Good luck to Munir. Nice to see a young man handling this type of situation like, well, a man. |
God Bless LSU. I don't care how badly they whooped us last year. They totally redeemed themselves with me this year. |
Does anyone know the exact number of guys (including the incoming freshmen)that we have on scholarship right now? |
Our only strength of schedule is from the Big 10 and USC. It's not good for the Big 10 to go down the toilet in bowl games. |
Skilled players who are beaten out for playing time by more skilled players have three choices: 1) keep on working for playing time while getting a degree; 2) quit the team while staying at the school to get a degree; and 3) leave the school to attempt to play and get a degree at another school. |
Fighting Binny - If you count players like Thomas Bemenderfer and Eric Maust, as well as the 22 committed recruits, ND has 82 players on scholarship for 2008. |
CW's 1st yr=14 |
Well, maybe Michigan will step up the competition in the Big Ten. I intensely dislike the conference, but their pitiful performance is bad for us too. I am also mystified by the disparity between the big ten and the sec. I don't completely believe it's a speed issue. If it's just an issue of the big ten being slow to accept some advances in college football, then it's correctable. Michigan, frankly, looked awesome in their bowl game and may have given LSU a run for their money had they played each other. |
What is the date of National signing day? Need to mark that on the calendar so I can be by my computer! |
Big props to Munir Prince for handling this the right way. After the season ended, no big drama, and he even tried to tough it out an extra year when he really wasn't happy. I hope he moves on and does some great things at Missouri. |
I believe it's February 7th, Dave ... |
No kidding about Manningham. I will be happy if I don't have to hear Musburger talk about "Super Mario" another year. |
I don't see Michigan being that good next year, either. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, but they're losing a ton of guys on offense (Arrington seems to be coming out as well) and learning a completely new offense. I really think ND should win that game next year. (Will they? Have no clue.) |
National Signing day is Feb 6th. |
Guys, who are Thomas Bemenderfer and Eric Maust? |
Greg, |
For more on Thomas Bemenderfer: |
Ah yes, sorry. I don't know the names as well as you guys! |
Greg, |
Thanks, Pat and Jim. This just in from the "please God... please" department. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/ne...tory?
id=3188045 I'm tired of getting atomized by this man's football team! |
Oh, you guys were already talking about it. My bad. |
Recent news states that Bartley Webb is gone also. Injury problems seem to have ended his football playing days, but he is believed to be staying at ND. |

Those Bemenderfer Chuck Norris-isms are absolutely awful. |
Bemenderfer has been immortalized in song! Just ask Mike Frank. |
It's official. Mallet's gone and probably headed to Tenn. This is the story on ESPN. |
I believe Webb may be on academic scholarship now that his playing days appear to be over. |
Just curious, and maybe somebody here will know the answer. How many guys transfer out of Southern Cal in any typical year. I am aware of Emmanuel Moody transferring to Florida (he's eligible in '08), but it seems that even with all their talent and depth, the kids just wait their turn, or, if the shoe fits, resign themselves to not contributing much on Saturdays. SC gave some garbage minutes to a formerly heralded senior running back (vs Illinois) who never played much, and a big story was made about how he was so loved by his teammates, yada, yada, yada. My question is how do other programs who have had big recruiting successes stack up to ND in their ability to retain and return their players for four years? Thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to shed some light on the topic. |
Anyone think that Carroll could be looking because the whole Reggie Bush scandal is probably going to come down on the Trojans this year; hence, tarnishing everything he has done? In essence, running away before it all hits the fan . . . |
If Pete Carroll were to take the Falcons' job, it would prove that either he, or Arthur Blank, is completely and certifiably insane. The Falcons' HC position might the the worst in the league right now, and Pete should ask for a 5 years/ $50 M guarantee. He'd be crazy to want or accept the Atlanta job, and Blank would have to be be Dan Snyder-crazy to guarantee $11 M a year for a head coach. |
On the other hand, can you imagine what would happen to that program if Carroll left and then soon after they got hit with NCAA sanctions? Talk about a (near?) death spiral. |
can someone explain how nd was "effectively operating at NCAA probation levels scholarship-wise"? sorry, i did not catch that in the past few years. |
From the Tribune a few days ago, a link to a brief Omar Hunter interview from the AA game. While nobody around these parts seemed to be happy about the situation, it is nice to see this passage: [Omar] called Irish assistants Bill Lewis and Corwin Brown "the best recruiters I met this year." |
someone prevosuly mentioned that they despise LSu fans b/c of the sugar bowl ast year. i can't think of any fan base worse than tOSU (right up there with UM and SC). they are without a doubt the most pompous SOBs that i've ever encountered (including SC fans!). every time they had a 60+ yd play they would all rub it in my face. my only redemming quote was "maurice clarett." anyway, munir price handled this situation very well. unlike demetrious jones and carufel he stuck out this year and quietly decided to transfer back home to mizzou. good luck to munir. |
doofus, |
Sunday Morning Quarterback, which can be logged onto from BGS, has a article stating that Don Yeager of SI has a book publishing on Jan. 15, the excoriates U$C and Reggie Bush. Check it out. 2nd or 3rd story on scroll. |
I for one would like to beat Pete Carroll one more time before he goes anywhere. I've been looking forward to that day for 7 long years. |
Voice, |
I'm not so sure about that story saying Mallet would be transferring to Tennessee. From what I've read Mallet's own father said his son was also looking at Texas A&M and Arkansas as well as UT. Now two of Michigan's former assistant coaches were in Knoxville the past couple of days interviewing with Phil Fulmer for some open positions on Fulmer's offensive coaching staff but as of now nothing has come out from UT on this subject. The Vols did hire Flordia's running back coach away from the CB however. |
I believe USC lost 3-5 players this year to transfer. |
Good luck to Munir. I think he is a casualty of ND's rising talent levels. I wouldn't be surprised to see a receiver or two leave by next year. |
Caroll is probably playing USC to pay him more. With all that talent, they should have won 4 championships. I agree with nothing worse then tOSU fans. I hope we never play them for that reason alone. It was great watching them get all abnoxious in the 1st quarter, then quite as a mouse at the end of the game (reminded me of that PSU game a couple years ago with all them goofballs that painted their faces blue and then had to pack up at halftime to head back to PA). |
mikes1160, |

Wardo4, |

Why wouldn't Pete Carroll consider a move to the Atlanta Falcons if he would be given almost complete control of the Falcons + a salary that it would take to lure him from USC? Another factor that might influence his decision was that his previous tour in the NFL wasn't that successful. Maybe he wants to prove he can be on top in the NFL as well. Finally, I am intriqued with the idea he might believe he will be tarnished forever if the Bush deal explodes during this coming season. |
Voice, |

I was in the super market yesterday and this snot nosed bagger looked at my sweatshirt and made some comment about ND's schedule, and something to the effect that we only play service academies and weak sisters. I asked him who he thinks is better. He said Ohio State. I said you mean to tell me that Kent State, Akron, Youngstown, Indiana, Minnehaha, et al are tougher than Navy, who won 9 games and went to a bowl? Same with Air Force? |

gwzimm, |

OC mj thank you very much for the link! |

Voice, |

The Poodle also likes the California lifestyle. Maybe he's holding out for an NFL franchise in LA. If that's the case, we'll be stuck with him forever. |
Thx, bcnd. |

...I have watched Terrell Lambert for the last three years...I'm sure he's a fine lad...but he can't play Division 1 football... |
jim / redondo beach, |
...I have watched Mr. Rogers...and he could outplay Lambert |
...actually, I have watched Mr. Rogers...and he could outplay Mr. Lambert... |
I'm all for calling Urban Lier a chinless bitch, but the initials CB conflict with our own wonderful Corwin Brown. Perhaps we could call him Chinless Lier, or CL. Especially after that little bit about telling a WR that his own coaches were selling him out. |
i just heard rumors about possible sc sanctions...? here's the catch 22: i'd love to see troy get sacked and burn but i'd also love to see ND beat the poodle and a full sc team. regardless the ncaa will never punish a team (save the U and smu) like davie and silly willie punished ND |
As for Mr. Hunter, he just didn't want to play nose guard. It's pretty simple. |
I'm not all that negative, but I too have watched Terrell Lambert get "beat like he stole something" for what seems like my entire adult life. |
Michigan appears to be imploding offensively. |
I have a hard time believing Belichick doesn't have the final say on personnel matters with New England, although he's helped enormously by being able to trust Pioli with a lot of the work. |
cb = Urban "chinless bitch" Meyer |

cb= calloused bastard |

C'mon fellas. The guy has no friggin chin!! |

LMAO, Voice! I'm on board with cb because despite his stature, he's a very small man. |

...if June Jones can leave Hawaii for SMU...Carroll can leave SC for Atlanta... |
Thanks OC mj! |
Chinless Bucketheaded Bitch...now you can enjoy a longer keyboardasm. |

I haven't smoked a cigarette in many years, but I am pretending. |
Would that be regular or menthol? I wish someone would invent a healthy cigarette! |
Benson & Hedges Menthol Light 100's. Ah, memories... |
Anybody else here note that the chinless bucketheaded bitch (boy I like that!)has lost two of his assistant coaches within the past week? John "Doc" Holliday, who was Florida's associate head coach has left the CBB's staff to go back to West Virginia. Earlier in the week the TN Vols hired Stan Drayton the former running backs coach for the Gators to take the same position in Knoxvile. According to the story that was in the Knoxville News Sentinel (I wish I could provide the link), Meyer was not too happy when Phillip Fulmer asked for permission to talk to Drayton about the open position and when Drayton accepted the offer from UT Meyer apparently went off in a heated manner. |
...you guys are a class act...jeeze...arn't you aware that CW is no oil painting... |
Jim/redondo beach: |
Knoxville Irish, The bloom may be off the rose in Gainesville. They are supposed to be major contenders for next season's MNC, but I detect problems in Gatorland. They cannot continue to be carried on the back of Tim Tebow, and with all the skill talent that the chinless bucketheaded bitch (yes, that does feel sinfully good) has brought into the program, only Tebow and Percy Harvin ever touch the damn ball. Disgruntlements (is that a word?) are beginning to develop, too, and unlike what the Poodle has accomplished, namely stacking talent 4 deep and convincing everyone to patiently wait for their time to play, lots of Gator players are starting to have regrets. A lot of folks in Florida believe that they have peaked and the decline has started in earnest. Mark Richt, Nick Saban, Les Miles, Bobby Petrino, Houston Nutt, Steve Superior, Tommy Tuberville, Sly Croom, and Phil Fulmer are all good coaches and recruiters, and the main thing they have in common, other than a hatred for each other, is a hatred for the cbb. The cbb is a marked man. If FSU and Miami get their shit together anytime soon, that will further hasten Urban Liar's inevitable demise. |
...y'all are like little boys that finally found their dicks...give it a rest. Meyer would have been the ND coach if it wasn't for his feeling that Florida could/would win a NC before ND. Jeeze...where did that come from? |
Voice, Virginia Slims Menthol Longs... |
...I'm sure this antipathy against successful coaches and the press will pass as soon as ND/Weis' W-L record get's back to .500 again. I believe in psychology, this disorder is called transference. But, don't worry...y'all will get better with a little time and wins...Until then...if this obnoxious behavior makes you feel better...then feel free to mentally pleasure yourself... |
OC mj thanks for checking out the legitacy of 'disgruntlement', and for enlightening me on your brand. Our brands are both proud members of the Phillip Morris family. To me, non-menthol cigarettes are like decaffeinated coffee. Why bother? Are you 'reformed' like me, or do you still partake of the gilded leaf? |
I haven't enjoyed the calming effect of a good smoke for years (don't know how that works as they increase your heart rate). Even then, I was able to treat them much like dessert - in moderation. I would come in after a good run and light up! Now, the smell of someone else's fag really bugs me, although I keep my mouth shut and move the kiddies away if possible. |
Sounds like me, although I enjoyed many more per day than you did. I swore when I quit that I wouldn't become another "Smoke-Nazi", and, like you, I keep my comments to myself when others light up in my vicinity. Although I do not like the smell of other's cigs, I sure liked my own (OMG, that's what George Carlin used to say about farts!). LOL! |
Ha ha! George Carlin is wickedly funny. If one adds in the second-hand smoke we five kids endured from my dad while crammed into a station wagon (alongside the fishing gear) on the way to family vacations in WI or MN, physiologically speaking, I may have smoked a lot more. Thankfully, we are all still alive and smoke-free. |
