once an enlisted man. One day he said to his Sergeant, "Permission to fall in,Sergeant" and a rueful smile broke the grizzled features of the Sergeant's face. |
Voice, did Chuck Lennon have to use a different phrase at the pep rally last night (other than "raise the roof")? |
Gosh, I just wish Sully could have been out there today. |
So much for TT |
Robert Hughes, I think fondly of you. |
I really believe this season will be looked back on as a strange aberration, not just at ND but in the college football world in general. Things will get back to normal.....maybe. |
Yay JC to JC! |
Great TD! Put in the backups! Oh, wait... |
Jimmy just played Santa Clausen to John Carlson. |
THIS is the game ND should have played against Navy. Pound. Pound. Pound. TD. See, Chuck? It's easy. |
we should start each season with a game against Duke |
Who did Duke beat again? |
Branden Walker has had the game of his life. |
"we should start each season with a game against Duke" |
A woman who is willing to have children with the Duke coach is known as a "Roofer". |
northwestern |
must have been Lou's ESPN pap talk to the team. |
Robert Hughes runs like a demented bull elephant. And I like that. |
We should play Northwestern each year too then. It would really help with our northside suburban Chicago recruiting. |
was that not intentional? I mean, sure, this might seem like a conspiracy theory, but the fact that JC let the clock run down when 5th-year useless senior TT was in, then threw a TD to very-worthy senior JCarlson, is that a coincidence? I don't think so. |
28-0. That should have been the score at the end of the 1st quarter. |
Everybody on television wears makeup, so why does Weis look like an overfed Cryptkeeper? |
"We're not Duke, We're not Duke" |
They should call a timeout on defense and have the entire defense stay in a huddle, but bring Laws out. Get him the ovation he deserves. |
If Duke can score 27 quick points, my pre-game prediction will be correct. |
Duke has not been shut out this season. |
well we do seem to be turning our schedule into something more similar to Nebraska, an SEC team, or tOSU. I believe we have San Diego State - San Diego State! -upcoming, and Northern Illinois rumors persist. |
We're doing what Va Tech, Clemson, et al could not. Hold the Duke offensive juggernaut scoreless. We are finally peaking. |
:-) LOL |
come on people. im happy too. but listen. clausen had no delay of games all game. you think it's convenient he had one when TT was about to score? No way. He wanted somebody else to score. and to him, JC is a great guy. |
Well, I have to say this; |
Stanford should be shaking in their......Ah forget it. |
Why punt? |
Zibby! LOL!!! |
i love this - zbi at qb? |
ZIBBBBY |
well, this should be fun. |
Z! Z! Z! |
How much money has Zibby lost these past two years? Had he come out as a junior, he'd have been a late first round, early second round pick. Now he might not go on the first day. |
Is that a sign? |
Booooooo! |
LOL I wonder what the Duke people are thinking of this! |
This is ridiculous. |
Duke can't be impressed with this |
yay "we're #118! we're #118!" |
anyone else notice TT miss a block there |
This is not working out the way they hoped it would. |
Charlie Weis has a tin ear. |
Well, that was fun. Let's just punt and get this circus over with. What the fuck, how did Z not get a 15-yarder there? |
Alright ...fun had ...now lets move on. |
Zib isn't a very good QB either. |
TT fumble! What a surprise! |
just deserts |
TT - could it be a more fitting end? |
Oh, for heaven's sake. |
Nice year Travis. |
Travis Thomas -- now that's how to end your last game at home. |
TT strikes. |
appropriate end to TTs season....too bad |
in Devine's voice from rudy: "you just summed up your entire career in one play...you could have been an all american" |
adios TT! |
The NNotre Dame I was part of would NEVER disrespect an opponent in this way. But what the f...CW is a Bellechik disciple. |
Tate is playing defense |
I believe that was Ara. |
That was embarrassing. I know that CW wants to send these guys out by having a little fun, but why do it like that? It shows a lack of respect for your opponent, among other things. |
Must blank Duke for the moral victory. |
Yo, D, that line was delivered by the actor playing Ara. |
my bad - you are right. |
TT fumbles ...now Ambrose needs to give up a TD. |
who's dropped more them or us...this is horrible |
Tate covering slot, Prince in there as well... |
JimK - |
A philosphy major, so this is as good as it's going to get for Kate. |
Well at least we have the best band in the country. |
In the era of Ara, the first string was often done before half time....we just did NOT run it up or rub it in. |
Tracer, ouch. The Peace Corps is looking for some philosophy majors. The pay is commensurate with what philosophy majors can earn. |
Its really not that big of a deal, lets drop it. |
"In the era of Ara, the first string was often done before half time....we just did NOT run it up or rub it in." |
"surprisingly poor season," Tom? DO YOU THINK? |
Reno and JimK, I have to agree. Things like that make it hard for me to stick up for Weis. Why not play hard for 60 minutes and try to get ready for Stanford. Send the seniors out with class, not with a token gesture. |
Dude cut them some slack for having some fun - this was tough year for everyone - geez. |
I agree, Paul. Lighten up, people. |
how is this any worse than putting the student manager in at the end of the basketball season? |
Our little shut out is on the verge of going away. |
...the band... the Band... the BAND! |
Is it just me or is Hughes looking more and more like the real deal...and Aldridge more like a back-up?? |
Pickel - you are correct |
Ditto Lou...put all seniors in....second string QB or third....and unless Zibby is 3rd string, leave him on D. |
HUGHES IS DA MAN!!! |
what's worse: letting the guys have some fun at the end of the game, or leaving your starters in the game in order to try to get a shut out when the game is already in hand? |
Aldridge seems to fall down to easily. |
Zibby plays QB on the scout team |
If we're going to reference "Rudy" we should also note that the only reason he got on the field was because of a halfback pass for a TD at the end of a blowout. |
The second string DBs actually get off blocks and come up to make tackles. Tell me again why they weren't playing earlier? |
Shutout. Not so much. |
a shutout would have been nice...oh well. |
Why haven't we seen more of Hughes this year? He was impressive early on, then he disappeared. |
ugh too bad no shutout |
Tate is not playing defense. William David Williams, a senior CB also wears 23 |
Good question, OC. It seems like he was hurt? |
hey all you "classy" guys happy we let them score??? |
Actually, Pickel, I'd call it karma. |
Weis just completely dissed Hughes in the middle of the season. Remember he said Hughes didn't play because Aldridge was healthy. Idiotic. |
NavyJoe - there are 70 plus scholarship players. You can take out the 1st string and still not taunt an opoonent by putting in a defensive player at QB. |
Lou...What's that...I'm a Catholic... |
Darrin Bragg running the offense on senior day = much more appropriate. |
Ugghhhh Sorry I asked, Voice. What an idiot. |
People----DROP IT. We just won a game, please for the love of god. |
Haha, Bragg had to get dirty. Nice. |
These are the kids with heart. Heart is what we lacked this year. |
Good for them. Thank you Seniors. |
WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Good grief. The way some of you guys talk, I'm surprised you don't insist ND wear tennis whites and give up trick plays because "skullduggery is simply not sporting." |
Sorry, Pickel, that should read: |
Vitamin Duke. Just what the doctor ordered. |
TB... |
No doubt Tracer, Bunch of wimps |
Slow dancin', swayin' to da music... |
DG |
I just got a chill. |
Tracer, I don't agree but I'm giving it up for Paul's sake (and others). You guys are right that it's not a time for griping about such things. |
And don't forget the Freshman...likely their first win unless the made it to UCLA |
It just seemed a bit bush league to me. I'm not really going off the deep end about it. |
Thanks Lou. |
A victory lap. Now that's rich. |
Reno, |
Okay peeps, drink up. Pops are on me. |
'night ya'll. |
Voice, where do you live? I'll be there soon. |
At least Laws probably upped his value. |
press conference tuesday morning for michigan...Lloyd Carr expected to retire |
Yeah funny how much better my beer tastes today...oh yeah Michigan lost too... |
Pickel, thanks. I spent a lot of money getting an English degree, so I periodically justify the expense by breaking out the $5 words. |
Gotta go- Victory march awaits....see you later |
Thanks to Jay and the BGSers for a nice game-watch experience here. 443 posts... |
It's great we won. why put Zibby in at qBack? Zibby hasn't showed anything all year. To me it desrepects the competition. |
Throwing deep with your starters disrespects your competition. Letting a four year starter take a few snaps behind a walk-on offensive line and run around is not disrespecting your opponent. |
gotta agree with Pat |
Rich Pretti; |
Congrats on the win, guys. I was too busy watching my Cal Bears choke against Washington to comment much. |
Good comments,Pat, it just shows that Charlie cant win with these fans. Relax and have some fun folks, we all have to go back to work on Monday. We saw some of the future and it isnt so bleak. Wegner did a good job at center, Hughes is capable of being a huge beast in the backfield, Allen looked very good, and Clausen gets better every week. Remember, this is a Duke team that most of you said would beat the Irish. She wasnt pretty at the start, but she got a whole lot better looking when it was over. |
Doomer guy |
The disappointing aspect of TZ playing QB was that Darrin Bragg who sucked it up for ND didn't get to play until after TZ and it was for a minute to hand off twice and take a knee. This is anotherexample of CW's multifarious ability to demonstrate his lack of sound judgement this year. Another demonstraton of this was keeping Hughes on the bench for most of the year when it was evident early in the season when he got a few reps that he has the quick feet to make people miss as well the power to run over people. The quick feet that JA doesn't have and the power that AA doesn't have. I think he tends to pay lip service to playing the best player regardless of age - he plays his "guys"? Demonstrated in spades this year. |
Voice, you have to be in the upper Midwest or the Pittsburgh area, that is where 'pop' is used for that carbonated beverage. |
PZ, do you know the whole reason that Weis didnt use Hughes this year? |
"This is anotherexample of CW's multifarious ability to demonstrate his lack of sound judgement this year. " |
man... can't we just enjoy the victory instead of sniping on Charlie or the players. |
Some of you need to get a grip. Even when we win, you find tons of stuff to bitch about. Step away from your laptops for a minute and have a beer or something. Wow. |
Maybe 56 points is twice as exciting? |
Re: Joe Subway's NCAA lookalikes: |
Whoever we play in the '08 Blue & Gold Game better be wary! |
Wow, I went away for 3 hours and you bitches are still complaining about Zibby getting some reps at QB. You guys make me embaressed to be an Irish fan. Please just enjoy the victory, we have had so few. |
Yeah, I can see Jimmy Stewart in Lloyd Carr, and the voice is there too. I wonder if his players realize it. Maybe not 'til Christmas break when they see 'It's a Wonderful Life' on TV. |
Its a victory, I'll take it and run like a thief. However one game against the Duke Blue Devils at home doesn't change a thing as far as my opinion on Weis' ability as a head coach. |
Momentum is building for "Coach of the Year" honors next year when we go, oh, I don't know, 8 & 4. Wait a minute, my neighbor goes to Michigan and I was thinking what they might do...post-Lloyd. |
You're right, Ty. Lloyd is out! |
Phil Fulmer=Fred Thompson? |
Pat, |
Regardless of all this, football is the "billboard". Institutional excellence is the "legacy". |
Tracer Bullet: I spent a lot of money getting an English degree, so I periodically justify the expense by breaking out the $5 words. |
2-9. |
It gets better. Everybody loves Notre Dame. |
B.C. just beat Clemson. Didn't think they'd pull that off. |
My fave blog statement of the day..."Robert Hughes runs like a demented bull elephant. And I like that." |
Did Kerry Neal & Smith start as OLB's today? |
I think the problem this year is we did not schedule enough basketball schools. We beat UCLA and Duke. Maybe we should schedule Gonzaga and Butler and UNC. |
Good to see these guys smiling again |
Why, exactly, would it have mattered who was in at QB? If not Zibby, it would have been someone else who would have done exactly what he did- handed it off and maybe ran it a few times. Gosh, people around here have turned grouchy this year. We finally get a win, and you still find something to whine about. Amazing. |
Good to see these guys smiling again |
There were LOTs of frosh and sophs in the game yesterday....Ian Williams started at NT for Kuntz, Clausen, Kamara, Allen, Hughes, Aldridge, Smith, Neal, Stewart, Yeatman, Young, Wenger, Tate, Carufel(I think), Maust, Olsen, Parris, Morrice Richardson, Ryan, Walls, and probably a few more that I didn't notice. The thing that is both scary and exciting is that minus Carlson and Sullivan, we will have the exact same offensive team on the field for the next few years. They have shown they have moments of talent, but are yet to show consistency (poor blitz pick-up, dropped passes, etc...) If they can become consistent, I think we could compete with anyone based on talent. It's up to the coaches to make sure that talent truly develops... |
Does anyone else think it strange, that when we lose there is double the amount of comments than when we win. I believe that with the incoming class this team is going to grow, and I believe the coach is going to grow too. What tho the odds....I believe the Irish will be shaking down the thunder once again. |
I think we discovered the weak link on the OLine. See ya Sullivan, the Reggie Ball of Centers. |
Wenger looked good yesterday, stayed with his blocks...he has a bit of nastiness in him too....I believe that there are some nasty guys coming on the OLine, Romine and Dever and Clelland. |
To all the Charlie Haters, there was a 2 minute stretch there in the first half that encapsulated why this season isn't his entirely his fault: 1) Following a 4th & 1 offsides NBC shows charlie telling the O prior that the snap will be on three. Both guards jumped anyway. 2) On 4th and 15 Charlie dials up a perfect call. The pass hits #82 right in the chest - he drops the ball. |

jn, |

I don't think John Stewart has ever represented himself to be a "pseudo-Independent." He's made his left-leaning political affiliations quite clear (although he mocks politicians from both parties pretty regularly). And God bless him for it. |
Stewart has never represented himself as a pseudo-independent. He, indeed, claims to be independent. That you are able to decipher the truth about his true leanings proves that you are much more discerning than so many millions of young people who allow Stewart's satirical presentation of the "news" to actually shape their real-world opinions and views. Scary. |
"Meat-chicken." Love it. Great line! |
Voice - Ugh. Jon Stewart is funny. Get over it. |
I think that jn made a good point, in so far as the team had almost no room for errors this season. This season has had many drives stopped by self-inflicted wounds. Clearly there was room for errors against Duke, which was good for the young Irish. I wonder if they will have some confidence heading into next week. While UCLA pretty much gave the game away, ND had some nice plays in all facets of the game against Duke. Here's hoping they start to believe in themselves. |
Congrats to the team. Boy, did they need that one. Let's hope that they continue it next week. Note to Charlie - you have a running back, his name is Hughes. Please do not let TT touch the ball against Stanford. |
Ixnay on the oliticspay, please. |
Revisionist History. |
Wow...comparing a decision that was made with regards to ND's football program to...the Holocaust. |
Geez Anon, offensive is pretty strong. I think Peter was drawing a parallel between the 2 events as disasters of unbelievable proportions for the people involved. I don't think he was comparing them as proportional in their overall level of historical importance. |
Anon, |
DOmerDan, |

Beers are regularly called 'pops' in Canada. Also, 'wobbly pops' and 'brown pops' (referring to the colour of the bottles, not of the beverage. Note that I spelled it 'colour'. That's very special to me. |
beverage.) |
Notre Dame is undefeated this year playing in the state of California! Deal with that, Harbaugh, Michigan man! It's a juggernaut and it's coming right at you, Bears number four wearin', Stanford-coaching, USC head-messin', ruggedly handsome, Ditka-aggravatin', just don't call him Jumbo Jimbo, my last name's not Palmer dude! |
How did the visits go this weekend? |
I am actually looking forward to watching Hughes next weekend against Stanford. He may be the key in opening us the pass game in the future if yesterday was any indication of his potential. |
2 Thoughts: |
Jeff Carroll of the South Bend Tribune said sevaral weeks ago that Clausen was a detriment to the team,self-absorbed, physically weak, and in over his head. |
Not to derail what's left of this thread, but I cannot let Doug's statement (11/17 at 9:32 pm) that "pop" as a noun meaning carbonated beverage is confined to Pittsburgh and the Upper Midwest. Not so: like Gertrude Stein's description of the real America, "pop" starts at the Allegheny Mountains (around Altoona, PA) and extends west to the Pacific Ocean. |
I am looking in my post to where I said confined, where is "pop" as a noun meaning a carbonated beverage predominant? |
The last time Travis Thomas touched the football at Notre Dame stadium he fumbled. What was he doing on the field? Why was he selected as a captain of this team? Why was he asked to comeback for a 5th year? |
Jeff Carrol's a joke. But I did see one thing after one of JC's TD passes that made me a little paranoid-- anyone notice how Clausen was seemingly ignored when he went to join the ensuing end zone celebration? Mind you I was flipping back and forth from the "real" Div.I game being played in AA, so maybe I didn't see the whole shot clearly. But I'd still like to track down some footage to see it again. |
if you don't think someone that celebrates his signing to ND in a stretch hummer limo, wearing his HS championship rings at the cfb hall of fame, and proclaiming to bring in 4 nat'l championships not self absorbed, i dunno who is. |
Scott - I commented on that up above, and a few other people noticed it as well. |
Let me see, the receivers are downfield when the pass is thrown, the QB is generally the last person downfield when a touchdown is made, I think you people are looking for things that arent there. Usually the QB is congratulating the receiver. I cant believe the psychoanalysts that post here thinking that by watching a game on television you can dissect the problems of this team. How many times did you see the players jumping on Quinn when he threw the TD pass? |
I'm amazed at some of the bitching in this thread. |
I'll tell you WTF: It was a mortifying disrespect for the game, for Duke, for OUR team, and for all the other players, and espcially for Darrin Bragg, a scholarship player who laced it up in practice every GD day just like Zibby, and who had to sit there while the team stumbled its way through the subsitution, and then through a procedure penalty, just to get a couple of crappy running plays in. I like Zibby as much as the next guy, and he deserves credit for staying with it. (Shoot, every day for the rest of his life he'll ask himself "what if"--what if I'd gone into the draft after my monster '05 season.) Fine. Give the guy his props. But don't make a mockery of your fans, the game, your opponent, and another one of your players--a scholarship QB, no less--like this. Listen, I've been with the Evil Genius through thick and thin, and in the worst moments, when all the haters were calling him an a**hole, I thought: "Yeah, but he's OUR a**hole." Freezing my butt off through Saturday's game--especially through the embarassment of the last five minutes, during which Weis showed, I thought, a shocking degree of arrogance and selfishness--I'm inclined to think this morning that maybe he is just another Jersey a**hole. Sorry. |
Doug - i understand the logistics of the QB getting down the field to celebrate, but go back and look at the tape of the celebration after the first TD. |
domer03inbmore -- I need to nip this before it goes any further. JC is by all accounts a solid teammate, well-liked by the other players, and already a young leader on the team. To take an isolated camera shot and extrapolate it into something nefarious is just silly. Both Dylan and I have sat within a few rows of the Irish bench this year for several games, and you won't see a more engaged, supportive, and celebratory teammate than Jimmy Clausen. You're seeing something that isn't there. |
Clauson was 19 not 17 when he made that embarassing display before he signed. He's older than a normal freshman because his parents held him back to give him an advantage over the other kids in high school. |
Some of you who have posted your comments need a dose of self-confidence and strong appreciation for what Weis has done. Yes, this has been a terrible season. Yes, Weis is responsible in part for that. Yes, there isn't a damn thing we can do about. Fire Weis? Stupid and idiotic to suggest it. You are a moron if you subscribe to that infantile idea. By people who know far more than you, Weis has been hailed as a great recruiter. He has taken the Irish to two BCS Bowl games. He is learning. Let's see what happens when he has a bench full of his excellent recruits and 22 on the field. Grow up and quit complaining about snot production and Bragg not getting in the game. The fans loved seeing Zibby at QB. |
