Say Hallelujah, say Amen!
Come on Brothers & Sisters one chorus:
Say Hallalelujah, say Amen.
Pat; I always had faith in youse guys, it was those other losers that lost faith. Other then VIW, OCmj, Domer, Knox , and a $hitload of others.

Yeeess! Is that light I see at the end of this post-less tunnel? Maybe I shouldn't get too excited... As much as I appreciate seeing a headline other than "PtI" on the front page, I'm still hesitant to celebrate. Actually, I think this post eerily resembles last season's Stanford game - much-needed relief from a long drought of despair, but still not enough to hang my hat on & make me crawl out of my fraidy-hole just yet (pardon my Okie-centric mixed metaphor). And w/ the lack of video evidence, I'd worry that this post might go to the booth for replay, & that the "ruling on the blog" might be reversed, w/ not enough evidence to support calling it a post.

Just kidding, of course - hope you guys enjoyed a well-earned break, & I can't wait to read what's next.

[Side question: joke about Grimes' superman-style TD catch - too soon? I'm still bitter, & will likely harbor a grudge against the Pac-10 for years, but am trying to force myself to move on. Thoughts?]

Here's to the return of BGS!

baIrish,

I can't say I'm bitter about the Grimes non-catch, but that replay referee should be monitored closely. It was not a close call. It was not a good-faith error.

If a corrupt referee overrules a touchdown, it impacts the point spread. A lot of money can be won or lost on otherwise insignificant games.

The Pac 10 and the NCAA cannot rely on an honor system. It's their responsibility to safeguard the integrity of the game. If that same referee ever makes such a ruling again, he should be fired. They can call it 'incompetence' if they can't prove anything else.

I still don't understand why there are conference affiliated refs. Nope... no potential conflict of interest there.

I could see regional officiating teams, but they should all be affiliated with the NCAA and rotated on a scheduled basis.

But I'm sure the NCAA has too much on their plate with the paramount concern of monitoring of size/content of media guides, etc.

You guys were gone??

Whoooooo hooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New posts on the way!

Just in time too, I was just about to kill myself, again.

Welcome back fellas!

Irish_Angst,

....don't forget the NCAA's war on the politically incorrect nicknames! They need to deal with this once and for all before going on to trivial matters like a football playoff for instance.

I'm So glad to see a new post.
I think The NCAA needs to look @ the Pac-10 to many close calls that have huge outcomes to games. ND Stanford game, boy those ref's wanted us to lose. How about the Orgeon OU game or Maybe even the BUSH PUSH GAME. Bad spot after the fumble and WOW Reggie just shoved him in. I will always wonder if that had be Darius walker shoven in Brady Quinn that the Flags would have went FLYING.
IN WEIS WE TRUST!!!!

Whoohoooo!

Knoxville Irish:

Too true. We can't have the NCAA wasting time on investigating suspicious activities at places like U$C or ensuring that student-athletes are actually getting an education when there are so many more important things to focus on...

Like increasing the number of schools that have monikers named after birds, dogs... or trees (I couldn't pass on the Stanford dig).

A perfectly viable playoff option was recently voted down, close to unanimously too I think. The only way we'll ever see a playoff is if fans start to boycott the BCS bowl games. Since that will NEVER happen, we shall not likely see a playoff in the near future.

P.S. Welcome back, BGS! Looking forward to an interesting mix of posts this summer. :)

Off topic, but here is an inspirational piece that appeared today in the LA Times about a Notre Dame swimmer paralyzed in a team bus crash.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/ la...,6002727.column

I was a sophomore that year and vividly remember my 7:30 am history class in which the announcement was made about the crash. I almost didn't go to class due to the early time and the crappy weather. It was a big dose of perspective. Had a roommate who ended up being the senior student manager for the swim team, and got to meet her once (at Pig Tostal I think), really nice person. You'd never know the story from just looking or talking to her.

I have friend who is a Division 1-A ref in the ACC. He will tell you that refs are biased in favor of their conference teams, if not overtly, at least subconsciously, due to the relationships they have with people in the conference.

Second post--read some of the info about the 1964 ND-USC game. Ara still holds a grudge and he should. A 15-yard holding call at the one-yard line and other crap--the refs really did steal that game. The 1978 ND-USC game is another great example!

Lush

I was more heartbroken over that game than any other game the Irish played including the BC game because of the NC on the line and the holding call.
