Dr. No: Fools. I offered my services, they refused. So did the East. Now they can both pay for their mistake.

Bond: World domination. The same old dream.

Welcome, Fleming

Great article devoted to a real ND hero. I never understood why the NFL didn't give him a shot.

1990 Orange Bowl over #1 CU as well.

B&G by the numbers and my takes.

1) All QB combined: 12 of 25, 1 TD, 2 INT. 1 INT for TD. The starter will likely be the one that calls the right RUNNING audibles. Literally, the top QB will RUN the offense.

2) 9 total sacks too many. OL ain't protectin'.

3) Place kicking execution a concern.

4) Punting is still good.

5) Jabbie put up "nasty" numbers.

6) WR's ain't gettin' many looks. Possession WR's = Lou-ball.

7) 8 of 22 3rd downs unacceptable. Need big yprush (& no penalties) to keep 3rd downs short.

8) D sounds solid. Net yprush pretty decent. Good sack %. DB's in position. Getting off the field 8/22 3rd; 1 of 3 4th down. 9 of 25 total ain't bad.

"Charlie"-ball 2007 will look a lot like "Holtz"-ball. Hard nosed D and power running.

All we need is a nasty OL and we'll run well.

Go OL, hit the weight room!

Our helmets used to be so much golder.

does anyone know if there is a video of david bruton's hit that he layed on carlson at the bg game?

Enjoyed the Blue/Gold game and I have some pics and video clips via digital camera. Anyone hear anything about Sullivan yet? It looked like he injured himself pretty good. He was holding his knee for quite some time. Hopefully he'll be ready to go near the end of summer.

Chuck,

CW transcript: X-rays neg., high ankle. Out for a few weeks.

I hope it's not Weis being coy. I'm not sure he (probably wisely) has a reputation for coming real clean on injuries with the public.

My all time favorite Notre Dame player. Thanks for writing about him. The man is a winner.

Chuck:

Saw Sullivan after the game. Charlie is playing it straight. Out for a couple weeks.

I think that if you look back at Tony Rice and his career at ND that you will agree that Tony is the epitome of what ND is and what she means to people. He came there knowing he would not play and left a legend. I wish we could keep his heart and transplant it into every ND player. That run against SC in 88 was that of a winner who was not going to be denied. I still rank Tony as one of the best QB's I have seen at ND and I go back to Huarte.

Cuddy was one of a kind. He was an amazing leader, and phenominal athlete, and an even better person. Tony and I were both freshmen in Dillon Hall when we met. One of his best attributes was to make everyone feel like a friend.

We were back in South Bend for our 15th reunion in 2005 and Tony saw us from across a parking lot as we were going into Corby's. He and his wife drove up, and although he hadn't seen any of us in 10 or 15 years, he knew each of us by name and introduced us to his wife.

Tony is a really special person.

The Rice run versus USC in 1988 was on the opening sports cover of West Palm Beach's NBC (WPTV-CH5)affiliate for years - yes years -after that game. Their sports director wasn't a Domer, and the locale is in the heart of Canes-Noles-Gator country. It ws simply that monumental a play.
I got a thrill every time I'd see it.

Nice to know TR's as quality a person as he was a gridder.

Go Irish

My favorite memory was when I bought Sean a "prairie fire" at CJ's on his 21st birthday, then blamed the results on Tony Rice.

Tony Rice was the coolest Notre Dame player ever... and it's not even close for whoever is in second place.
