come on irish. |
Is the board up? |
Here's hoping that we get to read another MSU-ND "epic" by Jay -- with like results as '06. |
lets get a win |
Let's go, let's go, LET'S GO!!!! |
Go Irish! |
dang. syracuse may blow this. |
I am planning on a win. Stocked up on pleanty of Guinness Draught. |
Manny - best way is to open and pour immediately. I wouldn't upend it, but I'd tilt it and pour it out quickly. That way the nitrogen goodness infuses itself into the brown bit of heaven. |
the best way is to get it on tap. |
So,don't drink it from the bottle? |
no armando on kickoff duty? |
Oh - sorry - if you have Guinness Draught bottles, drink from the bottle like you would any other beer. The widget in there tips as you tilt the bottle and lets out the nitrogen as you imbibe. If you have Guinness Draught cans, tilt and pour it out in a glass. |
Is is just me, or is the side line reporter Alex (I don't really care for her last name, hottttt! |
LOL - keep up the Guinness and she'll keep getting hotter. |
the best way is to cut a hole in the bottom, pop the top and let it rush down to your gut like water from a firehose. |
and as you continue to drink she only gets more attractive. as long as she doesn't talk. |
Where the H did that last run come from? Keep it up!! |
No game on TV for me, AFN decided MSU-ND wasn't better than OSU-Northwestern. But, sounds good so far--Go Irish! |
Man - haven't seen this level of execution in quite a while. Nicely done, boys. |
I'm at work today. You guys are my eyes for this game, so don't get too drunk. |
I'm surprised that ad doesn't talk about the patience Reggie showed until he waited for the checks and apartment he received from his prospective agent while he was still in college. That was amazing that he waited so long for those illegal benefits to roll in... |
YES! |
hughes is a beast. |
tt? really? i'll take it this time. |
TRAVIS THOMAS - FTW! |
come on guys |
Bout time he did something. |
Small pleasures. |
finally |
TD!!!! |
Keep it up Irish. |
What's with the endzone celebration? |
Ha ha. |
Chuck is using the Cowboy Bebop theme? Weird. |
I think I'll have another Guinness! |
COme on, D. |
not much D yet. |
No, that's not the way to do it guys. |
don't we usually have big east/acc refs for Big 10 opponents? |
Who are the refs, D? Where are they from? |
NBC said b10 |
Hold on guys, that penalty could have gone either way. Laws wasn't out of line, he was delivering a message. #5 popped Lambert the play before. |
ah, okay, thanks. Got it on radio. |
does lambert know he's supposed to guard someone? every complete pass went to his man didn't it? |
We need an efficient drive coming up |
We can't afford to make this a shooting match - our D has to step up. |
Mike, there are a hundred less conspicuous ways to retaliate than going after the QB. He should have pulled up. |
Allright, offense--show us you can go more than 9 yards this time...let's go guys. |
I've said it for the last 28 games...Lambert and Wooden should not be playing Division 1 football. Fine lads...I'm sure. Division 2 cornerbacks... |
D right on...no Brady, Jeff or Rhema |
This is where we see if Brown can do some nice defensive adjustments... |
Huh. 4:10 reply to Mike was me. Dunno how that happened. |
PK, is "defensive adjustments" the new euphemism for pulling Lambert? |
I will be so thankful once Lambert and Wooden are out of there, even if Lambert came through against MSU last year... |
Ok, another Guinness to get over the MS TD. |
Is it just me or does the way Tate holds the ball make anyone else nervous too? |
LOL, Mike - good point. And if that's all he needs to do to prevent any more MSU scores, I'm all for it. |
How's the blocking looking? |
anyone else frightened at this moment? |
please punt the ball -- price can put it inside the 10. please |
The blocking is much better thus far. |
Great catch! |
please don't give it to Schwapp again on 4th |
Why does Schwapp even play? He's never gotten a 1st down for us, has he? |
Blocking's looking okay - not great, but nothing like the last three weeks. |
ugh. |
yeah D, inside the 10... |
So much for Price inside the 10 yard line. Dang. |
aargh |
Nobody looks pumped/angry offensively or defensively |
This is such a weird game. We've run, caught, and blocked some - we've got an offensive touchdown - and no John Cougar Mellencamp and Vonage. Are we sure this is a Notre Dame home game? |
Can't pick up the 1 yard - ugh. Navy always gets those .. so does UConn. But ... we've scored points! |
Dammit. |
yes! |
Sobering news (sorry Manny) Duke is nailing the Midies :( |
nice play buddy. |
Nice play, Walls. Wish we had the INT there, but still a nice play. |
shank contest |
walls!! get fired up! |
Thank God for Charlie's guys; they're the only reason I or my liver have any hope right now. |
we always shoot ourselves in the foot |
Middies :) |
How do you hold without a run back? |
TRAVIS THOMAS just because you score a TD doesn't mean you get to make stupid mistakes still |
If MSU isn't throwing at Lambert or Wooden...that means they're on the sideline. |
walls can play a little ball. |
TRAVIS THOMAS! Get him off the field! Why does he play? Can anyone make a decent arguement for him? Anyone? Hughes, Allen, Aldridge...All of these people are better players than Thomas and they don't get us stupid penalties. |
It's so good to see the O-line opening up some holes. Just gotta keep that up (among other things)... |
Aldridge runs/looks like a fullback... |
And..... |
Did the official really say "that penalty will be esorsesed from the_______ yard line."? |
That's the OL we've come to know and.... |
Eric Olsen...MOVE YOUR FEET!! |
That was painful. |
the o line is opening holes... |
Ahhhhh ...a punter! |
who was that punting? |
...and we're back. |
So, we're not inept. Just impotent. |
Um... what happened to Geoff Price? He's the best offensive weapon we have |
The profundity of John Madden, folks. |
Well .... PSU/UM on ABC? It was nice watching us play for the better part of a quarter. |
why do we make every running back look like an all american? |
How slow is Brockington? |
D, we're doing our best to ruin everyone's Heisman campaigns by crowding the field. |
how negative can you be jim? keep it up buddy, it really helps morale. |
Caulcrick's a beast. He won't go down. |
Agh. |
kyledr, Joe Brockington is pretty slow, and he absolutely failed to fight off that block or just get around the 300+ pound man lumbering at him. |
When's fencing start? |
kyledr, the team isn't reading this on the sidelines. the suck is all their own. |
Oh!...excuse me...the lads look great! Keep up the good work in game #4 |
Actually, its an elaborate scheme by Corwin Brown to elevate every opposing Off. Coord. to HC candidates - he's attempting to make his job easier for our "2008 national championship campaign" - i'm going to go mow the lawn. |
i realize this, mike, but over the past few weeks i don't know that i've heard any comments from jim that are positive. just adds up after awhile when people are trying to find something hopeful in a rough season. |
Penalties, penalties, penalties |
Jeeze...get a grip...they've LOST 5 in a row! I wonder why? |
I can't wait to see our offensive line against USC's defense...... |
I'd *kill* to see any emotion from our players. I only saw it when Travis scored and when Walls broke up that pass. Otherwise, we're just so damn calm. |
i'm not saying there's nothing bad, i think we all realize there's a shitload of stuff we need to turn around, but it just seems like he's one of those guys that would tear our team to pieces even if we were winning national championships. just a straight up asshole. |
USC? How about Purdue...or Duke... |
sam young beat again! |
Jim, Kyle |
Dantonio is all about intensity and taking games personally - I wish CW would fire up his team that way. |
Seriously, we're all ND fans here. Let's turn the hostility outwards, not kill each other. |
LSU 7 |
Kydler...the Mary Poppins blog is down the street... |
Carolina, not Caroline |
It wasn't long ago we were getting on Tom Hammond here. Bet he's really thrilled leaving The City each week for this .. |
LOL - I was thinking "LSU's playing Sweet Caroline? Who cares about their band?" |
The Jimmy Clausen era starts now. |
ND has not favored well in 3rd in long this season? How about first and ten, second and 9, etc |
omg. a first down |
Grimes - laying out! |
Nice Catch.... |
I called it. |
What the F just happened? |
no.way.i.can't.believe. it. |
Kydler....nice blocking |
JC has *got* to throw the ball away there. Took way too long there... |
nice play |
hey jim, i wasn't blocking. not sure if you realize that. |
one step forward, six steps backward......... |
Jimmy needs to learn to play on the college clock. |
This is ridiculous. Penalties, turnovers, shanked punts, WTF? |
The next O-series will be the most important of the season; we cave, and it's 1-11. |
gwzimm...you are surprised? Why? |
Looks like mistakes are going to put this thing put of reach, yet again |
gwzimm - did you copy and paste that comment from the board last week or the week before? ;) |
at my father-in-law's house. His Belgian friend is coming over with Belgian beer. Time to start drinking... |
I've never seen anything ike this team. Ever. |
does notre dame's bowl contract allow us bowl elligibility if we go 0-12 in the regular season? |
Mmmm. Belgian beer. I might have to stop by the liquor store at halftime and pick some up. |
lol go weis! |
my jr. high team was similar |
gwzimm - and the cause of those mistakes, possibly being the "c" word? |
Right, PK. Seems like it's becoming redundant |
Jerry, you lucky bastard. If I thought I could stomach beer right now (had kind of a hard night) I'd be really jealous of you. |
Cancer??? |
Belgian beer will makes this seem really funny. |
At my neighbor's house. His Afghan friend is coming over with black tar heroin. I know I shouldn't, but... |
looks like ga tech is not so great after all |
Voice - best comment of the day thus far. Awesome. |
Mistakes come from carelessness, I think. Lack of discipline. That's the coach's fault. |
See when the defense is on the field... weis is thinking about the offense - is that what a head coach is supposed to do? |
I just find your remarks totally negative and inappropriate....Signed: Kyledr |
Pass the heroin |
H. Patrick - cancer, coaching - both synonyms on this team. |
jim's a funny guy. |
Duncan cannot block... take him out... he let the defender seperate and get space.... no more pattycake... you have to creat contact and maintain it..... Duncan cannot do that... he sucks. |
Lots of negative remarks here, and why not? I can understand and accept getting beat, but by the OTHER team, not by our own. |
I'm laughing my ass off. My wife thinks were idiots. And we are. We are still watching aren't we??? (Wish they'd hurry up with the f******* beer). |
Nice move by Tate |
Duncan? how about Eric Olsen??? |
Maybe the Big East games won't look so bad after all. ....if we're good enough. |
Maybe Conference USA |
So it was fun having the lead for what, ten minutes???? |
No one's mentioned the big difference aout the big difference in today's game. Where did that shade of green come from? |
olsen doesnt deserve a comment... oh shit... damn i just did |
The best offensive series we've had all season was 6 yards... |
Jerry- |
LOL - loudest cheer of the half, possibly. |
14 yards! Amazing! |
I thought it was 9 yards |
we get a break from Big 10 refs! |
Jim, I would have to disagree. It at least 9, wait, we are both wrong now! |
All right!!!! |
moose |
nice! |
Positive rushing yardage for the year!!!! |
As glad as I am so see the great run - these after play celebrations on the field are pissing me off. We don't do that... |
Anyone else see the Big East bib on the replay officials review? |
there's our spark. |
Happy dance! |
HOLY SHIT DID WE RUN FOR MORE THAN 10 YARDS??? NO FLAGS?? WTF?? DID MSU KNOW THEY WERE PLAYING DEF? anyway, nice to see a long run |
LOL - these gains are like water for someone in the desert. |
We're on our way now. We might get up to 118th in NCAA rushing |
OMG!! Did they erect a monument to Ara or something?? |
We need to stay with the "Clydesdale Backfield" until Jimmy Clausen is a sophomore. |
Schwapp made a block!!! |
YESSSSSS!!! |
whooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaa! |
Two whole touchdowns in a game! |
hughes actually keeps going after he gets hit |
Let's call it a game now! |
think Charlie will take the hint...pound the ball - Did they just say good block by Sam Young - amazing |
Please, let this build some confidence and emotion amongst our guys... |
Wow...They've elevated their game to a JUCO level! |
hughes is a tough kid. He lit up the Chicago Public League. |
its amazing what happens when the OL blocks. |
4 games? That might be the most significant power running in 14 years! |
Man oh Manischewitz!!! |
see jim? even there. you're dick. |
MSU got Hughes(d) and abused. |
Criqui said the left side of the line blew apart the MSU D on the TD. I guess it looked good. |
I think I wet myself |
Yep |
Atta boys. Hang in. |
If anyone knows dick, Kyvlar...it's you. |
@ voice...love it! Hughes(d). That kid is a beast...it was possible after that first run of the game when he dragged 5 MSU guys 4 yards that it was a fluke...but geez! |
gwzimm |
fire weis |
34 |
i just threw up |
that'll dry |
i'm feeling a little better right now, but i think charlie needs to start recruiting the soccer team. we've got to find somebody who can kick it at least to the goal line. |
nice... |
Just wipe off the chunks, the rest will dry |
That previous offensive series .. something happen? this looks a tad like the team I used to know.. |
Keeping the ball on the ground lets our defense catch a breather. Charlie just became "Ground Chuck". |
Nice stop, boys! |
now playing with some friggin life!! |
Come on, offense - let's keep the momentum... |
Ara must be smiling |
When and why did I take my shirt off? |
F! Nice punt. |
Dammit - nice punt. |
Mallett is better - he has run for a td now. |
don't give up a sack jimbo |
unfortunately we aren't going to climb up very far in the rankings. Syracuse just put the hurt on L'ville. 450+ yards passing. |
Rankings shmankings. We just need a friggin win. |
XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX X X XXX XXXX |
OK, PLAY DEFENSE NOW! |
gwzimm, is that a map of Hawaii? |
price funds former self |
speaking of nice punts... |
I'm drunk |
I'm ripped. Nice to meet you, drunk. |
Hate that Xerox commercial |
From you handle, Ky-vler, I take it you're from the Bluegrass State. My wife, who grew up in Tennessee near the Kentucky state line, tells the story of the Kentucky kids who used to throw firecrackers over that line at the Tennessee kids. The Tennessee kids would light them and throw them back... |
Know what a hillbilly virgin is? |
i'm from northern indiana actually. now i live in new york city. touching story though. |
shit |
My wife, who's from southern Michigan... |
Sucks they got the first down, but our D seems to be playing with some fire now. |
we have no speed on the edge |
The tackling! Tackletackletackletackletackletackletackle! |
boy you got that right |
PK - it's because the O is finally giving them some reason to play. |
mallett throws int |
Maybe CW threatened to make them clean the stadium before Trainig Camp resumes tomorrow morning. |
I think Bill hit it right on the head. However, they don't have an excuse now for some of these mistakes. |
Meanwhile from the bayou -- the 'ol Ball Sack' taking it up the shorts courtesy of LSU. |
critical stage here |
Reggie Bush. Such character. |
YES!!! |
YES!!!!!! |
David Bruton is a BEAST! |
YES YES YES YES YES |
Yes! |
Nice grab! |
nett! |
That was insane. |
Nebraska came back to beat Ball State by 1 point. |
Right in front of the student section |
We are playing like a team possessed right now. |
And he has a sweet hairdo. David Bruton is my new favorite human being. |
This is great guys. There is a 20 sec time delay between Criqui's commentary and the comments here. kinda fun |
Way to go D! |
nice blocking guys ;) |
Grimes for MVP - wow. |
how about the catches Grimes is making today... |
Clausen's getting better |
Call me crazy...but I have yet to notice Armando Allen's speed, quickness or moves. |
Nice to see that ... like ND used to be! |
Are you kidding me! Way to go Jimmy. |
Grimes with a nice grab, Clausen with a nice pass, line is still not blocking well enough, but it's getting better. |
Mallett is one hot freshman qb---actually, he's cool. |
ok, they've adjusted their D, come on latina, time to respond |
well maybe Jimmy is learning to get rid of the ball |
Man, our line has got to adjust. They're killing our momentum. |
Delay of game...just setting it up for the long punt |
Stupid penalty. Damn it Charlie, what is the matter? |
its all part of the plan: pourous offensive line teaches qb to get rid of ball quicker. |
Good to see Charlie gettin' pissed. Fire em up, Charlie! |
Our O linemen are just getting ready for Halloween. They are all going as turnstiles. |
Hey, maybe we can get to the locker room with a smaller halftime deficit than last year's Sparty game. |
I do not understand why we seem to have this confusion. Is this the coaching staff, the young players, what? |
I really hate the Fartans |
Let's just get a punt off ... no turnover here ... and try to let Sparty start inside his 40. |
Great goal, Joe Subway... |
God, our line sucks. I can't believe the penetration opposing defenses get on us. This is nuts. |
Let's not be negative now... |
Well, now, I'm going to polish off my case of Budweiser. See you guys next week |
Un(-------) - believable! |
The Price is Wrong. |
Let's be negative, now |
wtf |
what has happened to geoff price |
WANTED: large people to stand in front of other large people for brief amounts of time. |
that's our ball you mfers!! |
I dunno - it seems MSU didn't kick that. I think the call was correct on the field. |
Mike, keep up the beer consumption and you just may be a candidate! |
Crooked refs. |
Hey now! Notre Dame players DON'T block! |
LL, I'm not drunk. Just morose. |
what a stupid fing use of a challenge |
who cares... lets play defense |
I've learned the hard way to set more realistic ones over these last few weeks, Jim. |
This may be the most important D-seriesof the season .. NOW, the difference between 3-0 or 5-7. |
again... we have no strong edges on defense |
we got spirit yes we do we go spirit how bout you!!??? |
Kerry Neal!! |
way to go defense! |
damn. hit the weight room |
allright!! playing the frosh! |
Nice wrap-up, Crum. |
a penalty on the other team!!! we are on a roll |
Nice play by the frosh. There should have been an unsportsmanlike conduct on #75 for MSU on that sack. |
Why don't they run wide on every play...that is...when Wooden and Lambert aren't in... |
What? A penalty and it wasn't against us? |
You know Haden has been waiting to use that stupid "Hail Mary" line... |
3-9 |
Kerry Freakin Neal!! |
Penetration? By our defense? The world is topsy-turvy... |
Bring on Duke! Those pussies!!! Navy too!!!! |
Kerry Neal should never come off the field again! Best looking pass rusher I've seen since Bert Berry! |
Well... only down by 3. I wasn't around for the opening kickoff - who receives? |
Way to go, Irish. |
Where is everybody this week? We had like 140 and that was a much worse game. |
I meant, we had around 140 for last week's thread. |
Mike - I think they're out mowing the lawn, cleaning the gutters, buying stuff at Home Depot, etc. Probably assumed we'd be down 54-0 at this point (and I wouldn't blame 'em.) |
Off to make some food and put together rations for the 2nd half... |
A single-digit halftime deficit. |
PK - good comment (how strange, huh?). |
It's Yom Kippur---they're at temple. |
Jesus, Lord of the hosannas, please let us beat the point spread... |
Who's receiving after halftime? I missed it. |
Mike - redmahoney signed up about 125 (I registered toolate) to help him strip wallpaper, clean roof gutters, et al. |
sparty gets it back after halftime |
Willingham comments anybody? |
Washington plays USC today? That would be a good game....I think. |
Which happens first? N.E. Patriots lose, or Notre Dame wins? |
or pigs fly out of my ass? |
UW plays UCLa today...USC plays WSU |
anyone see the sweet fake fg kick run by LSU..... awesome. |
good stuff so far, they have gotten to keep the big tv and the sound! |
Hopefully UCLA will be pissed today after losing last week by 150 pts. |
Any Browns fans here? Is Quinn getting much playing time? Anderson is doing well. |
We're seeing a spike of visitors online. Where you guys been? |
psu sux |
i was cleaning while i watched and listened. if 7/8 attention gets them to win, deal. |
have been here always, voice, through thick and thin (mostly thin) for 15 years..... |
a) For LL -- MSU receives. |
Willingham's guys destroyed Syracuse at Syracuse. Syracuse destroyed Louisville at Louisville. TW has won a few games, has a stud qb, and has turned around UW's program. |
Notre Dame has much better commercials than Michigan State. |
If Willingham doesn't win 5 games this year...his lifetime W-L % slips to .497. Wadda coach! |
I was thinking something similar to Bill H. I have no hate for TW. |
im happy i can say that there is improvement on the field.... also Bryan Smith and Kerry Neal are stepping up and becoming playmakers. |
why is there double digits in our rush column. What does that mean??? |
Let's Goooooooooooooo Irish!! |
Yep, Brian. Even though Weis won't admit it, this is a rebuilding year and I am very excited for next season. Next year would be even more perfect if Samardzija suddenly decides to return to football and joins the Packers. |
helluva start!!! |
"Special" teams? Not so much. |
uh, looking at that KO return - maybe I'd better revise my comments above. |
Accurate statistics are neutral, boys...Why would you think I hate TW... |
turnoverturnoverturnoverturnoverturnoverturnovertu
rnover |
Let's force a turnover!! |
I still dont like the fact that Schwapp is seeing significant playing time. At least Schmidt made some plays when he got to see the field |
sumbitch |
ummmm holding? |
D is beginning to look tired - and dispirited. |
Oh Oh...Lambert's in... |
penalty??? other team?? what is that two now? |
make it three! |
three now. |
ALLRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!! They finally saw the holding!!!!! |
Big Ten off crew - wow - they actually called an MSU penalty. |
I miss Johnelle. He was like our 12th Man. |
too much time!!!!!!!!!!!! |
amen voice.... amen |
Crum's so small he looks like a short safety |
i saw big east officiating stuff on the sideline. still not convinced it's big 10. |
wway to go Wooden |
I can't wait for three years from now.... |
Johnelle? Enlighten, please. |
how can he be open? He is covered by Wooden! |
Bad D on that .. real bad! |
why is wooden always in on important plays? |
Hammond and Haden said Big 10 but who know? 3rd and 17 - they get 18...sheesh |
Kyle - they announced they are Big 10 at the beginning of the broadcast |
this guy has all frigging day! |
way to go Lambert |
wow, was that 2 bad plays by lambert and wooden? shocker... |
Fuck. |
UGH. Pat Haden is talking about which receiver was more open. |
lambert and wooden are now at fault for at least 14 points today. maybe more. |
I'm pretty sure to defend a pass you have to be able to see the pass. |
cracking another Octoberfest. |
time to check in on LSU and SC |
boston college won but they didn't cover the spread. the david letterman u cardinals almost had a miracle win over the nebraska cornholers. |
i wish we could get a sample of Gary Gray right now..... get better kid. |
Wooden and Lambert...Way to recruit, Ty!! |
Is Lambert in his 10th season? It seems like I've seen thousands of huge receptions with #20 1-3 yards away. |
Johnelle = John L. Smith. Former Sparty head coach, and a true nitwit. |
3rd and 17, and 3 out of 4 pass rushers were on the ground. |
A neutral comment by Jim! |
Thanks, Voice. I remember Smith well. |
The truth hurts, ll |
follow the fucking blocks!!!!!!!!! |
Well - in the vein of CW's best moment being the '05 almost game vs USC - Wooden remains being the only ND DB in a decade who actually caught someone from behind - Dwayne Jarrett '05 to save the TD temporarily. |
why does walls always seem to be behind his receiver? |
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice slobber knocking block |
Schwapp made a block!!! |
The O needs to step up -- first time this year ... we are all owed big time so,,,, let's go Offense! |
Only after Jarrett caught the 4th down and 85 pass |
Schwapp blocking...Good lord, I've seen everything. |
Isn't the offensive line supposed to get in the way of the other team?? |
it is definitely an aldridge type of week. i'm lovin it. |
lol, Mike. |
nice blocking |
Damnit Schwapp..... you are soooo streaky |
jim - redondo - that was the play that Wooden prevented the TD on - caught Jarrett from behind. |
that was just sad. |
ditto |
Bad ... inexcusable. |
just 1 yard.... |
and your point is? |
LSU 28 |
that could be the game... |
nothing has changed. the spartans were just a little psyched out at the beginning of the game. they couldn't bring themselves to believe that we are as bad as we really are... |
Our line is so awful. Just so bad. There is literally nothing else to say. We have a stable of running backs who could put this team on their shoulders and carry it to some wins this year, but our line is going to foil them. |
Game's over, sports fans. But at least we have a glimmer of hope, however small. You just saw one of the main culprits, though. Again, Navy picks up that first down ...against USC! we don't, at home. ST's look crummy. |
who is #73???? fuckin guy could pick off a 215 lb backer to seal the hole for 1 yard |
It's not over. The Spartan tradition may yet show up. |
Wasn't Sullivan a pre-season all-american candidate? |
Could anyone see what happened to Sully? I did not notice anything |
How far down the rankings will PSU fall if they lose to Mich? |
my point is only that Wooden has demonstrated at least once that he has some DB skills and likely hasn't been well enough coached to develop. No excuse for his numerous failures. |
73 is carufel |
BEMENDERFER!!!!!!!!! |
(To steal another's line:) |
Joe Subway, you said it all, Brother! The Spartans can also boast that "tradition never graduates". They are world class fumblefux. |
wow.... if hoyer was a better passer this game would not be even this close |
I'm afraid congratulating a DB for their "good tackle" following a 4th and 20 pass that they shouldn't have let be completed...just doesn't cut it with me...maybe they should go out for the wrestling team... |
they finally pointed out that the MI St. Right Tackle is holding.... he is holding on every play!!! |
Brian Q - this reminds me of last week. Mallett wasn't playing very well, but all he needed to do was keep handing off to Hart and his other runners. Hoyer seems to be doing the same thing... |
Joe Subway - unfortunately, the Sparty tradition (the team implosion)- occurs after they beat us. |
damn it.... play bemenderfer |
no congrats due him - just saying he caught someone from behind - how many times has an ND DB done that in the last decade? |
If the offense can get a few first downs and at least flip field position on this drive, we might get back into it. |
Aldridge! Talk about another bright spot for us... |
The "leader of the offensive line"...talk about a left-handed compliment... |
well, we can get to them on the outside runnoing the ball |
naked bootleg for clausen to the opposite side please!!! |
LOL, Jim. Definitely a dubious distinction. |
Sullivan is from Greenwich, CT. How many teams can boast having a center from a town where the average home is worth $2 million? |
I agree...but the knock on Jarrett in the pros is that he's too slow... |
Dammit. Come on, Jimmy. Gotta throw it away or something there. |
Blitz pickup - what a nice idea. |
dubious indeed...but when you're looking to hang your hat on something... |
Sullivan might want to go into residential real estate |
TT not only made a tackle, but avoided a penalty. wtf? |
How the hell can you let the returner run through an arm tackle six inches from the sideline? |
Clausen does not like he's learning any quicker than he's getting rid of the ball... |
That last play (kickoff) shows how much ST's can help, or, kill you. Two bad misses on tackles .... a 19 yard return that should've been no more than 2. |
Jaisn, one good play doesn't equal redemption. He owes the team quite a few yards. Hopefully he never gets a chance to try to pay off the debt. |
0 and 4 with no sign of succor anywhere on the horizon... we are sinking into the pit of hell... |
A real estate career would be smart. Maybe he would be better at selling somebody's block than he is at blocking somebody. |
damn...Ara looks good ...shut tfu haden about respect for him... |
I love you, Voice. |
The D is clocking out after their colleagues great efforts on ST and O; good job boys. |
"Although he's given up a few big plays, he's close to the recievers." |
That 1964 Time Magazine article about Ara that BGS linked to earlier this week is a great read - raised my admiration of him and makes me envious of my parents, who got to watch his teams play... |
Ty recruited Sully out of Greenwhich.... what does that tell us about his extra curilcular activities? |
a common theme today - outside gains on a running play. |
They pick up 7 .. on the road ... we get stopped cold on twp shots for 1 yard. |
We can't stop Caulcrick. Couldn't stop him last year, can't stop him this year. |
ara's 82 yrs old and I'd be happy to see in there again coaching |
Oh shit...Bruton can't be hurt. Please, God, Jesus, anyone, Bruton can not be hurt. |
we cant get 1 yard for a 1st down because charlie calls it inside run every time... anyone and any coach can see that. |
Bruton seems okay.... God, let him be okay. |
brutons back in |
Ty just happened to be in town playing golf, getting a dozen custom made suits, and shopping for Bentley's. By signing Sullivan he was able to charge it all to his recruiting budget. The man's crazy. Like a fox. |
"ND scores first offensive TD against MSU" - one of the headlines on SI.com. |
can we stop them on 3rd down? |
Bill H...You haven't been as consistent today with your pro-Willingham verbal blow-jobs. What's up...besides your alcohol level? |
JimK - we're 3-0 if Ara were still coaching. This team'd go 11-1; BCS; Top 5 final ranking ...and Ara'd be pissed! |
didn't need to put it on the recruiting budget--he's the highest paid coach in the us. |
Tom "Going Through The Motions" Zbikowski looks like he took a few bong hits before the game. I don't understand how he busted his ass in the offseason only to come back and look average at best. If there's a career opportunity in "coming in at the end of a tackle to give a half-ass assist", then he has a great future ahead of him. I used to love the guy but our relationship has soured. |
yak - funny how no ap writer mentions that |
yak, is he really? For WU? |
Bill H - agree 100%; Ara could do something with these players...the best ND coach in my 45 years of ND football. |
yak, but why spend your own dough when Kevin White signs off on your expense account. Ty was born at night. But not last night. |
LL - Ty is still ND's highest payrollee |
Sounds odd to hear the fight song play during a timeout we called in order to avoid a penalty for one of our stupid mental errors. |
Racist statements |
jim/ rb - first off, this is a family blog - you are a little too slimy (and stupid) to be here. As for TW, I don't consider him an ND-caliber coach, but he's gone. You don't let it go, offer no solutions, show your racism and lack of class. Please, just get lost. |
Same shit, different week |
Oh O.K., Bill H |
touche, voice. |
I'm impressed Clausen stood tall in the pocket there, but his throw was way off. |
If this was last year's team, we'd have 'em right where we want 'em at this point. Sigh. |
Thanks, Brian. |
so, remember how we were in this position last year and won? Man, I'm missing Brady and his no huddle offense |
Jimmy Clausen - Runway Model |
yak, I feel your pain. |
is it my imagination or is Haden turning into more of an anti-ND idiot week by week? |
let's just call this game before the defense get's back on the field |
Did we set a record for the fastest 1st down to punt series? |
jesus, even price sucks. |
Jim - Not much to be pro-ND about. |
JimK - Haden went to USC |
How can you not be negative? They're the worst team in Division 1 |
11 yards?!?!? |
Price is an absolute fucking disaster, I'm laughing it's so bad |
Jolly old Saint Dick. |
Well ... 17 points down, with the 3rd qtr coming up. |
So, we played real football for 2 quarters today. Do I get to count that as a positive? baby steps? |
Any objective musing on current ND football is going to be negative. Can't really blame Haden for trying to fill time. |
Brian - well I know - went to Bishop Amat out here with JK McKay, son of the coach I have hated most in my life. |
Taking down Caulcrick is like taking down a steer - sheesh. |
The whole team is wearing down. They are just tired on both sides of the ball. |
Haden is a class act...always has been an ND booster since his SC days. |
might add though that Haden and JK McKay considered coming to ND. |
the tight end motions and we dont even shift on defense.... that is bad. |
haden is a dyed in the wool nd hater. i watch games with people who don't root either way and they all pick it up. i can't stand him... |
Clear the bench. We've got a big ol' shit sandwich here and everybody is going to have to take a bite. |
It looks that chart of rushing yards allowed per quarter that BGS posted earlier this week won't be changing much after this game. |
yak - actually, there were more positives today that in the entirety of the season up to now. That's the good news. |
Time for the fans to toss those white towels down to our sideline...the players have given up and might as well make it official at the start of the 4th quarter... |
why are they running inside? just take it outside, alternate them, and you're in the end zone in 8 plays |
The little white towels didn't get the job done today. |
the white towels were bad karma from the start. |
pussies! I'm sorry but that's all the analysis comes down to at this point |
Well, I made it through the 3rd quarter - that's a first for me this season, I think. However, I don't think I'll make it through the 4th. |
Better effort in the 1st half, second half looks like the effort from the last three games. |
F**k the white towels, how about a complete lack of toughness by our players |
Let's blame this season on Haden....There...all better now? |
"..than in the entirety.." |
Yes! don't underestimate that missed kick! |
We will now witness a stunning 4th quarter comeback. Quinn to Stovall for the touchdown . . . |
not blaming anything on Haden - whom I used to like relatively as a commentator - except an increasingly lame sense of humor. |
ha ha |
Nice of Dantonio to call off the dogs. O-4 ... biblical stuff we are seeing. |
I'm thinking Dillingham to Battle |
How does oh and four sound? This is bad. Jonestown bad. What flavor kool aid tastes best with cyanide? |
Whoa - didn't expect this... |
I hope Charlie uses the remainder of this season to make up for the growth of his young players retarded by the wasted spring and summer sessions. |
I hear the Indiana State Troopers are giving drunk driving waivers to all...something about "due cause"... |
woe is you. |
can't believe that Tim McCarthy is still there...must be about 50 years now.. |
wtf. |
indy!! |
wow. so last year: gigantic comeback. this year: yeah, we've lost. let's give up |
It's chicken shit, Bill H, to use someone else's name to send blogs... |
Does Clausen have any other facial expressions? |
dillingham to battle . . . hilarious |
going back to Bill H and my reference earlier to Ara - he wouldn't be putting in the back up QB with ten minutes left down by 17... |
We suck and i can't stand the dorks we have as long standing commentators!!! |
i think they are drinking as much as we are... |
I agree JimK |
Toughest assignment in CFB .. playing D for us this year. CB has got to be having some second thoughts about now. If we had an O, even casual fans would see the great job he's done. Just .. another casualty. |
yak i was just going to say that! |
Well, I've got better things to do this evening than watch our 2nd string play against MSU's 2nd string. I also am sick of hearing commentators try to fill the airwaves until the end of the game. I'm out - will check back in on the fray later... |
I'm seriuosly in danger of falling asleep here on the couch. I don't think that's ever happened before. |
JimK, exactly, wtf Charlie let's try to win this game. I understand pulling guys that aren't performing but Sharpley has not shown us sh*t and he doesn't have any rhytym going with our receivers which at least jc can get going again if he starts feeling it. |
if corwin brown is doubting us after four games, he wasn't going to work out to begin with. |
Don't hate on Hammond and Haden. Only about 500 people on the planet are still tuned in to this crap. |
show us you have a pair zibby |
Yes voice but those 500 are all die hard ND fans... |
Lambert just clipped some MSU player 10 yards from the ball...Helluva play Terrell.. |
JimK, some of the 500 are MSU fans who have televisions. |
I am so sick of charlie putting in this putz with no rhythm to officially demoralize us even more than we are...when you can at least keep our starters in to show some fight and build something |
JimK - you're right. Ara's worst would be a close "W" today. |
NBC needs to hire some hot sideline reporters. |
Where does that leave your buddy, Willingham? |
He can have Rosie, I'll take Charlize. |
i agree what point is there in yanking the starters when they play on jv level anyway? |
Bill H, agree that Ara could win with this team, and Holtz dammit would at least have them READY to pla. |
Did you ever see the picture of Charlize smoking herb thru a pipe made out of an apple? Very impressive. I wish she would show up at my crib with that friggin apple right about now. |
fire weis |
MSU with its television-owning fans demonstrates its usual class by leaving Hoyer in...wonder if they have flag-planting plans post-game... |
holtz would be jamming iy down their throat to prove a point to the end |
recruit a dt who can play and weighs more than 260 |
Last week they practiced on Sunday. Since this is a home game, they should practice tonight. All night. |
So Charlie is learning on the job...how to motivate and teach...should have sat down with Ara and Lou during the spring game. |
this is weis' third year, stop telling me is he is learning how to be a head coach, it's his third year. |
JimK, who cares about msu or anyone's "sportsmanship", how about weis's weakness, that's all that matters |
I had to send my 9-year old son out of the room...he was cool with the blow-job remark...but I just couldn't put up any more with his obscene remarks about the game...OUT! |
I get tired of hearing fire Weis every week. Damn, dont you have anything more to say. We learned even more today that we have atrocious line play and wideouts who cant get separation. Face if folks we are in for a long long long season. |
When you are paid $3 million per year to coach, shouldn't it be a given that you know how to motivate players? |
agreed, doug. it's not like we didn't know this kind of start was a very real possibility this year. |
well, I'm not saying fire Weis, and Ara/Lou talk comes from nothing else positive to say. CW SHOULD know, not because of 3rd year but because of all the $$$that Kevin White and the Admin are paying him...but he clearly doesn't know yet. |
yeah i have more to say, weis is supposed to prepare this team, and for the last six games he has failed. |
Nice to see weis waste an entire quarter of the game. |
for all the talk about weis not firing up or preparing the players, how much of this could actually come down to the players themselves not executing? what's the blame ratio, since that seems to be what everyone's interested in? |
well, I'm no fan of what Weis has done in the last 10 or 12 games, but he's all we've got for the moment. He NEEDS to learn. And it's already a long season... |
Heh. Did Carlson catch the ball and was caught off guard about the possibility OF GAINING YARDAGE!? |
Let me say it again...sit the 5th year seniors, seniors and juniors...and play sophomores and freshmen...Bye |
so does that mean that on top of everything else, ND can now add longest current losing streak in the nation? |
I agree with Jim on the last comment. And damn the Belgian beer is finally here....... |
I still support weis, even now, but I think he f*cked up this game. At least keep jimmy in and show the fight. I agree, pull price after he messes up a key kick. But QB's are different, jimmy had it going, he was choking but he could've got it together again. |
not a bad idea jim rb |
Six straight losses by 20 points or more. Sad times in ND football history. Lots of blame to go around. |
oh and four. Been playing since about 1880 and that hasn't happened before! A sign of the apocalypse? At least we get a chance to be oh and five next week |
How's the heroine?? |
OUCH. |
In Dylan's world, ND is 11-1. Cheer up. |
I hate when they all hug and sing the alma mater after a loss. This is the biggest collection of pussies ever assebled under the Dome. |
I love witnessing a piece of history. 0-4! Woo! |
assembled |
Goooooo Irish...Beeeeeat Navy! |
Navy isnt a sure thing anymore |
Voice of Wilderness, I totally agree, they don't deserve to sing the alma mater. |
I totally agree, Voice. It's embarassing. Just get off the fucking field. |
Worst exhibition of football since Kuharich was coaching. He took the '63 team to a 2-7 record, yet twelve of his team went to the NFL. |
Voie, motivation only lasts a short while. We dont even have a good punt game now. Price is terrible this year. How many times can you let the other team start in your end of the field. Wooden and Lambert are terrible. At least it is nice to see those two freshman backers play with some fire. Charlie's biggest concern now is going to be saving the recruiting class. He said it wasnt going to be fixed in a week, what did you expect, all of a sudden we were going to be world beaters. There has been some improvement. This is going to take a while. Bite the bullet, I dont want to hear anything next year and the year after when this team comes back. I have been a ND fan for 50 years and some of you so called fans are as much an embarrassment as this years team. Lou hasnt been here for 11 years and Ara hasnt been here for 32, this has been a gradual downfall since Lou left, we are now paying the price. Charlie cant block, tackle or defend. Our special teams are bad, amongst everything else. Coaches definitely need to go, more than a few. I think some of you need to get a grip. |
See you next week irish fans as we look to extend the record |
gwzimm - the year is the worst since J kuharich, but the effort last week against UM was the worst I've ever seen. |
Agree with that, the UM game was a travesty |
I hate that they console each other. Back in the day you couldn't even look your teammates in the eye after a loss. Now they hold hands and whisper into each other's ear. GUTLESS HEARTLESS PUNCHLESS PRIDELESS and REMORSELESS. They don't even give a shit. |
I'm sorry but I can't get over it, I was a huge cw supporter but what really pisses me off is weis putting in sharpley at the BEGINNING of the 4th qtr. wtf?!?! |
let's just cut the whole team. self-imposed death penalty. |
aaron heilman just pitched a 1-2-3 9th. remember him? |
It's best to see this season to be a tuneup for a better 2008 season - and a possible championship run in 2009. The way this season is going, the Irish should see their next 4 games as scrimmiages to work on different schemes and find their identity. Their 2008 & 2009 recruiting classes should be the top rated. |
Doug, frustrated references to Ara and Lou are reflective of some of the very concerns you mentioned. The downward trend is the problem as you note...what is worse than 0-4 - MUCH worse - is the lack of improvement and lack of consistent motivation and pride. And that comes back to the coaches. |
Brian - unless the recruits turn tail and run...I sure would. |
Mark May is actually looking like a homer for us -- he says that he sees positives on this team (though, no hope for a win in the first 8 games). |
realist, though I'm quite realistic about this team, if I were a recruit I would DEFINITELY come to ND. |
problem is kids nowadays are not smart and make STUPID decisions...like Darius W. not coming back this year...who gave him the advice to enter the draft! |
I'm just happy Jim in Redondo Beach is gone. What a miserable bastard. |
surprise! |
Any chance for a celebrity coach each week? |
In all fairness, Jimmy Clausen stinks. Even for a freshman. |
yeah but a lot do make smart decisions but I know, you have a point...I have a hot filipino friend who was solicited to be on the "recruiting team" at florida. She chose not to but the point is there's no formal process for that at nd. |
Signs of life, boys... a couple of impressive true freshmen linebackers, some nice, young backs... baby steps... it's a really tough year but let's keep on keepin' on. |
Charlie Weiss is a genius. |
Jim, there was improvement here. Weis said last week that this wasnt a quick fix and it isnt. We were more aggressive, we drove the ball 80 yards for a score. Special teams let us down to start the second half, our wideouts are not getting separation and we still dont have a lot of time to throw the ball. The OLine made some improvement, but there were many disappointments too. Not being able to pick up a yard on third and fourth down is ridiculous. Look at some high notes, Aldridge established himself and Hughes will be a very good to great one before he leaves. Tate needs to run with some authority, I believe he is a little gunshy. We still miss too many blocks and have too many negative plays. We didnt move the ball the whole second half, did you really think that by some miracle we were going to score three touchdowns in the fourth quarter? Fire Weis, Fire Weis, bring back Ara!!!!Bring back Lou!!!! Bring back Joe Montana, but by God dont look for anything that we can build on here. Fire Weis and bring in who? Name a top line established successful coach who would want to have three years to turn this around, throw out some names. We know so damn much about football, put your money where your mouth is, name a coach who would come here now that is having success? Easy to sit here and say fire Weis, I dont see any of us offering solutions or saying that we want the job. |
Johnny Drama you have a point, look at msu qb's, stanton to today, they just sling it, and I mean in tight quarters...but they get it done. Jimmy needs to sling it. It's the TD receptions to interception ratios that matters, not the anemic offense but lack of ints thrown that matters. |
well said, doug. |
Maybe we should think about bringing Ara...or maybe Frank back....wadda think? |
Doug is right on the mark. We've got the right coach and we're bringing in our third straight top ten recruiting class. We have good, young talent but they simply need to mature. We're 0-4 and this year is going to continue to be brutal but it will pay off in '08 and beyond. This roster is full of high school All-Americans and state players of the year but they are mostly freshmen and sophomores. Patience, my friends. |
JimK has it right on - our problems have very little to do with talent, but rather, coaching is the cause. Technique is taught. MY HS team is far more proficient at every level of the game than this team is. That is very true ...and deplorable. |
CW isn't the problem...TW's recruiting was/is...you know that Bill... |
QUIT BLAMING TY! |
Doug, I substantially agree with what you say. The futility of my observation that I believe other coaches earlier could have done better with this material is obvious and intentional on my part. If you look above, I at no point called for firing Weis, nor did I expect a quick fix of any kind. My emphasis, however, was on pride and on fighting all the way, things I have not seen in CW's teams thus far. Note that I also mention that CW is what we have now and that he needs to learn on the job. I also agree that no established coach would come, and I wouldn't want to see that in any event. But after a disastrous year and a half, Pete Carroll (by way of example only) has assembled a juggernaut that just keeps going and going. I pointed out last week that USC rushed for 300 yards against Nebraska with 2 frosh in the OL.Now Carroll had enjoyed no significant success in prior positions but sure as heck learned in this one. I hope Charlie can do the same. |
MSU's coach just said that fumble touchdown pass was a planned play...the whole room cracked up and he kept a straight face. |
we have six scholarship seniors and we're playing against teams that are loaded with fifth years and seniors. nd has exactly one fifth year or senior in the wide receiving corps or on the o-line. we have teens playing against grown men in a lot of instances. wait til next year and especially 09 when we start rollin people. |
11-1? Where's that genius now? NIU? |
Weis is a fat, arrogant Bob Davie. |
I'm not sure there's progress when everyone's favorite (nd appropriate)whipping boy, the OL, isn't even the biggest bust of the game. That dubious distinction goes to special teams. Abysmal. |
Is it against NCAA rules to have one person coach special teams and that alone? |
Is it against NCAA rules to have one person coach special teams and that alone? |
I see. |
some of the more objective talking heads are saying they saw improvement. i will build from there. we may actually cover the spread against the bolierfakers... |
just to get us off 666 |
We have the players. We have more great players coming. |
Things change a lot from year to year. Look at ND from '02 to '03 and the difference from last year to this. The turnover in players was tremendous and we all know recruiting was horrendous the last two years under Willingham so we didn't have the troops to step right in this year with out a significant drop off. We lost fifteen starters from last year. '05 and '06 featured the two most experienced o-lines in the history of the school. |
"Weis is a fat, arrogant Bob Davie." # |
CW was, again, outcoached by a nobody. This is not Ty's fault, this is not Minter's fault, this is on him - perhaps we should have tried training camp in August instead. Not that the players did anything to help - OL looks awful, Zibikowski has all but evaporated and schwapp has to be the biggest waste of muscle on the planet. Defense has gotten worse every game. we will win 2 games this year, maybe.......................... |

I understand pulling guys that aren't performing but Sharpley has not shown us sh*t and he doesn't have any rhytym going with our receivers which at least jc can get going again if he starts feeling it. |
20+ plays today that resulted in 0 or negative yards. 6 straight losses by 20+ points. |
I'm gonna' go watch some SEC footbaw. I expect to see more positive comments out of this crew when I return. I love you for loving me. Goodnight, everybody! |
So much for the argument that "the defense allows so much rushing because they're tired and demoralized." The defense allows so much rushing because they SUCK. Four straight games, four straight 100-year individual rushers, four straight blowouts. It's best to face the fact -- fact, not opinion -- that Charlie and all his minions need to go. The longer the ND administration waits to make that happen, the farther ND's name goes down the tubes. |
Um, I know we're bad, but could we stop with the "6 straight games by at least 20 points" meme? We lost by 17 today. Haden misspoke, and corrected himself later. |
Halftime adjustments are huge - Michigan State made them and we didn't. Say all you want about talent disparity, etc. - there's a lot to be said about coaches that are able to see what the opposing team has done in the first half and then are able to adjust their gameplan accordingly. |
Bob, as much as Charlie's & Co.'s coaching is sucking right now, it's gonna be a loooong time before he's fired by the university. His contract payout is too high - among other things - so I expect Charlie will be on the sidelines through the end of next season and possibly for another year or two thereafter if his teams do relatively well (.500 ball or better, I'm thinking). |
On the ST topic - Have we kicked a touchback EVER in the last 4 years. I honestly can't remember it. |
Whoever said above this is the biggest group of pussies ever assembled is 100% right. Every one of those kids are pussies just think they have the whole nation laughing right in their face during the week and they still come out on Saturday like a bunch of pussies. |
I don't mind the lack of touchbacks; I mind returns out to the 35, 40, 45 yard line -- or worse. |

FD -fantastic point - your dungeons and dragons board is waiting. |

so armon - are you just flaming? if you're not, remember that this blog prefers stats to wanking rhetoric. can you measure up? |

FD - sorry about that, my bad on the numbers. |

Wofford, yes I said Wofford, beat up on Appetizer State today. Appetizer State beats Michigan, Michigan beats us, Wofford beats Appetizer State. Therefore, Wofford would beat Notre Dame. Dear God in heaven. |

Bob, why dont you apply for the job, I bet you are a helluva football coach. The arrogance that we show here is a good reason that this season needs to be, we can all eat some humble pie. Fact, Bob, quit talking and offer some suggestions on who we should hire, you and some of the others who know so much about the game. We have all this great talent, but they are young. We have a punter who is even digressing, but I imagine that is Charlies fault too. We miss blocks in crucial situations, again, Charlie's fault. What did everyone think that there was some magic pill out there that we took and everything we were doing wrong would be corrected in a week. We had a guy rush for 100 yards, that is improvement. We managed to move the ball a bit, but we still have too many blown assignments. We give coaches way too much credit when we win, and way too much blame when we lose. It is a gameplan, a playcall and execution. The coach is responsible for the first two, unfortunately execution is more important than the other two. You can call a bad play, but if everyone does their job it is successful, you can call a play that is a home run, but 1,2 or three guys blow an assignment then the coach looks stupid. Granted, CW made a mistake in training camp and the first three games, but the team played with more fire and more aggression. This isnt a quick fix gentlemen, and I use that loosely with some of you, it is going to be long and it is going to be painful. If you dont want to watch I suggest you find something else to do on Saturday, I for one sit, suffer try to find some positives and hope that we get better every week. There will be paybacks over the next few years. Go Irish! |
FD - wow, perhaps we could have a stats "throw down." Get over yourself - we can't kick the ball into the endzone and it hurts us every single game. Thats a fact. |
Just curious...For how many teams in the nation could Vernaglia, Brockington, and Crum be starters? Yeesh, good to see the young kids get a little PT today. |
On the ledge, go call Zibby or Laws a pussy to their faces, anonymity=big balls. |

DJ, you are a wise fellow. I have moved into Absolut Citron which I keep in the freezer for emergencies like this. Ice cold and lethal. |

we can't kick the ball into the endzone and it hurts us every single game. Thats a fact. |
gimme a break. if you want to talk about about "we can't even do 'x' and it's killing us," at least back it up with something besides whining. not that i expect a full analysis in ten minutes, but anything is better than idle crying. |
The NFL is seriously considering moving the ball up to the 45 for kickoffs because they actually do not want to see returns. Injuries, etc. are prompting the league to take a look at just starting most drives safely at the twenty yard line. |

I wonder if Brian Polian has his job because his Dad is the Pesident of the Indy Colts. |
Interesting thing I heard Tim Brown say recently. People always ask him how scary it was to return punts because the return man is usually absolutely clobbered as soon as he touches the ball. Tim said that punt returns look worse than they really are. He said kickoff returns guarantee much more horrific collisions because both the tackler and the returner are running full speed at each other, whereas a punt returner has barely had the opportunity to gather any real momentum before he is hit. I thought that was one of the most insightful things I have ever heard about something I know very little about. Now, at cocktail parties when all the hubbies are gathered around the TV watching a game, I will have something brilliant to say when everyone exclaims how bad the punt returner must feel after being blown up on a return. |

Most of you fellas like the rock 'n roll music, right? |

This was Ia Drang without the artillery support. Fact is, the football field may not be the best option for ND Nation to achieve victory. It may be time to consider some type of asymmetric warfare. |

Talk to us, indy. |

Don't kill me here, but have we given up as a team - are we just trying to get the freshmen in the game to prep for next year? |

My opinion, which is worth nothing, is that yes, the players have hit rock bottom and some of them have thrown in the little white towel. Playing the frosh helps the '08 squad to a certain degree, unless the kids get majorly traumatized and end up rebuking all violence by joining the Hare Krishnas and thus refuse to play football anymore after this season is mercifully laid to rest. My opinion. |

well, I don't know - maybe we should have the guys carry swords. |

Swords, or daggers? Linemen could maybe carry swords, and the skill guys stillettos. |

Voice, are you planning to watch Purdue versus Minnesota? If the Gophers win, you'll be able to say that the Irish are worse than Florida Atlantic as well as Wofford... |
Quick note: some people asked why Charlie put in Sharpley instead of Clausen in the 4th. During the presser he stated that it was because Sharpley's had more reps in practice with the no-huddle/hurry-up packages than Clausen has. He said it didn't make sense to put Clausen in when he had no experience with them. He also said he had a long conversation with Clausen on the sidelines after he came out about the evolution of a quarterback and how he develops. My guess is that it was some of type of pep talk to help him deal with this type of adversity - 0-4 and horrible play that he's never been part of in his football career. |
How many more of these do we have left this year? Eight? |
Coach Weis said, post-game, that he's going with "training camp" again this week. That seems like a good idea. I really think he took for granted the basic skills that must be reinforced by full-contact drills, and I apologize to those folks who've been saying as much since last season. You were right. |
The milk. Ah, yes. Forced milk drinking. No excuses. Get your dairy on, or your derriere out. Milk. |

I'm curious as to how much of a boost distillers will be receiving this fall due to Notre Dame's horrible football season. Might be an interesting subject for an enterprising econ grad student... |

He talked about the squirrels on campus looking like rats, but I have seen some of those things and some are as big as house cats! Hmmm...get some little jerseys and some little gold helmets for them. We could have an all squirrel special teams! |
Here squirrelly, squirrelly, squirrelly. |
If anyone watches the CW post game presser, let me know if you think he is finally beginning to pin some blame on the players. Says he had three focus points at halftime: 1) pin them deep on the kickoff; 2) defense get off the field on third down; 3) (I forget the third). He asks rhetorically after each, "how'd I do there?" and admits that he was 0-3 with the boys on his three focus points. |
More training camp, eh? |

Glad to see the ND spirit isn't completely crushed. Good luck with the remainder of the season. |
I do, in fact, have a football related question: Where in the hell was/is DJ Hord? |
IndyEsq, I had the same thought when watching the post-game. Weis had made similar comments in the first three games (these were my talking points, and we did just the opposite), but somehow today he sounded down on the players. I think he even said something like, "I'm not on the field. (okay)" Am I alone in thinking there's a gulf between what Weis sees and plans, and what the team can execute? |
JoeSub, |
My inner squirrel, particularly in winter, is quite content because he is always able to keep his nuts from freezing. Ba-dum bum. Thanks a lot. You've been great. I'll be here all week. Please take care of your bartenders and waitresses. |
And yet, Weis' comments are one of the more interesting things going for us this season. |
I still want to see where the feud with Eric Hansen goes... |
I want to share some of the positives because I am really getting tired of all the negativity towards the team (and I am not without blame in the negative comments either) - How well did Crum play for most of the game? Whatever the "tweaks" were for the defense, I think it paid, at least, some dividends. He played really well. I also thought the rushing was, for the most part, a big improvement. Aldridge is showing a lot of promise. The receivers were a non-factor. My heart really goes out to Carlson. He probably thought he would have a huge year being a featured part of the offense, but he is stuck in protection almost all the time. I am still rooting for this team with all my heart. Although, my alcohol consumption has increased dramatically this season over last. Anyone else having that problem? |
Jason D - I bought a 12 pack (Sam Adams Brewmaster's Collection) to work through today, but I had a bunch of it last night and then slept in today. By the time the wife and I finally had some coffee and food, it was game time. Since we stayed in the game until the beginning of the 4th, I kept the beer in the fridge. And that's where it'll stay until a little later tonight, when the fact that we're 0-4 really sinks in and my stomach finally settles from last night's beers. |
Am I right? Those squirrels on campus are some of the biggest I have seen anywhere. |
And Jason D - my alcohol consumption this year might have gone up somewhat this season, but not much. I was drinking a bunch during games last year, but it was in full celebration of our play ("Another catch by Samardzija! Drink up!"). This year it's in order to cope with our play ("Another sack? Pass the beer"). |
Thanks! The Sammy Brew Pack is definitely a change from the Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale and Belgian beers I'd been having the last few weeks. Next week I'm gonna start in on some Oktoberfests, I think... |
in cw's previous pressers, he does backhandedly blame his players. i forget which game, but when one nd player got flagged for a personal foul, cw said that was the moment that the game changed. i mean nd ended up getting crushed, so i dont really see how that changed the entire game. i personally find him saying i take full responsibility more as a pr line than anything else. |
Have you tried any of the pumpkin beers that always come out this time of year. Really tasty. Altough I wouldn't want to have too many because pumpkin coming back up is not good. |

One of the maddening things about Charlie's pressers is how impassive he seems. I don't want Dennis Green-style antics up there, but some type of fire would be cool. Last week he seemed both angry and disappointed, but this week he seemed "okay." Of course, he could be like a friend of mine who would be boiling with fury but kept a cool exterior. I understand that Charlie needs to keep his team - too much frustration or disappointment and he'll lose them. But for passionate fans and alumni, it can be maddening to see him so calm after games. |

Maybe - after he talks with the team and before the presser - Charlie jumps into the same stuff Voice has been working with. Might explain the perceived numbness... |

Yeah...btw, where did voice go? Did he finally succumb to unconciousness? |

But look on the bright side. At least we were watchable this week...for the first half anyways. 2009 boys. That's when all this misery and comes to an end, one way or another. |
Good God. Stanford is beating Oregon. Why do mock me Oh Lord? WHY??? |
The above typos are just inexcusable. I put my fingers in the position to succeed, they just didn't execute. |
In response to an earlier post by IndyEsq. Why should all of the blame go on Charlie? I stated earlier, a coach can gameplan and playcall. Execution is what wins games. He had three points that he wanted to happen in the second half. The kickoff team and the defense didnt execute. He cant take the blame for them not executing. These guys need to execute better. CW said last week that they will be in training camp until they get a niche. We started this week, we need improvement each and every week. Go back to a June 9th post that shows how many starters, statistical leaders and coaches each of our opponents have and we have. 8 starters, one statistical leader we returned. When you gameplan and playcall and then it isnt executed the blame isnt on the coach. I go back to the play in the first half, CB is yelling pass, pass before the snap, Brown is keying the TE, he hesitates, Brown bites and the TE runs right past him. Now is that CB's fault? |
I may stop getting up at 4 AM to watch/listen to the games. This kind of abuse isn't worth it. The past 3 weeks were bad enough, but it's really hard to get up at 4 to listen and not even see the blowout. Glad we finally found some semblance of a running game, but it's only going to get worse the next few weeks before it gets better. Focus on fundamentals, play the freshman and sophomores, and for Heaven's sake get Travis Thomas out of the game. Argh. |
Dang guys, when will Coach eis find his W? Navy? Has anyone here ever seen Navy beat Notre Dame? |
problems executing? maybe they're not being coached the basics. you don't just tell them the plays and hope they run them right. you coach them. |
Notre Shame blows. Worst team in college football....I doubt it. But they are definitely one of the 20 worst in division 1A. |
Stop blaming TY you delusion Irish. It was all Weiss and his brilliance when Quinn was dominating, but now its all Ty's fault. Sorry, not buying it. A true "genius" doesnt get blown out 4 weeks in a row. Notre shame blows. |

Speaking of Squirels. |
In no way am I exonerating Weis from blame. It is the coaches job to get his team prepared and I dont believe that Weis is doing a very good job of that. Preparation begins in the spring. I think this team needs to get physically tougher and mentally tougher. CW is finding out it isnt a business like he thought when he signed his contract. His feet should be held closely to the fire. His assistants should be held even closer. I would start the two freshmen at OLB, they seem to be a vast improvement over Vernaglia, I would start Toryan at ILB instead of Brockington. Wooden wouldnt see the field, he has made no progress in 3 years. Lambert is iffy, I would try McCarthy and Smith in the secondary a bit and see how they play. Zibby is atrocious this year. We need to figure why we can't return a kickoff past the thirty. Believe me, I started closely watching ND football in 1964, this is the worst team I have ever seen, but I will refuse to say things about these kids, question their manhood or degrade them because they are playing badly. The lack of fundamentals I put squarely on the coaches, basic fundamentals, blocking and tackling are still bad though improved over the Michigan game. I agree these teams arent 17-30 points better than we are and that is the sad part. A win over ND is not a good barometer for any team and they shouldnt feel good that they beat us and use that as a measuring stick. The sad thing is that all four of these teams were very beatable and if Cw had recognized the shortcomings in the fall and worked on the fundamentals instead of thinking that this team was going to pick up where last years left off we could be 4-0 or 3-1 at worst. We could have proved the naysayers wrong. Well, I retract that, this team did pick up where last years left off, unfortunately. I think that Latina, Polian and Mendoza have got to go. A stronger off season strength and conditioning program needs to be implemented. I think CW needs to take more advice from Ara and Lou and disconnect himself more from Parcels and Belechick. He loves ND, he needs to get advice from the two who love ND as much and were ultra successful. The one thing I really worried about when Weis was hired was how he would handle wholesale changes in personnel. A lot different from the pros where you had virtually the same personnel for years. I think he has failed in that category. |
JMD- |

J Van's recap of the game on NDN says that Zibby and Crum played well. Now I love his predictions and recaps, but what would lead him to say that? |
Jimmy Clausen, besides a few short ended passes and some stupid freshman mistakes, looked AMAZING. Great arm, great potential. Comparatively, he is much better than Ryan Mallott, who is blessed with having Hart and a massive offensive line. Take away Hart and his line, and Mallott would be jack shit. Jimmy Clausen is the real deal, sad part is, we will have to wait at least another year to see how really good he is. |
You have no Idea what you are saying, I've been in sports for a long time and a lack of talent can and will lose you football games no matter who you are, and charlies first recruiting class was in 06, He came in after most of the recruiting was done and come on would Charlie Weis recruit Evan Sharpley......NO. In my opinnion this is Charlies first year because how many coaches take a job and come right in and take a 6 and 6 team to 10 and 3, and then the next year go 9 and 3 no one in Notre Dame History has done that. Chaz just came in guns a blazing and won because the upper classmen he had were Talented and were not used to their full potential. Be patient and let him build his team. Most fans want a national championship every year ( As do I ) but you have to realize that if you don't have expierenced talent you can't win games. So if you want you can jump off the wagon now go ahead and in 2 years when we start dominating again I will let you climb back on. |
I am still waiting to see Chuckles humble himself and take responsibility for his ridiculous boast last year that he would never lose to Mich St...the key for this program's recovery is facing the truth bravely, confessing it is Féd up, taking responsibility, and quit that ridiculous talk that he busts out with. |

I saw some improvement so I'm not completely depressed. We scored two offensive touchdowns, I saw a few hints of our ability to run block and dare I say for a fleeting moment, I saw a little fire in some of our players eyes. My expectations for the game were met and exceeded. A little bit of hope goes a long way. "Incremental process improvement" is my motto. |
In the last two games Charlie has gone on about the "classy" way the game ended, w/Michigan saying how he could've thrown it into the endzone at the end of the game but he didn't think it would be a "Classy" way to end the game, and yesterday pointing out how "classy" MSU was in not going for a score at the end. WTF?? |
The most important thing I got out of this game is that we are playing for next year. I don't like that we have to do it, and I feel bad for (some of) the 5th-years that we have to do it, but that's the way it is. |

Oops. |
For every good play Crum makes, he also has one where he gets burned to the oustide or gets burned by a tight end for a touchdown (see the 2nd half yesterday). I like the kid's heart but he is too small and slow to be the kind of LB we need in Corwin's defense. |
Hey Doug, Why don't you become ND head coach and see if you can do it better than Charlie? |

I know Coach Weis emphasized that new recruits must sign up without wavering but wouldn't you fellows think that at some point these youngsters might question their decision? |

Willingham has his fingerprints all over this pathetic team. 66% of his recruits (5th year seniors, seniors and juniors) started the Georgia Tech game. No matter how good the coach...if he doesn't have adequate players...he's up shit creek until he does. That's why the coach that can recruit the best will typically have the best W-L record in 2 to 4 years. Look it up. I'm not absolving this year's ND coaching staff (specifically the OL) but, with a 9th -5th -and now 1st (Rivals.com) place finish in the recruiting "wars" over the last three years...a brighter future will surely come. P.S. In Willingham's last two years at ND his recruiting "position" was 29th and 40th. And, just for the record, a dog doesn't change his habits much...TW is 41st this year at the University of Washington. Which program do you think will excel over the next 4 years?? |
BillyOcean, it is tough for any linebacker to cover a tight end deep, especially on a play action type play. That is the one matchup that coaches always look for LB on TE deep, that play wasnt Crum's fault, it was a great play call and got the desired matchup and result. |
Crum's to small to play Division 1-A football. A fine lad, I'm sure...just not big enough. |
not big enough? i think there are just too many excuses. |

Wow. I guess people are upset b/c they actually thought ND had a chance of winning yesterday. I for one, have just accepted the fact that we are terrible, could quite possibly lose to any team on our schedule this year, and therefore will not be surprised when the Midshipmen of Navy stomp this pathetic excuse of a "team." |

GB, not to take anything away from Ara, but the '66 team is considered to be one of the best of all time. They had a great mix of seniors and juniors to go along with the sophomore phenoms. They had a tremendous defense, only giving up 38 points all year and had at least 3 All-Americans on the defense that year. We haven't had three first team All-Americans in 10 years. |

People, wake up. The longer Weis has been here, the worse we've gotten. He is not the answer. Stop deceiving yourselves. Our best hope is for a rich donor to pony up the cash that will be needed to buy out the fat slob's contract. |

If only we had kept Davie or Willingham we'd be tall cotton right now. How dare Weis muddy the water by recruiting 18 high school "Top 100" athletes during the last three years. My only question is why Weis is playing those sophomores and freshmen so much. Doesn't he know that Willingham's 5th year seniors, seniors and juniors were probably one of the co-captains of their high school football teams? Foolish man, Weis! |

Bluegrass State. My wife, who grew up in Tennessee near the Kentucky state line, tells the story of the Kentucky kids who used to throw firecrackers over that line at the Tennessee kids |
