So do you guys think they'd like to add one more DE to this year's recruiting class? Obviously it depends on who they'd be able to land, since Weis has shown a tendency not to offer "lesser" players just to fill quotas. But in an ideal world, do we nab a 3rd DE for 2010?

Also, I like the little position by position mini depth charts, but is there an overall projected depth chart in the works? I know that's typically more of a February &/or signing day deal, but I'm curious about our BGS gurus' takes on where our likely strengths & weaknesses are for beyond '09.

ND is still going after Anthony Barr pretty hard and while he plays RB now, he could very well be the next DE in this class.

As for overall depth charts, we'll probably post one before the first game after the changes from fall camp become public.

i believe they still have a decent shot at chance carter from illinois too. my sense is they would love to get all three. leuders looks like a guy who could beef up and play interior line eventually so i don't know they wouldn't look for three (maybe even four) DE's this year to make up for last year's goose egg.

since the discussion is on recruiting, i love the story below from espn. carrington is an nd target. read last night that he was visiting south bend this summer and thought "good". read the headline this morning and thought "too bad'. read the part where he says he'll still consider sc and nd and thought "whatever".
there is no telling what the 2010 class will look like until NLOI day is finished next february. until then, no use worrying 'bout any of this.

Stanford lands 6th Watch List prospect in Devon Carrington
ESPNU 150 Watch List safety Devon Carrington of Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) has committed to head coach Jim Harbaugh and Stanford.

Carrington holds eight other Class of 2010 offers from major programs, including Notre Dame, Arizona, Arizona State, California, Washington, Washington State, Oregon and Northwestern.

He told ESPN's Greg Biggins, "Stanford was my first offer and they have been the school recruiting me harder than anyone else from the beginning. I really like all their coaches and I like the direction the program is going in. I've always wanted to go to Stanford and lately, I started to think more about life after football and Stanford offers so much in that regard."

Despite the pledge, Carrington added he'd be interested in USC if the Trojans offer and he may take visits to Notre Dame, Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon.

We just got a commitment from former Stanford commit Chris Badger, a 6-1, 192 pound safety from Utah. 3-star guy, but an impressive offer list - Cal, FSU, LSU, Oregon, Stanford, Utah, Mizzou, BYU, and Northwestern, to name a few. And to answer everyone's other question, yes, he is Mormon. Really physical guy but could use some work in coverage.

Maybe it's just me but I am a little underwhelmed by the last 2 recruits, Woods and the fellow from Utah. I hope they will be good though. Neither are that fast and both 3 stars. I hope it works out.

Understand the need to wait on "real" depth charts until after August practices start and we see where the team is going into the first game, but NCAA 2010 comes out 14 July. Can we get something to help us out on our roster building so we can play out the season 15 times over before August and stay sane? Thanks!

The coaches want him inside (which in this alignment is either Mike or Will) but could put him at Sam since there may be less for him to learn there. Manti could wind up at Will, pushing Brian Smith over to Mike or Sam. We really just do not know yet.

LCB - McNeil, Slaughter, Anello?

RCB - Walls, Blanton (regardless of who starts, Walls-McNeil-Blanton will all play heavily), Banks

P.S. Nate,

As far as any other incoming frosh, who knows where they will be put. And with regards to the defense, Manti is the wild card, and we really just will not know how the D is gonna look until Fall practice gets up and running. If you are looking for gaming accuracy, wait awhile. If you can't stand waiting 2-3 weeks to start your season, then f*** it, and play it by ear. Happy Gaming.

Not to mention an offensive line with a lot of experience and a chip on their shoulder the size of Rhode Island. Add in three experienced running backs, and we are looking at a monstrous offensive season.

You're right. He was away for a semester or something, so I must have just forgot about him. I also heard that Motta will be moving to safety, but I know he worked at LB in the Spring at Sam and Will, so I through him in there. Ultimately, though, I do think he will move to safety unless the staff decides to pack 20 lbs. on him. We'll see.
