Playing during the Ara Era, he was before my time but I just read up on Pete Demmerle's accomplishments on and off the field.

Wow! He was a rare breed. Scholar, athlete, lawyer.

Playing football in the neighborhood yards growing up in South Bend, my friends and I pretended to be the Notre Dame players, and I was always Pete Demmerle. RIP.

I read the article, I was there when Pete played and I am sorry he suffered. Did anyone else read the comments section at the end of the article. I never realized that there where people that could HATE with such visciousness.

As a young ND fan (early teens), I thought Pete had one of the coolest names for a receiver, and was a damn good one at that - he made a nifty catch for the 24th point (and last) in the '74 USC game. God bless ya Pete.
